Having recently graduated from the academy and becoming Genin, Mori has been looking for an opportunity to prove himself to his superiors so as to gain notice from the Anbu Corps. As Mori perused the available missions he noticed that a kennel in the Levels District had recently misplaced a dozen of their cats due to some faulty equipment they had just purchased. Mori was familiar with the Levels because of his time on the streets as a child and decided that he probably knew some of the hiding places that these wayward cats had taken shelter. After signing off with the proper authorities Mori took off in the direction of the Levels feeling confident in his ability to locate the cats in a reasonable time and make it home for dinner.
After arriving at his intended destination, a middle class restaurant known for its particularly good seafood, Mori was rewarded by finding three large orange tabby cats. He could tell they belonged to the kennel because of the distinctive red ribbon and green charm around their necks that adorned the neck of all the animals of that particular kennel. After a quick moment of satisfaction in finding a decent amount of his intended targets so quickly, Mori quickly rifled through the trash behind the restaurant to find an appropriate box to hold his quarry. He took the box and slowly crept up on the unsuspecting cats and swiftly tipped the box over top of them as they were distracted by a piece of discarded fish. The cats made a flurry of commotion as they were caught but Mori was strong enough to hold the box down as they resisted. After a moment the cats settled down and Mori transferred them into the small portable cages the kennel had provided to return the cats in.
Feeling particularly successful, Mori moved on to his next destination. As he walked up to the public wash house, he was happy to note the presence of a group of six small kittens all wearing the appropriate kennel distinctive collars. Some of the kittens were sunbathing on the stones while some played with the hanging towels. After seeking permission from the women working the laundry, Mori blocked off the entire laundry section so the kittens couldn't escape and proceeded to chase them down one by one and place them in their cages. By the time this task was completed, Mori had acquired several new thin cuts on his hands as a result of some of the more stubborn and hard to catch kittens. Mori now had more cats than he could handle so he acquired the use of a wheelbarrow type cart and used that to take his first set of cats back to their home at the kennel. After much thanks from the kennel owners for returning so many of their cats so quickly, Mori assured them that he would return with the rest before the end of the day and set off to his next destination.
On the way Mori was happy to note that he was already three quarters of the way done with his mission and looked forward to its completion so he could go home and eat some ramen. He then arrived at one of the lower end yarn shops in the district and asked the owner if there had been stray cats causing any trouble for him or the other yarn shops in the area. The owner ranted on and on about how stray cats were always a problem in the yarn business and how responsible citizens should pay better attention to their cats and that the city should limit the amount of their breeding. Having dealt with this particular shop owner before as a child, Mori waited patiently for the man to finish and was rewarded with information about a couple of cats causing trouble at a yarn shop a couple streets down the road. Mori thanked the owner for the information and proceeded to the shop down the road.
When he arrived, Mori checked out the alley behind the yarn shop. He assumed that the owners had chased the cats out of the store during business hours and as he looked around the alley there was a young girl holding a bowl of milk. He slowly approached the girl and asked her "Hello young miss. I'm looking for some cats to return to a kennel. Have you seen any around here?" She seemed hesitant to reply and stared at the ground in lieu of responding. Mori walked closer to her and said "Don't worry. This is a very nice kennel and they take very good care of the pets in their charge." Mori gave the troubled girl a reassuring smile and she seemed to start to accept his words and smiled back a little as well. She responded "Well as long as they're well taken care of, I can show you where I've been feeding a couple of strays" "Thank you" Mori responded. After a short walk down the alley, the young girl led Mori to a couple of boxes that held the three remaining cats that Mori was tasked with returning. It looked as if the girl had made a home for the cats there. Each box had its own small blanket and a tray to hold milk that the young girl filled with the bowl that she held. Mori could tell the young girl was holding back tears at the thought of losing her three new found friends but Mori comforted her saying "You have done a good job taking care of these cats. I'll make sure to let the owners of the kennel know that you have an affinity for taking care of animals and perhaps you'll be able to volunteer there and see your friends again" The young girl stared questioningly at Mori and asked "Do you think that could happen?" "I do" Mori responded. The young girl broke into a smile and hugged Mori saying "Thank you so much sir." After acquiring the young girl's help putting the last three cats into their cages, Mori made his final trip to the kennel . At the kennel Mori dropped off the last of the cats and spoke to the owners about the young girl and her natural ability to take care of animals. They seemed to be excited by the possibility of getting some good help. After saying his farewells, Mori headed back home to get some food and soak in the tub to try and heal some of the scratches he had acquired that day.
