Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

ANBU Sennin Kogami's Representative

To those who had been called to class, which included mostly trainees and freshly promoted ANBU, a letter would have been delivered either that morning or the day before. Since Santaru Rin had died, a tradition had died with her temporarily, but it was now returning. Each letter was more than a mere letter. The courier was an expert of paper and fire jutsu, a dangerous combination. If the letter didn't outright explode after 5 seconds of reading the last word, it would ignite even more quickly. Of course, the courier was not so cruel as to give no warning. At the end of each class summons, which were often sent by way of paper airplane, was a cautionary note that the letter would be best disposed of immediately, and not in the direction of anything flammable. Most took the caution seriously.

Touma awaited the class participants in a classroom within the Sileo. Some trainees lived within the Sileo, others lived nearby, all were expected to arrive to classes on time when they were called to them. Some students had arrived already and had taken seats at desks throughout the room. Some looked bored or tired, it was the morning after all, and others had on a face of enthusiasm whether true or forced. Some were on missions. Some weren't called to this particular class as there were only so many slots to fill in one class. Some who had been called were still not present. They had five minutes.

"Told you it wasn't kidding."

While Airi's words didn't echo in the underground tunnels they certainly seemed to echo in Hiraku's head. He looked up at her as she hovered along next to him, a displeased expression etched into his face. His right hand was throbbing with pain, his fingers still mildly burnt and pink, "Well you tell me a lot of things Airi. Part of me thought you just wanted to see me panic.

Airi laughed, "Oh dear baby brother, you make me sound like such a horrible person." The pair continued their journey through the Sileo Tempestas, "Besides, if I wanted to see you panic I'd just point out that you only have about two minutes left to get to class". Hiraku stopped, his eyes slowly slid to the corners of their sockets to see her smile shimmering sheepishly. His mouth released a disgruntled sign, typical.

One and a half minutes later Hiraku slid to a stop outside what he sincerely hoped was the correct room, he took a few seconds to catch his breath and quickly stuff his injured hand into his pocket before opening the door and slipping into the classroom. The other students had scattered themselves fairly evenly at the desks around the room, Hiraku quickly spotted a vacant seat and claimed it. "Don't look so gloomy, you'll scare everyone away." Airi said as she floated down onto the seat next to him.

"We both know what normally scares people away is me sitting here talking to myself." Hiraku muttered quietly, taking a slide glance at his sister, "Let's just get through the rest of the day without any major disasters shall we."

Almost every trainee that was supposed to attend showed up, and about a third of them showed up in the 5 minutes before the class was to start. Touma watched as each person entered, carefully studying them with his calculating eyes. He noticed as Hiraku entered the room and the hand stuffed into his pocket, a classic sign of a trainee that didn't take the message seriously. It had been some time since Touma had seen those burns and it warmed his heart. As if it made Hiraku feel any better, he wasn't the only one nursing a burn that day, as he'd discover looking around the room. Touma watched as the boy took his seat and stared with a slightly troubled look as he began mumbling under his breath to the empty seat next to him. They would have to watch his mental health.

As the clock struck on the hour, it was time to begin the class though one final straggler flew through the door with a second to spare. The trainee made a b-line for the seat next to Hiraku but as he went to sit down he felt a chill and a strong urge to choose another seat for some reason. As soon as he found another desk, Touma began. "Well then, seems you're all here. And it seems some of you learned a valuable lesson about underestimating threats... even those in letter form,"<i></i> he said, looking around the room at a few students who weren't hiding the slight burns on their hands. It was a lesson, but it was more so a matter of destroying a message sent by the ANBU. For the most part, no correspondence between ANBU was considered appropriate to fall into non-ANBU hands, even a summons to class.

"Today we're here to talk about the art of reconnaissance. Can somebody tell me what that means and give me an example of a time when you might be sent on a reconnaissance mission?"<i></i> Touma would ask, looking around the room for volunteers first as he always did. It usually came down to him needing to choose a representative for the class, but he always gave them a chance to step forward on their own first.

There was only one person to enter the class after Hiraku, practically sprinted through the door with next to no time to spare. He maintained his haste as he flew across the room in search of a seat, his search which brought him to the seat next to Hiraku.

"Don't you dare kid," Airi growled as if the boy would be able to hear her, "Yeah, that's what I thought!" The boy hesitated for a second before deciding to find a place elsewhere in the room. Hiraku looked down and managed to supress his laugh, instead just grinning to himself. Part of him wished that Airi didn't know how to tickle him so easily, but at least it took the sting out of people tending to avoid him. Hiraku looked back up just as the teacher began to speak.

"Well then, seems you're all here. And it seems some of you learned a valuable lesson about underestimating threats... even those in letter form,"

Hiraku took a moment to look more closely at his fellow students, it seemed like he was not the only one to feel the impact of carelessness. No one in the room would be making that mistake again anytime soon.

The lesson began with an open question, wide enough to intimidate anyone who wasn't already comfortable with the topic. Hiraku paused to see if anyone would volunteer an answer, he had an answer ready but wasn't really confident enough to be first, unfortunatly he knew Airi wouldn't let him sit there when she knew he had something to say.

When the time came a short burst of teasing and chicken imitation from Airi persuaded Hiraku to raise his hand, after being acknowledged he offered his answer.

"Reconnaissance is the act of gathering information and can be done through a number of methods, be it scouting, shadowing someone or simply asking around." He paused to think for a second, "An example of a reconnaissance mission could be pinpointing the whereabouts of a high value target and then scouting the location in preparation for a follow up mission to capture them."

To Touma's pleasant surprise, there was actually a volunteer for once. The one known as Hiraku spoke up in response to Touma's question, defining the word that was the topic of the day. This was a class to teach about the subject, but it helped with teaching to see if any in the class actually knew some about the subject or if it was a completely fresh start. It appeared that Hiraku at least knew some basics, though it wasn't clear how much more he might know. Still others remained silent, so there would need to be some coverage of the basics.

"Good, good. Yes that is essentially what reconnaissance is, and that would be an example of one such mission. Would anybody else like to give me another example?"<i></i> Touma asked, scanning the classroom. Another trainee raised her hand, perhaps following Hiraku's lead. Touma was glad to see that they were being somewhat proactive, at least some of them. "Go ahead,"<i></i> he said, nodding at the trainee.

"In the case of an opposing force standing in our way, you could send a scout to get an estimate of their numbers to plan accordingly," the girl said, sounding cautiously optimistic about her answer. Touma nodded approvingly, satisfied with the answers from the class.

"Good. Another example might include scouting the layout of an area before sending in the main force. One might send in their recon unit to a building to find the number of floors, where guards are posted, any exterior access that might be less noticeable. As Kurosawa-kun here has said, we might send in a recon unit to pinpoint the location of a target be it a person or otherwise before we make a plan to acquire the target. Now a recon unit is obviously going to consist of those who are good at stealth. You want a small unit, and a speedy one at that. Can anybody tell me why?"<i></i> he would ask, looking around for volunteers once more. It was often those that spoke early that would answer the most questions in his experience, which was fine as long as the others listened.

Hiraku got a warm sense of satisfaction as the teacher seemed pleased with the answer he gave, he was lucky enough to already have a foundation level of knowledge in the material, even having been on some very simple reconnaissance missions during his time as a Genin. He looked over to his sister for recognition, she had always been difficult to read.

"Ok baby brother, you got one question right, don't let it go to your head."

In reality she was immensely proud of Hiraku, he was always progressing and moving forward towards achieving his goals, the desire to do so was something that they had in common. A few moments later another student offered her answer to the teacher, Hiraku watched as her answer was also approved of.

"You better be listening, this stuff could be important someday soon." Airi said as she realised Hiraku was still occasionally glancing over at the other girl while the teacher was continuing with the lesson.

"Of course I'm listening," he replied quietly, making a conscious effort to focus on the teacher and hide the redness that he could feel rushing to his face. Airi shook her head and laughed quietly to herself, it amazed her how so little had changed in all their years growing up together, Hiraku was still curious and eager to explore everything while she was still forever shepherding him back towards the right path.

"…Now a recon unit is obviously going to consist of those who are good at stealth. You want a small unit, and a speedy one at that. Can anybody tell me why?"

"Come on, you know this one too." Airi said as she nudged Hiraku the best she could without actually having a physical presence.

Hiraku did as he was told and cautiously raised his hand again, this time his answer was more of an educated guess, his past reconnaissance missions had never really involved much danger or any real concisenesses of detection. When the time came he spoke again. "Umm…I suppose it is because the point of sending a recon unit in the first place is to avoid direct confrontation while you gather information, you're not there to fight and if you do get caught there isn't much in the way of backup."

For the first time in her existence, Airi felt helpless. Even though she was immensely proud she still hated thinking about the danger Hiraku would be putting himself into in his future as a Shinobi. There was only so much she could do to protect him now that she was in the other world and she knew that his previous missions were nothing compared to what he'd be expected to do as an ANBU. Still, she knew that she must do as she always had, follow Hiraku and look out for him no matter what he chose to do.

Another question, another class devoid of arms raised save for one. Hiraku was once again raising his hand to answer a question. Touma was pleased to see someone with some enthusiasm in the class. It made a class flow much more easily when there was a volunteer to answer questions. He nodded in Hiraku's direction, giving him the go ahead to answer the question. The way he answered seemed to lack full confidence, but it took some measure of confidence to raise his hand and answer to begin with while others sat silently. Touma could recall the slight tinge of fear that he would answer a question incorrectly in front of everyone. It was enough to make most students remain silent. Hiraku once again came to the table with a decent answer, though it wasn't a terribly difficult question. Touma nodded in agreement.

"Correct. The recon team isn't doing it's job right if the enemy knows they were ever there. Worst case scenario, if the enemy is aware of the recon and the recon team doesn't know it, they could offer up false information to fool the recon team. However, in the case that the team is discovered, they need to be fast in order to escape, or the information they've gathered means nothing,"</COLOR><i></i> Touma said, going in to slightly more detail. A hand raised from a new face this time, causing Touma to pause and nod in his direction to hear what he had to say.

"And you want the team to be small, because the bigger it is, the more opportunities for someone to get caught," the trainee said somewhat nervously, taking the queue to give answering a shot from his fellow trainees. Touma nodded. "Right. Now ANBU are specialists at not getting caught, which is why they are good at reconnaissance generally. We have techniques specifically built to keep us from being detected. Once such useful technique is known as Active Camo. Some of you may have learned it, others may be working on it. I'll demonstrate," Touma said, standing up straight and placing his hands together to form the first seal. A series of seals followed much more slowly than normal as to allow the students to see each. As the last handseal was performed Touma's clothing began to take on the color of the wall behind him. In an instant, he was hardly visible to the trainees sitting in the classroom. After a few moments he let the cloak deactivate.

<COLOR color="#8000BF">"Well then, how about we do an exercise? Down the hallway, in room 402, there is another class being held. I want some information gathered, let's say... how many males and females are in the room? Naturally, they cannot know you are gathering this information or the task is failed. You can use whatever means you deem appropriate as long as nobody is hurt by it of course. Light property damage would be allowed, I suppose. Who's up to it?"<i></i> Touma said, taking a glance around the room. "Actually, you've done well so far this class Kurosawa-kun, how about you give it a shot? Of course, if you can't figure out a way you can just come back,"<i></i> Touma would suggest. Given that he was willing to answer questions, perhaps he would also be willing to really try for the exercise.

OoC: The hallway is pretty plain. The floor is tile, nothing of interest. The ceiling is lined with fluorescent lights, a few of them flickering, as well as air conditioning vents. Steel doors line the hall numbered from 400 onward. 404 is just like every other door. There are no windows, just a shut soundproof steel door.

Once again Hiraku's answer was accepted and expanded on by the teacher. There was also another student add his answer, obviously choosing to wait until someone else had taken the daunting task of being first. Hiraku winced as he accidentally dragged his right hand across his desk before remembering it was still tender.

The next segment of the lesson saw the teacher give an impressive demonstration of a technique which seemed to be an essential tool for remaining undetected. Hiraku watched carefully as the class were shown the handseals slowly and clearly, moments later he had to stop his mouth from dropping as the teacher disappeared completely. 'Active Camo' Hiraku committed the name to memory. It was peculiar, the nature of the technique was indicative of Genjutsu but Hiraku had a certain knack with Genjutsu and he could tell this was something different, it just didn't feel right.

It seemed like by being first to answer, Hiraku had unwittingly volunteered himself for the first exercise of the day, luckily for him it actually sounded like it would be quite fun. He walked out of the classroom into the hallway, quickly checking for his target room and surveying the surrounding area.

"So Mr Shinobi, what're you thinking." Airi may have been better at dealing with life situations, but she knew when it came down to things like this Hiraku was the one with the fundimental training and experience.

"I could use the vents," He said quietly as he pointed up to the metal constructions which clung to the ceiling, "But I'm worried they might be noisy, if I'm not dead silent it could echo around the whole complex."

"What about if I go through and do the count for you, no risk of me making any noise." Airi suggested.

Hiraku paused for a moment, weighing up the options, "I think it would be better if I could be the one to see it, that way we should be able to get some evidence to back up our findings. It's a bit more risky but I think it's worth it." In truth that was only half the reason he wanted to do this himself, he knew he could rely on his sister but at the same time he knew it would be unwise to be completely dependent on her for things like this, he needed to be able to do it for himself.

Transformation, one of the most fundamental jutsu there was. A quick series of seals saw Hiraku transformed into a spitting image of his teacher. Taking a moment to shake the pain out of his right hand, Hiraku Moved over to the door and knocked three times before taking a deep breath and entering the room.

"Sorry to disturb you." Hiraku bowed apologetically towards who he presumed was the teacher, "I seem to have a missing student, Kurosawa Hiraku, I was wondering if you'd seen him." Hiraku gave a brief description of himself as he recorded an image of the room with his Snapshot jutsu.

Providing everything went to plan and the teacher simply said he didn't know where the missing student was, Hiraku would apologise again before leaving the room and returning to his own class to share the findings with his teacher.

As he opened the door, Hiraku found that the class room remarkably similar to the one he had come from. The room itself was a clone, only the people within differed. There was a similar number of trainees occupying the room with a middle-aged woman at the head who briefly paused her writing on the chalk board to turn to look at Hiraku Touma. She listened to Hiraku's question as Hiraku covertly took a snapshot of the class and then shook her head. "No, I'm afraid not Shuusei-san. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for him and reprimand him for missing your class if I see him," she responded, giving an assuring nod before Hiraku turned to leave. A moment before he was about to close the door, she called for him.

"Shuusei-san, I was just explaining the Black Blockade jutsu to my trainees and the way that multiple ANBU using it at once can strengthen the barrier, would you mind aiding me in a demonstration?" she asked, pausing for a response- just enough time for Hiraku to sweat. "Oh, no, what am I saying. You have your own class to get back to, my apologies. Another time. Good day Shuusei-san," she said, dismissing Hiraku who had luckily caught a break. The classroom and instructor were none the wiser. Moments later he was back in his class, himself again. As he entered, he would notice a small object resembling a glass eye pass by him from behind and float to Touma who dispelled it. The Crystal Eye jutsu had allowed Touma to watch Hiraku's trial in its entirety.

"So, Kurosawa-kun, how many males and females were there?"<i></i> Touma asked, allowing Hiraku time to review his snapshot and report the answer. "Well done. For the class's benefit, why don't you explain how you obtained your information? Did you run into any unexpected hiccups that might have undone your plan? Anything you might do differently?"<i></i> Touma asked, though he had himself witnessed everything that had happened.

Heart still pounding, Hiraku released his transformation just before walking back into the classroom. Even in training where there was no real repercussions for failure, a near miss like that was still nerve racking.

"You look like you've seen a ghost."

One of Airi's less side splitting jokes which over the years was starting to wear thin. Hiraku threw a sideways glance towards her only to find himself jumping half way across the room in fright as a floating eye passed close over his shoulder. Hiraku could feel his face getting hot as he cottoned on to a few smirks dotted around the class. Airi was less subtle, she franticly wiped tears from her eyes as she cackled relentlessly.

"So, Kurosawa-kun, how many males and females were there?"

Hiraku tore his attention away from the gaze of his colleagues and reported his answer to the teacher, shortly afterwards he was asked to explain exactly what he did to get the information. Hiraku briefly outlined the techniques he used and his thought process behind them, he included the dismissal of using the air vents.

Even now he was back in the safety of his own classroom, Hiraku still felt slightly sick when he started talking about the close call, "Well there was one moment I thought I might be in trouble, the other teacher tried to get me to demonstrate a jutsu to her class, one that I've never even heard of. Luckily she changed her mind before she got suspicious." Hiraku moved on to the next part of the question, "I think next time I'd prefer to do a bit more research on the person I was impersonating, that way I might have enough information to talk my way out of any sticky situations like that."

By this time Hiraku was starting to feel fairly self-conscious with all the eyes of the class on him, Airi had already floated off towards their seats so Hiraku decided to awkwardly follow. He felt his class was going well so far, his short time in the ANBU felt right so far, he couldn't wait to see what the future held.

Touma listened as Hiraku went over his experience with recon, though the explanation was mostly for the sake of the class. Still, the way he had gone about collecting the information was not what he had expected. True, he had almost run into an unexpected issue, but this was his time as a trainee and he had room for mistakes. He would just need to learn from them and correct them for the future. The transformation jutsu was often used for exactly the kind of thing Hiraku had just experienced.

"If you know a lot about the subject of your impersonation, Transformation can be a very useful tool for recon. Unfortunately, in the field, the one you need to impersonate might not even be someone you know. It's a risk you may have to take... If you can go without speaking to anybody, that is different, but if you're forced into a conversation the enemy may notice something off about your impersonation. Depending on how much they know about the Transformation jutsu, it may still be salvageable but is a best avoided situation. At any rate, this will do for an introduction to recon,"<i></i> Touma said, standing up and seemingly about to release the class.

"Now, before I let you all leave for now, a bonus bit of information for you: The jutsu Kurosawa-kun was asked to perform was Black Blockade, another ANBU jutsu. This jutsu allows the ANBU to summon a barrier which prevents others from entering to leaving. Multiple ANBU can cast the jutsu in conjunction to strengthen the barrier. This can be very useful for stopping a target they may wish to flee..... but that is a topic for another class. You're free to go, unless anybody has any questions they'd like to stay behind and ask,"<i></i> Touma continued before finally dismissing the class. Most of the trainees immediately stood and made to leave while Touma remained at the front of the class in case any had additional questions for him.

[OoC: Class is over, you're free to prolong the RP if you so desire but otherwise you can topic leave if you want.]

Out of the spotlight of his peers, Hiraku sat and listened to the teachers closing remarks. He was quite amazed with how much left there was to learn even with the years he'd spent training and doing lower level missions. His first class as a prospective ANBU had made it blatantly obvious, his journey was only just beginning.

"You're growing up quickly baby brother." Airi said as the teacher finished up and dismissed the class.

The pair shared a quick smile. As he stood up, Hiraku found himself towards the back of the flood of students pouring out of the classroom, he made sure to stop and thank his teacher before leaving himself and heading home.

[Topic Left: Thanks for the class, it was good fun]
