When left to her own agenda, the not-vertically-gifted Maya views the world through dull eyes, which are hidden behind unkempt bangs of long messy silver-white hair. Her soft spoken voice is often drowned out by the rustling of nearby leaves, and her fragile frame is easily masked behind oversized clothing, haphazardly tossed on in any arrangement that could pass for an attempt at modesty. The mark of Jashin is branded on the back of her neck.
But like a weapon to be used, when given a purpose to focus on, her previously disinterested gaze becomes sharp and her presence, reinforced. When drawing upon her Tsukumogami nature, her skin takes on an alabaster shade of white while becoming deathly chilly to touch; traits shared by the Pale Blade residing within her.

Listless and absent, Maya can initially be seen as someone who does not register the world around her as she goes about odd habits and patterns in a machine-like routine. Her interactions with others generally only occur because they appear in her way in some form, or otherwise register to her as something outside the norm. But do not mistake her disinterest and complacency as her being inattentive; she is perceptive and quick to notice things that that fail to register as "normal" for a situation, and her curiosity prevents her from ignoring these occurrences.
The thought process behind her dull expression are driven not by her muted emotions, but by her own brand of eccentric "logic" and "reasoning"; though others would likely hesitate to use those particular words to describe whatever judgement guides her.
She yearns for guidance and direction, but like any proper cursed possession, can be difficult to shake off once she deems someone worthy of being the "master" of the Pale Blade. Her previous aimless disinterest? Replaced by a fervorish purpose; a weapon is nothing without someone to wield it in battle afterall, and she will do everything she can to prevent herself from being separated and push her wielder to rely on her power in increasingly dangerous situations.

Character History:
A review of her personal record would list "Muramasa Maya" as the only daughter of a former Jounin of Cloud, who had retired after decades of service to a remote region of the Lightning Country to live his later years as a blacksmith. After having been discovered to be sensitive to chakra at a young age, she was sent to Kumo to undergo shinobi training.

What is omitted however, is the unique circumstance around her "birth". The elderly blacksmith had, at one point, been commissioned to forge a weapon from an unusual material, the bones of a "Frostfang". In life these beasts were said to stalk the mountaintops during during blizzard and devour the souls of the departed, and even now in death the blacksmith felt power still lingering in the bones. Curiosity and pride drove the man to see if he was capable of forging a weapon with such materials.
But there was no joy in his success. The weapon, a sword as pale as a layer of undisturbed snow, whispered to him and wished to feed just as the creatures it was forged from had. Muramasa's "father" was unwilling to release a weapon possessing such a cursed appetite into the world, and refused to hand it over to the man who had placed the order. The Stranger's response to this refusal was violence, as any devote Jashinist would do; this weapon was meant to serve as a tool for the rituals his Lord demanded of him, and the refusal of an elderly blacksmith was no obstacle to him. Taking the weapon from the defeated man, the Jashinist turned the pale blade toward its first victim; the nearby daughter of the blacksmith.
This was simultaneously, both the death "Maya, Blacksmith's daughter" and birth of "Muramasa Maya, the Pale Blade". Perhaps it was the weapons soul-devouring property and desire for a form of its own. Perhaps it was a girl who's will overcame a ravenous hunger of the weapon that killed her. Who, exactly, she awoke as is a question even to herself; but what she was she understood; the spirit of a weapon.
For the first few years of her awakening, Muramasa remained the weapon of the Jashinist, first "master" of the pale blade. Time spent reinforcing the belief of herself as a weapon meant to be wielded. The rituals and sacrifices could very likely have continued endlessly were it not for intervention of her father, the blacksmith, who recovered after the attack years ago. Having survived their encounter and recovered over the years, the man sought revenge for the murder of his daughter, and destroy the weapon he had created. Bringing his former shinobi talent out from retirement, he was able to make this a reality, and slay the Jashinist with the very weapon he had commissioned.
...But when it came to his final goal of destroying Muramasa, he was greeted with the image of his departed daughter. And he could not bring himself to see her as just a lifeless weapon. He instead took her in, attempting to reawaken the humanity within her over the year before using his former shinobi contacts to forge her identity and send her to Kumogakure.

Her time at the academy was unremarkable. She had met all expectations, never failing, but also never exceeding as an individual. Her nature as a Tsukumogami lead her to believe she was a weapon to wielded by someone, or something, other than herself. But overtime, her training began to be set in; in lack of a master to call her own, then she would be wielded by the village. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Medic branch to further this mindset.
But sooner or later, Muramasa would once again be drawn to battle. And she would again be a weapon, in one meaning or another.
