”Uh… Sir I don’t know if that was some weird call sign phrase to see if I’m really your contact, but I’m confused”
The man explained looking at Kamaru and then around them at people in the area.
”I’ll have to apologize for the line of questioning than. During my last mission my contact in the area realized his personal actions had some rather unique consequences and tried to make amends. Mostly for himself really and at the worse time for me, it ended with my mission almost being compromised and lead to him almost getting himself killed. With that in mind, I’ll ask again, have you or any loved ones meet with the target or any affiliates in question for any means recently? Do you plan on getting married to someone in their family or vice versa? Do you have an appointment to be the God parent of one of his children? I still need an answer to these questions.”
Kamaru stated again.
I guess I finally have reached into the realm of odd balls like the rest.
Kamaru mentally concluded to himself. Over time there had been a startlingly shift of what Kamaru considered normal to what he saw on a regular basis from shinobi. He had displayed on this occasion an extreme sense of paranoia he figured due to his last mission but given the perspective of an outsider or normal person he probably just seemed a bit odd.
Although his facial expression seemed pretty much the same he had taken on an apologetic tone with the man in front of him as he restated the questioning. They could tell he was by no means joking and was dead serious.
As the man stammered out a no finally and started in on explaining details of why Kamaru nodded along.
Although odd it did have a purpose. Granted the man could be lying to his face but since Kamaru didn’t want another mission to end up the same way he was trying to be as thorough as possible.
With the business with the contact’s background looked over Kamaru looked into what the contact knew about the new guy in town and the supposed gathering he had with him now. When he explained the man gotten big real quick Kamaru expected to see a large gathering, he didn’t expect to see a man maybe ten centimeters taller than him with four times the weight Kamaru possessed. He wondered if it was actually the same person or a double of some sort or just an elaborate disguise or scheme to throw people off. He had the tell-tale birthmark on his face though which was the major identifier from what the informant had told him.
Due to the girth of the man and the amount of his followers Kamaru didn’t spend a lot of time on recon and opted to look into getting into the area, finding the artifact, and getting out of the area tonight as quickly as possible. That night Kamaru found himself sitting in the meeting place staring at the odd altar wondering about the whole mess of things that had just transpired in front of him and what he did to intervene and sighed. It was simple enough to find the place via the guide after Kamaru snuck into the cave in the wilderness things should have gone easily enough. From the shadows of the cave Kamaru looked around the area not really hindered by the man as he came in with his followers. Placing the item on the altar Kamaru stopped search since he had little else to do besides grabbing the item. The man chanted and spouted out religious sounding verses but Kamaru paid him little mind, if he was a true believer now Kamaru couldn’t really tell as the man swayed the half dozen followers following his every word. Kamaru was about to make a distraction and get the item and leave with several people stopped at the cave opening causing the man and his followers to stop their ritual of sorts.
”Who dares disturb the Ritual! Who bring these blasphemous ways to the Cult of the Eternal Eye!”{/b] the man demanded looking at the people flooding in now slowly.
Kamaru controlled himself after hearing the name of the cult. The crude icon of an eye could now be distinguished on the man’s robes.
”Amori Tohaku, where’s the girl and the other artifacts? She’s gone missing plus the assassin hasn’t sent word of her. We know you work for her so give us the location of the girl and the artifacts and we’ll let you live maybe. We’ll be taking the artifact you have as well.” he stated in a very cold businesslike tone.
The prophet of sorts of the Cult of the Eternal Eye laughed outright. He walked forward and explained if they could kill him they were welcome to try. Three people dashed forward thrusting weapons into the man with little hesitation from the man the blades were removed blood flowing from wounds. Instead of falling over from the few fatal wounds the man just laughed again. The leader sighed and moved a hand around.
”Fine, you’re tough to kill, I’ll just kill your followers than we’ll talk.” he explained switching tactics. This got the man and his cult a bit nervous as the leader of the invaders started chanting, the people with him seeming to take on a almost sleeplike state before they started yelling. Their posture changed drastically as they hunched forward snarling, weapons brandished by the lot of them as they moved forward like a pack of wild animals snarling bounding past the leader of the cult who suddenly tried to stop them. Fear was in his eyes. It was apparent he wasn’t a fighter and the way the people moved away it was pretty clear they were not long for this world. Kamaru had already gotten the artifact, he didn’t know what it did but his primary objective was over. He sighed to himself since he could probably get out without getting involved… but then he’d be witness and apart of a group slaughter over some weird artifact, and possibly more, the location of which the cult leader might have.
Kamaru grumbled internally as he hands moved through hand seals molding chakra and pulling weapons free from a concealed pouch in his jacket. The howling and snarling slowly quieted as Kamaru moved through the shadows as people looked for it, something killing the berserk invaders quieting all the people in the cave.
”I know you can see me so you can drop the act.” Kamaru explained walking up next to the cult leader suddenly smacking him in the back of the head.
”How about you make a deal with me instead. I take him into custody, you tell me what the artifact does and where you got it from, I hit you only half as hard as your former boss wanted me too, and I don’t tell these people who you really are… I’d disband your group and live a legit lifestyle someplace else for a bit. If they’ve come to find you they’re going to keep coming until you’re dead. They’re not really pleased with my involvement.” Kamaru explained. The chill of the reality of his words set in making the man sweat a bit. As he began Kamaru put up a finger, he hadn’t taken his eyes off the leader of the invaders this whole time and as Kamaru had been talking the man had pulled a large ax from his back taking on an attacking stance.
”No excuses, after I take care of this guy you think about what I’m about you see me do and if you think your Eternal Eye thing can protect you.” Kamaru explained.
Kamaru would have expected a long fight but considering it was a man he was facing off against Kamaru didn’t have as much trouble as he thought he would, going toe to toe with a demon kind of stepped up his personal training regimen lately. Granted the seals he had placed throughout the area on the way going in as the man dived forward didn’t hurt any either. As Kamaru kicked the twitching mass he figured the guy would live, being burned from several gouts of flame and stabbed from various hidden seals with projectiles in them had Kamaru nodding before looking at his new very scared large informant. Looking behind the man and around the cave at something unseen to the man Kamaru opened his hands in front of him. ”You gonna talk or am I going to set off the rest of the traps in here… your followers may get caught in the crossfire so I apologize in advance.”. The man quickly explained what Kamaru wanted. Thankfully he couldn’t tell Kamaru had been bluffing.
Walking up Ieyasu saw several people leaving along with the leader. A man or a woman, mostly a bundle that reeked of burnt flesh sat in front of Kamaru as he sat on a rock shaking his head.
”Is something the matter?” he said trying to piece together what had happened.
Kamaru looked behind him at the dead bodies of people that looked more animal than human in death.
”Not really….Time to go Ieyasu… Time to go.” Kamaru stated with a sigh. Kamaru need a vacation soon.
