Name: Ekirei, Kokai
Age: 9
Physical Description: A rather normal-looking boy for his age, Kokai is built slim and tall, standing at 140cm and weighing around 36kg. His brown hair cut close to his head, Kokai enjoys having to do very little work in order to look good. With fairly average looks, still too young to develop truly striking features, Kokai is a face to lose in the crowd. For clothing, Kokai wears a brown wool jacket in order to keep him warm, with a comfortable, easy to wear pair of shorts. Black athletic shoes adorn his feet.
Mental Description: Due to spending much of his childhood on his own accord, Kokai is incredibly used to doing what he wants, when he wants. He is also quite laid back and in many situations just prefers to go where the wind may take him. There is a general aloofness to his personality that rubs some people the wrong way, but he doesn’t really care. His usual response to criticism is either complete disregard or a snarky remark. Some people claim that his general apathy towards others and his sarcastic attitude are marks of his own arrogance, and those people would be right. Kokai has an exceptionally high opinion of himself, especially for one from an orphanage.
History: Ekirei Kokai was born on a cold, snowy day in the mountains of Tsuchi no Kuni, to two relatively unknown villagers from an unknown area. The cold caves proved harsh to the impoverished family, without money for residence in a village as well as lacking any skills that could earn them a job. The father hunted and fished in the valleys between the mountains, while the mother took care of Kokai and attended to other matriarchal duties. Life was hard for the family, but Kokai lived through the winter to greet the calming showers of Spring.
On the eve of the coming fall, Kokai now nearly half a year old, a tragedy struck the family. The father, the main provider of the family as well as the main protector, left to hunt before the snow began to fall, but never returned to the cave. Not knowing where the man had gone to, after having been gone for more than a day, the mother began to grow nervous. She knew she could not take care of a child as well as herself, she set off to the closest village she could get to; Iwagakure.
It was unknown to Kokai, for this moment and the rest of his life, that his mother and father were Nuke-Nin from Sunagakure; two traitors that had released secrets to an enemy group, resulting in the death of nearly a dozen capable Suna-nin. Rather than waiting for their trial, and execution, the two fled to a place they could live in solitude. Rather than go to another village, such as Konoha or Kumo, they chose the mountains as they were nearly desolate of people.
However, with the disappearance of the father, Kokai's mother chose to turn to Iwa in hopes she could still live under-the-radar. In the month of August, right before the winter-front emerged from the sea to clothe the land in snow, Kokai became an unlicensed citizen of Iwagakure. His mother worked many jobs to support herself and her child, including seedier professions as well as legitimate ones. She left Kokai in his own care, little more than a newborn, in a cold and empty shanty inside the slums.
Around the eve of Kokai's second birthday, his mother received an invitation she could not refuse; return to Suna to face punishment, and be wiped of her sins to the village. The only stipulation was, that she may only come alone, to ensure she has complete faith in the village. Deciding to come alone, she sadly left her son in the care of an orphanage, run by the village itself.
Kokai never grew to see his mother again, her never returning to take him back, and Kokai was raised under the busy hands of the caretakers. However, he spent little time there beyond age 7, and began adventuring around on his own to entertain himself. He ran through the streets and alleys of Iwa, looking through bins and boxes left out to see what they contained. Kokai was fascinated by the things he found, everything from books, to broken tools, and even scrolls that included numerous teachings on Ninjutsu. However, Kokai knew little of how this worked, and gave up on trying to understand the theory behind many of the workings of chakra.
At age nine, Kokai was given a choice; be moved to a private-owned orphanage and begin regular schooling, or enroll in Iwagakure's Academy. Not wanting to choose a boring, fulfilling life, he chose to enroll to study to become a Genin.
