Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Joukuu was annoyed to say the least. Yesterday had gone astonishingly bad for one of his first active days back in Kumogakure. The man had been assigned a simple class that he had made up basically on the spot, only to have the student who was supposed to attend the private lesson no show it. Of course the senior ANBU captain was left rather annoyed to the point that he had used his abilities to track down the child to a gathering in a forest he had long since left.

Joukuu had found the boy being accosted by a group of people he did not recognize. Joukuu had hoped that retrieving the boy would just have been as easy as showing his emblem and just leaving with him, but to his dismay he was stopped and barred from leaving claiming to be the protector of a forest. Inside Joukuu found it funny because when he spent his youth in the village, the forest was open to everyone training and clans and people lived it freely. Now though it seemed like it was owned. How timed changed the village.

Time though was the only thing that the dirty blonde thirty-seven year old ANBU captain was important. Here again waiting in the same auditorium seating class room which he had learned his first lessons on his path to being a trained and paid killer, Joukuu sat now in front of the of the class room behind a large wooden desk. He was leaning back on the two wooden hind legs of the chair he was in swaying a bit with his leather brown boots on the desk. In front of him next to his boots on the desk, was a bouncing and bucking black metal box with a large chain wrapping around it. However, Joukuu seemed to pay no heed to it as he looked down to his wrist and checked the time.

Joukuu was dressed in the same gear he had been when he had met the group earlier. The slim cut leather jacket however was on a coat hanger revealing the bright lightning yellow t-shirt he had on underneath it and what looked to be a black thermal shirt that went all the way down his arms beneath it. His skinny acid wash jeans were over the top of his leather boots going half way down the high cut top. He even still had on the light purple scarf that covered his pale pink lips. Humming some, and tapping on the hilt of the ancient looking sword around his waist, the man waited starting to get annoyed with this boy’s tardiness. Raiden help him if I have to track him down again. Joukuu thought.

The first thing that floated into his mind was ‘This is bad! This is bad!’ as he ran the rest of the streets. He had not thought about getting caught up by that weird group in the forest, though perhaps he was partly at fault for even bothering to venture into it, but he did not think he would find them and be stalled for so long. Not to mention that he had forgotten that he was listed for a rather interesting class. That was to say, he finally remembered all about it after that blonde had tried to take him away in the forest, only to be stopped. Thus, he was rushing all the way back to the academy at this instant.

Footsteps echoed as he ran past the gates, jumping off the ground to cover some distance as he streamlined towards the entrance of the academy. He hurried past the corridors and made a few turns before finally seeing the said room in sight. He then stopped along the doors to regain some composure before he finally stepped in. And much to his surprise, in this large auditorium-like classroom, with rows of tables and chairs ascending towards the back, he found it empty save for the lone person who was seated behind a desk that faced the class.

‘This is bad. The teacher was there. There was no one else. And it was that guy from the forest to boot.’ – he thought as he found himself entering the room with much haste before arriving at the front and bowing towards the latter, “I’m sorry for being late. I couldn’t leave immediately but I tried my best to come on time… which pretty much failed.” He then straightened up and added, “My name is Yoru Nanashi.” And he looked around a bit, “Is there no one else coming?”

The sound of someone young running down the wooden halls of the academy was the first thing to catch the dirty blonde hair man’s ear. Beneath the scarf a small smirk and snicker could be heard very faintly. The long since graduated ANBU Captain was recalling all the times he had to rush to class after sleeping in or goofing off in the courtyard and sparring areas. All the scolding he got by teachers long since forgotten by the village, and the lashing he got by shinobi teachers whom had fallen in battle at this point.

When he finally heard the person stop outside his door, he knew it was the boy from the forest. Coughing some the ANBU just collected himself and looked up at the high ceiling as he waited for Nanashi to come in. His emerald green eyes would look over at Nanashi as he spoke though the man did not turn to face him. “You’re late.” Joukuu finally said in his smooth and soft pitched tenor voice. Standing up, the man would stuff his battle worn hands into his leather jacket’s pocket.

“Unfortunately, the rest of the kids already took this class. You know when you were off playing in the forest? So you get a private one on one private lesson with me today. I guess be thankful?” Joukuu said as he pulled out his hands that were filled with paper. Taking a deep breath the experienced Shinobi turned and tossed the paper at the board, through chakra the paper would arrange itself against the board spelling out the class. Tracking 101.

“Today you will be learning the basics of tracking. Not only is it important trait for ANBU, but even regular Shinobi will learn how to track their enemies and other things. And in this box, is what we are going to use to teach you how to do it.” Joukuu said firmly placing a hand on the bouncing box.

“So are you ready?”

He could tell from the teacher’s voice that he was disappointed, if not angry for his tardiness. Nanashi bit down his tongue to avoid talking back. It wasn’t like he wanted to be late anyway. He was still a bit mad at himself for not being powerful enough to have left that forest when he wanted, and instead had to contend with whatever ordeal there waited for him when the blonde had left the group back then. Still, he would not make excuses. Though he was quite surprised when the other had said that there wasn’t any other student, which was apparently because he had missed that said class back when he was stuck in the forest.

Curses! “Y-yes… thank you for having me,” he replied with a bow once more. He sighed at his incompetence.

Without further ado, the teacher went to post a sign on the board. The name of the class was apparently ‘Tracking 101’. Finally, something that Nanashi found rather interesting though he wondered if he would really be able to show off his strength in this type of class. Needless to say, it seemed to sway favourably towards that particularly branch in the village that he had made his personal goal. Though perhaps what he would be doing in that said branch was yet to be set in stone.

With the rest of the explanation laid out, the teacher then brought his attention towards the box on the desk, of which Nanashi had now noticed to seemingly be restless. He could tell that something was inside and when the teacher asked if he was ready, he nodded.

“Yes, I’m ready for anything. But, uh… what should I call you… for this class at least? I don’t want to be rude or anything.”

“It is no problem, and you can call me Joukuu, please don’t call me sensei. It still weirds me out.” the middle age man said in an honest way as he moved over to the front of the board. “Anyway, the class will be simple. In this box is something that will have to find and collect.” He said smirking some as he pulled down his scarf and bit into his finger easily drawing blood on his sharp canine.

Running the thumb over the padlock, a deep red rune slowly appeared on it and the chain fell off. The box stopped moving. Humming a soft tune, Joukuu would open the box up and reach his hands into the black box. “Ow. Don’t bite me.” Joukuu hissed as he pulled a hand quickly as inhuman yelping and whining. Reaching in again, Joukuu pulled out what he wanted to get. Pulling it up slowly Joukuu revealed a creature.

Holding it out for Nanashi to look at. In the man’s hand, was what could only be described as an imp. A small two foot creature, with leathery black skin, and a long tail. Its beady sickly yellow eyes were looking around quickly trying to gain its boundaries after being introduced to the room.

“This Nanashi, is an imp, a lowly demon found in the mountains that surround this village. They are basically harmless when it comes to fighting capabilities though they are known to carry a low of very infectious diseases. If it were to get into the village, many people would get sick.” Joukuu stated as he instructed the boy on the wide variety of demons that inhabited the world.

“You’re job is going to be easy. Find him before he escapes the academy and you pass, don’t and risk sickness to the whole village.” Joukuu said not really giving the boy much room for error. “Ready?” Joukuu asked as he would answer any questions before unleashing the imp on the academy.

Nanashi nodded as the other gave him a rather simple response. Perhaps Joukuu wasn’t going to be one of those hardline teachers who demand to be addressed with all the titles and such. Quite laidback, though Nanashi could see that the other was quite responsible and can be serious. For now, he would have to stand back and watch as the other formally began the class.

In doing so, he would draw blood from his hand and painted the crimson liquid over the lid of the said restless box on the desk. All of a sudden, the chains unclasped themselves and the box laid still. This was rather creepy and Nanashi held his breath as he anticipated for anything. He didn’t, however, anticipate what would happen next.

Nanashi was wide-eyed as he watched the strange creature that was pulled out from within the said box, seemingly struggling at first. Nanashi stepped back at first but when Joukuu reached out to give him a better look, he ended up coming nearer to inspect the creature, though careful to put some safe distance.

He was a bit alarmed when Joukuu explained what the creature was, careful to remember the dangers it posed and wondered what the teacher had in store it regarding the class. But before he could even say anything, the rule of the class was given and he suddenly felt like the burden of the world was upon his shoulder. Fail and the entire village could risk having an epidemic.

“Wait, you mean, just me? I mean, don’t you think it’s a bit risky for the rest of the village to be put in danger for…” he said but stopped as he knew that the very reason classes were there was to prepare future shinobi for life and death situation, and in this case, the very situation of possibly endangering the village if they were inefficient. And though he felt pressure placed upon him, he gathered his wits about him and regained composure. “No, I will not fail. I cannot fail. I’m ready.”

Joukuu’s expression did not change when the boy said that was dangerous. Maybe Joukuu was pushing a kid a bit faster than he should, but in real life a shinobi could face any sort of problem and have to respond to it. With an unwavering stare from his blue eyes, Joukuu waited for the boy to understand. When finally Nanashi finally understood Hissori would nod and smile under the scarf.

“Good now we can begin.” Joukuu said as the blonde man dropped the black imp would look up at the two humans before it bolted away from them. The speed that the demon ran away was surprising for something his side but soon he was out the hall into the quiet academy. Joukuu was moving at a much slower speed finding his spot in the front of the class room chuckling. “I forgot to mention, Imps can be rather fast. And two tips to help you on this question. Usually if sitting at a place for a short period, black mold will start to form in the area and then finally Imps are able to hold their breath for a very long time.” He said before waving his hand.

Outside, the imp was already causing a bit of a disaster. The sharp claws on the creature’s feet were leaving this trails with every step the imp had dug in ever so slightly into the floor as he went towards the main entrance of the academy

Nanashi had barely the time to react when the imp was released that it went dashing out of the classroom in immense speed. Of course, it was only fair that the teacher of this lesson would give that important note about the imp’s speed right when he had released it. For personal effect. But immediately, the redhead would respond as he would turn on his heel. The pressure placed on him- to capture the said imp– wasn’t merely because it was necessary for succeeding in this class, but because it meant the very survival of the villagers. A deadly disease wasn’t exactly appealing.

As he ran out of the classroom, he let Joukuu’s words resound in his head. Cryptic as they were, such hints would be useful. So first would be that he should pay close attention to his surroundings as the black molds are the trail to look for aside from the ever present scratches on the ground. And second, there was that notion about being able to hold its breath. Would that mean the imp was an anti-thesis to himself? That could be a problem, if he was to think of himself as purely a water ninjutsu shinobi. However, he had trained in another element for this very reason– to strengthen him and his chances– and thus, when he sighted the end of the corridor where he thought he caught a glance of the imp rounding the corner, he prepared his hand seals as he approached.

Gathering chakra along his hand, he turned at the end of the corridor and made a quick aim for the dashing thing as a whirling air bullet fires from the tip of his finger, shooting towards the target. [Air Bullet – [R1] He was allowed to attack it, right? In any case, trying to get its attention was his plan for now. To keep it within the academy was the logical step to keep it from leaving.

The imp would make a noise akin to a yelp as the air bullet shot at him. Surprised with what imp though would be a harmless boy, the black imp went spinning into the main hall as he disappeared from the view as the imp was senting spinning around the corner. What Nanashi would not see however was any signs of injury as he came from where he shot his bullet. There was a small scuff on the finish of the wall, but there was no blood on the ground.

Nanashi would be left for a moment lost. In the main hall of the academy, the imp could have gone anywhere. Down one of the three other halls, outside, or even up into the high ceiling. Luckily for Nanashi the large wooden front doors that he pasted through every morning seemed to be closed which mean the imp had no easy escape. This just meant that Nanashi had to find where the creature had gone.

Nothing in the circular entrance seemed to be out of place. Empty because all the days’ classes had already started. It would mean that there was no place for the imp to run. Hopefully he was in the area. Nanashi would have to start to search the area to see if the imp had no ran down another hall.

If Nanashi would take his moment to search the area, he would spot on a top of one of the book shelves a small patch of black mold that had seemed to been growing on a book shelve that had a couple decades worth of year books. If Nanashi would move closer to see if anything was there a shrill cry would be heard and something would leap right at him ready to spring and jump through a window.

Though his attack was successful, he thought, the imp still managed to escape. Nanashi skid the rest of the passage as he rounded the corner, hoping to a glimpse of the fleeing creature but he was surprised when he found himself arriving at the main entrance of the academy. He had not noticed that running around had let him there. He will have to be more cautious now or else things could get out of hand. The warning from earlier, a threat of impending disease, was making him all the more desperate to get this done and over with.

In any case, he began to search around, trying to make sense of the situation. And at one part he found bookshelves lined up with old books. He was about to ignore when his eyes caught sight of something unusual. It was black mold, just as the instructor had said.

Almost immediately, he felt the need to be ready, gathering some chakra about him as his heightened his senses. The water-attuned chakra of his was flowing readily as he stepped towards the bookcase, and just as he was examining the mold, he heard a shrill cry. He quickly turned to find the imp leaping towards him with full intention to distract him before it makes its escape.

“Not so fast!” he yelled as he took a step back to create some room while twisting his body to flash forward his hand that was surging out with his chakra. Almost instantly, the chakra turned into water that darted from his palm, shooting towards the imp. In addition, the spiralling tendril broke into two, one attacking from each side to corner and hopefully pierce the damn thing without mercy or chance of escape.
