Like so many shinobi before him, Kei used the Chakra Induction Paper to divine his elemental affinity. Holding a crumpled piece of paper between a pair of outstretched fingers, he was then equipped with the knowledge of his inherent element. He possessed a knack for Ninjutsu in general. Learning Lightning-style techniques and fighting with them eventually evolved into a fighting style for him. As the style became second nature, he began to share a certain, subtle likeness with the element he wielded. It appeared to share its celerity with him the more he utilized the element and at other times, he was able to execute techniques quicker than he usually could.

A large portion of his childhood was spent being unknowingly subjected to terrifying, horrific Genjutsu cutesy of his older brother. Such was done via trickery as he drifted off to sleep. For far too long, Kei only perceived them as nightmares; bad or very strange dreams. Though, after a while, he dreaded being in them. His training against Genjutsu began far before he knew that he was even fighting against them. While there were many times he willfully wished to escape the jailing illusions, he was never successful. Though afterwards, during the days of the academy and after his hellish ordeal, he gained enough understanding to not only learn about the Cancel technique, but to work at it until he was able to bring it to new heights. His motivation grew and he only needed to think back to the not-too-distant past to attain more to succeed.

The moment the hints of such a thing revealed themselves was the moment Kei discovered his brother’s cruel actions towards him. Even though Kei had yet to act, yet to move or make a sound, his parents and his brother all abruptly ceased their conversations and turn to Kei. The air within the room changed, paved grand patches of skin with an endless stretch of goosebumps and hairs that could not help but stand on end. He was ushered out of the room with the gentle hand of his mother. After that, when Kei’s training became difficult and his mettle became taxed, he noticed he settled into ‘the zone’ with an intensity sourced with determination. It is less an ability gained and more an ability discovered.

Kei took to the academy well. He appeared to have explosive growth with the introduction of various concepts and ideas in regards to shinobi, their techniques and their fighting styles. Despite his dry attitude, he does revere them for their coolness. They’re just cool, he would often say when questioned about it. This motivated his parents to offer him some tutorage. Working with a drive that opened his mind to quick learning, they helped him with his movements, his physical combat and divined his strengths and weaknesses quickly. Instead of attempting to cultivate a great degree of physical prowess, they caught him to seize opportunities to retaliate when he is able to evade incoming assails.

Perhaps an inkling of Kei’s hidden power - regardless of what it is, he has become able to temporarily draw it forth. It can be seen as a burst of adrenaline, a leaking of something powerful that stirs within or a flux of both. It was not so much as trained for, but did come to fruition during organized spars between the students at the academy. When he felt that greater focus was required to demonstrate what he had learned during his schooling thus far, he found himself more and more able to delve deep within in but an instant and take hold of a jarring burst of energy and lightness that greatly helped with his movements. Kei found that he could only tap into such a thing every so often and only a handful of times before a large amount of time had to pass to allow him to be able to perform the feat once again.

Kei found greater fascination in producing the magical feats ninja refer to as Ninjutsu than anything else. This propelled him into trainings and learnings that were relevant to utilizing chakra, the fuel of said feats. At least at home, he was known as a bit of a prodigy for how quickly he was able to learn various shinobi-relevant things. While he did have trouble with offensive physical combat and delivering projectiles to their intended targets, his practices soon led to the ability to produce techniques with exactly the chakra required - no more and no less. While most used a fraction more than they had to, Kei quickly came to employ them efficiently with the exact amount needed.
