Hinote struggled to stand up after Junko patched him up; the med-nin may have seamlessly healed the bullet holes shut, but unfortunately for the student, the bullets were still lodged in his knees, rubbing against the tendons, bone, and cartilage and causing him an immense amount of agony. As he crashed to the earth for the fifth time, he looked up to see an all too familiar face still mocking him even after death.
"Damn you, you . . . you . . . you dumb bastard!" he shouted at the late Yakuza as he slammed his fist into the ground. "Was it worth it!? Huh!? Was it worth dying to see me suffer!?"
The boy struggled to stand up once more just to fall again, this time his face inches from the man's still face.
"Fuck you . . . " he growled through gritted teeth before spitting on the corpse itself.
"Hinote?" his childhood friend, Hanako, asked from the direction he had came from earlier. Hinote strained his neck to see her scanning the barren battlefield for him.
"Hanako!?"
"Hinote!" she exclaimed as she finally found him and raced towards him, concern apparent on her features. "Are you okay?"
"Just . . . a few . . . flesh wounds . . . that's it," he said as he once again tried standing up. After falling yet again though, he sighed and admitted the truth: "You're lucky you weren't caught in any of this bullshit too. . . . "
He propped himself on his butt and looked at her with his own form of concern.
"What are you doing out here at this time of night by the way?"
"I heard you shout while I was shopping with my father. But then we heard the gunfire so we hid in the store."
Hinote muttered another curse under his breath as he recalled the groceries he was supposed to buy earlier.
"Mom is going to be mad at me for getting involved in this."
Hanako sighed and hugged him tightly.
"I'm just glad you're safe," she whispered as the stunned Hinote patted her on the back. After she released him from her embrace, she stood up and pulled out her own headset. "Let's get you back in shape though."
Hinote simply smiled as Hanako fumbled with the frequency.
"Um . . . hello? We need medical support at the Dragon's Tooth Pass, just inside the gates. My friend . . . he can't walk for some reason."
After an hour or so, two med-nin came and carried Hinote back into the village.
