Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The wind passed through the empty street completely unhindered. It was just one of those days when everyone was either busy or somewhere else, not bothering to visit the Sky Fall. A single door opened and one single woman came out. She looked along the empty street and let a prolonged sigh out. Maybe her business wasn't doing that good or boredom had started slowly seeping in through the cracks. Who knew... The young woman turned the OPEN sign on her door over and closed the door.

Uka sighed yet again as she turned the key, locking the door behind herself. It was pretty clear that she wasn’t going to sell anything today, therefore maybe she could just go do some of her other work. The medic walked over behind the counter and opened the door there.
The room was full of all sorts of gardening equipment raging from different sizes of pots to small shovels, but there were a few things that seemed out of place, namely a coat hanger with a white laboratory coat on it and a set of stairs behind it. Those stair lead down to the basement of the building, which surprisingly has a set of very heavy-looking metal doors, stopping anyone from getting in or out. It was more or less a safety precaution because of the type of work that went on in there.

As much as Uka enjoyed working with her poisons and their antidotes she realized the dangers they posed if they escaped somehow or someone got their hands on them, so some pre-emptive measures had to be taken, such as these doors. She carefully took her cloak off and hanged it on the opposite site of the lab coat, taking extra precaution for them not to touch. It wasn't as if there was anything on it, but rather a bit of OCD, which bugged her. Her brown gloves quickly followed it and finally the young medic put the white coat on, carefully buttoning it up. She took a set of clear glasses out of one of the pockets and put them on before heading down the stairs. At the bottom there was only two things – the doors and a small table with a box of latex gloves.

The room behind the doors was quite different from her small flower shop upstairs or even her storage closet. Sure there were quite a few flowers lining the walls on one side, but they were very unsafe to sell as they all had some poisonous aspect to them, even though none actually released toxins into the air. It was a matter of personal preference since Uka hated having to deal with them in a place such as her basement. On the opposite side there was a table with about six cages with white mice in them. In the bottom left corner of the room there was a round metal hatch, which lead to a secondary basement, where the florist kept different types of fungi for medical uses. In the opposite corner there was a rather large metal cabinet, filled with all sorts of glass bottles, whether they be filled or not, and all sorts of other large or small apparatus. Right next to it there was a small desk with a rather large lamp on it. However there was one thing that seemed completely out of place – a bag of charcoal in the middle of the room.

Uka slowly walked over to the cages and made sure that all the mice had food and water. She really hated having to keep them locked up like that, but they were beyond necessary for her work. As much as she hated it they were her only way to test whether or not her work was in fact fruitful or not, that is without counting herself. However she did need to consider saving up for a newer house as her current one couldn’t really provide room for everything that she needed. Sure her small white friends could help her test whether or not a toxic worked, but right now the only real way or producing the antivenom/antiserums was using herself. It was a very simple thing to do, considering how many times she had done it, but it was always just as risky as the first time. If she could get a few sheep or cows it would make her work just so much easier than it was, but on the bright side she has gained quite the immunity due to it all.

As much as having those animals to help she still had to consider the possibility of serum sickness, which wasn’t exactly something that would help during a mission. It would completely hinder the activity of the shinobi experiencing it and for now Uka was nowhere near finding a way to prevent it, however there was already a way to stop it. As much as she hated using herself as a test dummy for all her work it was the only real way she had from making sure the antiserums she made were in fact safe for use during such an environment. If it was to be used under normal medical conditions in a hospital or at home then an animal produced antiserum would work fine as any reaction wouldn’t really cause any permanent harm.

As soon as the mice were fed most of the house keeping work was done and it was time to get to the real topic of her day. Her eyes dropped to the bag of charcoal in the middle of the room, but she left it there for now. It was something her mother had taught her a while ago, but much to her regret Uka didn’t actually have the ability to produce what she needed from that charcoal. If properly treated it worked quite well for some ingested poisons, but to make it she needed very strong fire techniques, which her father specialised in, but she herself had no talent at. This meant she had to put a request up for some help later on. That however wasn’t what she had to do right now.

A while ago she had started working on a new serum, which involved injecting herself with small quantities of the poison over a few days, allowing for her body to create defences against the toxin, which could be used to help others. This specific serum wasn’t something she was going use on a daily basis, considering the actual poison was very hard to make and very few people actually even know of its existence, but one could never be too prepared. She quickly walked over to the cabinet and unlocked the small lock which was holding its doors closed. The medic took out a cannula, an empty blood pack and some cotton balls, they weren’t the best however she had ran out from everything else. ’I need to stock up again later’ She thought as she put all the supplies on the desk and locked the cabinet up once again. Uka pulled the chair out from underneath the desk and sat down. She quickly rolled her sleeve up and prepared the cannula, carefully finding a vein she could use in the antecubital space. A slight chuckle escaped her when she finally found a usable one and secured the cannula onto her arm.

Her line of experimentation involved her injecting herself with different sorts of toxins and then using her own blood to create the antiserums, but to someone who didn’t know what she did it would look as if she was a drug addict. It was also one of the main reasons she only worse long-sleeved shirts, but hey it was just a risk of her profession. The medic then removed the cap on the cannula and attached the empty blood bag to the opening. Even if this was the easiest part of her work she hated it the most. The feeling of lightheadedness wasn’t something the young woman enjoyed at all, but there wasn’t really any other way to do her job. It was just a matter of taking enough blood to prepare an antiserum, but not enough to put herself at risk. A rather careful balance that took so many attempts to master.

This was the fastest part of the procedure and soon it was all over. Uka carefully sealed the blood bag and then removed the cannula, pressing one of the cotton balls onto the small hole left behind on her arm. These were the moments she dreaded most. Those few minutes where she could do nothing but just sit there and wait. They were not so painful because of what they were, but rather because of the memories they brought up, memories of times she didn’t want to ever have to remember. Even though it had been so long the pain in the scar on her left breast always came back to remind her it still existed, force her to remember it and how she had got it. A sigh escaped her lips yet again as tried to move her thoughts in a different direction as fruitless as that always turned out to be.

Soon she was able to walk once more and she quickly jumped to her feet. It was now a matter of preparing the actual serum, but first some rest was needed. Uka opened the bottom part of the metal cabinet and carefully placed the bag onto one of the hooks there. It was a special freezer designed to store blood and that is precisely why she could afford to stop here for now. The medic then carefully disposed of all the supplies she had used and put the ones she hadn’t back into the cabinet. All that was left now was to go and get a nice warm hot chocolate until it was time to get back to work…

Her head was still pounding ever so slightly, but compared to what it had been not too long ago she was perfectly fine. There was also no time to really waste anymore. The fresher it was the better it would be in the end.

Uka carefully put the lab coat back on and headed down the stairs yet again. She had already wasted more than enough time and it was time to get to work. The solid doors opened and closed with a dull creaking sound. And there it stood the ever so familiar room, the site of her lifes’ work. It was strange sometimes, especially when she thought about it like that. Everything she had ever done worth note had happened within the constraints of these four walls, these two solid doors. A light chuckle escaped her lips as they curled up into a slight smile. ’Well then. Time for the fun part’

The medic took a small key out of her pocket and unlocked the lock, which held her metal cabinet closed to took out a rather bulky-looking centrifuge, placing it on the desk. A bunch of boiling tubes with caps quickly followed and were carefully laid out. She then took out the blood sample from earlier and took a deep breath. It was a matter of carefully pouring pretty much the same amount into each boiling tube, sealing them and then placing them into the centrifuge. ‘’Click’’ The lid of the machine locked into place and the process began. It would take some time so that gave her an opportunity to prepare everything else she needed.

A large boiling tube rack, a few pieces of glassware such as beakers and flasks along with a couple of glass rods quickly took up all the remaining space on the small desk. She really needed to invest in another table or two soon, but funds were a bit low as is, so that would have to wait for now. A sigh escaped the woman, but it was cut short as the centrifuge let out a muffled beep to announce it was done. Uka opened it carefully and took one of the boiling tubes to the level of her eyes. The sample had separated quite nicely, making all the three layers visible. She quickly clicked a couple of buttons, setting the centrifuge into a slower rotation in order to keep all her work from being wasted. It was a matter of finishing the separation before the sample was unusable. The medic began carefully pouring out the top layer of liquid from the boiling tube into one of the many beakers littering the desk, doing the same for all layers and tubes. In the end she was left with three half-filled beakers with plasma, red blood cells and white blood cells. She had to dispose of the latter two at a later point, but there was still a little bit more to do with the former. Sure it was semi-ready, but there was still more to be done.

Uka grabbed a set of flasks in her left hand and the plasma beaker in her left hand, walking over to the table next to the animal cages. On that table was one of the strangest-looking glassware and metal contraptions, but if it had to be described it worked a little bit like a distillery yet so much differently. It had only one function – further purifying the plasma into the final product. This was by far the hardest and longest part of the process, but if everything went well. The young woman put the plasma beaker to the side for now as she carefully set up all the flasks she carried over in their appropriate positions. While she couldn’t use absolutely all of the plasma for an antiserum there were a few more uses she had for the rest of the components, but that was a thing for a later time. Uka then carefully poured the plasma into the glass funnel at the top of the contraption before pulling up a chair and observing the process in order to make sure nothing went wrong.

It was boring to watch this, but it was by far the most risky step. If one little bit went wrong then all of her previous work would go to waste. No matter if that were the case she could just redo it. Uka leaned back in her chair and waited… Soon it would be time to test it on one of her little white prisoners to her right. She really hated having to test her work on the mice, but there was no other way other than herself. There was only one issue with using herself though – she already had an immunity to the poison, which would in a sense reduce its effectiveness quite a bit. This wouldn’t really give her accurate results and could end up being fatal if it doesn’t in fact work.

Let the waiting game begin!

[Continued from my Kin app]

“If only dad had found us sooner…” Uka punched the mirror yet again, sending a sharp pain up to her wrist. It seemed like a rather large shard of glass had managed to bury itself deep within her hand. The medic pulled back her hand and just stared at it. Tears slowly fell and mixed with her blood as her eyes just turned blank. Why did this have to happen every time. There was nothing she could have done about any of it. It wasn’t something she wished for, something she could ever wish on anyone. The monstrosities that man had done would never really haunt him in the grave, but her father was just paying for it all. After all nobody would believe the old drunkard over the well-known shaman. At least he had gotten revenge before being taken to jail.

A long sigh escaped her lips as she carefully began pulling the glass out of her hand. More and more blood was pouring out of her wound, but it wasn’t enough to kill her. It was far easier for her to recover from it and also it was the reason why she always wore gloves. This was something she had been able to do since that fateful week. In the end there had been no books in the library to tell her what exactly it was, but from what Uka could tell her touch was draining the life of anything she came in contact with. What it really was she really didn’t know, but one thing was for sure now – she was going to be able to. Now that she was a Sennin there were many secret files available to her that weren’t up until that point. It was just a matter of looking through them. However there was one little thing to be done before that. She was going to do something good for everyone and even more so herself and that is to stop trying to be who she wasn’t.

This was something Uka should have done a long time ago. She would never forget the experiments conducted on herself, Yume and Aki, but it was something that had to be left behind. She, no they had to become stronger together. After all they were always with her now. Her gaze dropped to one of the larger shards of glass, staring into her brown-coloured eye. ’Aki’ Her mind reminded her. Oh how many times had she seen it and been reminded of her old friend. She had already lost count, but it was time to look forward.

The newly-appointed sennin opened the cabinet behind the now broken mirror and took out two things – a knife and a box of hair dye. This wasn’t just a spur of the moment thing, no it was something she had been considering for a long time, but now she had been pushed over the edge. It was high time she changed for the better not only for herself but the people who now relied upon her. ”I’m sorry, but I need to move on.” Her tears wouldn’t stop, but her mind was already made up. She gripped the knife in her left hand and in her right she pulled her hair into a bundle and quickly cut it off around mid-back length.

It was a small thing to do, but to her it meant the world. The last time she had cut her raid was after that day. It had remained that way as a memory to Yume, but no more! It was time to be herself. Now it was time for the even harder part….

***

The sun shone brightly through the large hole in the ceiling of the cliff above and many people rushed off in their own directions. Many with the exception of one – a woman who stood in the middle of the street, staring up at the sky. She was dressed in a black suit with black gloves. Her green eyes shone brightly as the sun hit them and her blonde ponytail followed every gentle movement of the wind. How long had it been since she had been herself? Close to ten years now? No. It was about damn time! Uka couldn’t help but grin slightly.
