As if this was all a cruel joke, when Tatsuo went to get assigned a mission to pass the time while relaxing in Cloud, his assignment was one to help bring injured people to the hospital. While there was a chance not a single person would get injured on his shift, it was more likely that he’d be running around Cloud trying to locate them. He wasn’t even on home turf, but oh well, you win some and you lose some.
When he finally found his way around the labyrinth that was Kumogakure, he arrived at the medical clinic he was assigned at. He was to assist one of the carrier teams to quickly rush anyone who might’ve gotten injured on his shift to either a hospital or clinic based on the severity of their injuries. Tatsuo almost found it ironic, when he applied for a mission he didn’t include anything about his status as a ‘med nin’, maybe Umashi had checked a mark while he wasn’t looking or something. Either way, he was greeted by a young man about a decade Tatsuo’s senior. He offered Tatsuo a robe and a funny looking hat, he insisted that it was medical gear and it’d keep him sanitized, after all he was right. He had no idea how to get bloodstains out of his clothes either. Tatsuo happily obliged as he wasn’t looking to get covered in anything that day.
As he finished getting dressed the man took a seat on a nearby bench and rubbed his eyes. As he began to spoke, he explained that the medical ward was always understaffed, so he tended to get bad hours, especially here at this clinic which was considered one of the toughests in the village. It made sense, while he wasn’t in the slums of the Cloud, this was definitely the poorer area and a result crime and injuries were higher. Tatsuo just hoped he wouldn’t get lost in this village. Normally he wouldn’t care about getting lost, he was a shinobi he could beat the average person if he was mugged, but this is a village, and the people were nothing but average.
By the time the sun was totally overhead, they had gotten a call that there was a stabbing somewhere down the street. Apparently they had stolen the man’s wallet and left him to bleed out, luckily a pedestrian had been walking past the empty alley the man was assaulted in. As Tatsuo arrived, the man was right about the blood, he wondered how the guy was still alive. There was blood, everywhere. Tatsuo hesitantly assisted the man up, onto their stretcher and tried to wipe the blood off on his pants, but it just assisted on staining both his gloves and his pants. While this wasn’t the first and definitely not the last time Tatsuo would see blood, this was different, it wasn’t combat or anything there was just a man bleeding in front of him. It almost made him sick, but he was on a mission so he couldn’t discuss the morality of things at the moment he had a job to do.
As quick as possible, they had brought the man back to the clinic, in which he was taken away by another set of med nin who, presumably, went to work on the man as he seemed alive when they dropped him off. Tatsuo began to wonder about the man, would he suffer the same fate? Well, probably not, but being stabbed and left to die wasn’t something a shinobi could rule out. Either way, he wouldn’t try to let it bother him too much, but he wasn’t given much in regards of distractions. After that original call, the minutes seemed to just tick away. Trading jokes and stories with his partner, it was finally time for both of their shifts to end. The man, politely offered to see if they wanted to grab something to eat, but Tatsuo knew that this guy probably needed some sleep. Telling him where he was staying in the village so they could potentially do something at a later date at least. Tatsuo thought he was a pretty cool guy actually, the first Cloud ninja that he seemed to like, in all honesty.
