Birth to early childhood: Ages (0-10yrs)
Originally born in Port Cirrus, the famous port city to the southwest of Kumogakure, Daigo grew up in an extended family. He lived with his parents, aunts, and uncles in a decent sized home which was slowly falling into disrepair despite their best efforts. Daigo grew up with his cousins among whom was Daisuke, the future medical sennin, in a comfortable lower middle class society. While Daigo’s aunt and uncle occupied the jobs of upstart merchants, his parents simply helped where they could to support them. They provided the goods through their own illicit means while Daisuke’s parents sold it to pay the bills, completely unaware of how their goods were obtained. While the adults saw to supporting their family, Daisuke and Daigo’s much older cousin sought to train them in the ways of the kaguya clan, though it was less savage in nature.
The family made efforts to chat up the tourists and gather new information about a plethora of subjects. They made it their mission to gather intel on what their customers desired so that they could be prepared for the demand by stocking their home with said items. For all their efforts, money was still tight in their home; Tighter than the virgin Mary, before she gave birth. Daigo’s parents even went so far as to start making backroom deals with low life smugglers. In exchange for storing contraband in their basement unbeknownst to the rest of the family, they would be rewarded handsomely for their services. Initially, his parents actions could be deemed as simply reckless and blame it on their desperation and naivety. After all, it was all done to ensure their family’s financial security. Unfortunately over time, it began to corrupt them even more so than what they were already. His relative’s business eventually flourished into a very successful merchant company after many years of hard work, dedication, sleepless nights, careful planning, and trust in one another. Thanks only in a small part his the illicit activities of Daigo's parents.
The business, now known as The ‘Supernova’ Merchant Company or S.M.C. for short, grew to such a proportion that Daigo’s parents were put in charge of managing a second business. They were sent to expand and operate out of Port Cirrus’ sister city, Kelmura, which was located further south. Believing strongly in education, the older generation went on to send their youth to the best schools where they collectively remained a B average on their studies. Where Daisuke’s parents excelled in street smarts, they made sure that the young generations excelled in book-smarts. While that was once true for Daigo’s parents, their seedy deals made them value hard labor and street smarts more so than academics. As a result, whenever Daisuke visited Kelmura, he was put to work like Daigo, but when Daigo visited Port Cirrus, he was made to study. It was around this time that Dashi left for what he believed to be a good school only to realize he had been sent to a ninja village. Dealing with the daily stresses of a life in the Anbu branch while attempting to manage a misdiagnosed and untreated mental illness over an extend period of time would take its toll on Dashi. Eventually, he would succumb to the pressure and lose his life during an interrogation.
The Kaguya clan, or at least this branch of the clan, believed in not holding grudges against anyone so long as their family member or close friend was given a glorious death. After a month or so of mourning the death of their relative, the families continued on with their lives as such was the way of life. The sad fact was that the world would not stop spinning just because a relative had passed. The world was not that merciful. From Daigo's perspective, they still had a successful business on their hands. Now was the time to secure their place in the higher social class rather than watch their slowly rising empire crumble because of a single person. He loved his uncle dearly since Dashi was one of the few people Daigo ever really connected with, but they had to get back to business. They would do not only for financial means, but because this for the sake of their future generations. It was around this time that Daigo’s behavior caused concern for his folks. After being examined, he was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder due to his lack of regard for other people’s rights, the violent outbursts against bullies, the lack of an emotional connection to his family or friends, and his lack of conforming to social norms. Upon further examination, he would later be deemed as a “high functioning sociopath” rather than a psychopathy. Regular psychotherapy would have helped Daigo better manage his illness, but the illicit activities his parents would force him to do over the next few years would only make things worse. It would be a long time before Daigo received the help he needed today.
Blacksmith apprentice: Ages (10-12yrs)
While Daisuke and Dashi before him both had been sent to kumogakure to attend school by accident, Daigo had decided to go in another direction. Caution was a family trait, it seemed, as Daigo only thought about securing his financial future in case the merchant business ran dry. From that point onward, visits to Port Cirrus stopped all together and Daigo's education consisted of subjects related to the occupation of a merchant. While he searched for a decent career path, his parents were approached by their smuggler contact. The smuggler was a man who had originally made contact with them in Port Cirrus, no doubt with another scheme in mind. Apparently, he heard about how well his southern friends were doing and decided to pay them a visit in hopes of making another business proposal. Sure enough, a request was made to store larger quantities of contraband in false bottom crates which would be stored in the S.M.C.'s warehouses throughout Kelmura. Business grew extensively after that, which led to the parents buying up more warehouses to store their products, both legal and illegal. In order to support trade overseas, they went so far as to buy a colonial style ship known as a frigate to act as a naval convoy with great offensive and defensive capabilities. Only two small crews of men were recommended by the smuggler contact and stationed for the ship’s crew while the others worked as the warehouse’s security guards.
Indeed, they were making big investments in the Supernova Merchant Company their in-laws created. Though he was a man of insignificance, the smuggler was in need of a large quantity of raw materials as well as rare materials, which were used for making weapons. His intention was to sell them overseas for a hefty fee. Lightning country was known for its minerals and the like. Upon hearing that they would get a huge kick back, Daigo’s parents developed a scheme where they’d use their son to infiltrate the armory of the imperial army and steal their goods while learning their services. After all, who would suspect a kid? Lots of people, that’s who, but they didn’t care. Money had blinded them and their desperation to remain in a higher social class rather than revert back into poverty would cause them to sacrifice Daigo to a life of crime. They sold him on the idea of following in Dashi’s and Daisuke’s footsteps by having a military career. Seeing as Daigo was just a kid and didn’t really have a choice in the matter, he was shipped off to the nearest imperial army base where he began basic training. Normally, children were not allowed to join the ranks so young, but his kekkei genkai was taken into account and he was made into a special exception. What base commander did not want a strong young man, from a great clan and who was destined to be a killing machine, in their ranks? The fact that Daigo was made to work in the blacksmiths unit only eased the commander’s mind about child soldiers issue.
Just a few months prior to Daigo's arrival, the smuggler had reached out to gain contacts within the blacksmith unit of the army. The blacksmiths were willing to offer their services if the stockpilers (Daigo’s parents) could supply a member of their own to help minimize the risk. In order for the scheme to work, the smiths required an additional member who had exceptional knowledge about ledgers, trade routes, land and naval convoys along with other related subjects. Despite being a young preteen, Daigo met the requirements of the smiths. The family business was all he was taught after Daisuke left. He knew how to stockpile goods from other artisans and gather raw materials and craft new makeshift items. His father taught him to be acutely aware of estimated convoy travel times, the level of risk associated with certain trade routes, and which merchant's or smuggler's tax percentage would be most opportune. He was made to properly manage, prepare, and send out both land and naval convoys to earn money. All the while, smuggling out small amounts of rare materials to help make a secret profit. Unfortunately, Daigo had been groomed all too well for this position. Helping his family run the S.M.C. while possessing a near perfect combination of book and street smarts did not do him any favors.
Although he was starting to dislike his parents because of their neglectful actions, Daigo could not help but feel a bit sad that he would not be with them anymore as the transport pulled up. Upon first glance, Daigo could tell that the transport seemed to be filled with future soldiers. All of whom boarded with noble intentions of serving their country. Daigo, knowing that he did not deserve to be in such fine company, boarded hesitantly. He kept his chin up, however, for he knew that he'd become stronger for having taken this journey. He did this not only for his parent's sake, but for his as well. They reached the Capital City of the nation, Raiden’s eye, after a few hours of travel and dismounted from the transport before falling in line at the behest of the drill instructor. Apparently, a little more basic training was needed before Daigo managed to join the imperial army’s blacksmith unit and after such a long travel as well. He wasn't thrilled as one might imagine, but he endured it. It was his duty to do so. To be in a new place was rather strange for him. All he ever knew were Kelmura and Port Cirrus, but now the city was his new house. The barracks became his bedroom, the mess hall become his kitchen, the training grounds become his playground, and the smithy or as Daigo liked to call it, the forge, became one of his many classroom.
No one suspected a thing really. He joined easily enough as an apprentice and fell under the tutelage of the blacksmiths. Masters of metal and as corrupt as they came. Upon his arrival, he delivered a letter to the head blacksmith which assured him that Daigo could be trusted. The young man was then taught the ways of the blacksmiths; taught how to bend metal to his will; taught how to properly store his tools and materials; taught how to memorize his lies; taught how to skim off the top; taught how to plan ahead. During his time as an apprentice, he found his role in the entire situation to be less than honorable and so after a while...he demanded a bigger cut for such a risk, seeing as informing the higher ups could result in everyone’s imprisonment. The way he saw it, he was property of the army until he was of age. If he told anyone what he was doing or if he kept quiet but got caught, he’d be jailed or put to death. There was no chance of seeing his parents anytime soon and frankly he did not want them around, so payment was his only demand. He received nasty looks for a while, but he didn’t care about the opinions of his co-workers. All he had to do was not be himself; to play the role of a greedy immoral blacksmith just like the rest of them.
Blacksmith: Ages (12-14yrs)
After a few years of both legal and illegal service, Daigo had finally attained the position he desired as a master blacksmith. This ultimately meant that he had no higher station to fulfill in his life. One might have thought that he had truly taken on his role to heart, but he was still the same deep down. He found it all immoral and he wanted to tell others, both for the sake of honesty as well as for the sake as being viewed in a positive light. No one would trust a theft but everyone could trust an honest man. An honest man, it was the role he needed to manipulate others to his advantage. One night, Daigo bothered to ask myself "how can I imagine being an honest man when I had such immoral parents who convinced me at an early age to commit crimes to earn extra money?". It was true that his role models were criminals and the way Daigo saw it, he was lucky to have learned a trade which would act as a fallback option if or when things went sour with his current business. Daigo was frustrated by this thought at first, but learned to adapt and evolve into something more...for his own sake. Luckily, Daigo's name would never show up on any official or unofficial ledger or document. He was brought in to advise the smiths on trade routes, convoys, warehouses, and smugglers with which they were unfamiliar. Daigo made sure to cover his tracks to the best of his ability.
At this point in his career, his weapon quality and the quantity in which he produced it were higher than most of the other blacksmiths. Perhaps it was his kaguya roots that gave him a leg up or maybe it was from him reading books on weapon forgery to get the best mixture of materials. Either way, he was making a decent wage and earning respect from many while continuing to smuggle small yet highly valuable materials out of the city using the convoys. On his days off, he began exploring the other units and attempted to form reliable networks of his own. In exchange for a fee, these people would go on to instruct him in their professions unofficially. He made connections in the following units: military police, elite soldiers, and the scouts. From the military police, he was taught how to investigate a crime scene thoroughly. The elite soldiers taught him how to fight while the scouts who taught him how to survey a large area and survive in various terrains. These would prove to be valuable skills necessary for Daigo's survival. A few tips here and there during mealtimes in the mess hall, during shower time, during the holidays, whenever he could do it really. He would learn a plethora of subjects in those few years, all of which he'd take to heart. He acted the role of a inquisitive youth and people bought it.
As the years went by, he grew in intelligence and muscle mass. The late hours he spent handling materials made him stronger and his training from the elite soldiers proved very useful. In combination with his clan’s dead bone pulse fighting style, he found himself enjoying the powers with which he was blessed. The whispers of an upcoming war between two countries traveled across the land, wetting the appetite of the blacksmiths. War meant money and they could always use more of that. It also meant a boost in profits, assuming that they could smuggle goods to the supposed countries in exchange for a hefty fee. Even Daigo’s parent’s supported it through their letters. Although he grew tired of the social facade he had elected, he knew he had to play the role for his own sake. Starting up the flames, he continued his work both within his unit and outside his unit to be well rounded as it was his goal.
During this chapter of Daigo's life, he went to visit his cousin, Daisuke, along with his aunt and uncle with special permission. During their return home, Daigo became sidetracked while assisting a small animal. It would turn out to be a rather eye opening experience for him. (leads to canine contract app)
Medical apprentice in the Imperial army : Ages (14-17yrs)
Over the next few years, Daigo and Daisuke would start to write each other every now and again, informing each other of their worries and of their current business. Soon the content of their letters became solely about the upcoming war and the possible aftermath that would come of it. While Daisuke expressed concern for the people, Daigo expressed concern for his business and for his family, leaving the people out of it. Soon after that, Daisuke wrote about what he had witnessed while he was there. His letters were detailed with his medical ninja duties and that touch Daigo’s heart just a tiny bit. After receiving Daisuke’s letters for so long and feeling partly responsible for his cousin’s woes, Daigo could not help but question his own actions. Smuggling weapons, pocketing leftover funds, stockpiling raw and rare materials to be sold elsewhere, etc. The Bear Marsh war affected his world views as well. He, along with the other blacksmiths, were responsible for creating the weapons used to slay so many lives across two countries. He wondered if he was on the right path. With Daisuke’s encouragement, Daigo began looking into changing fields. The blacksmiths, his parents, and the smugglers didn’t care if Daigo left the unit and the simply found another to take his place. The routine was already set up. They had brought him in to advise the smiths on unfamiliar subjects, but after so many years, they knew the information well enough without Daigo's assistance. From that point onward Daigo was now just another worker, something that made him rather happy. There was no need in threatening him to keep his mouth shut since he’d die too if anyone ever found out. He later transferred to the medical unit within the imperial army. The application process was hard to qualify for, but given the war and the thousands wounded, they were practically begging for new members.
For the next three years of his life, Daigo would be doing grunt work for the doctors, nurses, and other medical staff. Taking medical classes most mornings, cleaning bedpans, giving sponge baths to the elderly patients, cleaning up the laboratories, running errands for the staff, learning how to treat wounds, and of course making the rounds where he would follow around a doctor who would describe a patient’s ailment then ask Daigo his opinion on how to treat it. It was damn near torture for Daigo to be so...helpful to others, but that was part of the act. He had to make others believe that he was a normal person with a genuinely compassionate side for his fellow man. Daisuke’s letters helped out as well. Daisuke was thrilled that Daigo had decided to join his ranks and offered a plethora of letters with great advice and excellent study notes to use. Daigo’s studying and Daisuke’s notes helped to make him a star within the medical unit. His superiors began to take notice to Daigo’s detail and precision when he was treating patients while supervised. His test scores began to reflect the same thing. After busting his back working hard for a good cause, he was finally promoted to become a general practitioner.
During this chapter of Daigo's life, he was sent to accompany a land convoy with special permission from the higher ups. This was due to there possibly of the escorts being injured by the local wildlife. One night during the return home, Daigo became sidetracked while assisting a small animal in retaking a large ruin. It would turn out to be a rather eye opening experience for him. (leads to feline contract app)
General practitioner in the army: Ages (17-20yrs)
Over the next three years of his life, Daigo busted his butt even harder as a general practitioner than he did as a medic in training. In prior years, it was just grunt work, but now he had to treat people more frequently and fill out a lot more paperwork than ever before. He really wanted to curse out Daisuke for tricking him into joining his profession, but ultimately it was a great disguise. Who would suspect a doctor to be damn near emotionless and possess a lack of compassion? Not many people, he thought. Daigo simply had to grin and bare it. He have to play the role of a compassionate doctor to better manipulate those around him into doing his bidding. His illness had crippled him in a way, but seeking help now would get him outed as abnormal. For the next few years, he would keep his true nature hidden away until the right person came along.
It was around this time that Daisuke began to write letters in which he gave detailed notes on chakra, jutsus, curse seals, kinjutsus, and various medical techniques. Being a ninja in Kumogakure had its advantages and Daigo wanted a small piece of that. Daisuke would go on to mail off common literature regarding the physical (agility, stamina, and taijutsu) aspects as well as the mental (ninjutsu, genjutsu, and chakra control) aspects of being a shinobi. Soon after that, Daisuke would send out packages containing instruction scrolls for various elemental jutsus. His goal was to ensure that one day, Daigo might join him permanently as a member of kumogakure. It seemed to be turning into a family tradition after all. Once Daigo picked up the literature, he could barely put them down again. All the while, he was practicing medicine. At nights or on his days off he would find an isolated place to train his body and his mind accordingly. He quickly realized that Daisuke’s training regiment was nothing like the elite warrior’s regiment. Daisuke’s letters focused on the mind and body with heavy intensity. Making the proper hand signs, matching physical effort and chakra control to perform jutsus, training each shinobi aspect everyday for hours upon hours at a time. It was difficult work, but Daigo was a natural. What took students many years to learn, Daigo managed to do in a slightly shorter amount of time. Still the friend located in a low place, he continued to perform seedy deeds for his contacts in exchange for their tutoring. His deeds would ultimately lead to their superiors recognizing them as the best choice for a promotion. It was that simply really. Daigo helped to make their careers in exchange for unofficial basic training in their unit's notable skills and responsibilities. They were getting the better end of the deal by far.
It was also during that time that Daisuke managed to inform Daigo that he would become his benefactor should be die. Those years were the most emotional for Daisuke having lost his parents and Daigo’s parents were later arrested for their crimes. Apparently, the smuggler contact got careless while conducting his business and too stingy when it was time to pay his employees, one of which was with the authorities. This lead to him falling under surveillance of the authorities. During his most recent meeting with Daisuke's parents, the authorities learned where the smuggler had been storing the contraband and subsequently had them all arrested on the spot. Having no desire to spend the rest of their lives in jail or face death, many people involved in the operation began ratting out the rest; the smuggler most of all. It stretched from the dirty security guards who patrolled the warehouses to the various merchants who knowingly purchased the contraband. Nearly everyone tried to make a deal, but there were a few who remained steadfast.
While it was a small operation, the entire ring was busted wide open. Questions regarding the origins of the raw materials and rare materials brought the military police into action. All of this was thanks to the blacksmiths who could not keep their paperwork documented correctly, the smugglers who tried to drive up prices for their own greed, the lazy employees who became careless in their work, and his moronic parents for storing the contraband in the first place. The company might have needed that income at one point in time, but the company's legit business is what made it into a prospering establishment. Now everything was falling apart. If everyone had just been happy with their cut, everything would have been fine, but people just had to be greedy and attempt to snitch to save their own skin. Thankful, Daigo was already out of that line of work for years, but he was still questioned by his officials as he was a former member of the blacksmiths. Having performed shady deeds in the past, which subsequently got all of his contacts receiving promotions, Daigo knew he could count on glowing character references from his friends. They did not do this because Daigo had managed to gather incriminating evidence against all of them. They were all unaware that Daigo even had such damning evidence in his possession. His contacts helped him because of their friendship with him. The investigation ended after months of questioning and fact checking, which was a relief to him. It was at that time that Daigo decided it was time to leave this military career behind, but there was just one time thing he had to do. He had to ensure that this situation never happen again. He called upon the contacts he originally made while in the blacksmiths one last time and asked for them to pull a few favors so that his transfer to the military police was assured. It was without a doubt unusual to have bounced around so many units in his lifetime, but seeing as he was constantly being down played as a lowly smith with ambitions of higher station, the higher-ups allowed it.
Military police or equivalent: Ages (20-21yrs)
After pulling a large amount of strings, Daigo managed to finish out his career as an entry level military police officer. In actuality, the higher ups couldn’t prove that Daigo had anything to do with illegal smuggling of goods from the blacksmith unit and thus they placed him in military police so that they could spy on him more easily. While they could have just killed him there and then, it would only spark more negative press. Questions involving the level of competence possessed by the higher-ups would be made and that just could not happen. Daigo knew full well that was the case and knew it was time to leave this all behind. It was a miracle that he managed to get out of this with his life. Daigo would spend his last year receiving secret security clearance, learn the purpose of the military police, which was to maintain law, order, and discipline by enforcing military laws and regulations, prevent crime, and respond to all emergencies. They reluctantly trained him in basic warrior skills, use of firearms/weapons, Military/civil laws and jurisdiction, investigation and evidence collection techniques, crowd control skills, arrest and restraint of suspects.
By the end of the year, Daigo was by the grace of Raiden honorable discharged and gladly left the imperial army. With the smuggler’s operation ruined, his parent’s arrest, and his military career over, Daigo felt as though he had no purpose. Since the arrest, their branch of the merchant business was being investigated for suspicious activity so Daigo could not find work there. Thankfully, he possessed a few things which could earn him a decent living. First, he had his skills as a blacksmith and all the knowledge that came with it. Second, he had his medical skills and all the knowledge that came with it. Third, he managed to regain the merchant business’s frigate style ship which was normally used to transport goods to other ports. The frigate was considered the backbone of any naval force. It was a well rounded vessel that combined good speed and agility with impressive offensive and defensive capabilities. A proud ship indeed. Daigo would make this his own ship and the captain’s quarters his home.
From Blacksmith & Privateer: Ages (21-22yrs)
Over the next three months, Daigo worked as a blacksmith in a few small towns of little importance. He made mostly hoes, metal rakes, machetes and scythes for cutting down their crops, horseshoes, etc. Barely ever was he asked to make a weapon. Realizing that he wasn’t going to make a decent living in these small towns, he spent the next three months at sea as a privateer, all the while sending letters of his woes to Daisuke. Being a sennin at the time, Daisuke managed to offer Daigo a legitimate cloud citizenship opportunity. This meant that upon arrival, he could become a full fledged cloudie. Given that he had financial struggles, the merchant company in Kelmura was still under investigation, and his military career was at an end, Daigo accepted rather quickly. If anything, cloud possessed fine minerals which he could use to help him build up a decent career as a blacksmith. Creating unique weapon could be his game and if all else failed, he could become a mednin. His options were laid out before him and his path was set once again. Well Daigo could admit that it would be good to see his cousin again, he was not thrilled about meeting new people, then developing a more sociable persona with which he would use to manipulate others around him.
And thus began his trek to kumogakure. He followed every instruction written down in his letters and upon his arrival he was greeted by his cousin. Daigo informed his relative about the investigation and of his parent’s crimes, which was not surprising to Daisuke. His relatives were always sneaky in one way or another. The bonehead did his cousin the courtesy of allowing him to room with him briefly, just until the court hearings were over. As such, Daigo had to work off his debt by working part time at Daisuke’s free clinic. Moving to cloud and joining the hospital as a general practitioner was nice, but rather brief. Soon however, he had grown to love cloud just as much as Daisuke did, though Daigo usually had to make frequent trips out of the village to court hearing held in the Capital city. As such, Daigo never really got to explore kumogakure all that well. He was only familiar with the hospital and Daisuke’s home.
Present: Ages (22-24yrs)
After several years under investigation, Daigo’s Kelmura merchant branch was finally cleared of all charges. Relieved that the whole mess was cleared up, Daigo made his way back towards cloud when he met a group of strange individuals to this day he has kept a secret. After two years as a low level medic during Shinrya Kitsune's absence, Daigo found the job dissatisfying and requested to leave the branch. He took with him everything Daisuke taught him about medicine that he did not learn while in the army. Now he resides in cloud as a ninja, but seeks something better.
During this chapter of his life, he met a woman who would go on to tutor him in the arts of ninjutsu. For a single year, Daigo would have a teacher. The woman would not reveal the origins of her knowledge or what her intentions were, but she would state that she was from cloud village. (Leads into Kinjutsu app)
Originally born in Port Cirrus, the famous port city to the southwest of Kumogakure, Daigo grew up in an extended family. He lived with his parents, aunts, and uncles in a decent sized home which was slowly falling into disrepair despite their best efforts.
