Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

She had her subject.

She had her location.

She had her incentive.

She had her desire…

The puppet Kunoichi from a village in Snow Country too small to have a name now walked towards one of the greatest shonobi villages in the known world, tasked by the Dark Sage of Suna himself to take the head of its military leader, the Hokage.
The Benevolent Shinogami had also tasked her with an additional request, frame Suna, impersonate it’s Anbu and start a war. Her puppet strings surrounded the small, strange group of puppets like a mad spiderweb of invisible ninja-wire, the inconsistent pattern hiding the puppet master amongst the puppets.
She had planned ahead, each puppet disguised as a shonobi bearing the iconography and uniforms of Sunan Anbu. Walking in front of a small rattling cart strode the keystone to her deception, a perfect copy of the Sunan shinobi named Kaen, well, at least a perfect copy as represented to her by Akkuma, the meat-puppet even containing a sample of the mans actual blood.
As the small group approached the vast gates of the village proper, the puppets shuffled into line, human like movements present in all of them through subtle manipulations of her chakra string spiderweb.
As it became the small groups turn to pass through the shinobi checkpoint a stoic looking leaf shinobi, identifiable as Jounin by his uniform, held up a lightly armoured hand to stop their casual progression. The leaf shinobi spoke in a calm, clear voice as he repeated the words that he had spoken a thousand times before…
“Passports please.”
The meat-puppet, disguised as Kaen of Suna was the first approached as he walked at the front of the small party. The puppet gave the Jounin a smile as he reached into a pouch on his waist, producing a pristine, obviously new Sunan passport. The puppet brushed some non-existent dust off of the cover of the passport, casually passing it to the waiting shinobi’s outstretched hand.
The experienced gate guard felt on edge, something felt wrong about the party but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it, perhaps the newness of the passport or the slight smile on the Kaen-puppets face, but he would give him the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement until after he had at least learned the mans name and rank from the passport.
The gate guard almost snatched the passport, his battle hardened eyes stayed locked with the grinning Sunan puppet as he opened the cover of the passport. The concealed booklet of exploding notes contained within exploded with a sudden burst of light and sound, chakra infused kinetic energy tearing the flesh from the bones of his hands.
“Agni-Kai!” The Kaen meat-puppet shouted the verbal challenge as bright, vision obscuring flames engulfed both the gate guard and meat-puppet alike.
To an outside observer it would look as if the detonation had been the signal from the shinobi teams leader to begin the attack but in truth the puppet master pulled all the strings, almost simultaneously releasing a barrage of ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu with deadly efficiency. It was a blitz, utilising the moment of distraction, the exploding note detonation followed by the Agni-Kai, the group of Sunan disguised puppets fanned through the remaining, momentarily startled and stunned gate guards and civilians alike. Each slaughtered with cold efficiency, like sheep before the butchers knife.

Soon no one remained standing, Konohan blood soaking into the ground beneath the shadow of the great gates of the village hidden in leaves…
The flames of the Agni-Kai flickered into nothingness once more, the Kaen meat-puppet stepping over the charred remains of the Leaf Shinobi, his lightly armoured foot cracking through the dead man’s wrist as the small group of Sunan disguised puppets flickered away with shinobi speed towards the village proper.
That is unless a bright soul appeared to challenge her… she doubted there were any of those left in this village, though, no this was a job, a contract, she would take the head of the Hokage, it was only a matter of finding her…

The smell of death filled the air. It was an odor the Sennin had become familiar with many times and she knew it well. The ground shook under her and the distant shouts and screams were unmistakable. Her eyes flicked towards the gate, too dark, much too dark and the lights often carried on the night shift were not there, a visible assurance that the village was well protected. Without wasting a second, her hand was on her ancestral sword strapping it to her back as her other hand threw on her battered vest shouting to her assistant as she burst through the door.

"With me!"

Almost, like a practiced routine, her ANBU guards fell into place beside her as Soku covered ground in relatively shocking speed, her ANBU training proving useful once again as she neared the gate. It was clear something was wrong as they got closer, no guards, the odor of something was there as she held up a hand to stop. "Phoneix, Lamp, fan out, engage and announce contacts."

The ring of steel on leather as her sword cleared it's sheath as she stepped forward and stopped almost instantly. Blood, a lot of it that made her want to puke and she probably would have if it hadn't been for her seeing this scene before. The charred remains of a guard lay at the front kneeling down. His face was barely recgonizable but he had been one of them, a Leaf shinobi killed ruthlessly as she called out.

"Phoneix, Lamp, to me."

They reappeared at her side shaking their head in a negative gesture.. Nothing, someone had waltzed in, killed a shinobi and was probably around roaming free. That was when it hit her, a murderer was in the village, Konoha's defenses had failed and all of them were at risk.

This was a sin that was unforgivable. It was a declaration of war.

"Alert everyone, I want ANBU teams turning over every stone and twig out there, villagers are to be confined to thier houses until I say so otherwise. Shut the gates, no one leaves or enters."

Almost immeditatly, it all fell into clockwork as alarms begin blaring announcing that something had gone terribly wrong as a gloved hand reached up to her headset clicking it and composing herself at first, she said calmly.

"This is Sennin Soku. I need every available shinobi at the gates, there has been an attack. Engage emergency protocols,."

Words no one wanted to hear as she knelt down beside the broken, dead man laying a hand to his chest. A valiant man doing a simple job, he had given his life and they didn't even know who it was. She had sworn no more death on her watch and it had happened again.

"I don't know who you are but if you think you have the gall to walk in and trample all over us without repercussions, you have another thing coming."

But who? Who had they angered?

Asuka was in her office, leaning over the mountain of paperwork standing before her. Sighing she leaned back on her chair contemplating the simple amount of time it would take to finish this task. That is until she heard it. That familiar sound. It rocked her building as she quickly turned back, her eyes fixated all the way to the fire.

"What the...?" Her eyes turned wide as she jumped off her chair and opened the window. Quickly jumping down and sprinting across the village. It didn't take her long to get there but the situations running through her head. It was panic inducing. Once she had arrived though she quickly took a look around. It was if it she was in the battleground once more... but... this was a one sided fight. She could tell. No since of a fight, just a massacre.

Slowly she walked forward, looking around. She saw her shinobi scrambling about. Investigating the scene. The smell of fire, blood, death preempted her to think this was intentional. Someone wanted their presence known. Clinching her teeth she looked down, clenching her fists. This was her fault. She tried being peaceful. Was trying to be better. Trying to let people find their way. But apparently that wasn't the case. She looked back up and spotted her Sennin, her sister.

Slowly walking next to her she could tell she was on the brink of rage. On the brink of losing it. With a sigh she slowly reached for her hand, grabbing it. Trying to comfort her. No that wasn't it.... Asuka was trying to find comfort. "This was intentional. Seeing as though only the gates were hit they're not here to invade the village." She spoke, her eyes starting to tear up. "Emergency protocol is not enough." She sighed, she didn't have time to waste. Her mind racing through different tactics. "The village is now in a state of emergency. Mandate a curfew. All shinobi out on missions are to report back to the village ." She clenched her teeth trying not to cry. Why... why did this happen.... "We need ANBU to investigate the scene and figure out what they can." So many good lives lost... so many... "Identify the bodies.... send wor..." She sniffed. Their defenses were breached this easily. They weren't ready. They're not ready. "We don't have enough. Send word to the other villages, ask for support."

She barely registerd the presence of the Hokage as she glanced around at the scene. Even after so many years in warfare, this was different. Her trained eyes registed what a fight looked like and what murder looked like. The poor man hadn't even had time to reach for his weapon before the explosion had took him. Konoha, the Village Hidden In The Leaves had fallen once again and once again, their shinobi had been the victim of some ill intention.

She squeezed Asuka's hand pulling her close. "Phoneix, inform the shinobi's family." It was said in a grave tone, a tone that indicated no debate. There was nothing more to be done here, sure, they would try to pull evidence and what they could from the rubble, perhaps get a clue. She had already scrambled various teams to key points to intercept anyone who even remotely like they were u p to no good but Soku suspected anyone would linger for long after a fiasco like that.

Then again, why would they go to all this trouble for a measly gate guard. It was far too easy to slip in a knife between someone's ribs instead of imploding the entire gate and rousing the alarm. It had to be something else. "They had a purpose, they wanted to get in and for a reason." Soku said slowly thinking more logically slowly as she paced the scene trying to put two and two together. If it had been the guard, it would have been as simple as walking in, disposing of him and walking back out but no, their purpose was deeper within.

She turned to Asuka. "They're in there, whatever they want, it's in there, there's a murderer walking around our village, Asuka."

She shook her, her little sister to get her attention. It could be anyone but the most common threats were against the leadership, very few of them turned out to be real but assumptions had gotten them killed before. She remembered all too well what Frost had done with Maki, what unspoke forces had done with Yukio, what the horrible unseen forces of Sunagakure had done to her and the list went on and on.

As of right now, the only high-value targets would be herself, Asuka, Sennin Nao, Hikaru could be a liable target as well and that would not do well. Her voice became sharp and commanding beckoning to a few of her own Main Branch who had arrived as well. "Kumi, Loho, go with Lamp, I want Lady Hokage escorted back to her residence under strict guard, no one is to enter or leave the Hokage Tower no matter who they are without prior approval from me or Lady Asuka."

She turned to Asuka and it was clear her eyes held a message. "I'm not taking risks, someone came in here and they came for something and I don't want that something to be you."

She took both of her hands in her. "Go back, be safe and frankly, I think we need to call a meeting, let everyone else know what has happened just in case someone else's life is on the line."

Toshi looked at what went on around him with a blank stare. People were being rushed by different operatives to safety. Toshi didn't know what was going on, but he knew not to panic.

He overheard the call over the opp's headset. He then knew that something was terribly wrong. The opp looked to Toshi. The boy could only wonder what was going through the opp's head. He looked to the opp, frozen, still trying to understand the situation. As the opp moved closer to him, Toshi's face showed a determined look. He slowly began to began away. The opp stopped and looked at him for a moment. Toshi didn't know what it was, but the opp looked away from him. The opp glanced at the kid once more, and then vanished. Toshi gulped, regaining his footing as he looked around. "Did he just let me go?" A determined expression now lay on Toshi's face as he began for the gates. This time it wasn't about proving himself. He felt that he was a capable shinobi that was able to handle his own, so he would provide any help he could.

On his way to the gates he helped whatever civilians he could evacuate to their homes. Escorting them to safety if need be. He even found a kid about his age on the ground crying. Toshi bent down with a smile, wiping the boy's tears. "Hey, everything is going to be ok. Are you lost out here?" The kid looked up to Toshi, sniveling behind his chocked gasps. Between the tears and , Toshi could feel the aura of emotion from the kid. It made him feel some type of way. It wasn't anger, but a mix of emotions, that held on to his heart. The kid simply replied no, wiping his face as he came to a stand. "I could take you home to safety if need be."

***

Toshi crept along the shadows of the gates. The first thing he noticed was the stench of the place. Something or someone died out here. He now knew the depth of the situation. It was beyond him, but he wouldn't back down. He thought back to the civilians that rushed on their way. Did they know their lives were in jeopardy? Toshi shook the thought. He was a shinobi of the village. He was their protector. A kill wouldn't stop him from his duties. He continued to push forward.

He stopped in the distance as he noticed Asuka and Soku conversate. He knelt down, trying to conceal his presence, but he knew the two more experienced shinobi could spot him. He tried to listen to their words, but they were too far away to hear. He didn't want to be sent home, but he wasn't going to stay in hiding.

He slowly approached the two, a determined expression lay on his face. He looked to the two, noticing the tears in Asuka's eyes.

"Lady Asuka, Soku-Sensei." The boy announced his presence, taking a kneel before the two. The opps that were around didn't frighten the boy, he knew they were highly skilled in taking out a culprit if need be. He then came to a stand. "The civilians of the village are being ushered to safety. I didn't notice any casualties while out there."

He was sure the opp's had things under control, but the forehead protector that was tied loosely around his neck wasn't going to allow him to back down. He looked to the dead opp on the ground, his demeanor, now a bit more calm, didn't waver.

"I'm here to help," He looked to Asuka, remembering what she told him to work on while speaking to her at her office. "And not throw my life away. I understand my worth as a shinobi, and will lend any help I can." They were tough words for the boy, but he wasn't going to run away from this situation.

Inform the shinobi's families. That hit her like a truck. They were somebodies sons and daughters, somebodies brothers and sisters, somebodies loved ones, the only thing she hated that she had to accept was that the Shinobi life was not one without it's troubles, it's tragedies. Death was a sweet embrace. She simply nodded as she was held close. What if Soku was among the casualties? Or god forbid, Kairi.... what would she have done... felt. Clinching her teeth she simply listened.

She already knew that. If this was an invasion then they wouldn't have stopped at the gates. There were easier ways to sneak into the village. No, they wanted to send a message. That whoever it was, was here. She tried to calm herself down, but she couldn't. She had never been good at keeping her emotions in check, something she could've learned from Takeshi to say the least.

Soku's shake took her mind out of that. She was panicking. Just like she was. Maybe it was for the village, maybe for her, maybe both. In reality she had to step up, she had to be like her predecessor, ruthless, better up their defenses, figure out their plans and squash them... but... at what cost? More misery? More lives?

She tried to do things different, place value on those whose value was only measured by others. Have individual lives weigh the same. Protector or protected. Didn't matter. Whether the shinobi life was hell or not, at least everyone would be appreciated and valued. But in the end, it all ended in a flash. As Asuka was shaken she didn't react. Once stopped she simply looked up to her sister. "And do what? What till whoever did this comes for me? Until they kill more people? We don't exactly have the force we used to Soku. We are spread thin already and throwing bodies at someone who dispatched Jounins with little effort won't make things right. What if the next victim is Nao, Hikaru, Toshi, their families. MY FAMILY." She screamed out in frustration, yep... always had her heart in her sleeve. "What if you Kairi gets targeted? Or you? I can't loose anyone else." She sighed, looking up at the sky for a few moments before turning her head.

Toshi walked forward to them, offering his help. God damn this idiot. He still hasn't learned a thing. With a small smile she walked towards him and patted his head. "I may have misjudged you pipsqueak." She chuckled turning to her remaining forces. "Scour the village, find any clues that might help to find the person responsible for this. If you do, do not engage them. Call the leadership. I don't want needless death over this. Is that clear?"

Asuka had a point. In fact, she had several points that were true and as much Soku refused to admit them, it was for the better. They were Konohagakure shinobi, they understood the sacrifices that had to be made for a better future and it was beyond them to wind up lock and key while murders senselessly happened.

Soku opened her mouth to protest, to say anything but nothing came out. This was not a time to argue, it was a time to act and clearly, the Hokage was not going to sit idly by in her office while things went to hell in a handbasket.

"That's the risk we took when we took this job, sis." Soku spoke quietly, her voice full of emotion laying a hand on the woman's shoulder as the two of them stood there among all the death, all the blood letting it linger over them barely registering Toshi
s arrival merely acknowledging them with a brief tilt of their head.

"We knew there were going to be attempts, we hold dangerous roles and everyone knows to topple a snake, you cut off the head and in this village, we are the head."

More heads would grow but it was clear someone was sending a message, they were out for something and they wouldn't stop until they got but that didn't mean Soku was going to put her blade in it's sheath and just let the Fifth Hokage advertise herself to any murderer who might be out there.

"Fine, I won't babysit you but you better believe it when I say I'm gonna be right there if something else happens, you mean too much to me."

Her eyes flicked to Toshi for the first time gently nodding as she made eye contact with him. "Solid work, just keep everyone calm, can you? Whoever did this, Lady Fifth and I will take care of it, just keep yourselves safe, your lives are more precious than ours."

Her hand tightened around her sword hilt flinching as the sound of running feet against the concerete and her blade was out of it's sheath in an instant before relaxing, it was one of her ANBU guards frowning as he looked panicked almost as if something else had happened.

"Phoneix, is everything in order?"

"Lady Fifth, Sennin-sama, please come quickly! There has been an attack at the Hokage Mansion, a full squad has been murdered in a most horrible fashion, I only just happened upon it when I heard screaming!"

That fact hit her like a train, a full squad. "Phoneix, what do you mean a full squad?" She asked slowly the horrible realization creeping into her.

His eyes lifted to meet hers shaking. "Young, Soku-sama, so young, if I recall, they were Team Naha undertaking the security detail for Lady Fifth's residence."

She swore, something foreign to her and her eyes glittered blood-red, the clouds above roared their approval with a flash of thunder, it was that Santaru anger. "Toshi, notify Sennin Nao and Hikaru of the situation. We have multiple deceased, work with the med-nin to arrange for proper arrangements for the deceased."

She turned to her little sister, her Hokage, her only other half. "Me and you are going to track down our friend."

Without waiting for a response, Soku turned and darted towards the interior of the village which was quickly becoming a chaos zone as shinobi barked orders hustling villages this way and that as squadrons of ninja began searching the streets after a second attack.

The pat to the head was enough to lift his spirits a bit. He would stay in line this time and not engage in battle if he found The culprit. He would radio in for help if need be. It looked like things were out of his hands at this point. He would help out around the village as Asuka asked. The next day or two, he would be talking to civilians, seeing if anyone has any information on the ongoings. Watching the gates would become his new hobby if it meant he could stop catastrophies such as this one. Maybe he'd come out from the clan house a bit more to tend to such duties.

The green eyed Genin replied to Asuka with a "10-4." Soku also gave him a bit, it wasn't his place to handle such matters, but keeping the villagers safe would be an ok way to help out. Toshi nodded.

At the sound of someone approaching, Toshi tensed up. He moved to a defensive stance, only to drop it upon seeing it was an ANBU. It seemed Soku also was prepared to handle the foe, but it was only a false alarm. Hearing the news that an entire squad was stopped was heart drenching. The boy took the information to the head. Shinobi life could creep up on you and surprise you like that, so one would always have to be ready. Toshi knew that he would have to push himself further and harder if he wanted to stand as a challenge. A villain taking out an entire squad was something the boy couldn't imagine.

His focus shifted to Soku as a determined expression reappeared on his face. The flash of thunder had Toshi thinking of the villagers. He loved the rain, he felt in his element. Soku have the order to find Hikaru and Nao. People were doing, and they needed medical aid asap. Toshi nodded, and like that, he was off.
