Upon discovering that there were some suspicious activity regarding those unknown men (who obviously didn’t belong to any of those homes in the residential district, especially when they seem to prefer entering houses using windows and not the doors, and it being conducted at night or near dawn when there wasn’t a soul along the streets to see them) Kiri finished remembering the said houses and buildings, making a mental map of the streets before heading back to Tomo’s apartment. And as he slipped into the window of the second floor, he found that Tomo was anxiously waiting. Apparently, there was a messenger earlier who delivered a message that was given to everyone in the police station. One of the gangs had the gall to send a threat to the authorities, saying that they knew of their names and that one by one they would be rid of because of their blind loyalty to the daimyo.
“So… they have something against the daimyo?” asked Kiri, a bit perplexed at the situation he was now in. At first, it was just a mere investigation he was helping with, but now it seemed to be more than that. And deep down inside, Kiri was beginning to feel a little uneasy because he was supposed to be a random visitor in this country and yet the recent events were pretty much putting him on the front lines each time.
He sighed as Tomo would explain the situation. So basically, the anger on the daimyo is mainly because of the sufferings from the past, but that was being used by the syndicates to mobilise their underlings with blind loyalty, making them feel this was the only way to get their life back together. And that even with the restructuring of Leaf, it would take more than that to show hope for the citizen. Not to mention that Crater City was a bit off ways from Konoha and was initially a place that gathered such shady people, it was no wonder the people were likely to become vigilantes and rebels than law-abiding citizens. However, Tomo made sure to assure Kiri that he, along with his friends in the police force, were keen to help the people stand back up and hopefully bring their city to better standards.
Glad that the other didn’t seem to be as anxious as earlier, now with renewed vigour and spirit, Kiri would then proceed to explain to him about what he had found out. He explained how the destination along the north district was indeed heavily guarded but there wasn’t any unusual activity, not until he reached the residential areas there. From one of the rooftops, Kiri explained how he saw the carts with the unknown passengers stop by in front of buildings before people began disembarking and entering through windows. Not only that, as he laid out the map on the table to indicate the said buildings and houses he had confirmed during the night, it seemed that an idea had sparked in Tomo’s mind.
“T-that’s them! That’s the Blue Torch Gang. I mean, they normally operate along the areas around it, but if they were sneaking it at daytime, it means that they were trying to get up on their bosses,” explained Tomo. And then, his face paled as he turned towards Kiri and continued, “Oh no. This could mean that they are about to strike. Normally, that would only happen under their bosses orders, but if they’re moving about their own turf discretely, then they’re trying to hide their movements from even allies. Which means…”
“Something big is coming, huh?”
A nod and they both understood the situation they were in. But at that exact moment, there was shouting outside the apartment so Tomo quickly looked out and saw that one of the messengers from police station was hailing him. Pointing to the direction of the North District, they would see a trail of smoke. “Oh no. Is it fire?” asked Tomo.
“I’ll go ahead and see. You better hurry and join your squad,” said Kiri as he exited the window again and began to hurry along the rooftops. From there, he began to head his way towards the northern district, but as he did, he saw that the smoke was dissipating. It then, occurred to him, that this was more of a signal. And as he looked towards the direction of the building he knew were those youth had hidden earlier that night, he saw that a few were beginning to run out with weapons on their hands. At that point, he couldn’t allow them to escape and create chaos in the streets. So he ran and jumped into the air before he formed a few hand seals that conjured a large black dome to trap the entire building inside with him.
From within, he could see clearly and hear that the youth were startled and panicking. He made sure that the striking shadows in the dome would not kill them, only enough to incapacitate them. And when one was almost lucky to reach him and swing a blade at him, Kiri only sidestepped and brought him down with a powerful throw that knocked him unconscious. It was quick, his shadows fast and the youth showing their immaturity and unpreparedness for this revolt they were trying to do. Thus, the dome would disappear as soon as it was calm inside. And when it disappeared, Kiri would find Tomo and a few more guards waiting outside. Astonished at first, but then Tomo quickly ordered the arrest of all the youths involved.
Later that day, while the police force were still on a lookout, Tomo would find Kiri in the apartment room once more, thanking him and asking if he would like to stay but the shinobi would only finish packing his things and bid the young investigator goodbye.
“I have somewhere to go. I’ll drop by when I come around next. Good luck, field inspector.”
