This question has come up, so we're addressing it here and now.
If you are in a branch, and learn jutsu specific to that branch, then leave that branch, you do not lose those jutsu. You can master them, use them, they count as being your's. You cannot learn NEW jutsu from that branch, however.

For a while now, we've had new branch abilities for each branch and the Shinobi 101 abilities.
There's been confusion on how to utilize these abilities.
You get your branch ability for free. It does not take up a slot.
You must RP for your Shinobi 101 ability. It does not take up a slot.
You are allowed to have ONE Shinobi 101 ability.
What people were confused on is simple.
You CAN have both free abilities at the same time.
Example: A mednin can have Combat Medic not taking up a slot AND Shinobi 101 Tai not taking up a slot.
