Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The awaited anticipation of the end of a long day at the Academy is often dancing on most children's minds after long hours of physical training and pouring over stacks of written strategies and lesson plans have left their bodies and minds numbed. Its arrival is the spark that reignites the flame in their hearts and gives them the motivation to burst out and seize what remains until their eyes must close and sleep encroaches on them. Seeing small hoardes of children pushing and shoving one another in their stampede to get out through the doors first was a common sight, but after the dust has cleared, there are always stragglers that trickle out with the calm step of their own pace. Kou often found herself among them, because while she had little trouble navigating through the halls of the Academy, she was still unprepared for dense crowds. Jabbing elbows, flailing arms, and stomping feet were still threats to her that she was mindful of. Ones that left lumps and bruises on her skin for days or weeks at a time. Judging by the way she has to drag her right foot behind her as she walks, she has enough on her plate to deal with for now. She lets the tip of her walking stick sweep the path in front of her to guide her way as she makes her way back to her and her grandfather's home. There was a satchel that sagged heavily on her shoulder that she needed to put away and writing assignments that needed to be done. Then the only thing that stood between her and listening to the gentle twinkle of the neighborhood chimes dancing in the wind was whatever chores and errands her grandfather needed help with.

In the midst of balancing her focus between trying to carefully weigh her steps and plan out the rest of her evening, Kou is oblivious to the three children on her tail. Two boys and a girl, all looking older to some degree than Kou herself. The boys looked near identical to one another, brothers only distinguishable by a crimson red handkerchief tied around the slightly taller one's neck. They had black hair cut short and shaggy, likely done with the aid of a sharpened knife and not much else, and they are gangly in a way that makes it look like they haven't come close to growing into their true size yet. The girl was younger than them, maybe only older than Kou by a year or a few months, and she was fair and pale. Blond hair turned near white has been tied to a bun, and her luminous blue eyes made her resemble one of the Haku clanswomen in training. She appears considerably more antsy as she follows behind the boys, but is quick to put on an eager smile when falling under their scrutiny. A desperate bid to be accepted and belong, an effort to have friends. They all kept their distance from Kou, simply observing her for now and trying to decide whether or not she was alert, but the group decided to draw near by the time they started to pass lines of adobe apartments.

With a nod to one another as their signal, the boys link their hands together and charge forward at Kou. She barely has time to lift her head to find the source of the running steps before the improvised clothesline thrusts her forward to smack face down onto the road beneath her. The force of the fall knocks a hoarse gasp of air free from her lungs and leaves her coughing up bits of sand and the muscles by her eyes twitch from behind the bandages in the midst of trying to focus. The pair laugh and clap their hands together for a victorious high five while the fair girl tried to catch up. She snatches the stick from out of Kou's reach when her trembling hand reaches out to pick it back up.

"Think we forgot about you snitching on us for ditching the training drills, huh? Thought we might take it easy on you like everyone else just because you're blind as a bat?" One of the boy asks in a cocky tone before he shakes his hand and wags a finger down at Kou. "See, I don't know what that old fart teaches you about manners, but here's some advice. First rule's to keep your head down and mind your own business." His brother's snickering in the background quiets down before he adds in, "Yeah, and your first assignment's gonna be a little game. You find and beat us, and we -might- let you have your stuff back.." He reaches down and snatches her satchel from her then the trio disperse, laughing together all the while until they find their spots. Then it is just Kou left alone with the sounds of residential life slowly filling in the silent void left by the other children. Shakily climbing onto her feet, Kou stays frozen in place, her head turning and her expression sinking. She gathers a breath of courage and shakily puts a foot forward, leading out with her hands. The hunt would have to be on whether Kou was prepared for it or not.

Jiro had long since forgotten what being in the academy was like. It had been almost ten years since he had been in the academy. Now, he had a bit more freedom than he originally had but it had come with a price. But now, he was minding his own business. He needed to get out of Suna for something. While the blonde Shinobi was about to walk to the Gates to seek permission to leave, he noticed something that drew his attention.

It started with the flow of blood. Three were menacing, threatening, but not anything serious -- nothing like the man he was working for. The third child's blood, however, drew his attention. It was weaker than the other blood he was sensing and Jiro could feel the distress flowing through her very veins. The Chigokai took a deep breath and stopped, knowing he was only going to get himself into trouble by doing this.

He stopped and watched the commotion in front of him. The girl with bandages on her eyes was being surrounded by the other three kids. Jiro moved closer, keeping his chakra in control so as to avoid any conflicts with them. He did not feel like having to explain why he killed three Academy students. The kids were practically torturing the one girl who was obviously blind. Jiro narrowed his eyes as he watched the two boys clothesline her down and the pale girl steal her walking stick.

He grit his teeth and moved closer upon hearing what the kids were telling the blind girl that that was her punishment for being a snitch and then he heard her choking, coughing on the sand she had landed in. He felt his own blood heating up, tensing as he watched the kids run off. The blonde in the red hoodie finally came out of his hiding place, shaking his head at how inexperienced this new generation was. He had been within sensing distance and none of them even picked up on his chakra. Pathetic... When he was that age, well, he had been put through torture that caused the psychological breaking that caused him to become to deranged Shinobi he now was.

Jiro walked out of the shadows and approached the small girl. He reached out to lightly touch her shoulder. He could hear the three children's blood flowing, pulsing with excitement. The blue eyes softened as he looked at the blind girl. "Just concentrate on finding their blood...or their chakra." He smirked a bit as he listened for them carefully.

The eighteen-year-old Shinobi looked back at the girl. "We'll find them. You'll get your stuff back..." Jiro knew exactly how to scare the kids into giving the girl her stuff back. "I'm Jiro," he finally said. "They went this way." He moved away from the student and began to walk in the direction the kids ran in. "Follow my voice. Slowly. One foot in front of the other...focus on the senses you do have."

The children's chakra was faint but easily traceable and the signatures remain clustered together after taking a turn that twisted and wound behind the backs of buildings to a small network of hidden shortcuts. Kou's shoulder reflexively draws up in a tense defensive posture when Jiro's fingers graze her but this posture relaxes the moment she hears his voice. It was one older and far too mature to be another student ready to go in for the kill; that is from a metaphorical social perspective at least. More likely they were a concerned villager or graduated Shinobi seeking to pick her up and dust her off as they tried to do. "Hai, sir..." An earnest and obedient yes to the instruction he offered her.

She lowers her hands to pull and fiddle with her fingers in anxious habit, her cheeks warmed a bashful and rosy shade. Kou had no idea how much Jiro had seen of what happened, but her head hissed with the thoughts of disappointment it must have cast on her. Thankfully there was little time left for her to soak and brood on the feeling of shame and embarrassment as Jiro started to help lead the way to the little miscreants. Kou nearly stumbles over herself in an effort to catch up with him, but even then there were still moments where she would have to quicken her pace to a trot to keep up with his longer stride. "My name is Kou." She mentions, and very carefully tries to choose how she words her thoughts, "I do not...think they meant me any real harm. They are not always like this..." Part of it was a lie, Kou honestly had no idea what the boys were like in their spare time. The girl though Kou knew her name to be Chitose someone that would sometimes share in lunch with her before she grew distant from Kou.

It was probably the only reason that she was even trying to make an effort to defend them or maybe even that was a lie and it was only her pride that made it matter. She did not want this near stranger to have it in his mind that she was just the brunt of some abuse day after day. She did not want to feel like the weak stone that could only crumble when it came time to count. Kou was just tired and careless today and she knew it. A soft sigh is expelled and that is all she says on it for now, choosing to instead concentrate like Jiro mentioned before. His voice and the sounds of his steps were the few things guiding her with confidence after all. The comment on blood was an entirely alien and confusing concept to her, but she could recall the lessons of chakra. However, it was specialized training so she wasn't sure where to begin.

The only way she could think was to just focus on the insubstantial waves and sensations. It was something that the ignorant might only be able to describe as darkness. To Kou she could never compare the difference between her eyes opened or closed, she just never had the means to process it. Instead it was just something that had never been, an uneasy stillness that morphed and tried to shape from what her other senses could tell her. A while walking and Kou finally brings herself to ask what stayed in the back of her mind considering all of this.

"What did you mean by...find their blood?"

Jiro felt her tense at his touch but then relax as soon as she heard his voice. He did not blame her. If anyone had touched him after he had been attacked, they would not have a limb anymore, or a pulse come to think of it. At the polite response, he giggled. There was something blood-curdling about it, something unnerving that, combined with his bloodline and associations, caused most people to avoid him. Fortunately for him, the girl was too young to know his sordid history and too in need of help to reject him. He stepped back slightly, giving her space before walking off.

She blushed and played with her fingers. Jiro bit the edge of his thumb as he looked around. He could taste the metallic taste of blood as he watched his thumb heal, blood dripping onto the sand, staining it red. He then looked around at the residential area. There was no one around and the packed sand roads and back alleys were almost pristine. It was truly amazing.

"They didn't mean it this time, Kou-Chan," he told her as he walked in the direction they had ran in, feeling their blood faintly. All three of them had adrenaline flowing and he shivered in anticipation. Sure, it was nothing like a real fight, but any type of blood and the thrill of the possibility of seeing it spilled, making it rain blood, excited the blonde. "But if you let this go, they'll mean it next time. And the time after that. Make it known you're not to be messed with..."

The Chigokai kept walking. He moved with ease but moved slower than he usually did to give Kou the chance to catch up to him. It was not babying her. No, it was his way of training her, pushing her to her limits without pushing her over the edge. Jiro laughed again at her question. "Oh, right. I forgot...only my Clan can do that..." He bit his lip as he thought.

"It's like...sensing chakra. I can feel and hear a person's blood. I know when they're scared, excited..." He hesitated. "Embarrassed," he added after a moment. "Don't be. Embarrassed, I mean. And next time, don't snitch. Take matters into your own hands. Only way to survive out here..."

He paused in walking at a crossroads. They could either go straight, turn left or turn right. As he paused, he leaned against one of the adobe walls that formed the back alleys of the peacefully silent village. He liked this area better than the Red Lights. He could hear their blood pulsing to the right and knew the way they should go, but he wanted this student to learn. "Concentrate. Use your hearing," he told her. "Straight, left or right?"

Her lips curve down into a solemn frown from the man's words. He was right in that if there were not lines drawn then the problem would just get worse. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but surely before the time she graduated. She couldn't stand the thought of having to bow to their every minor whim just because they could beat her once years ago. "You are right, Jiro-san. Turning the other cheek is not an option today...besides, that's my only bag and there's some important assignment tonight. It's covering a lot of the basic paperwork behind mission proceedings and stealth and flanking techniques.." The young girl eventually manages to walk alongside of Jiro for minutes at a time before she needed to worry about catching up with him again.

She was starting to get used to walking without her cane needing to test the waters in front of her. It was usually something she only did in places she knew like the back of her hand, like her own home. The sensation outside felt liberating to her like her ankles had just been freed of a cast-iron ball and chain. Part of her wondered if she should just abandon it altogether, but knew that she needed to take it one step at a time. She would be far too vulnerable before she ended up really getting used to it. Kou tilts her head up and listens to Jiro explain how his sensing of the blood works, her hidden expression one of curiosity. It was the smaller details that gave it away, like the way her brows lifted up and the way a small fascinated smile touched her lips. Until he brought up her embarrassed state from earlier, then she recoils in slight shock and halts in her steps.

She could have felt that she was blushing before, but it was still a surprise that he knew it so confidently. Was it really the way that he could feel her blood or was she simply being that obvious about it? Something that she would need to work on later, and for now she's quick to recover and catch up with the older Genin once more. When they reach the cross roads of the alley, she turns her head to inspect the choices given to her. Listening to the calm of the village helped to relax her and put her more at ease so concentrating was easier. To the left, she could hear the distant meows of a cat begging to be let in and the soft scratches of its claws dragging against the wood. There was not much out of the ordinary ahead of them as far as she could tell, maybe the gentle gust of wind that brushed in to cool the village streets.

Then she heard it, something she wasn't entirely sure of at first. It was the faint sounds of something falling that teased her senses. Wicker and paper hitting the dirt while an old can or two clattered and rolled in dull, slow motions until something stopped it. Kou couldn't be sure how far away the noise was when she heard it, but she had a feeling that it came from the path to the right of them. She speaks her decision to Jiro timidly, "We should go to the...right." She wanted to sound at least a little confident in her choice, but she did not want to force them into the wrong corner either. When time is a factor she was just going to have to push aside the doubt and pick a path to follow, even if the outcomes of it were not certain for her.

The blonde noticed the girl frown but he also saw that she knew he was right. If she did not stop them now, it would only get worse. He had heard of it happening, had seen it first hand when he still went to the academy for the one year he attended. At her comment, he nodded, but paused at the honorific. "Just Jiro," he corrected her, but his tone was gentle. He was not angry. He just did not see why people would use an honorific for him.

"I can help with your assignment too," he told her. "I have enough of experience for that, Kou-Chan." He did not know why he was helping her, but there was something about the situation that he felt he needed to get involved in. He wanted this girl, an underdog who everyone else thought would fail, to succeed. He wanted her to prove everyone, just like he had done.

He watched her stop and look up at him in shock. The Chigokai flashed her an unseen smirk and laughed. "It's okay, Kou-Chan. You didn't give it away. Your blood did." Jiro then kept moving, feeling her picking up the pace and matching his movements unbeknowest to her.

As he stopped at the crossroads and asked her where to go. Jiro knew exactly where they needed to go, but he was already strong. Kou was still learning so he decided to not do anything but tell her if it was correct or wrong. While she waited, he tuned in on the kids' blood, keeping them within range. Then Kou made her choice and he smirked.

"That's correct," he said. He could not help but feel the burst of pride that slid through him. It was something he never felt before. Well, that was not exactly true. There were times when he did feel proud, but those were for things he knew he should have never felt proud for.

Don't go there...

"Don't be so unsure of yourself, Kou-Chan," he said gently. He turned to the right and began to walk down the alleys. As they neared and moved closer to the blood flow, he pulled out his kunai and slit his own hand open. Jiro's blood infused with his chakra and soon turned to tiger claws made of blood. They hardened over his knuckles and he smirked. Jiro was ready to play and he let out a soft laugh.

"They're close..." The blonde ran the claws over the stucco alleyways. "They won't mess with you ever again, Kou-Chan. You just gotta find them...just focus on the sounds around you."

"Sorry Jiro sah..." Kou catches herself almost making the very same mistake again but she clamps her mouth shut to cut herself short. Instead, she chooses to focus on his generous offer of help to distract from it. "That would be nice, usually my grandfather has to read what's written on the papers to me so that I know what I'm answering. Writing isn't too hard, although.." She does hum and confesses, "I've never really asked anyone about my handwriting. I guess I've never been told that what I write is illegible. Seems fair to count that in itself as a small victory." She laughs softly to herself. It might not be funny itself, but she was excited. She didn't imagine that she'd be meeting anyone today and she realized just how long it had been since she could have a study partner or a proper conversation.

By the time he's trying to reassure her that it wasn't entirely her fault she was figured out so quickly, she is practically beaming with a small but radiant smile of contentment. Kou wasn't sure how she could go about repaying Jiro for his kindness, so she offers to him, "If you do want to help me, you could stay for dinner if you wanted. My grandfather wouldn't mind and I was thinking of stopping by the market to pick up some stuff to make curry over rice. I can't make it too spicy because of him, but I've been working a lot on developing flavors and he says I'm getting very good at it. Feels like the least we could offer to you." The offer is left for him to consider and she looks around trying to keep track on whatever pieces of the children's trail they could. Her head tilts towards the sound of Jiro's claws as they scratch on the wall, hinting that the noise is not entirely lost on her, but it's discarded and tuned out in favor of their real targets.

On the way, they end up passing the scattered rubbish and waste bin that one of the boys knocked over carelessly in his energetic retreat. Jiro was right in that they were drawing closer, Kou could hear the echoes of their conversation approaching and getting louder the further they traveled down the alley. She stopped and whispers to Jiro in muted tones, hoping the sound doesn't carry, "What should I do? They talked about wanting a fight...I should try to go in with some kind of strategy." Her brow dips and furrows in thought and she finally decides, "Maybe if I try to talk to Chitose, she'll come around to our side and we'll outnumber them. But...if not, it would probably be best to focus on the other two. I have a feeling she'll be easier to scare than them, they love a fight, so they'll be the bigger of the two threats. Worse comes to worse, she might run off and might still have something on mine...she'll probably give it back the next day though." She reaches out and starts to carefully trace shapes onto the wall of the building, able to trace some shapes into the dust and sand sticking to the sun-dried clay.

She had absolutely no idea how Jiro usually handled confrontations, but it couldn't hurt to open her thoughts up to him to see if she was on the right track in how she processed this. "I know I can't match them in brawn, but maybe if we both stay moving we can use their lack of restraint against them and tire them out. Maybe just act defensively until they're more vulnerable, then get more aggressive if we have to.."

When she started to call him Jiro-San, the blonde shot her a glare -- not caring if she could not see it. She could probably feel it though, that something was shooting her an evil look. The Shinobi then smiled at the mention of homework and handwriting. Kou seemed so excited to finally have something close a friend and Jiro liked the attention. The Chigokai just listened silently, letting the girl chatter away. It was almost adorable how she was so innocent, so blissfully unaware of anything outside of her small world of the academy.

He thought back to his time before Akkuma. Those eight years he had taken for granted and had been so selfishly centered on himself and the Academy, never knowing that true evil existed in the world. Until he turned nine and met true evil. Now, nine years later, he was lying with the Devil if he wanted to be honest with himself. And he found that he actually liked being so close to something so dark and tainted.

Jiro looked over at the girl as she started talking about inviting him over for dinner. The blonde truly saw just how naive children were now. The girl was so trusting and he realized then that Shinobi were not trained in the Academy properly. It was a shame, a true shame. Shinobi were supposed to be fighters. They were not supposed to be trusting. But he smiled. He was hungry and dinner and helping Kou sounded like a nice break from what he usually did to get food in his stomach.

"I'd like that, Kou-Chan," he told her as they made their way closer to the children who had tormented the girl so ruthlessly.

What should Kou do? The Shinobi thought for a moment, biting his lip roughly as he tilted his head to the side. "You fight them. Two on three. Me and you versus them," he whispered with a soft laugh. "Talking don't work with Shinobi, Kou-Chan."

At her last statement, he turned to face her. He walked closer to her, hoping she could feel him. "Size doesn't matter...all that matters is how much inner power you have." He began to walk towards the blood flow again. "If she runs, it'll be two on two -- a fair fight."

He let out a soft, manic laugh. "If she runs with your stuff, I'll make sure she doesn't get too fa--" The last word of the sentence was cut off when he heard a sound. They were finally close enough to actually hear them. Jiro looked at the girl and smirked. "We found them..."

"Inner power..." Kou whispered after Jiro's suggestion and she nods her head in slow consideration. "I haven't thought about that...at least how much of it I might have." She flexes the fingers of her left hand, curling them into a tense fist before it relaxes. She repeats this a few times and decides more confidently, "We'll fight, see where it leads. Won't back down." Hearing that Jiro has started to hear the Academy students as well tells her that they will not have much longer to talk amongst each other without them hearing. So, Kou falls silent and continues on her path until they reach an abandoned corner of the back alleys where the three are in the midst of rooting through the tattered satchel. The tallest boy has taken control of her stick and uses it to occasionally bonk the heads of his friends when he feels they are getting too greedy. Hearing the scrolls and papers getting crinkled and tossed carelessly aside leaves Kou thinning her lips in disapproval. She clears her throat in an effort to get their attention.

The children lift their heads, the pale girl looking embarrassed while the boys look amused that this blind sheep was able to find them on her own. At least so they thought, their expressions soon change to something wary and guarded whenever they see the unfamiliar man behind her. At his age he could easily loom over the lot of them whether he was trying to or not. Caught off guard, they quickly try to guess who they are; if he was a potential instructor that they had yet to meet, a higher ranking shinobi, or just a random vagrant that had no business in the confrontation. With little for them to go on beyond Jiro's intimidating appearance, the scrappier of the boys turns his head to the side and spits somewhere out of the way. "Well well, here we were thinking you were never gonna show up and we were gonna have to help ourselves. Surprised you could make it this far...doesn't seem that fair though." He flicks his wrist to motion towards Jiro, "Probably paid that drunk to be your seeing eye dog?"

His voice breaks to crack his attempt to disguise his uncertainty behind belittling her and Jiro both. He asks Jiro directly, "How much'd she give you? Tell you what, if you tell her to scram and walk the other way, I know where my dad's hiding a bottle of wine he's been saving for a special occasion. Can be all yours." The other boy agrees over his shoulder with a laugh, "Probably better than whatever swill you're used to finding..." Chitose simply shifts uncomfortably and ducks her head in deference as she works on gathering up the papers that were in her reach. Kou interjects calmly, starting to tread towards the sound of the voices, "You caught me unaware once, but not again. Now, I'm not here to talk with you. I want everything that every one of you stole back and I'm not leaving until we have it."

Determined and concentrated on her hearing, she could start to notice things that she hadn't noticed before. The breaths that they would take, the sounds of their clothes brustling against their skin and the walls behind them, and even how their very presence changed the nature of the ambiance surrounding them altering how the noise reached Kou's senses. The sounds almost seemed to bend and bounce around them in their presence, almost giving her an idea of the very alleyway they stood without her needing to walk the walls. It was a relatively narrowed space, with no escape in the space in front of them. She knew that she and Jiro essentially had them cornered; an advantage that she knew would definitely work in their favor.

She comes to a stop just short of where one of the boys jump down to, and though he's about to ready a taunt, Kou strikes his stomach with an open-palmed strike without warning. It came like a serpent coiled in wait for its prey to make a wrong move. It does make him double over and cough, but the blow there didn't even have enough force to push him back from her. The other boy jumps down shortly behind him and looks torn between trying not to laugh at his brother for getting hit so easily by the girl and anger towards Kou for hitting his family at all. He wasn't going to stand for it, but Chitose just sits with her back against the wall to reservedly watch what's about to happen. She seems to feel that whatever Kou and Jiro have to offer that her friends would be able to handle it and she would be better suited to guarding the satchel.

Jiro nodded when she repeated back what he had just said. Another smirk briefly crossed his lips before he focused back on the bullies who were tormenting Kou. "Never back down," he reminded her. "No matter what. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain..."

The blonde tilted his head to the side, listening again for the kids. He could hear them now, not just their blood and he shivered a bit in anticipation. And soon, Kou cleared her throat and he saw the others look at her. It was a few moments before they noticed him, but when they did, their demeanor changed. It had gone from cruel to scared. Their fear was palpable. The Chigokai could almost taste it, feel it flowing through their veins and that made him all the more eager to finish the little game they had started.

At the comments, his eyes narrowed dangerously, but the smirk that crossed his face was what they should have worried about. The smirk showed a promise of death and pain. He took a step closer as they got their cockiness back. A laugh left his throat -- manic and unstable. But he would not show them what he was capable of just yet. His blood claws had long been hidden back inside of his own blood flow again. He would show them what a Chigokai was truly capable of, but he wanted to lure them into a false sense of security for then.

"The only thing I'll be drunk on is your blood and I'm no one's bitch..." he hissed out.

He could hear the blood pulsing, practically cowering in the kid's fear. The sensation made the blonde take another step forward, but he made no attempt to attack, waiting for Kou to make the first move. If he made the first move, she would be seen as weak, having to hide behind yet another person. He was only there to even the odds and he would do that quite well. "She didn't give me anything, Prick." At the bribery of wine, he rolled his eyes. "I told you already, the only thing I want to drink is your blood...I want to bathe in it..." Another laugh that would send a shiver up the spine of most Shinobi.

Jiro kept one eye on the kids and one eye on Kou, waiting for her. Soon, Kou was defending herself. Another flicker of pride shivered through his bloodlust as he saw her finally standing up for herself. By their reactions, it was obvious to him that it was the first time she had done such a thing and he could feel her blood pulsing from adrenaline and fear, but he knew after the first move, the fear would fade and she would be in her element. The kids were not so cocky now that Jiro and Kou had them cornered and they were trying to stand their ground, using the last of their bravado to spook Kou. But it was not going to work this time it seemed.

As Kou finally did an open-palm strike with no warning and handled the one boy, Jiro honed in on the girl with the scatchel. Before the poor girl knew what was going on and before she could run, Jiro grabbed her. He positioned himself behind her, hand around her throat in a chokehold. He used his free arm to pull out his kunai, slitting his own hand. When the blood started to drip, staining the sand red, Jiro infused it with his chakra, a handful of blood senbon soon manifesting.

He pushed the senbon against her neck, not enough to break the skin but enough to cause fear. The girl's blood flow was pounding in his ears by that point. His voice soon carried, drawing attention from Kou to him. "Touch her and I slit this bitch's throat." He trailed the senbon down roughly, eyes lit up in excitement. "You follow them to feel wanted." He was talking to the girl now. "They're using you. They'd throw you to the wolves. Look at where you are now. He jumped in to protect his brother, but did either of them stop me from getting to you?"

The senbon was pushed a bit harder. "I could slit your throat...make it rain blood...and they will let it happen. No one cares about the lapdog. People like us, we're just tools that the more powerful use. Don't be a follower. Make them think you are, get them wrapped around your finger and rise to the top with them..." Another laugh. "And when they least expect it...kill them."

The children look deeply unsettled by Jiro's words and they are already starting to look for ways that they could get around him and Kou to get away. Not knowing how else to handle the situation, one of the boys force an uncertain laugh which causes the other to follow suit. Chitose does not laugh and huddles up by drawing her knees to her chest and clutching the satchel nearby tightly for security. When everything is motion, a fist is raised and in the brief moments that it took Jiro to leap over to Chitose, and the boy defending his wheezing brother manages to land a punch. Kou, hearing that something is coming, could at least lift her arm in an effort to block off the blow. Her aim is a little off in the split moment it took her to reach but it does help to negate the injury to not much more than a swelling lip.

She ducks her head and draws in a sharp breath through her teeth but tries to ready herself for the fight. The older Genin brings things to a halt and her and the boys turn their attention to him. Kou cannot see the threat that Jiro is putting the now whimpering Chitose through but the boys can. The color drains from their faces and their eyes widen in horror unsure of whether they should be looking at Jiro or the senbon that was putting Chitose in danger. "H-hey wait!!" The prepubescent boy shouts, the cracking of his voice worsening in his panicked state. "We were just messing around, y-you aren't serious are you?!" Both of their hands fly up and they scramble back away from Kou to show they aren't about to disobey Jiro. "Okay, okay! See?! N-now, let's just cool it okay?!" Desperately bidded pleas from the boys for Jiro to calm down.

The pale girl grimaces and looks up at Jiro awkwardly from an angle while struggling to stay still to keep the senbon from pressing any harder against her neck. Tears streak down her faintly rosy cheek, her heart is racing, and her body trembles as she listens to the man's words spoken to her. Blue eyes dart over to the boys with dismay and betrayal written on her features from the way they remain rooted where they stand in the midst of her danger. Unable or unwilling to wait to see how it goes, the boy Kou punched turns and starts to run away. He stumbles and falls on multiple occasions on the way out of the alley his buckling legs unable to support his weight at the moment. The other student stays but a cold sweat drenches his brow and he has to swallow hard before he finds his voice again.

"Ch-Chitose, you...you know that's not true, r-right? W-W-We like hanging out with you and...and we'd n-never abandon you. J-just give back the stuff, it's g-gonna be okay." Chitose moves slowly to not trigger Jiro to attack, gathering what she can before holding it out to either him or Kou to take. Through her muted sobs she barely mumbles in incoherent tones, "I'm s-s-so sorry.." Kou turns her head taking in everything that she's been hearing. She gently tells Jiro, "Does sound like they've learned their lesson. Let's go, Jiro? They aren't worth whatever trouble we'll get in if we beat them senseless." She walks over to the pair and reaches out to feel the air in front of her and Chitose until she hits the satchel that had been hastily packed up. There's no resistance from the pale girl when Kou draws the bag out of Chitose's grasp and slings it on her shoulder again.

Jiro saw the fear in the children's faces. His blue eyes honed in on them as he smirked widely. The laugh made him giggle manically again as he took in the scene in front of him. As soon as Kou made the first move, he took that as an opportunity to go after the girl holding the satchel that they had been trying to get. His body tensed as he held the blood senbon to her neck, lightly tracing them over her jugular, the most sensitive spot on a person. "Don't make any sudden movements, bitch..." he hissed in her ear.

When the punch connected with Kou's lip, instead of checking on her, he drew the boys' attention to him and their little minion. The blonde had only been playing before but now the stakes were up now that the two boys had decided to fight back. Oh, that was a big mistake and if he had it his way, he would make the sands run red with their blood. However, the two boys were now focused on him, or rather the senbon pressed against the pale girl's neck, being pushed in deeper. The sound of one of their voices cracking made him laugh again.

The blonde sociopath giggled in response as they asked if he was serious. "Shoulda thought about this before you messed with someone ya thought couldn't defend themselves." When they told him to cool it, his smirk widened. "But I was just starting to have fun! You said you wanted to play a game! Well, I want to play..."

The girl in his grasp was crying. He used a senbon to wipe a tear away, leaving a streak of the blood from the senbon on her face. The look of betrayal in light blue eyes when he told her people like them were just tools to be used made him smirk more. And in that moment, one of her so-called 'friends' turned heel and fled. That works to my advantage... He let out another laugh and looked down at the girl in a deranged mockery of sadness.

"You know who would take care of you?" Jiro asked. Of course, he would never put anyone through the hell he went through. But he knew neither of these kids would call his bluff. "My Senpai...Akkuma-Sama. He'd be able to make you stronger and he would never let you get used like this. He took care of me and look at how I turned out!"

Soon, however, Chitose gave the satchel back. Jiro slowly let the girl go -- though not before leaning into her and licking the blood off her cheek. "See what I mean, Chitose-Chaaaaan?" The "Chan" was said mockingly. "The first sign of trouble and your so-called friend took off like a scared little bitch with his tail between his legs. For all he knows, you could be dead now. He risked your life for his..." The senbon soon turned back to blood and slowly began to move back into the cut in his hand. He licked the blood from the cut and watched the wound close.

With that, he shoved the girl away from him and to the remaining boy roughly. "Take your little girlfriend and get," he told them. "Next time you fuck with Kou-Chan, I tell Akkuma-Sama about the Academy student who looks like she has Haku blood in her. Got it?"

The pale girl sniffles and draws in fast and shallow breaths through her nose, her chest rapidly rising and falling in a near state of hyperventilation. To answer Jiro's question, she shakes her head quickly and listens to him in terrified silence. The name Jiro uses doesn't seem to strike recognition into any of their features, but the thought of someone that made the older man what he is today was not someone that they wanted to chance meeting. "N-n-no thank you...I'm f-f-fine at the ac-c-cademy." She barely manages to whisper to her, trying to keep her voice gentle to avoid upsetting Jiro. There's a muted sob that escapes her when the boy runs away, but at least the one who stayed is providing her some comfort and helping her breathe easier.

When Chitose is shoved away from Jiro, she is sent flailing in the air to the awaiting grasp of her friend who catches her and keeps her from hitting the sandy ground. The youth does his best to check and see if that senbon broke any skin on her before shifting his gaze to take in Jiro's warning. "W-we won't...we won't mess with her again, I swear!" He snivels pitifully, his eyes darting to Kou briefly and her bandaged obscured eyes. They need no other warning before he tries to gather the pale girl up and rush with her down the alley where his brother had flailed to. Seeing no need to interrupt, Kou listens to the sounds of their frantic fleeing and lifts her head to look up at Jiro. "That went...better than I could have thought. I was expecting a brawl." She lifts her fingers to touch the tender spot on her lip and asks him, "Not a hostage situation." That part of what happened was less than ideal, but Kou did have to concede a point, "But it did lead to no one getting hurt. So not too much harm in it...thank you, Jiro."

She bows deeply in the direction of his perch to show her gratitude before straightening herself up. "Come down now, we can go home and get things settled there, then we just need to make a trip to the market. You can meet my grandfather, Goro." She curls her fingers around her walking stick about to return to her normal routine but she makes herself pause. For some reason, she did not feel like she needed it as much. Opening the other senses at her disposal seemed to awaken a whole new type of confidence in her. Kou had always just assumed that she was handling her blindness well. The thought had never crossed her mind that she was the one that was holding herself back by sticking to the routines that had come to work. There was little arguing that what would help her at home would hold her back at the academy.

The fact that it was getting easier to make out was going on around her without the crutch that the stick provided brought her hope that she could hold onto. Who knew what she could be capable of if she kept on practicing on refining the way she listened to the world around her. The tip of the cane is set down on the ground and Kou walks with it by her side. The cane no longer sweeps the space in front of her, she walks without fear and leads the way for Jiro to follow behind her. "I'm glad to have met you. If you ever need anything, just let me know, okay? I hope to be able to return the kind favors you have given me eventually."
