Kamaru walked onto the proving grounds as the group of other teachers had already assembled. Partially to get to know some of the instructors and see if he needed to adapt his teaching style, the other part was to assess how they took to new teachers. Regardless of if there was a pecking order this was the job currently so he went up and introduced himself. Small talk was typical of the situation Kamaru thought, where he was from, if he had teaching experience, how he taught. The conversation was pleasant in a way but in truth Kamaru hated talking for the sake of talking at times if it didn’t serve a real purpose. Unlatching the black jitte from somewhere under his jacket he handed over a few copies of his course material and asked when they could get started. Some of the teachers seemed to share glances at one another after looking at the weapon.
Most went to divvying out the copies of the course work; it was pretty cut and dry Kamaru thought, simple overview of Taijutsu, breakdown of various branches of the weapon type, currently explaining the basic pros and cons of using bludgeoning weapons. For the most part it was a standard bland lecture to be used over and over but there wasn’t anything incorrect about what he was talking about. As the instructors that would inspect his form when using techniques pointed at the wooden dummies Kamaru asked about damages since he was using a real weapon. Supposedly the Head Master had ‘made’ these so there were plenty more if need be for the students. Kamaru nodded before gripping his weapon after spinning it over the back of his hand and blurring as he darted towards the first dummy.
For someone using low level techniques for training the instructors saw something along the lines of someone surprising two would be opponents or guards and beating them into submission. Moving between the two targets at close range the attacks were pretty accurate considering. Although it was apparent he was probably new to the use of the weapon and techniques he didn’t seem unfamiliar with attacking people. As the hollow sound of metal hitting wood sounded it quickened from a slow steady knock to a rapid beating as he seemed to dance between the two dummies.
Being instructors they spent a lot of time watching students and could tell mostly what they were thinking. They could tell Kamaru seemed to be self-assessing as he demonstrated the four basic skills constantly. After a bit the group stopped him and discussed his course work and went over his form, for the most part he obviously had down the basics and he’s find his stride so to speak from practice. Taking off his jacket and hanging it on the still standing dummy he looked up when asked if he was taking on the use of bludgeoning weaponry as a secondary skill. He explained he wasn’t taking the use of just one weapon type with a slight smile. He still had several more to master in the tree but for now he had enough down on the basics of it all. Conversation drifted into the course work with suggestions for minor improvements. The thought of using wooden weapons for the students to practice with got mixed comments from the group it seemed. The idea of the students bashing each other with the weapons wasn’t something most agreed with but some understood the basic mechanics of trying to familiarize them.
