Kamaru didn’t know why he hadn’t thought of it sooner but the suggestion coming from his previous training partner had him looking into finding someone experienced in projectile and ranged combat techniques. That and the fact the man he’d usually asked flat out refused since one he didn’t like the idea of not facing your opponent head on in combat at close range. A piece of paper sliding onto his desk in the teacher’s lounge and looking around left Kamaru surprised since he had not seen someone which was pretty impressive even in a school of ninjas. That evening he found himself listening to the chaotic quiet roar of the waves hitting the rocks overlooking the sea when someone showed up next to him asking if he was ready to begin.
Kamaru stared at the young lady and looked around. This had to be a joke. Although she was dressed for battle or training she was probably no older then fourteen and as Kamaru explained as much her cheeks puffed out as she explained she was in her mid-twenties. Was this some sort of prank that the instructors were playing and had transformed or had an academy student out to assist him. He didn’t have any problems with learning from someone younger if they knew the basics he needed to hone but this person was claiming to be around the same age as him. Kamaru blinked again. Looking at her from multiple angles he concluded she was just dramatically short in stature and wrote it off. She blushed slightly muttering if she was bigger in certain areas Kamaru probably wouldn’t be so confused. Slightly confused Kamaru asked what she meant, she dismissed it and started to set up for training. She put a target up for him to hit with a projectile weapon finding her way back to watch. Kamaru inquired into why since it would be difficult because of the wind. She explained that was exactly why they were doing this here. He aimed and came close several times and finally went to go pick up the projectile when he noticed she had been following him the whole time.
It was embarrassing when she examined one stating she could tell he had probably had them for some time and asked why he was so bad at throwing them, they were well maintained and in good condition for the most part they looked brand new. In truth he explained he hasn’t practiced really with them. With a nod she said that should change starting now and began going over wind and environmental indicators to keep in mind, everything from angles and flow of water to change the trajectory or not of a shot to ricocheting a shot off stone as a certain angle to bank or arc a shot where you wanted it to be. Kamaru simply listened as he wiped his face with the mist of the sea that had been hitting the rocks for the last few hours. He always figured if he threw strong enough the conditions didn’t matter but after stating so he got the young female teaching assistant shaking her head furiously. Supposedly it was the opposite effect, she deduced he wasn’t bad just stupid. Blinking he reminded her he was technically her boss which only got a shrug out of her and the comment if he had worked in the field before it was surprised he wasn’t thinking of this up on his own. In truth Kamaru felt he had himself to blame for that plus the fact he hadn’t really come since he hadn’t used them much for anything really so she was pretty spot on as to why he probably hadn’t realized this sooner.
Going over the effects of wind into, with, through and the direction of the conditions that needed to be taken into account he eventually realized and rewrote his course material as the sun was setting most of the session had been practical use but for the most part he had down the basics and now just needed to figure out how to express that and teach it. Fortunately his teacher had already marked up her own comments in several areas, they didn’t explain what to write but spoke to areas that didn’t work and asked simply questions such as what he was trying to convey on the subject when the ideas seemed jumbled. Stretching he turned to thank the young lady but as he looked around to find her she wasn’t around it seemed disappearing into the surrounds possibly when he wasn’t looking. Kamaru opted to just yell out thanks over the crashing of the waves. He heard her say you welcome before he opted to just leave instead of looking for her in hiding, maybe it just had been carried on the wind.
