"Noooo, please don't run away anymore Mr. Kitty! I'm trying to help you!" The voice of the softspoken genin called out to her fluffy target; a small kitten that had retreated up a tall tree, refusing to return to the ground below. "Your owner misses you...You can't stay up there forever, right?" She called out, reaching her arm towards one of the lower branches.
Tiny, simplistic tasks such as these made up the bulk of a genin's missions. Retrieving a cat that got stuck in a tree? Child's play.
And so, the girl began her ascent to claim the furry target of her mission. The tree was surprisingly tall for one being in a village of stone; one would have a good view of the surrounding area from the top. Perhaps that was why it was sourrounded by a small fence to keep others away, as if it was a monument of sorts. Not that a cat would care much for a fence...
Before long, the dark haired child reached the feline's level, who had now retreated as far as it could towards the end of the branch. The way she saw it, there were two ways she could reach the frighten kitten...
1) Detach her limbs to reach for the kitten
---> 2) Climb across the branch to gradually approach the kitten
The choice was obvious to her; it seemed to be a far better choice to approach the kitten slowly, rather than risk surprising it by extending her limbs passed their seemingly normal limits.
So, the dark haired genin moved away from the relitive stability at the base of the tree, balancing herself across the narrow branch...getting narrower...narrower...even narrower. (Almost there...I should be able to reach out and touch the kitty now...) Her sickly fingers reached out, making a brief moment of contact against the small animal's fur.
But then, suddenly, a cracking noise sounded through the air. It was subtle, dismissible at first; but then was followed a second later by a much louder, ominous sound that made the girl's heart freeze for a moment.
And then, the branch snapped. Completely. Severed from the tree! "Wh-whaa!!!" She reached out, but missed grabbing anything to regain her balance. She fell to the ground below...directly above the fence mentioned earlier, actually.
Speaking of the fence, it seemed alot sharper from the top. She really did have a perfect view to examine it in the all-too-brief moments of falling.
Squatchsshh
She had made a mistake that seemed to have lead to an unfortunate [bad end] to her mission; her clumsiness caused her fall, but few injuries ever proved to be of a critical nature due to the unique physiology of her body. Even a (large) foreign object shishkabobbing her (small) throat.
Unfortunately, for obvious reasons she was unable to witness where the kitten had run off to...Or much of anything, actually; her vision went dark, and her consciousness soon followed. Don't worry; the kitten had safely landed somehow, and was completely unharmed! As for the girl...well, they say a good nap really gets you back on your feet...
