Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Key Facts
  • Black Fever (BF), formerly known as black-blood fever, is a severe, often fatal illness.
  • The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission.
  • The average BF case fatality rate is around 50%. Case fatality rates have varied from 25% to 90% in past outbreaks.
  • The first BF outbreaks occurred in remote villages in coastal wind county, closer to large bodies of water and potential animal vectors, but the most recent outbreak have made their way into Sunagakure since the malestrom has subsided.
  • Community engagement is key to successfully controlling outbreaks. Good outbreak control relies on applying a package of interventions, namely case management, surveillance and contact tracing, a good laboratory service, safe burials and social mobilization.
  • Early supportive care with re-hydration, symptomatic treatment improves survival. There is as yet no licensed treatment proven to neutralize the virus but a range of blood, immunological and drug therapies are under development.
  • There are currently no licensed Black Fever vaccines.
Key Facts
Background

The BF virus causes an acute, serious illness which is often fatal if untreated. Black Fever first appeared twenty years ago in 2 simultaneous outbreaks. Both of these coastal cities' populations were utterly decimated in the outbreak. A latter case occurred near a occurred in a reservoir in the desert that many travelers used to hydrate their animals on long journies and it was from there that this disease spread throughout the country.

The current outbreak in Sunagakure, (first cases notified three months ago), is the largest and most complex Black Fever outbreak since the BF virus was first discovered. There have been more cases and deaths in this outbreak than all others combined. We fear that it may soon spread between countries external to Wind Country if it remains unchecked.

The most severely affected groups are the nomadic tribes in Wind Country, they have very weak health systems, lack human and infrastructural resources, and have only recently emerged from long periods of conflict and instability.
Background
Transmission

It is thought that mosquitoes are natural Black Fever virus hosts. BF was introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals such as dune hares, sandrunners, etc. found ill or dead or in the desert.

Black Fever then spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids.

Health-care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed BF. This has occurred through close contact with patients when infection control precautions are not strictly practiced.

Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of BF.

People remain infectious as long as their blood contains the virus.
Transmission
Symptoms

The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms is 2 to 21 days. Humans are not infectious until they develop symptoms. First symptoms are the sudden onset of fever fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, symptoms of impaired kidney and liver function, but the most notable symptom is the hemorrhagic bleeding that usually takes the victim's life. The blood appears to be a black, viscous ooze that is near incapable of clotting, both internal and external bleeding (e.g. oozing from the gums, blood in the stools) causes hypovolemic shock and eventually death in many cases. Laboratory findings include low white blood cell and platelet counts and elevated liver enzymes but taking blood from an afflicted patient is dangerous due to their poor clotting.
Symptoms
Diagnosis

It can be difficult to distinguish BF from other infectious diseases. Confirmation that symptoms are caused by a Black Fever virus infection are made using the following investigations:

  • Antibody-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • Antigen-capture detection tests
  • Serum neutralization test
  • Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay
  • Electron microscopy
  • Virus isolation by cell culture.
  • Visualization of Black blood (seen in late or terminal BF)

Sadly, these tests are costly and time-consuming. Often the afflicted dies before test results are obtained so most medics treat all cases showing a similar symptoms as if they are BF

Samples from patients are an extreme bio-hazard risk; laboratory testing on non-inactivated samples should be conducted under maximum biological containment conditions.
Diagnosis
Treatment

Supportive care-rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids- and treatment of specific symptoms, improves survival. There is as yet no proven treatment available for Black Fever. However, a range of potential treatments including blood products, immune therapies and drug therapies are currently being evaluated. No licensed vaccines are available yet.

[legend="Mission: Isolation of the Black Fever"]An outbreak of Black Fever has sprung up in [Sora, Soons Haven or Sunagakure -- pick one]. We need you to isolate those affected with this virus from the general population by any means necessary. Please remember the risks of transmission and consider your own safety during this mission as well.

  • Rank: Variable

Details: Black Fever is wrecking havoc throughout the badlands. The Diamond Maelstrom previously limited the spread of this virulent disease but now that travel is relatively safe in comparison people have started to travel throughout the countryside and take with them this terrible virus. Various medical shinobis have been working tirelessly to save the victims, prevent the spread and of course find a cure.
[/legend]

[legend="Mission: Treatment of the Afflicted"]This disease is spreading steadily and it has taken a number of lives. It is our hope that with continued research and development that a cure will one day be found. Until then we need to preserve life and function the best we can. Please remember that transmission in the later stages when bodily fluids may escape freely that you are at risk so please take precautions.

  • Rank: Variable

Details: Black Fever is spreading relative unchecked despite our efforts to quarantine and isolate. Large numbers of afflicted patients can be found housed together, medical care has been stretched to its limit so please do what you can.
[/legend]

[legend="Mission: Research and Development"]Medics have been tirelessly researching a cure. The problem is, we have no idea where this disease truly came from as it seemingly came out of nowhere. We have our assumptions, such as initial vector transmission and zoonosis likely started with a creature that shared human biology in some way but beyond this we have no idea. For all we know our assumptions might be wrong. But that is not all, not only are we interested in learning more about how this disease came to be but also how to eradicate it.

  • Rank: Medic or Medical Captain only. This can be done as a group mission but the IC mission lead must be a Medic or a Medic Captain.

Details: Black Fever has spread throughout Wind Country in small 'hot spots.' Some of the affected have been quarantined, their bodies preserved in some cases by the patient or the family's request and in a few cases we have willing and unwilling test subjects. The ethics in this particular situation may burden your conscience but we will do what we must to preserve life.

Note: If you come up with a theory, mention it when you request your rewards for successfully researching. You need not find a cure or determine something new, but if you do we would like to let you know if your hypothesis is right. This will become a part of a future mini event in all likelihood.

This is Considered to be a Self-Modded Solo Mission
Important: Self-modded missions may be done twice in a week, however the second mission done yields half normal rewards. Players may also perform one mission with 2x the word count in order to gain the rewards of having done two missions. This still only yields half rewards for the second mission.

What Rank of Self-Modded Solo Missions can I perform?
  • A user may only perform a mission of their current OOC Rank or lower. This mission is considered to match the Rank of the Medic or MiT who performs the mission.

What are the rewards for Solo Missions?
  • This depends on the Rank your character is OC'ly. But the rewards are as follows:
    • D-Rank: 2,000 Yen
    • C-Rank: 2,500 Yen
    • B-Rank: 3,000 Yen
    • A-Rank: 4,000 Yen
    • S-Rank: 5,000 Yen

What is the required word count for this mission?
  • The word count is dependent on the rank of the mission you undergo. The word count minimums are as follows:
    • E-Rank: 250 Words
    • D-Rank: 300 Words
    • C-Rank: 350 Words
    • B-Rank: 400 Words
    • A-Rank: 450 Words
    • S-Rank: 500 Words

Someone else has already completed this entry, what now?
  • This entry is considered to be a repetitive entry, meaning that when this mission is completed, it will happen again someplace else. That is the problem with diseases and people catching them! So it is POK for multiple players to do this mission separately.

Can this be a group mission?
  • The answer is YES. Just look-up and follow all group mission rules, this can be a modded or a non-modded mission. As a group (modded or otherwise) mission, this can be used to count towards your Captain status.

I have completed my mission, what now?
  • Drop you mission off in character (IC) HERE.

I am not from Sunagakure but I am visiting and I would like to perform a solo mission listed, is that OK?
  • YES! While you are always welcome to join our community (and we do encourage it), leaving people out of the fun goes against the out of character spirit of this community. You can serve as a mercenary or a helpful foreigner and complete these missions as well, just keep it in character and drop your mission off at the office as listed above but re-linked HERE. Just be sure that you have gotten permission from your primary community.
