Kamaru had heard things about the place called Wonderland Café, the small amount of free time he had lately had been devoted to personal research or looking into things with the refugees making sure they had no issues acclimating so he didn’t have time to check it out. News of them closing for a few days got people across social ranks all up in arms. As he stood in the café the employees still cleaning up broken glass Kamaru inspected the rather unique form of graffiti.
He had seen people spray paint on walls before there were supposedly several new paintings hanging up around the café. The fact they had been slashed up so you really couldn’t tell what they were made it difficult to appreciate the art. The graffiti or added arc had been placed on the wall in an area that had been a flat stone wall previously. By placed Kamaru figured a better sense would be carved out. It was an older style from what he was told by people involved with the investigation besides him. Staring at it closely it looked good if you didn’t focus on the depiction in the painted carving. The depiction was that of the café with surprising detail to the background, the most horrific deaths in the cave in were explained to be the other artists that had their paintings put up from the art event earlier. Kamaru wasn’t an expert on this kind of art or cave ins, granted this place was in an abandoned mineshaft but someone would know who to talk to for that as well. Kamaru focused on the details and the thought processes he did understand.
”You’re staring at that horrific painting pretty intently… I don’t know if I should be worried about that.” someone commented coming alongside him. Kamaru didn’t really pay him that much mind but simply stared at his cup of coffee his nostrils flaring and tried to drink in the coffee’s smell. Noticing the man added this was the best place in town to get a quiet cup of coffee and relax.
Kamaru seemed fully motivated with the possibility of free coffee for solving the case as a thank you. Free plus coffee…
Kamaru wondered if it would be considered a bribe. Granted saving one of the recent landmarks to the village would probably put him in good graces in some sort of way with the right people.
”Do you know the artist depicted here in the painting? I’m trying to think about what this person would have been thinking plus the mindset of someone like this. Not admiring the work mind you.” Kamaru stated a finger extending and gesturing towards the people being killed.
”I guess that makes sense somewhat. It is an odd form of painting to use since it involves carving. It usually takes several hours to do something decent so although it’s a horrific scene the guy is just really good or he found a way to bring it with him and get it on the wall.” the man stated neutral to the painting it seemed. ”You figure the guy is going after the artists and this is a warning?” he added.
”Possibly…” Kamaru said stepping closer and scratching the side of the art work.
”What are you doing!!!” one of the employees squeeled excitedly getting everyone attention.
Looking at the material on his hand and smelling it his face scrunched up in thought before looking at the employee,
”It’s not booby trapped to cave in the place if that’s what you’re thinking. Also it’s plaster so it can be taken down after the investigation.” Kamaru stated calling someone over. He had the stranger walk through who he recognized in the picture getting killed. Kamaru asked the café owner for a list of all the artist that were involved in the art show that submitted work that painted as well as did sculptures. Although he got an odd look they complied. Once he had the list he compared notes with the listing from the stranger or regular at the café really. Kamaru had one name and asked the man about him. Looking back into the painting the man swore and pointed at something. The smug artist had sculpted himself into the painting laughing in a corner as everyone’s misfortune.
Kamaru asked one of the team working the case with him to look into the structural area for tampering and if needed get an engineering or mining specialist to come down and look around at where one would have to do something for the place to actually cave in. Kamaru took the rest to find a mister Muruyama Kazu.
Muruyama place looked much like the paintings all cut up and in a battered disarray. In the middle of the area of confusion sat a man in tattered rags. Seeing people show up he started to chuckle which turned into a madden series of giggling and laughing. Once finished he addressed the group.
”I assume you recognized my brilliance in my work” he stated.
”Not really Mr Muruyama, we’re here to ask some questions into your involvement with some vandalism.” Kamaru clarified.
”Bullshit, those hacks didn’t know good art and they’re trying to get you to take me in on a technicality” The man stared inhaling deeply stated before a black liquid spewed from his mouth as he spun around becoming obscured in a cloud of black ink.
Kamaru went through the hand seals and barked for those with him to fan out and detain him if he tried to leave as he started walking towards the man. The cloud of black liquid shot out in the form of tendrils bouncing off a gust of wind now visible on Kamaru as he walked closer a slashing force of wind crossing as Kamaru released it into the cloud making his target visibe as he went through hand seals again.
”I’d stand down.” commented as the man circled around him before launching at him. Kamaru noticed his hands and feet had been replaced or rather modified, in bloody vises strangle devices clamped on unable to take them off the man slashed out as Kamaru with blacked talons and claws. As they sliced through the air he could feel them extending the black liquid taking on a more solidified appeared. As the wild man danced around Kamaru it seemed taking attacks from various sides Kamaru just watched and waited constantly blocking an attacks coming as him. The man was fast at first, blinding even to Kamaru’s eyes at time. Still Kamaru waited keeping his actions to a minimum. Eventually the man’s actions slowed and stopped as he gagged for air. Kamaru performed hand seals a visage of himself gliding over to the man who vain tried to attack it passing out.
Kamaru looked at the rest with him. ”I don’t know how many days he’s been like this but I’m not touching him.” he explained before getting his clone to do his dirty work with the filthy man. He’d be brought in for question and possibly turned over to the ANBU and/or Guardians. It was the abuse of shinobi like powers so that fell under their jurisdiction he figured.
