Haruka is a thin girl with a bandaged left arm and long, dark hair; she stands at 160 cm (5'4") and weighs 52 kg (114.6 lbs). She's surprisingly healthy-looking for someone who lives alone at her age, with a bright smile and deep ruby eyes, although her face is somewhat pointed. Faint burns shade her chin, no more than slight blotches of smoothness against her pale complexion. Her wardrobe communicates very directly that her favorite color is red: though she wears a variety of hand-me-downs from neighbors mixed with interesting finds from local stores, the only common theme is that she'll always be clad in something to match her eyes.
Character's Mental Description: Haruka has a warm yet reserved air about her, preferring quieter company if she prefers it at all. She is a young woman of few words, and much more the type to think through her decisions than act on them decisively, often making her uncomfortable in rushed or urgent situations. She is naturally content inside her own head, although it's become so familiar to her that she's grown to enjoy the unexpected. Her trust is not easily earned and not easily lost. She is an enormous pet person as well, volunteering to care for her neighbor's cat Puffin, dutifully leaving food outside her back door for strays, and greeting each and every dog she passes on walks.
Character History: Haruka never knew her parents; like many on their mission, they never returned, presumed dead or missing. She lived in an orphanage for the first half of her life, surrounded by children exactly like her where personal space was only real during the nighttime. If an uncommunicative personality was hers from birth, this span of her life reinforced it threefold- despite the best efforts of the caretakers, competition was encouraged, and the assertive often got what they wanted.
It was clear to nobody when her chakra first manifested, not even Haruka herself; it began subtly, a convenient forgetfulness afflicted on an older kid, a cup refilled with water without standing up. When she was seven years old, she had figured out how to direct people's attention away from her enough that sneaking around became a regular habit. That was how she was eventually caught coaxing a stray cat inside with Genjutsu. When higher-ups in the village received word of her gift for chakra, she was enrolled to start in the Academy the same year- in the meantime, housing was arranged for her and she was taught to live alone on government support.
As sudden as the shift was, Haruka was glad to be free of the orphanage, and she began leaning into her studies at the Academy. She was supported by her kindly neighbor who taught her to cook, checked in on her, and served as one of the first adults to pay attention to her alone; though sometimes unexpressed, she holds a special place in her heart for her neighbor. She discovered more of her natural talent through her education, and often continued exploring her limits and creativity of jutsu outside of the classroom. The bandaged arm and scarred chin first appeared when she was twelve, just outside of the Genin exams- she doesn't like to talk about them very much. It seems that whatever happened to cause them still makes her bitter.
