“Welcome to Konoha.”
The Village Hidden in the Leaf, otherwise known as Konohagakure, is located in the Land of Fire. The village itself is hidden in the forest at the base of Hokage Rock, a large mountain formation that forms a natural barrier protecting the village. This is one of Konoha's most notable landmarks, as cut into the surface of the rock are the faces of the former and current Hokage as a monument to their rule. This can be seen from everywhere in the village as well as from certain viewpoints outside of the village walls.

Current Setting: Due to a major chakra burst, a lot has changed around the hidden Leaf. Animals that were thought to be long gone are now roaming around again. Small, medium, and dangerous sizes. You can no longer only encounter them inside the forest, which used to keep all of these.
There are even mutant variants and rarely seen… the few giants that shinobi fear.
With this massive change, Nao wants to eradicate that shinobi are better than mankind, and wants to make them whole again. Getting rid of the stigma of war. That they are no longer the military village.
Nao's hope is that at one point, contracts, spirits and everyone else can co-exist and roam around the place.
Language:
Three major languages are used inside of Leaf Country, those being Fuego, Fiero, and Vulcan. Fuego is the native language of Leaf, spoken by all Shinobi and residents, This is the most common language that you would hear spoken inside of the village walls.
The other two languages can only be learnt by Shinobi; these are both cypher-based languages, and the skills needed to learn these are kept secret from all non-Leaf Shinobi.
The first of these is Fiero, used exclusively by all Leaf Shinobi. Fiero is both a written and spoken language used to keep secrets from foreigners.
The third and final language that is used in Leaf is Vulcan, this language is only used and known to those who are inside of the ANBU Brach, the cypher on what this language is based on is changed weekly meaning that only those current serving ANBU or the current see Hokage can fully utilize the language.
If you wish to see more about how to learn this, please visit the Konoha Library. Click me.
Climate and weather:
You can distinguish the climate with four distinct seasons. Spring is pleasant but short in duration, climbing in the light as it nears the summer. The summer tends to be long, humid and beautiful as everything is starting to bloom.
Autumn is pleasant in temperature, but the wind can sometimes pick up quite fast. The winters tend to be cold with flurries of snow. These blow in from the eastern coast, where the frozen mist country is located.
Spring weather phenomenon: Pollutants.
Dust dances slowly on the fields, the trees, and reflects the bright, almost spooky light from the moon. The sky, usually filled with pollen, is now calm, too calm… Then life bursts forth. A cautious green begins to take everything over, almost like a blanket. The grass grows thick and lush, and old tools that were left outside suddenly are covered in a thick layer of green. For a moment, the once harsh task of finding resources is now to find in plenty. It almost feels like a miracle as to what this green dust was doing. But soon, everyone realized that nature rarely gives without asking in return.
It starts off slowly, a yellow green like dust settles on everything. Then the air grows heavier and takes on a greenish tint. The wind, which used to feel refreshing, now whipped the pollen into a swirling storm. It is everywhere, blinding and suffocating. What had once been a blessing, turned into a curse. The bright sky is now hidden by a green shimmer.
Even people who don’t suffer from hay fever will have harsh effects from this. Those who suffer from it, good luck.
Summer weather phenomenon: Downpour.
Despite these calmer weathers, there are also phenomena in the weather. The summers are plagued by a massive downpour, which raises the rivers and waters quite a bit. Locals refer to this as a forest's lifeblood, a powerful substance that feeds the plants. They also name this a Downpour. A storm that sometimes hits the area. The red sap mixed with rain water turns the forest floors into a lake of crimson. Some superstitions say it is because of all the deaths that happened in the past wars.
It has been said that during the Downpour, the forest mirrors the sky. Reflecting the storm. Animals are used to this and often make their nests higher up than the ground.
Downpour isn’t only viewed as something bad, it is also viewed as a part of life, a cleansing process that helps the greens stay healthy. The red sap, when mixed and spread out, fed the roots and encouraged new plants to grow.
Autumn weather phenomenon: Thunder
Unique to these thunderstorms, it starts with a thick mist that seems to cover everything in sight. It is almost a quiet moment before the chaos erupts. The stillness in the air is misleading… Then it will clear up, the skies get bright, before the clouds are rolling in, the wind picks up and it starts to crackle. First only in the clouds, till the clouds are almost pitch black.
Then the thunder starts, and you have to be careful not to be roasted.
Winter weather phenomenon: Blizzards
A cold you will shiver from, a cold that hangs heavy in the air… A light fog rolls in from a distance, slowly wraps you if you don’t stay warm. The colors will grow dull, and the skywill be a heavy grey color.
The fog will grow denser, turning into a swirling mist that hides everything in plain view. The air that once was heavy with moisture, now makes the cold even sharper. It isn’t even snowing, but you feel it cut into your skin. The wind stings like that of a blizzard, biting at your cheeks and making it hard to breathe. This weather phenomenon can catch you easily off guard with the frail beauty it shows.
Settlements:
Outer village zone:
If one were to enter Leaf from the domain of the Land of Lightning, the first thing that one would be greeted with is the imposing Valley of the End. This landmark is a large ravine with a cascading waterfall, and while this is an impressive sight on its own, the two massive statues depicting the two oldest clans of Leaf, the Uchiha and the Senju, stand watchful over the waterways. Time has worn down the face of the statues, leaving the identities of the two ninjas they were modeled on a mystery.
While the area outside village walls is peaceful and idyllic consisting of mainly farm lands and small trade communities that does not mean that travelers are safe, either from the wildlife of the thick jungles that lay on the Eastern point of the land of Fire or the scorching heat of the desert plans that connect Leaf to the land of Wind there are many perils one could face. One such place lies near the coast of Crater City, also called the City of Thieves among other things by the locals. This is the home to many undesirables that have found their way to the country from the lands that are dotted around the coast, the City itself is the location of a high number of illegal activities from black market trade to Assassin and Thieves Guilds it is a place the even the Shinobi of Leaf would rather not go.
Inner Village Zone:
When approaching the inner areas of Konoha, the first thing that you would see is the village walls, a large wooden walls that runs the circumference the village itself, in the centre of this wall is the Phoenix Gate itself, so named as a sign of Leaf’s rebirth from the ashes left after the Fire Country Civil War. The gates themself are always left open other than during the rare events of war, as a sign of peace and trust to the other Shinobi villages around them. The walls and gatehouse are adorned with Phoenix iconography, once again showing the rebirth of Leaf after its near-total destruction.
Once through the gates, visitors are within the streets of Oak District, which is the main shopping district. One of the things that this area is most famous for is Ichiraku Ramen, the most popular ramen shop in the village. Leaving the Oak district, you are in Maple Town. This is one of the newest developments inside of Leaf Town and acts as the main residential district for both residents and Shinobi alike. This is also the location of the Village Hospital, the Konoha Byoin, and the Clan House Complex, a sprawling area that contains the various mansions of the Clan within Leaf. The buildings in the main part of the area have a perfect view of the Hokage Rock, and the faces of the Hokage look down on those who walk the streets.
Outside of the residential and shopping districts you will find the Konoha academy its large grounds stretch into the foothills to a untamed section of forest dubbed by student and teachers alike as the Forest of Death, this is the location of all ANBU exams and its entrance is strictly forbidden to all student without the written permission of an academy teacher.
Highlighted Zones:
Forest in the outer zones.

Wherever you go in this forest, you will notice a lot surrounding you. A quick flash from a Syntheliid which floats around, almost being shy. It darts between the ferns; its wings sparkle. Up in the branches, a family of Sylphsong is singing away. They always make a beautiful sound as long as nothing too dangerous lurks around.
Further inside the forest, where shadows grow darker and the air thickens with the smell of wet earth and rotting leaves, are creatures living with more turmoil from the chakra explosion. A rustling and bustling swine-looking creature is walking around, its eyes red as it had just awoken from its slumber. A series of clicks and whistles signals a group of monkey-looking creatures. Then another set of creatures springs by with shiny exoskeletons.
The air is thick here and can sometimes turn sweet after a fresh rain, a mix of pine and an overwhelming smell of the gloomflower. A flower guides the way for those who are lost in these dark places.
If you observe the outside forest long enough, you will see many amazing sights. Many lights and also many dark secrets, but one thing is clear. The forest takes care of itself.
Dreamwork plains -> Rotting vale -> The great world tree (and why you cannot RP here anymore)

Shinobi in the past, often dressed in special armor, carefully tried to make their way through this area. Each step you take, you can hear the bones breaking, and the squishing of the flesh will turn your stomach upside down. A reminder of the extreme cycle of life and death.
Often, monsters that wish to die come to this place to lay down their life. Some of the monsters around this place adapted and have learned to live, feeding on those who come around to die. Their skin is covered in decay, their eyes glow fiercely, and they are swift and relentless in their fighting. The monsters here are aggressive; this means that besides the toxic fog around, you are in constant danger from those that surround.

The closer you try to get to the World Tree, you will notice the bone piles will grow, giant bones, some almost bigger than houses, formed in creepy cathedral-like structures. The air is even getting thicker, with the effluvium making it harder to breathe. A seemingly bending reality; it isn’t uncommon for strange weather phenomena or life-like chakra creations to suddenly appear to create chaos. The tree itself is a sentient creature that lies beyond even the strongest shinobi’s ability to control. At the tree's location, the air is at its thickest, making it impossible to breathe.
With the arrangement of the bones, the movements of the effluvium, and all the creatures around. Makes it hard to find all the secrets, hidden under layers of decay and chaos, to find out. Shinobi who these days venture out to this place never make it back alive.
Valley of the End.

During the Downpour, this place seems to suffer too, creating the water's red color. But once after the downpour, this place will be one most to remember by. That is why the tourist spot has been opened up near, and is thriving at its best once a Downpour has happened.
Lore/history:
1100 Years Ago, Konohagakure
A land at the center of the known world, it prospered and thrived. Its military was large, its people were wealthy, and the lives they all led seemed to be happy ones. A great mountain in the backdrop, with faces carved upon it, stood as a testament to their skill, while a colossal Gate bore testimony to their power. This grandiosity had come at a price, though, paid by the working and the ruling class alike. Wars and deception paved their road to success, and unrest brewed from within and without. The Country of Fire grew nervous with the growing size of its Shinobi Village, while those inside saw that the path they now tread led either to dominion or ruin.
But fate was cruel. It soon came time for the Village Hidden amidst Leaves to pay for its many sins.
A red rain poured down upon them. The scholars debated over whether this was a terrible concoction of nature or the wrath of the Goddess herself. It persisted for days, then months, and the people fled into the greater Country to which the village belonged. These tolling months turned to years, and all hope was drenched. Even the leaders fled for higher ground, and those few that remained met the same fate as their drowning village. Nearly a decade passed before the torrent came to a close, and the red soil beneath the crumbled village mourned the loss of its pride. It was the most devastating calamity in recorded history, scarring the heart of the Fire Country and rendering it barren for ages.
925 Years Ago, The Ghost Village
The drowned village was now the subject of stories told to children, stories about the Gods and what comes of too much power. No one walked into the large and crimson graveyard, as the perennial shade teased the imagination until the people were convinced that the grounds were haunted.
Those that did find residence in the ruins of Konohagakure, became isolated and learned to sustain themselves. They were Shinobi that realized that dispersing into the expansive lands of Fire would chip away at their Arts. From father to son, the teachings of Konohagakure were passed down the generations in the quiet hospice of ruins.
850 Years Ago, Shinobi
The Shinobi of the drowned village had spread throughout the Fire Country, and without a central Military base, the Country grew weak in its military. This was not a problem as the Country rapidly invested its time and efforts into technology and industrialization. A new kind of success came to light- the success of the businessman. Machinery became the new measure of the Fire Country's advancement, and the nation prospered. The ways of the Shinobi, passed down in schools and books, became irrelevant. Soon, it was not the upper class and the honorable that practiced Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu. These men partook in what made money, in what was relevant, business and trade. Even law enforcement began to rely on technology rather than the hidden arts.
It came to be apparent that the Shinobi ways were now a form of combat used amongst criminals and scum. Like a plague, it distracted the progression of the Country. Then, finally, in a decree heard around the world, Ninja Arts was banned. The teachers were removed from schools, erased from books, and purged from the land. In only a decade, the Shinobi became a thing of the past, doomed to be passed down in folklore, along with the Village it had once belonged to.
600 Years Ago, The Konoha Corporation
The Shinobi had long since been forgotten, and in its place, there were machinists and traders. The nation became the hub of technology, and factories and power plants were now littered across its land. But not all was well, and a light trickle of conflicts once in a while along the border alerted the Governing Council that they had competition. For years now, the commerce of the Country struggled due to attacks from outside sources, and these sources used techniques they could not explain with their modern science. Those who believed in the existence of Shinobi, or those who knew such people existed beyond the borders of the Nation, understood what it was that they were against.
During these hardships, a grim and crimson ray of hope came to light, and it originated from Konohagakure. The underworld of crime in the Fire Country had come under the grasp, over the years, of one large organization. This was referred to by the people who had not come face to face with it as the Yakuza. This Yakuza was a collection of families that had gone underground after the ban on Ninja Arts. And now, when their Nation needed a better defense than pure technology could provide, the Yakuza rose out of its slumber. Deploying its agents to the various routes where the most attacks and thefts were happening, the Yakuza single-handedly began solving the problem of security. The older generation was wary of this uprising, as they knew that even in providing safety, these agents were 'Shinobi', and thus, they were criminals. But the younger generation, the youth, and the children all loved their newfound guardians.
A few years later, during the national elections, the first known member of this Yakuza found his seat in the Governing Council. In months, he swayed the public opinion of the Ninja Arts, and was able to convince the Council to not only lift its ban on the Ninja Arts, but to support it as it once had, so many years ago. As a result, the government recognized this Yakuza under its official name, the Konoha Corporation. Functioning out of the old Konohagakure, this Corporation quickly became the heart of the Country. As it was overseen by the government, no official 'head' was allowed to be appointed, and instead, the Corporation was run by the Governing Council.
This saw the rise of the Ninja Arts once more, as the books and schools filled up quickly with the teachings that had long been forgotten. Soon, the older generation of citizens that had been wary of this Konoha Corporation grew irrelevant and quiet, while the new blood of the Fire Country began to acclimate to once again having a Shinobi center.
100 years ago, the Republic of Fire
Technology and the Ninja Arts thrived hand in hand. One complimented the other constantly, and power came in abundance. Konohagakure was rebuilt now, and had swiftly become the sight of attention that it had been a thousand years ago. Skyscrapers broke through the sky, the glint of metal and glass made one wonder if it had really been the sight of a disastrous flood.
Leaf History of Kage’s
- First Hokage Kami
- Second Hokage Umashi = Civil War/Leaf Rebuild
- Third Hokage Yomi
- Second Hokage Umashi
- Fourth Hokage Takeshi
- Fifth Hokage Asuka
- Fourth Hokage Takeshi
- Sixth Hokage Nao
First Hokage Yamaguchi Kami The reign of Yamaguchi Kami was a peaceful one which saw a boom in Leaf’s infrastructure, great buildings surfaced, great people were born that helped bring Leaf into a golden age of prosperity. In this age, the mafia organization called the Yakuza ran most of the village. Even though they were considered an evil organization, they cared for their hometown and made it prosper through unorthodox methods.Years and years went by, Leaf becoming a stronger power in Fire Country as time went by. Even Leaf became famous for its welcoming nature to outsiders; people in the outer zones would move to Leaf due to the opportunities it offered. Leaf came to have a reputation so large that the citizens started looking at the Shinobi Force led by the Hokage Kami as the true leader of the Fire Country. The Damiyo did not like this and decided to take his reputation back by any means necessary. | Second Hokage Umashiashikabihikoji The Damiyo recruited an army of Samurai from Earth Country to wipe Leaf from the map and restore his rightful power over Fire Country. Thankfully, the citizens of Fire Country found out about the plan and warned Leaf about it. By this time, Kami had retired, and the process to find the new Hokage was just beginning. Thanks to the present circumstances, an emergency meeting was called between the Sennin. After the discussion, it was decided to grant the Hokage title immediately to none other than Umashiashikabihikoji. With his leadership, a plan was put into place to fend off the attackers. The war started once Shinobi and Samurai clashed outside the gates. The war went on for a while, not no clear side gaining the advantage. Stories and rumors made the citizens cower in fear, casualties piled up as time went on. There was a story of a young Shinobi that responded to a distress call; an Orphanage was on fire, while he was saving the orphans from their presumed doom, he was ambushed and killed by Samurai. This and many more stories were born thanks to this war. The war ended when Shinobi made the final push into Damiyo’s home city. Once there, they dispelled their forces and disposed of the Damiyo for his crimes against Leaf. Since then, no Damiyo has been appointed. |
Third Hokage Yomi Umashiashikabihijoji left the village after the battle, with no reason why or where he had gone. He just disappeared; henceforth, his wife took the role after a vote in a Sennin meeting, and it was up to Yomi to rebuild what was destroyed.Even though the golden age of Leaf had ended, thanks to the countless casualties that had taken place. Even with all the difficulties and all the problems that needed to be solved, Yomi rebuilt Leaf in record time, bringing it back to prosperity. Children were born, they grew up, and entered the academy. New Shinobi spawned and grew, shops were reopened, money went back into circulation, and merchants started coming back to Leaf. Once all the job was done and Umashi had returned, Yomi decided to step down and give the title to its rightful owner. Hence, this is why Umashi became the Hokage once more. Umashi’s rule wasn’t without its problems, but Leaf was at peace and Happy. Umashi continued Yomi’s work, changing and improving on things, taking Leaf back into the age before the Civil War. After being satisfied with his work, Umashi decided to retire and, with his wife, moved to Cloud to live the rest of his days in peace. | Fourth Hokage Uchiha Takeshi Once Umashi had stepped down, Uchiha Takeshi was chosen to be the next Hokage. The fifth Hokage, in theory, is the fourth since Umashi came back after a small hiatus. Under Takeshi’s rule, Leaf did nothing but prosper, a talk between the Village Hidden in the Sand that ended in a deal struck, which made trade a lot easier between the villages as well as a peace agreement. Making the future safer for future Generations. Unfortunately, not all was peace.A few years after Takeshi took the title of Hokage, the village of Frost decided to kidnap one of Leaf’s most trusted and respected Sennin, Isaki Maki. Being the fearsome warrior that he was, no amount of torture made the Sennin open his mouth and reveal the secrets of the village, but it all came at a price. A mission was set in motion and executed, ending in the retrieval of the Sennin, but it all came at a price. Seeing the danger of the situation, Takeshi mobilized the forces for an all-out assault. Unfortunately, Frost struck first, attacking the gates, and the brave Shinobi fended them off. Mission after mission was given out to try and diminish their numbers, gain intelligence, and gather as much strength as possible. Unfortunately, Frost had to wait since it wasn’t them who ended up wounding Leaf. But it’s citizens. Main Branch Leader and Sennin Kenshin was attacked by a missing-nin and a couple of Leaf’s ninjas. Backup came, and a huge battle ensued. Although Leaf Shinobi won, a couple of casualties emerged; Yuu Kenshin was badly wounded, and members of the village left. Some with blessing, others with the unfortunate case of turning missing. Their names are ever-present in Leaf’s Bingo Book. |
Fifth Hokage Uchiha Asuka. Nothing is known of their deeds because once Leaf needed them, they vanished. | Sixth Hokage Sazuki Nao. The current Kage is ruling the Hidden in the Leaf. |
Clans:Konoha, born from the proverbial ashes of the former Daimyo-controlled village, "Leaf City", has many unique and powerful clans. Of the many, here is a list of the more historically powerful and influential among them. Make no mistake, the most powerful aspect of the many legendary clans of Konoha is the fact that if you mess with one, then you mess with them all. Though many other great nations may boast in their prowess, there simply are no people like those who call the Fire Country home.

What is a Medical Nin?
Medical-Nin contributes to the village in a multitude of ways, as well as pursuing their passions within the field. Akin to that of scientists, they are allowed to travel outside of Fire Country to further their learning and ongoing research of items of their choice, which directly contribute to the technology of Konohagakure. On the opposite end of the spectrum is that of combat specialists, frontline fighters who can boost their combat prowess while attending to the wounded in sticky situations! All the while, these individuals are expected to participate in mending the wounded within the village, as well as being a leading example for Medical-Nin in Training.
What are the Medical ranks in the branch?
Medic-in-Training (MiT):
A medical-nin in training, or MiT, has decided to pursue the occupations held within the Konohagakure Medical Corporation, either through deciding via a medical internship or passing an exam held by a Medical Chief or the Medical Sennin. On rare occasions, one will be accepted via recommendation.
MiT holds the duty of continuing to improve the village while dedicating themselves to further studies in improving their own unique skill sets. You will find a lot of Medics within the corporation who study their specific items to add a unique stamp of their success, along with failures, to the Konohagakure research.
Medical Nin:
Medical personnel is the glue that holds the branch together, without this key component there wouldn't be a Medical Branch. Often those of this particular position can be found researching further advancements for the overall benefit of the village or on the front lines ensuring the overall safety of comrades during treacherous missions.
Medical Chief:
Medical Chiefs are often the goals of most Medical-Nin, leading the way for the future and ensuring that the branch is properly taken care of. Chiefs are known to have shown exemplary leadership and skills, and losing them will damage the morale and efficiency of the Medical Corps. Depending on the number of chiefs, one is considered the left and/or right hand to the Sennin. Upon obtaining this rank, one can travel to other villages and act as diplomats for the branch, pending the Sennin's approval.
Sennin:
The Medical Sennin is the commander of the Konohagakure Medical Corporation. Difficult decisions are often made while in this position, ranging from the direction the branch will head to the interaction with other village diplomats.
The Sub-Branches:
Research Division:
Medical researchers pride themselves on exploring the inner regions of Hi no Kuni and often dabble on the outskirts to search into additional items of interest in hopes of discovering answers to the unknown. Periodically quests end up taking medical personnel to other countries. To stamp one's legacy and cement their name onto the village is often a goal of many in the department for their finds.
Medical Combat Division:
Terror on the fields of combat does not sway those within this particular division. Honing their skills, many are capable of not only defensive techniques but offensive to aid in delivering deadly blows to the enemy. Often the members of this division are described as steel trap minds and holding a strong sense of duty to ensure the safe return of those fighting alongside them in battle.

What is the Main Branch?
The main branch is the backbone of every village; Konoha is no different. While the ANBU and Medical Branch are both extremely specialized divisions of shinobi, the Main Branch caters to a wide variety of roles throughout the village hidden in the leaves. There’s a place for everyone in this branch, and most shinobi will find themselves as part of the main branch at least once in their life.
What are the Main Branch ranks in the branch?
Academy Student:
Everyone starts here. The lowest rank in the main branch. These shinobi are typically the youngest within the branch.
Genin:
The main focus of a Genin is undertaking low-ranking missions to learn and grow as shinobi in preparation for their Chuunin exams. This rank is automatically applied to those who pass their Academy Exam.
Chuunin:
Mid rank in the main branch. These are shinobi who have proven themselves via Chuunin exams and have advanced to a slightly more senior position in the branch. As such, these ninjas are no longer considered to be students assigned to a squad and instead can select a sub-branch that they wish to join.
Jounin:
High rank in the main branch. A shinobi of this caliber shares the same responsibilities as their Chuunin subordinates; however, due to their expertise, these ninjas are often tasked with high-class assignments as well as leadership roles within their sub-branches. Jounin-level shinobi are expected to act independently while providing regular reports to the Head Jounin.
Head Jounin:
Leader of all Jounin. The Head Jounin is second in command of the branch thanks to their role as the “right hand” of the Sennin. They will oversee the academy while organizing Jounin exams as well as specialized and dangerous missions.
Sennin:
The Sennin is the leader of the Main Branch and one of the most senior positions in the village. The Sennin will organize the branch as a whole while reporting directly to the Hokage.
The sub-branches:
Hokage Guard:
The Personal Guard for the Hokage. Should the Hokage need an entourage, at least one member of the Hokage Guard would escort them. They are considered the elite fighting force thanks to the broad and intense training that each member undergoes as part of their recruitment requirements.
Note: To become a fully-fledged member of the Hokage guard, you must work your way up to the rank of Jounin.
Konoha Security:
They protect the village from internal and external threats. A shinobi acting as part of the Konoha security forces deal with a wide variety of domestic threats, their investigations and confrontation can reach far beyond the village walls should the task require it. A member of Konoha security is not commonly a teacher, though should they wish to train those in their sub-branch or those looking to join they can do with great efficiency. Their duties involve watching the gates, monitoring the village for lawbreakers, and working with ANBU.
Journeyman:
These are shinobi who wish to help Leaf from wherever they are. Some Journeymen teach at the academy while others are mission experts. Journeyman can find themselves facing a wide variety of tasks throughout their careers, often as mission leaders teaching Genin in the field or as part of more advanced operational units.

What is an ANBU?
ANBU are different from village to village. Some see them as the “best of the best” as far as being a shinobi. Some see them as military police who are above the other branches. Leaf is a bit different. ANBU in Konoha are focused on external threats to the village. This is a branch of spies, diplomats, and assassins. Each member is trained for their specific role within the branch, all focused on keeping Konoha safe from outside threats.
What are the ANBU ranks in the branch?
Anbu-in-Training (AiT):
AiTs are Genin who showed an interest in the ANBU branch and were recruited into it. Their entire job is to learn what the ANBU do, and learn where they would best fit in the branch to excel at their future job.
ANBU:
ANBU are the meat and potatoes of the branch. Each ANBU is placed into a squad, and their entire job is to perform that role to the best of their ability. It is at this rank that they not only get to pick their codename in the branch but also learn the codenames of others. At this rank, you're given your ANBU Robe and Mask. While the choice of robes is Dark Green, Midnight Blue, or Jet black, masks can be custom-crafted to suit your desires.
ANBU Captain:
The Captains are the managers of the branch. This rank is not given out lightly and usually only when needed to fill an empty spot. Captains are second only to the Sennin when it comes to authority over the branch. There is one captain for each squad the branch covers, and they treat the ANBU of that role as a team under their supervision. Captains may trade in their robes for custom colored ones.
Sennin:
The Sennin is the highest authority within the branch itself. While they do not require permission to make any changes to the branch, a wise one works with their captains to keep things running smoothly. ANBU Sennin can only be appointed by the Hokage, or if there is no one to appoint one, then the Captains can vote on one of their own to be elevated.
The Sub-Branches:
Diplomats:
The diplomats are in Zeta Squad. This squad focuses on improving and maintaining good relations with the foreign powers of the world. Members of this squad must be good at talking to people and will be trained in the fine art of politics and discourse. This is the squad that will be most involved with other villages, with members often being sent out to build friendly relations with them and pave the way for the easier work of the other two squads. Any work happening in another shinobi village absolutely must have permission from this squad to proceed.
Inquisitors:
The Inquisition squad, or Omega Squad, is focused entirely on finding information. They are the only squad that does work inside and outside of the village regularly. This squad has a great deal of leeway in finding information that could protect Konoha from threats. Kidnapping, torture, and other crimes are seen as everyday tools to be used by these people. Malleable morals are a must for the people in the Inquisitors' squad. They require permission from the Diplomats to perform any unlawful acts on foreign soil, however.
Assassination Squad:
The Assassination Squad, or Alpha Squad, is perhaps the most straightforward in the branch. Members of this squad have proven their worth in combat and are tasked with removing threats found by the Inquisitors. While they cannot act in another shinobi village without Diplomatic approval, they can act anywhere else on foreign soil if needed.
