Character History:
Kuja was the first and only son born to Atsutane Kaido and his wife Aika. Up to today he remembers how his mother used to feed him, how the world was limited to the walls of his home. It seemed so huge at the time. What time his father did not spend on work he invested in his son, even though that was not quite a routine due to the lack of money in the household. Nevertheless, the little Atsutane family was happy. They had each other, enough to eat, and a house for shelter. It was never meant to stay that way. A stroke of fate would happen on the boy’s seventh birthday. Since they were living in a small, soon to be forsaken village, everyone knew each other, having half the population at the party.
Smoke rose over the village a few hours later as travellers passed through in the search of provisions. A massacre unveiled before their eyes. Walking through the main road of the village, they did not find an untouched house or a living person. Found among the dead is the proud village smith Atsutane Kaido. All the travellers could do is to pay their last respect to those fallen today and continue their journey. Nothing of value remained in the village but memories that still live in the Atsutane boy today.
Having experienced his father’s death, Kuja was weeping heavily as the bandits took him, his mother, and a few others of the village to their hideout from where they were going to be sold into slavery or worse. They were held in rusty, old cells where their nutrition consisted of nothing more than a rice bowl and a few cups of water a day. Slowly yet surely Kuja’s tears dried. “Everything is going to be alright.” did his mother keep telling him. A sweet lie and she knew it. What was she supposed to tell her boy? That his father died in vain trying to protect them? The young boy’s mind resembled a mayhem of emotions. His father had always taught him that hatred is the wrong path, a path that would consume your life, your ambitions, your happiness, but especially yourself. How could he not hate the people that killed his father and imprison his mother though?
Suddenly, the sound of blades clashing brought the dozing boy back to harsh reality. Now in a wagon that has been modified for prisoner transportation, the boy could barely pay any attention to the surrounding noises. Apparently a battle had erupted between the bandits and another fraction. Were they here to rescue him? To steal him? Maybe just other bandits or “tough negotiations”. Either way, being in shock, the boy seemed more like a soulless vessel when Konoha Shinobi broke open the transport and freed the boy. His mind was still a few hours back when they separated him from his mother. He cried,“ Mum! I will find you. No matter what. I will rescue you and kill all of them.” But she merely replied,” No. I want you to live a happy life. Don’t come after me. Forget about me. About these events.” Her voice was feeble compared to that of Kuja and as Aika turned her head before tears began running down her cheeks, the last words were as trivial as the sunrise. “Sayonara, Kuja-chan”
Once the Shinobi squad had reached Konoha, the boy was sent to the hospital immediately. He lost conscious right after they freed him due to exhaustion, malnutrition and dehydration. He slept for nearly two days through. When he woke up, a nurse or maybe a doctor, he could not tell, sat besides him. She asked him how he felt but he merely stared vacantly into space, his eyes showing nothing but emptiness. Losing his will to live more and more every second, all which kept him alive was the small hope to see his mother again. With what power would he achieve that though? As if fate wanted to give him the answer, the nurse started talking in a firm, assuring voice.
“You want to see your mother again, right?” It did not catch his attention yet, however what she was about to say would change the boy’s life entirely. “I can help you with that” Rocking his head towards her, struggling as if the weight of the entire world was on his shoulder, he pierced her brown, bright eyes with his. “I can help you to become stronger. Like those people that brought you here. You have to sign up to become a Shinobi” Of course, this sounded like the perfect solution. On second thought one will realize that this is rather a deal than voluntary help. Freedom for power. A price the boy is willing to pay without hesitation. Nodding, the boy turned around in his bed again, and the person in white left to allow for a little more grieving for Kaido.
Fully laden with hope and options, Kuja went straight for the academy after leaving the hospital. They had offered him Konoha citizenship out of sheer pity, because the boy had no where to go. Little did anyone know that his ancestors’ roots lie deep within the hidden Leaf village.
From here on things became rather trivial, at least for a Shinobi-to-be. Driven by his will to safe his mother and become stronger, the boy exceeded most expectations as an academy student. Though he had few friends, Shuichi was a close one. And later on, once he had passed his Chuunin exam with less gallantry than his Genin exam, he had also acquainted Kami. Befriending this guy took longer than with Shuichi, which was probably related to his harsh childhood and trust issues that resolved from that, but eventually happened. The reason those two made good friends with Kuja was probably their similarities. Both Kami and Kuja had known hatred. Be it towards them or from them. Yet, the Atsutane boy’s other side, the one his parents strived to strengthen kindness, forgiveness, and love, was still slumbering inside him and growing stronger by the day. I bet you thought that was for Shuichi. But no. Shuichi has money. Kuja is poor. There you go. Truth be told, there is more to their friendship than that. That is to be revealed in the future though.
Due to those teachings from his parents, the way of a med-nin was chosen. The branch seemed promising at the time as they lacked personnel. They still do today. So the odds of rising through the ranks were on his side. He needed the money, he really did. Aside from that, being a Shinobi had little good sides. A med-nin on the other hand is a preserver of life. A much more beautiful aspect of the ninja world, no? Not only did curiosity for the human anatomy and health move the young Shinobi, he was about 15 now, to study the arts of healing. His eyes proved to be a great asset in this section. Being able to read chakra flows by looking solely at their body is definitely a help.
A year before that though, during his Chuunin exam, Kuja had found a power deeply buried within him. It was a very class exam. First, a written test was held with personal and behaviour testing questions for profiling reasons. Third, they had to do some boring duels in front of people with too much money and time on their hands. The second one was the real gig though. 21 Genin teams fought over a hut on top of a mountain, and only one could win. Basically Halo 3 King of the Hill.
Just before they reached the hut, yet at the bottom of a hill, another team was lurking for strugglers. An ambush the three Shinobi, Kurosaki Hideo, Atsutane Kuja, and Hayate Najica, were ready to face as they began climbing the little mountain. Being of young age has advantages such as being overly energetic, motivated, and healthy, but also brings less advantageous features with it such as ignorance, stupidity, and snootiness. They managed to capture both of Kuja’s mates, demanding for a duel between him and their leader. Not like he had a choice. The foreign Nin (who apparently came from Stone) slowly got the upper hand in the fight. It did not look good for the humble boy. Even with his back to the wall he was rapidly getting out of ideas. As the Tsuchi-nin was about to finish this once and for all, Hideo managed to free his self just to be stabbed a second later by a Kunai as he tried to escape. The pace changed. Things got quicker from here. Techniques that were used against them abruptly worked for them. Face, kidney, chin. A three hit combo was enough to send the big mouth on his back. At once, his mates lunged at Kuja; a herculean effort that would bear no fruits. This whole scene was too familiar. Just that he had less power back then. Now he could change the outcome of this massacre, and he did.
Breathing heavily, the Atsutane boy did not understand what happened himself yet until Najica approached him. She placed a hand on his cheek. He trembled from anxiety, or maybe hate? A storm of feelings erupted inside his head as he activated the eyes for the second time. The first time which he did not notice was back when his father was killed. Maybe that was the reason why he was separated from his mother, who was probably sold into slavery while the merchandise in the boy’s case was his bloodline rather than his body. “Your eyes”, she said. “There are two Magatamas in it.” All three of them knew what this meant. With the three motionless bodies on the scene, the young man began to understand what happened to him seven years ago as well as right now. How the deuce did that happen? Unable to explain how the Sharingan found its way into his genes, all he could do was accept the fact that he had ancestors affiliated with the Uchiha clan. After calming down both mentally and his heart rate, the three accepted that they could not win this anymore with the Kurosaki clansman having lost too much blood to continue; thusly they continued their path to exit the battle field. Some examiner gave them props for this smart decision. Unfortunately that did not suffice to make them pass yet. The Hayate girl and the newly crowned Sharingan user managed to win the title of Chuunin for themselves in the duels though. That was also the last time they formed a team.
“Hurry, on the table! It’s a chakra poisoning.” A scalpel sharper than any weapon was used to cut open a small part of the abdomen of this patient. A black liquid poured out where the cut was made. Soon blue shining, chakra emitting hands were placed on the fresh wound. Assistants in the operating room were astonished by the red glare radiating from the surgeons iris. Seven years after the event above, the Atsutane was now a newly appointed med-nin. While healing people never gets bored, a new activity that was also related to Ninja medicine had caught his interest. Often did he read in books that he deemed older than Konoha itself about an enhanced version of the Sharingan. One would find him spend a lot of time in the Uchiha library (if such a thing existed), hunting an enigma. Transplants. No matter what way he researched what books he pulled out of the dust they were buried under, it all came to the same result. Eternity is achieved through transplants of special eyes. Eventually, there was only one person who he knew could help him. The Sennin of the medical Branch – Hasegawa Mana! “Can we stitch up the wound yet? Sir? HELLO?!” “Yes, of course! Excuse me.”, were his last words as he left the room in search of the delicate Sennin. "I think I have seen her before."
Can I swap those blank jutsu to Yen? Also need Kami and Shuichi's approval. What's next?
