OC: No worries, my father and grandfather worked corrections as warden and lieutenant my childhood -- their schedules were more wacky than mine.

Shiori came from a time before the first men. A time when there was only earth and wind and sky. A time when life was breathed into these elements because they were what came from the mire, and the sky and the dark. But even they were not the first, they were simply what came after something even older than they and surely what preceded her flushed out what came before them. Life might be cyclical for a species as redundancies are had but not between eras, something she had only recently come to realize. She, much like the scattered few left of her kind were never intended to be here and they were out of place. Their 'magic' was replaced with human jutsu and they demanded of the elements with their energies and their hands what they would command with a word. Time and injury had stolen from her much of what made her unique over the years as she desperately took into herself elements that she was not... that she could
never be in an effort to resurrect what she had lost, discarding what she had left of herself in the process. One such thing she relinquished was
Homura's Flame -- that trace of him she had tasted in a human so long ago [Chikara - former PC hybrid] and relinquished that along with the fire and passion she had stolen from so many victims. But there were a great many things she did not know, for one she knew that Kaen was already some sort of hybrid but she wrongly assumed he was like Senju Kazuki, that somewhere along his family bloodline there was an Ancient and this seed lingered latent for generations before it was spied by another Ancient. That was not the case here, he was not a natural Ancient, he was
created.
Kaen was a unique case, however, he was not like the likely hundreds of humans that possessed a lingering thread from one of the courts, he was more like an incomplete Soverign. Kaen was of course a child or a young teen when it happened, when they 'experimented' on him. Did he ever hear them say what they were putting in him? Why it hurt so much? Eventually that pain would have went away, it would not have become a dull ache but rather a blissful experience. Something a certain ANBU Captain had already discovered, but both were unique specimens in relation to each-other. Kaen, unlike Roku was incomplete. Perhaps Shiori was able to give him enough, enough to make him more Ancient than human. There was an angry, jealous and fearful part of her than wanted to eradicate the human parts in him and perhaps that emotion was also translated in the kiss. She held onto him, despite the searing sensation she could feel on her palms and through her dress. He felt as if he would spontaneously burst into flames but he did not even as he tried to pull away. From her lips and maw to his own so many intangible threads would depart only to impart themselves onto Kaen. She would feel him getting hotter but she would only tighten her grip despite the pain she felt until the transference was complete.
When the kiss broke and she relinquished her grip, the comparatively cold air was welcomed.
She forgot how hot their fires burned. It was a dim, dizzying sensation that left a part of her feeling empty. She had given him power that was not her own from a portfolio she would never...
could never use but she was used to it sitting here like a rock in the put of her gut. She did not realize how much they betrayed her nature until they were gone, how they made her
feel. She was always angry, she had lost too much to feel otherwise but there was a passion behind that anger that was gone now. The world felt dull, only in shades of grey, except when she looked at him. Was he always so...
red? She could not be sure. She took a step back, several in fact until she bumped into a wall. She wanted to look at him, take him all in but the heat that radiated off of him was intense.
"...brother-flame?" There was the inflection of a query in her voice as she said that. No, there is no way she would know that.
"How do you feel?"</B><i></i>
He had a question of his own.
"Who are you..."</B><i></i>
Didn't he already know the answer? She furrowed her brow as she gave a single word as reply,
<B>"...Suna." She was nothing like the books or the legends that surrounded her legacy. Humans had a strange habit of romanticizing what she was and how she helped the first men once free from the shackles of their Ancient masters because of the boon she gave to the Sunahoshi progeny of Primus. It was centuries ago, after the fall of Homura and Fuujin at Godsfall, the turning point in the war that would seal Ancient's fate as an extinct species. Their leader, a former gladiator from the Flame Court, Primus led the slave revolt. He was a strong man by human standards but he should not have been able to face off against either Lord alone and be able to defend himself, nevermind defeat either or in this case
both in a two-on-one battle. She would not realize until later that it was Shoki that Primus wielded, the great equalizer that ensured the progression of eras.
</I>He did not know anything did he? Did he grow up in a box?
<i></i>
<B>"Can you control your flame?" Shiori asked, the aura of heat that radiated off of him was intense.
"Your passion, speficially your aggression is what makes your flame burn the hottest." Even she had concern that he might burn her alive inadvertently. Even for an assumed halfbreed, he was rather powerful
before she gave him what remnants of the Flame Court she could find within her own being.
"Do you know what you are?" She would ask as she approached, even if the heat diminished the air about him would like like as if she walked into a sauna.
"Your heritage can be traced back to the Flame Court, all the way back to Homura himself," she announced. She was of course
partially wrong in her assessment, she did not know that he was made this way but even still the Flame Court was a part of his very essence so even if she knew the truth that would not change what she saw in him. There was of course the matter that he survived the instillation, a mystery she had still not quite solved.
Why do some survive and get stronger like him while others wither and rot away? "I lived in a time before the races of men and I remember the races of the first men. What came before men were Ancients, such as myself." She took a seat on the edge of the bed. Tomes spoke of Ancients as tyrants and as gods, but they were neither. In fact if someone were to truly liken them to a mythological figure they would have been better associated with they fey.
"I am not sure when your family line came gained Homura's Court... <I>Strange in fact.." she seemed to ponder an unspoken curiosity.
"I never knew him or his court to... be such sexual deviants," she commented. It was the truth, human sex was considered disgusting by most Ancients with the fluid sharing and the prolonged proximity. Well, there was that and the fact that having sex with some Courts, such as the flame sort, would be like having sex with a
radiator.
"It is a testament to your ancestors that they survived." She let out a sigh,
"and I suppose that it is my burden to also tell you that you are the last. Whatever threads of heritage I have given you plus your own natural basic heritage is all that is left of the Flame Court. Your brothers have all been eradicated by the Rangers years ago."
If he was willing to listen she would tell him the story of what Ancients were. Of what she believed he was. Of what she did to him. By nature the Earth Court was not a Court of deception, perhaps if she was a denizen of the Deep Court she would have twisted this moment into something else but that was not the way of her court and of her nature.
"Do you know what Ancients are?" Assuming not, she would continue.
"They preceded man by well over a millennia and came after a time of gods," the irony of her statement did not escape her as she remembered the stories she heard of these titans they had pushed into oblivion. Comparatively they like gods to them but like Ancients probably seemed like gods to humans.
"Well, beings more powerful than we were but despite the disparity in power we pushed them into oblivion in the dawn of our time. The first Ancients, such as myself all came from the elements themselves, raw and unadulterated. I came from the earth, Homura the bowels of the earth, Mikaboshi the darkness, Fuujin the sky, Orochi from a hunter's intent, and so many others. The sea and the storm, the plants and the heart, they all had life here in wind country and it was through this spontaneous creation of life we were born without mothers and immediately at odds with the titans that came before us. We destroyed the beings that came before us and these lands became our kingdom. That was until the first men came. They came from lands outside of our borders or we believe they had. Insufferably weak but numerous they became laborers, servants and gladiators for the varied courts. Some humans on rare occasion were even welcomed and treated as fellow Ancients but such was rare during those times. It was then that we discovered what humans were, that they had something us Ancients lacked. Their soul... their essence was very much unlike our own and it empowered us. So we ate our fill. We ate to excess, Lords such as myself." Perhaps she was admitting to her sins, in a way she was but she did not admit to all of them.
"Eventually there was an uprising, it was not the first but it would prove to be the last. Led by a former slave from your Court -- Primus, he rallied the nomadic tribes that were not under our rule as well as the slaves of the Solar and Flame Court as well as several lesser known Courts and declared war. They were losing until Godsfall where Primus brazingly called upon Lord Fuujin and Lord Homura to fight him in a two-on-one battle that he boasted would forever end this war. Primus mortally wounded Homura and Fuujin both and although Primus too died from grievous wounds inflicted onto him with the death of the two most powerful Ancients to have ever lived by a single hand, the tribes of men rallied and the trepidation of the warring Ancients caused their bones to quake. As the Ancients fled, the tribes of man took most of them. Those that survived the battle that day were subsequently hunted by human Rangers, an early Order fostered by humans for primarily game hunting that eventually specialized to become an order that hunted all matter of creature including my kind and even allegedly supernatural beasts. They eventually turned on neutral courts such as my own and the Deep Court, eradicating what was left of the Ancient race doing so." Obviously she survived but it was not because of humanity's misguided love for her.
How did she survive? She fought them off. She cursed the Sunahoshi line by giving them a boon much like Kaens but with a different intent. Then she
died.
"I have taken it onto myself to find the last vestiges of my people, such as yourself and allow you to realize the glorious heritage within you." They were something better than human. Something that would endure longer than man if given the chance. Something that could undo the damages Shoki had wrought. She did not require a champion, her people did and she would make them one by one if she had to.
TLDR;
Shiori assumes Kaen was a half-breed Fire Ancient (like Kazuki with the Deep Court) and she is right but also wrong. Kaen was made into a hybrid through science not the procreation of his ancestors but it is likely that he has something 'special' in his blood that made it possible to survive the process but his process was not complete (Roku's was). The Soverign are more like sponges that absorb Ancient essence, Kaen is more like a hybrid whose human essence has been partially replaced (unnaturally) by this Flame Court Essence and Shiori is literally trying to burn out more of Kaen's humanity giving him Chikara's essence (because he was a hybrid direct line from Homura) making him more Flame Court Ancient than man. The only 'rule' (because all Ancients have a rule) is a love for battle but this can be sated through sparring, real fights, watching fights, etc. CREATIVITY IS KEY! If this is something that is uncomfortable, claim it did not work or whatever. I am all about everyone being happy with what they are and what they are doing.
