Osuteno was experiencing many firsts today. It was the first time he had ever seen sand, of which there was lots of. It was the first time he had ever felt such a dry heat, of which there was lots of. It was the first time he had ever seen Ri-Senpai put so much effort into anything, and he had no clue why. They had been moving through the desert for quite some time before Osu noticed the city of Soon's Haven in the distance, the first he had ever seen besides Kumo, but that was not their destination. He knew only a little about it from what he had read such as it being a harbor city and its high marble walls were to keep the desert storms that had, until not too long ago, plagued the area. Osu did not know why the decades long storm subsided, but the point was that it was now much safer to cross the desert here. It also seemed that the sand on the coast was finer and more comfortable than that it the rest of the desert and people would do recreational activities other than fishing on the shores and shallows. This was an odd idea to Osu but he knew it was because he was used to the cold climate of his country. Here it was warm enough to enter without fear of frostbite. Osu was excited when he learned Ri was also curious about this place, though he did not explain why. As they reached the top of a hill Osu saw an ocean for the first time.
It was stupefyingly huge. It looked as big as the sky, endless! He kept trying to think of other words he could use to describe such an impossible thing but he could not even manage to wrap his head around just how big it was. He had read in books that the oceans covered most of the known world but to actually see it was another thing entirely. Osu began running towards it forgetting about how tired poor Ri was, but the nine-year-old was just so excited, even though his stoic face only showed surprise.
As he approached the beach he noticed closer to the city there was a lot of people. From the distance they were at they seemed to be in their underwear oddly enough. The people of Wind Country were a fascinating bunch. Without looking behind him he yelled back to Ri, "Look Ri-Senpai! I think all those men and women are in their underwear or something, it is like they are unafraid of burning up under all this sun!" Such an unusual bunch of people. Rather than going down what looked to be a half a mile or so to meet them Osu had something else higher on his agenda. He put his pack near the mouth of a nearby cave, looked out at the ocean and watched the waves pushing and pulling the water. He listened to the relaxing sound it made and nervously stepped towards it. He found himself quickly stepping back as the water came rushing in at his feet and hoped Ri had not seen him do something so embarrassing as retreat from naturally moving water. Proudly ignoring the fact he did just that, Osu walked out onto the water. It was difficult to see deep into the water below him, and he could not help but wonder how it was different from what he was used to. He stuck a finger in and sniffed it before licking it and instantly regretted doing so. "So salty!" He thought sticking his tongue out. Definitely unsuited for drinking. It was also weird to walk on with it moving around so much. He wondered if it would work any differently from fresh water if he used it in his jutsu.
First he tried some basic water jutsu and didn't notice any difference and gradually moved on to more difficult stuff such as Water Prison and was delighted when he saw he had captured a really colorful fish in the orb. "Ri-Senpai, you really come out here and look at this stuff, the beach is amazing!" He let the fish go and thought about more interesting things he could do. Osu sat down on the water and started channeling vapor chakra which was a little difficult for some reason but he soon managed to get a nice mist going. Osu had to wonder if it was the salty water of how hot the air was that made it difficult, but he had no answer and it wasn't a significant amount of effort so he just decided to ask someone later.
Now it was time to practice his specialty. He looked to make sure no one had wandered down the beach towards them while he had been playing and dropped a single drop of blood infused with chakra into the water. Suddenly a huge red tide of blood rushed out into the ocean pushing apart the waves that got in its way as it moved for some distance, though the color was a bit off from what Osu was used to, it was as big as ever and put the waves around them to shame, much to his pride. He looked back at Ri finally to see what he had been up to and to show off his wave he had made which even in his clan would have been considered an impressive size especially for his age.
