Only a few days past when she began at the academy and she already had her first assignment. TO say that the girl was excited would be quite the understatement. Many steps were skipped and tunes hummed as she made her way to the designated administration where the mission's details would be given to her. Unfortunately her high hopes had been summarily squished. What she expected to be an undertaking of epic proportions turned out to be a job to fetch some jewelry from the bottom of the Undersea.
Thankfully she rather liked to swim; recalling upon days in the summer when she was an even smaller girl in the northern lands when she and her friends would hang around the lakes which dotted the countryside. Even still, that little fact did not help to raise her spirits too much and after a long walk by her house to change into her swimming attire she set off towards the watery jewel of Sunagakure, the Undersea.
While she never regained her full measure of spring to her step, the journey towards the Undersea from her home did lift her spirits a modest measure. Sure it wasn't rescuing ladies or lords, delivering messages of utmost important or confronting demons, but at least she would be able to survive this job. She was getting paid to just do some swimming! How awesome was that?
Upon her arrival at the shore she had shown one of the officials manning a station there her mission orders and she was a little surprised when she was given the use of a small boat and a rebreather. It turned out she never had considered how far down she might need to swim in order to reach the Lady Aurora's wreckage, but perhaps that was part of the reason she wasn't out fighting the non-existent dragons. With a grateful bow she eventually made her way to the makeshift pier and the pre-teen was rowing out towards the crystalline structure that the mission request had designated at the spot where the ship had sank.
Unfortunately the mask was a little large for her small head and she had to use the straps to affix it rather tightly in order to make sure no water would leak in. With only minor difficulty she managed to get the diving gear readied, thanks to the quick instructions the jounin had provided her as she had departed the docks. Finally with a loud plop she heaved the hefty iron anchor overboard as she made one final check of the uncomfortable mask.
After waiting what felt like an eternity the rope that attached the boat to the anchor finally stopped being tugged further and further into the water. She gave herself a satisfied nod and with an even louder splash she fell face first into the water as she mistakenly attempted to leap out of the boat, which only caused the boat to move backwards rather than moving her forwards. With that bit of embarrassment behind her she took a moment to bob on the water, her cheeks slightly flush from both shame and annoyance, though lack of any others nearby helped to settle those emotions rather quickly.
Miraculously the rest of the mission proceeded rather smoothly... mostly. She used the anchor line as a guide to swim herself down to the spot to find that the sunken boat was only a dozen yards away. Expeditiously enough she swam herself over and rummaged through the waterlogged vessel until she found the box that had been described. However as she was swimming her way out of the ship a star bar snagged onto her mask and tugged on it just enough to cause a flood of water to poor into it.
A few moments of panic surged through her, almost causing her to abandon her objective, but thankfully old swimming instinct kicked in enough for her to swim her way out of the vessel. Once outside she made a mad swimming dash towards the top. With a splash she popped her head out of the water and within a few more moments had peeled the mask off her face with a loud air gasping breath. She continued to bob there in the water for almost a minute as the adrenaline in her blood began to subside and the fear of drowning was replaced by a proud euphoria. Donning a wide grin she swam her way over to the boat, tossed the box in and climbed herself inside with little further issue. She allowed herself to collapse backwards along the length of the boat, that wide grin still on her face even as her heir matted itself to her head. It wasn't a demon or a dragon, but she had survived life threatening peril and survived with the objective in hand! The victory was not a great one, but for this budding little shinobi it surely did feel like one.
