What every Academy Student should know about our village and world
Where Are We?
Current Situation:
Sunagakure is currently
underground and mobile, traveling through ancient sandworm tunnels using "Project Sandworm." We surface every 3 months for fresh air and sunlight. During these surface windows, citizens may leave permanently if they choose - no one is forced to stay.
Our Protection:
- Massive Takahashi Glass and Feather-Steel dome (can raise/lower the village)
- Artificial chakra carmot sun that mimics daylight
- Ability to surface anywhere along the tunnel network
Why We're Underground:
We recently survived a brutal civil war against the corrupt Steward Chikamatsu Wei, who sold us out to oil barons called the Baron Twins. The village was forced underground to escape, and we're now rebuilding while preparing for the Baron Twins' next attack.
Wind Country Geography
Major Settlements:
- Sunagakure - Our hidden shinobi village (currently mobile/underground)
- Soons Haven - Merchant city on the coast, ruled by 7 Merchant Lords. Currently neutral but wary of us.
- Sora - The capital, home of Daimyō Ishii Shirō. Political center of Wind Country.
The Desert:
Wind Country is mostly harsh desert. Daytime temperatures reach 90-120°F but nights can drop to freezing. The rainy season is only during Spring. Travel is dangerous - sandstorms, wildlife, and extreme temperatures kill the unprepared.
Borders:
- North: Black Salt Fields (rocky wasteland)
- Northwest: Utsusu Range (earthquake-prone mountains)
- Southwest: Hell's Sanctuary (dormant volcanic range, former home of the Flame Court)
- South: Jōgi Mountains (high peaks with year-round snow, former home of the Solar Court)
- West: Mizumi Sea (coastline)
Our Village Structure
Leadership:
Shinobi Branches:
- Main Branch: General military force, police, border defense, education
- ANBU: Masked operatives handling espionage, counter-terrorism, and covert ops
- Medical Branch: Healers, researchers, field medics, and bio-tech engineers

Main Branch (All Shinobi):
- Academy Student → Genin → Chūnin → Jōnin
Side Branch Specializations:
- ANBU Branch: ANBU in Training (AiT) → ANBU → ANBU Captain
- Medical Branch: Mednin in Training (MiT) → Mednin → Medical Chief
Note: All shinobi have a Main Branch rank (Genin/Chūnin/Jōnin) in addition to any side branch rank. For example, you could be a "Genin/ANBU" or "Chūnin/Mednin" - both ranks progress independently.

Ancient History: The First Men
The Ancients:
Long ago, powerful elemental beings called Ancients ruled Wind Country. They were organized into Courts:
- Solar Court (Fuujin) - Ruled sky and sun
- Flame Court (Homura) - Controlled fire and iron, lived in volcanic depths
- Earth Court (Suna) - Governed the desert and its life
The Ancients enslaved humanity for entertainment, labor, and food.
Primus and Liberation:
A human warrior known as
Primus (the One King) united the scattered tribes and led humanity in rebellion. His legendary blade
Shoki could erase Ancients from reality. In the final battle, Primus defeated Fuujin and Homura but died from his wounds. This event is called
Godsfall.
Mother Suna's Blessing:
After the war, the Ancient Suna (Desert Queen) appeared to the First Men. She blessed the
Sunahoshi Clan with power over desert sands and helped humanity build Sunagakure. Then she disappeared into history.
The Cursed:
During the war, Ancients cursed some humans:
- Kirishii - Turned to stone by Homura (strong but some went mad)
- Fang Marked - Cursed by Fuujin to become desert wolves (lost control over time)
Hybrids:
People with both human and Ancient DNA. Most hybrids have only faint Ancient blood from generations ago. True hybrids are rare and often viewed with suspicion.
The Orders of the First Men
Three ancient orders recently re-emerged to help defend Sunagakure:
Rangers:
- Ancient hunters and trackers
- Can enter/exit the village without passports
- Expert at navigating the desert and finding trails
- Masters of stealth
Journeymen:
- Master weapon and armor crafters
- Their wares often bear family sigils
- Can seal souls into weapons (with permission)
- Highly respected in society
Oracles:
- Scholars and historians
- Guard ancient knowledge in the Vault
- Wear masks when acting as Oracles
- Know Runic Terran (ancient language)
- Have deep knowledge of clans and bloodlines
Recent History You Should Know
The Diamond Maelstrom (204-229 PP - approximately 25 years ago):
A terrible storm covered the desert for over two decades, forcing Sunagakure underground. It was caused by the reanimated corpse of Sunahoshi Daisuke, controlled by a necromancer named Nao (possibly working for the Daimyō). The electrical storm created dangerous glass-like shards that could strip flesh from bone in minutes. The maelstrom ended in 229 PP when Daisuke's corpse was finally destroyed, allowing the skies to clear.
The Cabal Attack (229 PP - approximately 31 years ago):
A terrorist group called "The Cabal" infiltrated Sunagakure and held it hostage with bombs planted throughout the village by a traitor named Uri (also known as Akio). The incursion lasted only 3 days but killed thousands. Key locations were destroyed including the Hall of Learning and major residential areas. Key members included:
- Shouki - Bastard son of the Daimyō, immortal Jashinist, general of the Sovereign army (killed but has returned before)
- Naganisa - Currently allied with former Kazekage Sunahoshi Katsuo
- Magnetica - Killed during final battle
- Kaito - Made a deal with Sunagakure, currently dying of cancer
- Fuu/Michi - Oracle and Shouki's mother, escaped and now occasionally helps Suna
- Urufu - Exiled Inuzuka, killed by Ancient Lord Mikaboshi
- Saiga - Man of honor, let free by Sennin Kuro, whereabouts unknown
- Akio - True leader, identity and whereabouts unknown
Return to the Surface (242 PP - approximately 18 years ago):
After the Diamond Maelstrom ended, Sunagakure rebuilt on the surface and erected new walls designed by the Takahashi Clan.
Battle of Godsfall & The Shattering (244 PP - approximately 16 years ago):
Kazekage Sunahoshi Katsuo and his forces fought Daimyō Ishii Shiro and the Sovereign at the historic site of Godsfall. Both leaders went missing. Simultaneously, a massive earthquake called "The Shattering" destroyed all carmot deposits in Wind Country. Creatures called the Unbent (later known as The Swarm) began terrorizing the country, led by something called Dominus.
The Swarm & Dominus (244 PP - present):
Monstrous creatures known as Unbent or The Swarm have been attacking Wind Country for over 15 years. They are led or coordinated by an entity called Dominus. A major coordinated attack on Suna's walls occurred in 245 PP.
Rise of the Oil Barons (246 - present):
With carmot destroyed, oil became the new valuable resource. The Golden Sanctuary Merchants Guild (GSMG) rose to power, promoting oil as freedom from chakra-users. This created tension with chakra-sensitive individuals. Lady Ishii Mako (one of Daimyō Shiro's wives) declared herself Daimyō after her husband went missing, backed by the Merchant Lords who declared him deceased.
Recent Kazekages:
- Sunahoshi Katsuo (10th, 239-245 PP) - Last Sunahoshi, went missing at Godsfall
- Ryuzaki Raizo (11th, 245-259 PP) - First non-Sunahoshi Kazekage, went missing during Sennin Games
- Chikamatsu Shin (12th, 259-260 PP) - Believed killed when Kazekage Tower was attacked, body wass missing
- Toraono Michino (13th, 1 SCE) - Led the rebellion against Steward Chikamatsu Wei, freeing Suna from the Baron Twins' control
- Chikamatsu Shin (12th, 2 SCE-Present) - Discovered to have been manipulated by Steward Chikamatsu Wei, free from control, leading attack against the Baron Twins
The Coup & Civil War (260 PP / 1 SCE - VERY recent, within the past year):
After Shin's assumed death, the village council appointed Chikamatsu Wei as Steward. Wei immediately declared himself Kazekage and revealed his alliance with the Oil Barons (the Baron Twins). He sold out Sunagakure's military and forced our forces to attack Nomadic tribes for oil interests.
The Old Council rebelled and chose Toraono Michino as 13th Kazekage to lead the resistance. We won the civil war but Wei had planted bombs throughout the village. We were forced to evacuate underground using "Project Sandworm" - a massive mobile fortress that travels through ancient sandworm tunnels.
Michino stepped down after the costly victory, and Chikamatsu Shin returned (he had survived) to become 12th Kazekage again.
Current Threat - The Baron Twins (Present):
The oil barons who funded Wei operate from the Golden Sanctuary in the Diamond Ocean. They recently attacked our surface access point to test our defenses. We survived, but they're preparing a larger assault. We are currently underground and mobile, surfacing every 3 months for air and sunlight.

Noble Houses:
- Sunahoshi - Blessed by Mother Suna, control desert sands
- Takahashi - Master engineers, loyal partners of Sunahoshi
- Toraono - Ancient demon-blooded clan, multiple houses, powerful warriors
- Chikamatsu - Puppet masters and founder of the Medical Branch
- Sunaku - Sand manipulators, cousins to Sunahoshi
Lesser Houses Recently Elevated:
- Tsuchigumo - Shadowkeepers, barrier maintenance
- Hokkyoku - Desert navigation and supply lines
- Renmei - Water supply and purification
- Yamashiro - Spiritual guidance and ceremonies
- Kyouketsu - Mortuary services and bone-crafting
- Uzumoreru - Spy network and information gathering
The Daimyō & Political Situation
Daimyō Ishii Shirō:
- Ruler of Wind Country (except sovereign Sunagakure)
- Has consolidated power across Wind Country over 30 years
- Commands the mysterious Sovereign army
Tension with Sunagakure:
Sunagakure claims sovereignty (independence) from the Daimyō. This has created decades of political tension. Some believe the Daimyō caused the Diamond Maelstrom to punish us.
Creatures of the Desert
Sandworms:
Massive creatures that carved the underground tunnels. They consume sand/earth and the mystical energy within it. Most were killed in the ancient Dune Wars.
Barynx the Devourer was the greatest sandworm - killed twice, once in ancient times and again recently when reanimated.
Other Dangers:
Various predatory desert creatures, both mundane and supernatural. The desert is unforgiving to the unprepared.
Language
Common Tongue: What most people speak daily.
Runic Terran: Ancient language of the First Men. Genin and above can learn it from the Oracle's Library or from an Oracle directly. It's considered a strategic resource - a secret language for shinobi communication.

As a Student, you should know:
- We're currently underground and mobile for safety
- We surface every 3 months for air and sunlight
- The Baron Twins are our primary enemy right now
- Chikamatsu Shin is our Kazekage
- Humanity won freedom from the Ancients long ago (Godsfall)
- The Sunahoshi were blessed to protect us but have mostly disappeared
- The desert is dangerous - never travel alone or unprepared
- We are a sovereign state, independent from the Daimyō
- Recent civil war freed us from corrupt leadership
- Our village values strength, loyalty, and survival
