Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Two cousins approached the clan houses, the older supporting the younger as they exchanged words. The rain from earlier had stopped; now, a jutsu allowed Teru’s clothing to give off a glowing heat, drying them both. Hikaru’s head was spinning, for more reasons than just her recent inability to see. The past half an hour had brought more revelations than she ever wanted in such little time again, and they had topped it off by essentially running away from home… well, in her case, anyway. She asked her cousin about it, and she was silent for a moment. “I don’t know where I’m going to go. Your Dad said a lot of stuff about what my clan is and does-” she gave Hikaru a look before continuing, “-but I need time to think about it. Right now, you’re the priority.” She could tell her friend had more on her mind than she’d admit.

The Medical Chief knocked lightly on the door of Sazuki Nao’s Clan house, after double and triple-checking that they had gotten the address right with Teru (since neither of them had been there before, much less with one of them blinded indefinitely). She inhaled, then exhaled slowly; they’d have to explain everything, which meant sifting through the last hour’s event to find out what had actually happened for themselves as well. And she’d be asking for a place to stay as well- the urge came suddenly and temptingly, pulling at every muscle in her body.

The door to the main house of the Clan slowly creeked open, coming to a halt when it fully extended outwards. There would be no one standing in the doorway. Toshi dropped from the ceiling of the home, planting his landing and looking at who stood on the other side of the doorway. He was surprised to see a pair, a bit older than him from the looks of it. Somewhere in their teenage years.

"Sorry for the surprising entrance. I was playing there's hot lava on the floor and you'll melt if you fall in it." The name of the game was a mouthful, having to make a name for it on the spot. There was a giant smile on the boy's face as he tried to explain himself. He rubbed the back of his head, knowing it probably didn't sound as fun as he made it seem. He opened his eyes, taking a more serious expression as he got a good look at the two before him.

They didn't seem to be in the best of moods. The rainy day came to a close, but the dreary mood the boy felt, lingered on. "Let's see, you two are probably looking for Nao-Sensei. You're both welcome to come in." He gave a them a friendly tone. He would gesture for them to come in, closing the door after they entered. He remembered the great hospitality he was shown when he was a newcomer to the Sakurako Home.

"There's a fireplace near the sofa in the living room. If you two want to have a seat while I go and get Nao-Sensei, you're more than welcome." He figured the rain may have made them a bit chilly. "Nothing like warming up near a cozy fire right?" The fire was already burning softly. Toshi would lead the way towards the living room. It was his chore to have the room clean today. He did a rather good job as the place looked spotless. The lowered seating area was a place he spent time to observe the happenings that went on in the garden. He often stepped down the two stairs leading to the sitting area and sat on the couch. He'd observe everything through the giant glass wall that led to the garden.

"It shouldn't take me more than a minute to come back." Toshi would leave them in the living room. He could be seen entering the kitchen and disappearing somewhere back that way. He'd come back with Nao, ready to help in any way that he could.

Paperwork... more paperwork... Even the clan house had paperwork and he didn't bother anyone with it, only his Kami which was around at times like these to support Nao. He had a day where his symptoms were light... but enough to not have him fully to be trusted with stone mugs... He had the plastic ones in his office. "Doesn't add up... Sai, please go over these again, I must have made a mistake somewhere..." The Kami would nod and go over it. It was the usual struggle between having enough Yen to keep the things going, and to keep himself sustained with a retirement payment going on at the side. Without taking any money from Konoha to keep his Clan functioning. "Here you made the mistake.." Sai pointed out where his vacation money wasn't added but substracted. "Aaa- there it is. Thank you sai!" Nao sounded a bit cheerful and as Toshi in, Nao was checking his own temperature.

"Hmm? Right... I will go with you. Sai, please keep going on these numbers." He would stand up, leave the papers for what they were and come with Yoshi towards the living room. "Hikaru!" He was surprised to see her, yet could see not everything was right. "Toshi, could you grab a towel or two?" He asked the child as he would get towards them, ignoring his own things and just focus on them. His senses of Medical kicked in and would attempt to take the temperature of both.

The door opened slowly, revealing a boy who descended neatly from the house’s ceiling and greeted them. Teru gave him a smile and led her cousin, who seemed suddenly unresponsive, through the door and next to the fireplace. “Thanks, we appreciate it.” she added as he left to retrieve Nao.

Facing the warmth of the fire, Hikaru murmured, “I’ve never met that boy before, I don’t think. I can’t picture him in my head, anyway… and… I guess I won’t be able to.” She leaned back, deep into the couch.

Teru was quiet for a moment. “He’s a student of the Sennin’s, I guess. I’m not telling you more than that.”

Hikaru gave her a sightless glance. “As terrifying as tonight has been, I realized something,” the older girl continued. “Your dad said that you were the only Amari with one of those spirits. Once I’m head of the clan, we’ll have access to all the information regarding them- we can figure that out together.” She gazed into the crackling fireplace. “As for your blindness, we know that it was caused by the Hashigaki DNA in your body. That’s why we came to the Medical Sennin, right? You'll be able to see him for yourself.”

“Oh… he had just offered me a place to stay a while ago, and I wanted to get away from my father.” She exhaled briefly. “I don’t know if it’s permanent or not. We’ll probably have to speak with him again eventually, to ask him a few questions about what he meant. Beyond that, I just don’t know.”

“And I want nothing else extracted from me until I figure out what’s going on,”
she added firmly, realizing what her cousin had meant by her last question.

She responded, “Right, I get it.” The young Amari frowned, and lowered her voice. “Someone I’m descended from- we’re descended from- had to have given the order to begin sealing these spirits inside of people. Someone had to make the choice to not tell us any of this... I don’t want to be a leader like that.” Her frown faded as footsteps approached from the hall, and she concluded lightly, “Don’t let me boss you around too much, okay?”

Hikaru heard her name spoken by a familiar voice, and looked up instinctively, simply nodding when she realized the action was pointless now. Both allowed their temperatures to be taken; the Medical Chief didn’t feel very physically sick anymore, fortunately. When Nao finished, she greeted him more formally, “Thank you, Sensei.” She didn’t know how to even begin to explain all the events of that evening, so she started with the most pressing: “My cousin Teru and I learned that, because of a combination of factors, I have been a Jinchuuriki for a number of years now. Additionally, I’m at the very least temporarily blind, and I’m requesting a place to stay.” The girl sighed. “I know it’s a lot, and I’ll try to tell you everything we know. First, though, I’d like to hear everything you know about being a Jinchuuriki- I need more information about what’s happening to me right now.”

Somewhat uncomfortable joining a conversation with the Head of the Medical branch unprompted, Teru looked around the room as her cousin spoke. When the boy returned, she jumped on the opportunity, asking him, “Hey, what’s your name? I’m Amari Teru-” Confident in her identity as she had tried to appear for Hikaru, the young woman stopped short, cutting off her usual clan and status introductions. Instead, she wondered aloud, “So what’s it like living here? I’m entrusting my little cousin to you guys, so you’d better be nice. Doesn’t seem like that’ll be too hard for you, though!” She’d gotten a kick out of the boy’s entrance via dropping from above. Besides, the Sennin didn’t exactly seem like the type to harbor a bunch of delinquents- at least ones that didn’t mean well.

"Yes Nao-Sensei." The boy departed and returned within a few moments. Placing the two towels near Nao, Toshi's green eyes studied Nao's procedure. He made sure to stay out of Nao's way while he looked over the one called Hikaru. While Hikaru explained what was going on to Nao, he noticed that she said something about being a Jinchuuriki. 'What is a Jinchuuriki?' Being blind was an event Toshi wasn't fully ready for. 'Being a blind shinobi sounds tough. You have to be a very brave individual to stay true to the shinobi way while enduring something like that.'

Toshi looked over to the one named Teru as she introduced herself. He noticed that she had brown hair, the same color of his own hair. The youth smiled after being asked the question. "Living here is like a reminder of how one should live their life. Taking things easy and taking a refresher. Of course we have chores to take care of." Chore time was a cinch. The boy would start his training regime with his chore if the day. "Other than that the people here are great, and are always up to learn something new." Toshi wasn't as shy at his Clan's home. He hadn't ventured the village yet due to his shy ways. He figured one night he'd take to the dark roads of the village, careful to stay out of people's way. He wasn't trying to attract any attention. He liked staying stealthy, like a shinobi.

"Nao-Sensei is a great one. I understand he bears the title of Sennin, but he also takes time out and cares for everyone. Answers everyone's questions, he's a true caretaker here." As Teru went on his facial expression went blank for a moment. He thought the two were only dropping by for a visit and a bit of rest. But a smile gleamed on the boy's face after hearing the house would have another member. "We will take care of her here, and don't worry, I'll make sure she doesn't melt in any hot lava." The boy referenced the game that he was playing before opening the front door.

"Are you both from here?" Toshi asked Teru, keeping his ears open for Nao, just in case he needed anything.

"JInchuuriki..." He murmured the word... He knew quite a bit about them... After all, he had fought one in the past too. He looked towards Toshi and figured he should at least explain a little towards him too. "A second please..." he would walk out the room, go to his own room where he brought back a red leather worn book. "Where is it... where is it..." He had made sure he held the book firm while he was walking... He didn't want to worry the others regards of his own problems right now. Once near the table, he would place the book down. Forgetting how Hikaru couldn't see right now and scratched his cheek. This... was adapting to something.. Now that he thought about it.. How was his medical chief, supposed to do her work now too. she couldn't read now... So that means not being able to read patient records or the likes...

"Jinchuuriki... Also translates to; Power of Human Sacrifice. The people who are one, are often called vessels... For those things that are placed inside of them. Numerous things can be thought of... For example, one that I heard of... Is the Fourths Son, Izumi. He took a break from being a shinobi after a near-death experience from an ally... and he too turned blind, probably caused by his Hashigaki DNA as well... but his vision still hasn't returned, but he also is a Jinchuuriki of a wind spirit... I think that is the term... I rather call them beasts... Izumi described that thing as a gust of wind swirling with a color... And with eyes..." He had wrapped his hand around his chin as he thought further. "Sorry, I'm getting off subject..." He would sit beside the table on the ground, just in front of the girls.

If Toshi would notice Nao's sickness symptoms, Nao would shake his head and place a finger on his mouth to keep it silent here, noting that he would be fine as he knew his symptoms weren't as severe as other days could be. "Jinchūriki typically has their creatures sealed into them early in their lives - often shortly after birth - so that they can grow up acclimating to their beast. In order for a jinchūriki to be successful in the long term, it is important for the jinchūriki to have special compatibility or simply unique chakra that can improve their chances. If a jinchūriki has been one for a long time, their chakra will naturally adapt to their tailed beast for better compatibility." Nao paused for a second.

"There are several ways in which a tailed beast can be removed from its jinchūriki. If the jinchūriki loses control of the beast or if the seal is simply allowed to weaken enough, the beast will be released. For female jinchūriki, seals are at their weakest during childbirth, due to the nurturing of the child in the womb taking precedence over the reinforcement of the seal. As such, another ninja is required to keep the seal intact during childbirth and restore it to full power afterward." Nao sighed as he flipped the pages. "There isn't much more information about them... I will look in the library later on..." He would say and look to both of them, hear Toshi also as he gave them space to talk a little.

"I-I wouldn't say great one... I do have my flaws please don't forget those..." He said quickly, held his hands up, and held like a somewhat grimace to his face. He noticed how Toshi wasn't introducing himself, so he would smile soft. "This is Toshi- please forgive his manners..." He would keep smiling. "Hikaru, of course you are free to stay... We have rooms upstairs, or you can have your own place, the places outside aren't really made for two persons, but you can have sleepovers. For those, I do ask the basic rentals though... Just the rent- as you are free to eat here in the main house also. If you come live inside the house, I will get you a chore... that you can do... We will have to figure that out..." He would look to Toshi in the hope he had an idea for now.

Hikaru sat upright on the seat, giving Nao the attention of all her remaining senses. She had come across the clinical definition of a Jinchuuriki in passing during trips to the library, and there had been a handful of patients at the Byoin with malevolent spirits reportedly sealed in them. Experiencing it firsthand, however, was a completely different perspective- everything she thought she knew took on a new importance, as selfish as it seemed, now that she was a host herself.

That there existed another blind jinchuuriki was both a shock and a comfort to her. As she began to think more about it, she remembered her father mentioning the Hashigaki clan’s innate ability to control spirits… if there was someone with the same circumstances as her, maybe she could learn from them how she was supposed to live her life this way. “No, that’s an mportant topic! Can you tell me any more about this Izumi? Is there somewhere I could meet with him?”

The young woman nodded as Nao continued. His description was lining up with her father’s- her mother had died when she was young, which would have been when the spirit was resealed within her. The part about her chakra naturally adapting was odd, since the Kaiku had felt distinctly foreign to her when it revealed itself. Hikaru didn’t raise any more questions, however, as she listened intently to the Sennin’s next words. A weakening seal, forceful extraction, and childbirth… none were good options. The first didn’t appear to be the case when she spoke with the Kaiku, the third wouldn’t be happening anytime soon, and the second… one of the few things she had known beforehand about being a jinchuuriki was that separating human from spirit improperly resulted in the host’s death. That was the reason she had fled from her father: after everything in her life he had revealed to be a lie, she didn’t trust him with a life-or-death procedure.

Confronted with that thought, Hikaru reasoned uncomfortably that she’d have to make a choice between a risky extraction and life as a jinchuuriki forever. She went silent as the world slowed around her. Almost unconsciously, she found herself traveling back to the image of the shaded balcony in her mind. The bright blue of the Kaiku was nowhere to be seen; instead, only the robed humanoid figure stood before her (colorless as the world of her spirit was, it didn’t require working eyes to perceive).

Strangely, it felt almost laughable to open her mouth and say something to it. This was likely what Nao had meant about adaptation and familiarity- although she had felt nothing like this with the Kaiku spirit, standing beside this other being seemed like the most natural thing in the world. It was a nearly tactile feeling of implicit comfort, like falling into bed or petting an old cat. She didn’t have to speak. Instead, Hikaru simply wondered the question aloud in her mind- “What are you?”

The spirit heard her, she could tell, though no answer came. Undeterred, the Medical Chief walked forwards and reached out her hand to touch it. As she did so, she asked another question, “Will we be able to live conjoined like this forever?”

The response was immediate- and, she could tell, unconscious. The Sennin’s room spread itself out around her as she stood, back in the real world. It was as if her earlier blindness was only a distant memory: every detail, every sharp trace of light appeared to her in perfect clarity as she gazed around her, registering the sudden shock on her cousin’s face. As she caught an image of her reflection in the glass wall beside them, she saw her eyes.

1BB8718E6B772FC8891D422382996068BAF1586F

They shone a fierce, luminescent blue, pierced in the centers by a ring of amaranth; a harsh departure from her previous brown color. Startled, she shook her head, opening her eyes again only to find them unchanged. With much more mental effort than normal, she dove back into her headspace, only to be greeted by the azure figure of the Kaiku.

“Hello once again, Miyazaki Hikaru. I am the spirit Kaiku- it is my name, not a disambiguation as your father seems to believe.” It paused for a moment. “Thank you for not acting on his wishes. Though it may be foolish of me to tell you this, the power you contain within your body is easily capable of ending my life.”

Hikaru opened her mouth to speak, “Why are you here? I thought you had left my body…”

“No, although I will have to soon. I am here to explain the role of the Seer to you- while it is true that you chose neither your father nor your duty to the clan, your rejection of the former seems to indicate an openness to the latter. Or so the elders believe.”

The young woman frowned, but said nothing. Kaiku continued, “The Seer’s role, for now, is to foster the development of both themselves and their jinchuuriki spirit. Your spirit,” it pointed to the robed figure, “is dormant, unconscious. Capable of a few things, but still in its early stages of evolution. The process by which these spirits grow is unique for each host, but I will tell you what I do know: I have facilitated the sealing of every Amari clan jinchuuriki since the first. Your spirit- Ukabu, as you have named it- is unlike any other I have seen. However, you have adapted to it, and have the capability to control it. Take the advice of those around you, Hikaru.”

“I will speak with you again, on behalf of the clan. For now, though, I cannot stay here.”
With its final words, Kaiku faded again, leaving the young woman with the robed figure that was her jinchuuriki spirit. She sorted through its words for a few moments. Then, more decisively, she reached out a hand in the same motion as before.

The cozy room appeared again, gray and receding as she assumed her eyes were returning to normal. What was ‘normal’ was changing quickly… it meant she was blind now, except she could see by using Ukabu’s ability. Realizing she was still standing, Hikaru sat, feeling like she owed the group an explanation. “I think I have more control over my jinchuuriki spirit,” she continued her train of thought aloud. “That was what those eyes were, I think, and I can sense the world much more accurately while they’re active.”

-

Teru listened carefully to Nao’s explanation as well, despite her attention being outwardly directed towards the boy. She wanted as much information as she could get about jinchuuriki- she couldn’t help but feel partially responsible for her clan’s practices, even if it was just in her unknowingness. She watched intently as Hikaru closed her eyes and was silent for a while, but took the time to greet Toshi with another smile, “Nice to meetcha. We really appreciate it- I won’t be staying, so no worries about that, although the sleepovers sound great! We’re both Leaf Shinobi, yep,” she answered his question. “Really, this place sounds great. Thank you both for taking her in.”

Her eyes widened when Hikaru stood up suddenly, two icy spheres burning in her head. This was the first outburst like this- what was she supposed to do? Teru rose too, ready to try and contain her cousin if she needed it. As she did, however, the girl screwed her eyes shut again, and she stood back to give her space.

The bright blue faded once she opened her eyes again. Teru fixed her cousin with a look- if there was any question about the complexity of the situation, there was the answer. “As long as you’re okay? I’d say don’t scare us like that, but you probably can’t control it.”

Toshi listened to Nao's words as he spoke, noting what he could about the new term and a bit about how those people are effected. The boy understood that he wasn't the only one learning about his new abilities. This Hikaru was a pro. Not only did she overcome losing herself to becoming blind, she accepted it, and could probably use it to get advantage. Such courage was inspiring. The student noticed Nao's sickness was sparking up again. Before he could speak Nao gestured for the boy to hush. He understood and gave a simple nod.

"Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier, I was caught up in the moment." Toshi addressed Teru and Hikaru after Nao addressed his lack of introduction. Hikaru received the basics of staying in the Clan House from Nao.

Teru thanked Nao and Toshi for being so welcoming. But before Toshi could reply, something occured. "Wow her eyes are impressive." Toshi stayed alert as Teru stood up. He could only wonder what was going on with Hikaru as she seemed to settle down. No major damage. Teru addressed the situation, even calming Toshi down a bit. He wouldn't ask Hikaru about what happened today, but with her living in the clan house, he knew he would have time to ask her and get to know her later.

“No, that’s an important topic! Can you tell me any more about this Izumi? Is there somewhere I could meet with him?” Nao was a bit baffled by this; but was happy to give her more information regards of things. "There isn't that much I can tell about him... I know he is the Lord forth his Adopted Son... You can often find him around the Uchiha Clanhouse and the academy grounds, despite him taking a break from Shinobi-life due to past transitions... He takes his training serious for once he can come back." He held his chin as he spoke, wanting to make sure that he told all he knew.

Unknown what had been transpiring with Hikaru... He held his guard up in case he had to protect everyone from her- as he wasn't sure what was going on with Jinchuuriki's exactly. In his mind he already started to race... and as her eyes were going slightly normal- He did relax a little too, despite the fact even he had stood up. "It would be best for multiple people if you didn't scare us with that too much.." He said as he placed a hand on his own chest to push more to that moment.

His eyes went to Toshi- he knew that he would be safe around so he felt comfortable to say the following; "Toshi, sorry to bother you further, could you show Hikaru to the singles? You can grab the two keys- for her too; prevered to give her house 1." He hated to do it like this; but at this moment he didn't have that much choice to do so.

Still uncomfortable from her outburst being the center of attention, Hikaru tried to process her capability to see again. While she couldn’t use Ukabu to restore her vision very often, it seemed, having the ability alone meant that she could remain a ninja, remain the Medical Chief even… for the first time, being a jinchuuriki had broadened her future instead of narrowing it. It was amazing how much she had taken the gift of sight for granted.

After finishing her train of thought, the young woman suddenly felt very, very tired. The events of the day had caught up to her- earlier that morning, she had been in the hospital recovering from her tournament match, and now she was getting ready to figure out the layout of her clan single.

“Ok, thank you,” she responded, as Nao spoke a little more about this Uchiha Izumi. She had never gotten a chance to talk with someone who was blind before, only read about it. She dipped her head to apologize for the outburst- perhaps it would be better to warn people beforehand if she was going to try and communicate with her jinchuuriki spirit anytime soon.

Hikaru smiled in the direction that she guessed Toshi was. “Again, thank you very much for letting me stay here. For now… I think I’m going to rest.”

She paused and put a hand on Teru’s shoulder, and her cousin added, “I’ll keep an eye on her. I hope you don’t mind me leaving in the morning, though-” she said this to both Hikaru and their hosts- “I probably should speak with my clan about this. And tell my mom where I’ve been.”

"Aye, right away." Toshi only took a second to go and grab the keys for Hikaru's new home. He was excited to have a new clan mate. The boy found himself a bit more open to the people of the village. His quiet shy side was still there, but he felt that in a way, he could relate to the others of the village. He wasn't the only one seeking to understand his shinobi way. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to go out and venture the village. Who knows? Maybe he would end up recruiting new people to the clan?

Toshi returned in a moments notice, the keys jangling as he approached the group once more. He came to a sudden halt, holding up the keys with a smile as he shook them a bit. "These are yours after I show you your place. I hope it feels like home, if not, just let me know and I'll do my best to fix the problem. Also, if anyone is giving you a hard time, you can notify me of that as well." It was a perk of being in the clan, and a friend of Toshi's. Defending those close to him was a given. It was yet another reason to continue to train hard. "I'll be sure to straighten them out." The boy said as he thrust his fist into his palm. He bowed before Hikaru and Teru. "Is nice to meet you both, and welcome to the Clan."

With that Toshi would lead the way to Hikaru's new domain. He would gesture for the two to follow. "This way."

Nao would nod and wait for them both to be out of the living room. He placed pressure on the couch to get up and sit down, taking a breather before he would return to the kitchen to prepare some dinner as that needed time to let the herbs settle in. He would leave a note saying he would be in his work office and remained working there on papers, the do not disturb sign wasn't there.
