Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Raiden himself smiled upon the village that day, basking it's residents in the warm glow of a clear day. The people that gathered today were effervescent, swirling and milling to greet their fellow man and share in the rumor that had spread like a bushfire in the night. An exchange of office. A peaceful exchange of power.

It was true.

It had been many years since the Grand Announcer had had the pleasure of presiding over a sanguine event such as this. Raikage had become synonymous with death and sacrifice in the past half century, a fact not lost on it's people. It would be a joy to see a peaceful change in Raikages for the first time in many decades. Already Kumogakure's people readied for a celebration beyond recount, waiting only for his word to officiate and confirm their reason jubilee. The festivities may just overshadow his speech by the evenings end.

The old man rose, straining to balance his weight on his ancient staff, and took his place at the pedestal placed on the highest step of the Torre Celeste. The soaring edifice and grand architecture made a fitting back drop to the day's news. He bore and bent beneath the heavy ceremonial robes of his station as Councillor, and for today, Announcer.

"Brothers and Sisters of Kumogakure. Rejoice, for today is an auspicious and historic occasion!" He boomed, voice cascading across the gathered crowd. A hush fell over the citizens of Kumogakure, as if coerced to silence by the very sound of councilmen's voice. Flags bearing Cloud's seal snapped in the breeze, echoing in the stillness, as the eyes and ears of every gathered shinobi and citizen turned attentively to him.

"It is my great pleasure to come before you all on this grand and fortuitous occasion." he continued, sweeping his arms wide as if the embrace the entirety of the village. "To announce and bear witness to the exchange of office between Akira Saito, student of Shinbatsu , four time-Sennin, ninth Raikage and hero of the demonic wars and Ayumu, son of the Kogami clan, Twice-Sennin of Kumogakure, a hero of the Bear/Marsh conflict."

The silence broke then as the gathered people broke into a roar of cheering and applause. He basked in the clamour of approval, as pleased to deliver the brilliant news as they were pleased to receive it. Could it have simply been the relief of not bearing the shame of another lost Raikage?

He rose his hands for silence again, and continued to speak over the crowd as they quieted to a murmur. "For too long have the Raikage of Kumogakure, our greatest of warriors and leaders, fallen or vanished into the ages. Brethren, we have been dangerously close to seeing the last peaceful exchange of leadership stretch beyond living memory." the old councilmen's voice lowered gravely, sorrow seeping from every word. He cast his eyes across the crowd, knowing that all but the youngest had lived through the upheaval the loss of a Raikage dealt. Years had passed since the last Raikage, Hayata Shin, had fallen and more still since the fall of Kagetsu Kiyo but their loss had reverberated though and touched the lives of all within Cloud. Few could recount the days of Aion the Dawnbringer or Child Kage Eimin and fewer still those from beyond the Tech Age.

"It is by that sentiment, that I express our gratitude to our ninth Raikage." He said, making a sweeping gesture to the present, retiring Raikage, to draw further attention to the collosal man. "We thank-you, Akira, son of Shinbatsu for once again devoting yourself to Kumogakure. We are in awe of the strength and wisdom you have exhibited throughout your rule. We are indebted to you for seeing through the poison of democracy and lament your resignation. It pleases us all to see a peaceful end to your reign, an event seen so little by our kind. May you continue to guide us, as ever, from wherever your exodus takes you. As Aion brought the dawn to our people, you have stood as a shield to protect Kumogakure, like the very mountain around us. Thus, let you be known now and into the ages, as Akira, Mountain of Kumogakure." Despite his age, the announcer bowed, and many of the people followed his example with a bow of their head. No Raikage could be said to have pleased everyone. Akira Saito would be both blessed and cursed with having no tragedy to overshadow his perceived misdeeds, but perhaps a happy ending would work in his favour. Time would tell what historians made of his time as Raikage.

Now, onto Kogami-sama. The elder smiled warily, amused to compare the past and future Raikage. Kogami, Ayumu was still young but all could tell there would be a great difference between the two. Would he be like Shin, a scholar and peaceful man, a diplomat like Kiyo, or ascend to godhood like Shinbatsu or Aion? Only time would reveal the path of the tenth Raikage. "Our new Kage had proven himself worthy oh our trust time and again. At a young and inexperienced age, Kogami-sama stepped into the position of Anbu-Sennin when none other could fill the role. Despite his youth, he maintained the strength of our fearsome Anbu until felled by injury. He rose again to the rank of Main Branch Sennin where he has shepherded our shinobi force."

Another pause, this one a calm before the breaking wave rising on the horizon. He waited only long enough that collectively the mass inched forward in anticipation.

"As it has been ordained by the Council , Akira Saito, and the god Raiden himself, I declare thee Ayumu, son of the Kogami clan, Tenth Raikage of Kumogakures' Tech age. Long may you rule." He struck his staff thrice upon the stone steps, the sounds evoking the will of the lightning god Raiden to call for his blessing. His proclamation was met with three planned explosions above the crowds head and a cascade of paper confetti which swirled and danced at the beckoning of two paper jutsu affiliated Anbu. The congregation erupted again into a thunder of cheer and festivity.

"We will hear now, words from our past and our future. I call upon Saito-dono and Kogami-dono, if it is your will to speak to the people?"

Akira Saito
9th Raikage - Mountain of Kumogakure - Son of Shinbatsu

Akira stood there in his Raikage robes. His stern look on his face as he looked out across the crowd of people that he hard served for the better part of half a century. His mind ran back through his life as he thought about it.

First as a student in the academy alongside shinobi like Hayata Shin, Myoumi Akuhei, Daisuke, many others. His teachers, Masao, Numa, Ryuujin.

His Genin exam which was taken by the Raikage Aion. The scar under his shirt itched at the memory, where the murderer they had been sent after's axe had sliced through his young bones and muscle before they had managed to subdue him. It was the first time he had saved Shin's life.

His jaw clenched a couple of times at the thought and he held his composure. The event was getting to him

Picked as a potential ANBU Candidate. Things were different back then. He lined up with the others and the ANBU picked their pupils. The tall ebony warrior with an accent named Shouten Mitsukai picked Akira and two others who never lived through their trial. Only Akira survived that first day. The first quit when they were asked to swim through a pool of blood. The second died against a psychotic assistant that would become a kind of mentor to Akira.

The second time he had saved Shin's life, when Numa, a sensei from their academy days, attacked Shin and a student under Shin's tutelage with a friend of his. Akira had been watching as he didn't like the student and had felt slighted by him, he wanted to put the child in his place, teenage emotions getting the better of him. Yet when they attacked Akira thought of nothing other than what could he do to save his best friend. The area erupted in smoke by the end of the fight, Shin and the younger boy in a defense position, fear and uncertainty in their eyes. But Akira was watching them. They were safe, the unconscious bodies of Numa and Jenosaido collected by ANBU moments later, testament to the strength of the young AiT.

The demon wars occurred, and Akira was simply one of many, he was hailed as a hero of the war but his memories of his achievements were all but heroic. Mitsukai however was reborn as Shinbatsu, and the legend was born as he single handedly destroyed a demon king. Akira grew into a strong warrior under his tutelage and within the ANBU the pair were looked at with weary eyes, though even then the rumors of Shinbatsu's immortality and a small cult sprung up among their numbers.

As an ANBU Akira however stepped too far. He was investigating a Sennin, Ryuujin, brother of another Sennin and Raikage Ryuuto. Told to stop he didn't, and was cast from the village despite his actions potentially saving the pair their lives as he sent away a furious and bloodthirsty Shinbatsu, telling his master that he would handle the pair alone.

Since then he had traveled the shinobi world, returned to Cloud, served as Sennin for almost more years than all his other years combined, let the combined shinobi forces during the Bear - Marsh war, bore witness to the rise of many other great shinobi, witness some being cut down in their prime, felt pride in those who weathered the storm that a shinobi life had in store for them, and finally had taken his place in Cloud history as a Raikage. His actions as Raikage would be debated for decades, he was sure, he certainly hadn't been a Raikage promoting quiet, he had messed things about. His head turned slightly, his eyes looking out the corner towards Ayumu, one of the finest shinobi he had ever worked with.

When he took the title of Raikage he had only ever planned to pass it on when he had found a successor, after the village was in a state where they would have an opportunity to develop it into whatever they wanted, after Akira had shattered the corruption which had been in place for so long, after Akira had made changes which would turn the village from concrete into clay. He had found his successor. He was proud of the man who would take his place.

Then the words came announcing Akira to speak to the people.

Nodding his acceptance he stepped forward.

Thank you for your kind words, words which always seem so powerful when coming from you. I am deeply humbled. He bowed his head to the Grand Announcer as he took the front stage.

For a moment he looked out in silence. Speaking was never his strength, and yet he had done a lot of it in his life.

I would like to thank all of you as well. You are my family. Every one of you, and I have tried to treat you as such. Perhaps my decisions at times have caused some of you strife, but look around you and you will see dozens of other who it has helped. Perhaps I have elevated to high positions those who some believe do not deserve such. Yet they have proven themselves beyond reproach, and I thank you as despite your doubts, your concerns, you trusted me and gave them the chance simply because I asked you to.

That trust that you have in me is a trust that I have in you. I could only make those decisions because you are the people of Kumogakure. If you were anyone else none of this would have been possible.

I have chosen to once more retire my position and hand it to someone who I believe will lead this village to new heights. This doesn't mean that I'm leaving, it doesn't mean that I will not be here if I am needed. It means that I believe that I have done the best I can do, and that now there is someone better than me to carry the village forward into a new age.

Please, the people of Kumogakure, support him as well as you have supported me.

He turned side on to the crowd, looking at the young man who he had requested to replace him. His eyes showed his pride in the man that this shinobi had become. The young man who had served so well during the war, a war which had taken a toll on many, but had allowed the few to shine through.

Raising an arm he gestured for Ayumu to come forward, it was his turn.

Kogami Ayumu, your tenth Raikage. He smiled openly as he said that, an arm out to shake hands and embrace Ayumu with a perhaps slightly too hard slap on the back. Words exchanged from Akira to the man, quiet enough so that only Ayumu would hear them.

You have my full and unyielding support, my Raikage.

And then the embrace was broken. Akira stepped back, allowing the new Raikage to take his spot. His time was done in the spotlight. He was back in the shadow where he belonged, where his battle hardened hands could once more be used as they were needed, if they were needed, and without fear that his death would cause the village distress. He could once more fight with his life on the line and be fine should he fail. This village was under his protection until the day he lay breathless beneath its soil.

He smiled knowing that his life no longer was tied to the stability of the village. Knowing that he could die in its service. His eyes looked to Ayumu. He would die making sure that this man achieved great things if that was what was needed.

Ayumu had known this day was coming for a while now but it did not really prepare him. How did one prepare for this? He supposed he had more preparation now than he had for when he first became a Sennin, but this was bigger. This was evidenced by the noise coming from the crowd that had formed outside the Torre Celeste. Ayumu waited in the lobby of the tower which was more empty than usual. Most of the staff was given leave to head outside in advance of the ceremony to watch with the rest of Kumo’s population.

Ayumu, as usual, was clothed in his uniform of a black jacket and pants with red detailing and brass buttons. It never seemed to much suit his personality of informality but he for whatever reason stuck with wearing it. Perhaps it was because this was the easiest way he could be formal without having to try hard. Taking a break to relax himself as much as possible, Ayumu grasped the handle of the door of the Celeste and pulled it open before stepping outside to see the crowd which was even more massive than he had guessed.

Things had happened recently in his personal life which cast a dark cloud over his thoughts. He hadn’t been able to escape them much recently, but this event was something that was able to take the top spot in his mind for the time being. Smiling, he waved to the crowd and stepped out onto the platform at the top of the steps staying behind the announcer for now. His time would come soon. His eyes wandered and he found his son Susumu standing with his grandparents, Ayumu’s parents. His mother Kahako was absent, of course, given what had happened. This event gave Susumu something else to focus on too. Perhaps they both needed the distraction.

The announcer began his speech with his booming impressive voice which earned him his job. The crowd seemed excited, given that this was the first time the leadership exchange had taken place without some sort of betrayal marring the occasion in many years. Saito and Ayumu were announced with long titles. Ayumu could see the pride in his parents eyes as the “Kogami clan” was included. Being called a hero felt strange. He supposed he had earned some distinguishment in the Bear/Marsh conflict which earned him his promotion to Jounin. Then after he became ANBU Sennin, he had fought in the final battle with the Kingslayers which allowed peace to finally settle in between those two countries. He wondered in time if his title would sound as impressive as Saito’s.

Saito was thanked for his service and Ayumu bowed with the rest of them. They truly owed him a great deal. Were it not for them, they might have been unwittingly still serving the traitor Haruka. The thought disgusted him. Ayumu’s previous experience was listed as the crowd’s eyes turned to him. The following pause was not quite long enough for Ayumu to prepare himself for the official declaration that followed. He was announced as the tenth Raikage of the age officially as the planned explosions and confetti marked the occasion. It didn’t feel real at first, but the feeling of all those eyes on him quickly pulled him into reality.

As Saito was called, a man approached carrying the carefully folded robes topped with the traditional kage hat as well as another carrying the ceremonial sword that had recently been retrieved from the depths underneath the Torre Celeste. As practiced, Ayumu allowed the robes to be put on him. It was really more like a long white jacket which went over his uniform. He wasn’t certain yet if he wanted to keep wearing it after the occasion. They couldn’t force him if he didn’t want to! He bowed his head slightly and allowed the tri pointed hat to be placed upon his head and then accepted the sword, thanking the two men before they walked off stage.

Saito meanwhile had taken the podium to speak. He graciously thanked the people for the opportunity to lead them and for their loyalty and trust while promising to continue serving the village even as he retired from the Raikage position. He spoke of Ayumu as someone he trusted to lead the village in his place, something which meant a lot to Ayumu. It gave him some confidence that he could do it if Akira Saito believed he could. He announced Ayumu and beckoned for him to come forward and Ayumu did. They shook hands and Saito gave Ayumu a hard slap on the back reminding Ayumu of the man’s sheer brute strength. Quietly, Saito assured Ayumu that he had his full support. This meant a lot to Ayumu. He had to fight himself not to tear up slightly at the sentiment.

”Thank you,” Ayumu replied quietly before taking a deep breath and stepping forward to speak. He didn’t have the experience of the announcer or Saito of speaking before crowds, but he was used to speaking to his shinobi. He’d have to speak quite a bit louder here though. Fortunately, he had practiced beforehand. Clearing his throat briefly he began.

”Thank you, Akira Saito, for all you’ve done for this village. Greetings, people of Kumogakure. I am, as you have heard, Kogami Ayumu. I hope this is not the first time you have heard my name, but if so then I hope to prove to you my worth as your new Raikage soon. I do not accept this responsibility lightly and would not dream of accepting it if I did not have full confidence that I could do it justice. As I have worked as both Sennin of the Main and ANBU branches, I will work as your Raikage to better this great village and keep it protected as my predecessors before me have. As so many shinobi before us have given their lives to. We should all remember their sacrifices and strive to honor their memories,” Ayumu began, his voice reaching to the farthest listener aided by a sound jutsu specialist who was able to amplify his voice. Ayumu paused briefly before continuing with a transition to his next speaking point.

”One such recent sacrifice was by our beloved Raikage Hayata Shin, a man I considered to be a good friend. He was always working towards peace but in the end he was struck down by traitorous cowards from within while others betrayed him by standing by and doing nothing. He deserved so much more than that. By that sentiment, I wish to announce that construction will soon begin on a dormitory for the students who require it, named in his honor. In his life, Shin was a wise man and a great and passionate teacher. It is my hope that this will help immortalize his memory as he watches over the students of the academy and over all of us in spirit,” Ayumu continued, smiling as he announced the dormitory. This was something he had been excited to announce. The council had decided upon it recently and Ayumu was more than in agreement with it. It was the least they could do to honor Shin’s memory.

”I will not stand up here and take your time for much longer. I confess, I have never been one for long winded speeches or truly for formalities in general. So I will just say this: I swear on my life that I will do all that I can to serve this village well, whatever it takes. As they were during my time as Sennin, my doors will remain open for any who wish to speak to me personally. I hope that in my time as Raikage I will come to earn the trust of all of you. I thank you for the honor of being your Raikage,” Ayumu continued, pausing for a moment as he thanked the people of the village. He took a step back and bowed with his eyes closed for a couple of seconds before raising his head once more.

”Thank you,” Ayumu repeated before waving and stepping back to allow the announcer to come forward once more. He took a breath, glad that the speech was finished. Speaking formally was certainly not his forte and he only hoped that he had performed adequately. Fortunately for him, public speaking was only a small part of being a Raikage. Now that his part was finished he took a moment to look over the robes which he now wore and at the sword in its sheath which he had been clutching all along. He was still surprised the students in Yuii's class had managed to locate it. He supposed this added another weapon to his arsenal, unless this one was only meant for show. He’d have to ask if it was okay to use it for real.
