Kato huddled inside the small cave, huddled up to the warmth of his fire. With this freak storm raging outside, he wasn't going any deeper into the desert... or back out for that matter. Basically he was just stuck out here with nowhere to go, and his food running low... again. It was odd, for someone who loved food so much, Kato seemed to have an awfully hard time keeping it around. It was weird how that worked.
The boy let out a deep sigh and tossed a branch he had been twisting between his fingernails into the fire. He glanced over at his small bundle of supplies. He ended up pulling out the map he had acquired from the captain, hoping to plan a route through the desert, but it was little help beyond telling him which direction he needed to head to reach different countries. He reached into his bag, looking for nothing in particular, when he hands wrapped around the old leaf headband that had once been worn by his father.
He still wished he could've known the man. There was so much everyone had expected Kato to live up to. his father, Ryuukin had left such a powerful legacy in Kato's hands, and the boy had never gotten the chance to fulfill that legacy. But that's why he was in the desert. it was time to redeem himself. He would track down his family, and make things right. He could still do proud by Ryuukin's legacy. The Akimichi then tucked the headband into his belt, tying it so the metal plate hung against his thigh when he stood. Kato may have never earned his own headband officially, but without it he looked like a weak victim. An easy target.
Wearing his father's headband would give Kato credibility, and if he was ever to manage finding the hidden Sand village, maybe showing himself to be a former leaf-nin would help create diplomatic connections. Or at least it might prevent any unwanted attention from not-so-friendly strangers. He knew in Leaf it had never been an overly warm welcoming party to most unidentified foreigners.
