Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The time had come. The students were ready for their exam and she was ready for their arrival any minute. The letters had been sent out in an organized fashion. Each letter had been written on a light sheet of parchment, sealed with a special jutsu that once opened, after 5 minutes, would burn to ashes. The envelope was a completely blank, aside from the name that had been written to the intended party. She had personally delivered the letters to assure they would go to the right person, and not be pilfered by someone more curious than their own good. She could personally say she was excited to see what this group would bring, because she had heard of much potential. Kimi, the winner of the student tournament, and Chi the girl who had given her one hell of a fight. Sabaku, whom Megami believed had much untapped potential, a student she wanted to see go far, and be a mentor to if possible. Kei was the one she hadn't heard much of specifically, but that did not mean he still couldn't surprise her. The students were given in their letters a simple address, specifying that they were to arrive at the Cage of Rubies at 6pm, where a guard would escort them to the formal ballroom. None were aware of who else would be attending, unless they had divulged such a thing to each other prior to their arrival. They were to come dressed in casual clothing, but were told to bring a set of luggage containing outfits ranging from formal and casual, to sleeping and black out. They were not instructed as to why this would be necessary, but they would all soon find out. Upon entrance, the letter also explained the instructions they were supposed to follow. Introduce yourself by giving your first name and which division you were aiming to be apart of in the branch. No signature was attached to the letter, but those that signed up would be aware of it's intention.

It had spent several days prior for the preparation needed for this sort of exam to be prepared. After commandeering a large wing of the Cage of Rubies for the use of the exam, she had prepared several rooms, set up to accomplished the overall execution of what she had in store for the students. This exam was certainly going to be a challenge, and she wanted to see how well they had picked up on skills she had learned from their classes. She herself had arrived early, to finish up some final preparations. She was dressed in sort of casual clothes, as she would be a simple observer in the long run of this, and there wasn't much need for her to be visible. She wore a simple black tank top, black leather gloves, and some black cargo pants to match. Around her neck was a necklace she wore, that took the form of a diamond studded lightning bolt. Not much stood out about her in particular other than the all black attire. To assist her with this exam, she had called in one other Guardian to play the role of a butler. The Guardian of Shadows would be playing a butler to the esteemed guest that the students were all about to meet.

She stood in the middle of the grand ballroom, in front of a grand stairwell they led to an upper level of rooms. The room was an eggshell white, illuminated by nothing but dim lit chandeliers that consisted of so many that it filled the room with a warm yellow glow. On the walls were several gorgeous paintings depicting rumored myths and legendary battles. Columns circled the lower foundation of the room, each with unique carvings and decorum that reflected just how much wealth and detail had been put into this particular building alone. As she looked around the room, she was about to confer with several of the staff members that worked in the Cage of Rubies that she was paying to assist with this event. "Sector A, is the upper floor ready?" A pause over the private frequency before she received a quick positive reply. "Sector B, is the kitchen prepped and chefs standing by?" Another positive radio in came back. "Is the dining hall ready?" She would radio this to Shadow. As an acting butler, he would take his name to play the role he was assigned, so as not to go by a Guardian title, nor by his own name. However, she left the name itself up to his discretion. As she waited for him to radio back, she checked the clock and noticed that it was 5:45. The students would arrive soon. She believed that Shadow would do his job to the best of his ability, which meant they would all be ready. "We're ready for them. Open the doors." Now it was just a matter of waiting for them to arrive.

And it would come to pass that the dawning of what would be a string of examinations for Guardians and ANBU would begin. Souji had his own few setup for the future exams that he would be running. Though this, this was one he took time out of his schedule for. He was going to be giving in to this. He could not try enough to get things done and to move himself into a better notion with the abilities that he had been given. He was here to see off smoe of the brightest in the academy that took the initiative to sign up to move forward with their lives in accordance to the branch of Guardian and ANBU. The Branch of Special Operatives. This would be a test of their mental ability... this would be something that if they indeed passed that Souji would feel the utmost pride in seeing. Lately he had been changing... becoming more open and easier to come out of his shadows and involve himself with how things should be going. Souji knew that if he would ever earn his place as an elite in the village he would have to learn more from the people around him. For him to be more respected as a Guardian he would have to make more of an effort to be in the public eye. He had to let others know who he was and how strong of a personality he had.

So he was asked to be apart of this examination by Lightning, which sent his mind into a race. She gave him the specifics, and he would dress the part. Taking out his attire, black suit, black vest, and white undershirt with a matching black bow tie. He wore these white gloves and had his favorite pair of low strength glasses on and with that he'd be set. His hair managed itself, and he was very hygienic, so of course he was clean. Tonight though, he would go over his limits. He wanted to try things out for size if he used his tap dancing skills he learned early on in his story... And in the midst of the largely known 'Cage of Rubies' he'd stand on the second level of the dining area above the long table with its messy and empty contents...

"Jeden ... Dva ... Tři ...", and there he was tapping away, the symphony playing within his mind, the violins yearning as the viola seemed to keep the pace. One out of the bunch seemed to keep up with his tapping. And as he went his hair would sway with every motion, his body would move to the motion of the music within him. He was ready, he was more than ready he was so ready that when 'ready' was born that 'ready' wasnt even ready to be ready for how ready Souji was. Indeed it was a good day to be ready. Launching himself from the ledge after tossing his glasses in a parallel direction, Souji would flash through handseals and create an army of clones [Resurrection Technique: Corpse Soil - B-Rank Ninjutsu - Instead of Dead Bodies they are clones of the Souji] They would begin working on the room setting up every delicate detail and arising to the challenge of getting everything Lightning asked for in order. There was something grand about the night. Souji would be getting a look at the latest in those who would be appearing in the charts as Candidates and other such things.

As he heard the sweet sovereign tone of the Sennin chiming through the headset, and as Souji would land to the ground the Clones were done with their work. The elegance of this setup would be remembered forever, and with that he could tap his headset and speak with confidence as the clones would dissipate into shadows and submerge themselves back into Souji's own shadow. "~//~ Lightning-sama, yes. The dining area is completely cleaned and ready.~//~", and with that he'd lean back and watch his glasses fall behind him sliding across the floor for a moment as he thought to himself, 'Shit, I was off on my calculations...', shaking his head he would brush off his clothing and take the specks off the ground before cleaning them with a handkerchief then, placing them back on his face before standing proudly awaiting the arrival of the students and awaiting any further direction from his Sennin... who in fact looked most stunning on the night but he could never tell her that directly right? It was bad. What if she decked him for taking a liking to her appearance. Oh well... Oh well forbidden fruit if you would. Though he couldnt help but think about it from time to time. Hmph, oh fate how you taunt those with dreams and wonders~ never being able to know the end before the beginnings even begun to stir... Either way, Souji knew that tonight was a big night and he had to be completely on his A-game... To help as he needed to help to stir a mess as he needed to. He was the right hand of the Sennin and he woul smack anyone who wanted to step yo!

Kei went over the contents of the letter one more time in his mind, thankful for his good memory as the letter itself had burned to ash shortly after he finished reading it. He wasn't sure what to think about this whole thing. For one, the luggage requirement seemed... strange but it wasn't anything Kei didn't have in his wardrobe so he wasn't particularly worried about that. The other thing was the location, he recognized the address as being the Cage of Rubies. He wasn't sure what he was expecting but it certainly wasn't meeting there. Maybe something more along the lines of wilderness survival or the like. When it came down to it, though, he just hadn't expected the exam to be so soon. Once again, he wondered what he had gotten himself into. He wasn't even sure if he was cut out for ANBU, let alone Guardian. Still...

Kei glanced at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, white hair hanging damp from the shower in front of aqua-green eyes. For what seemed like the thousandth time he twisted his torso so he could see the black tattoo that now marked his back near his left shoulder-blade. A second mark to hide. This marking was half the reason he'd signed up for the exam in the first place- so that he'd have a chance to ask Souji what it's purpose was. Even so he was nervous, if he passed this exam he would graduate from the academy. If he passed he would be a genin and his career as a shinobi would begin. It was a daunting prospect, equally exciting and terrifying. Although this is what Kei had been working so hard for, at the same time he was still filled with self-doubt. He knew if he wanted to pass, though, he couldn't allow his doubts to get in his way. This was another chance to prove his worth to the village, whatever that may be.

Kei finished toweling off and returned to his bedroom. So much had changed in the time since he'd joined the academy it was hard to believe. Over time the small room at his uncle's house he'd been given had become more personalized. A several posters adorned the otherwise plain walls in the room, making it feel less utilitarian and more like home. It wasn't his living space though, Kei felt like he'd changed too. Not really in any drastic way, but more like he'd learned to look outwards more but also become more aware of his shortcomings. He needed to work more on confronting his issues and insecurities and not always run or ignore them. He allowed himself to fall backwards onto his cot and stared at the ceiling, both his ninjutsu and taijutsu were coming along pretty well. He wondered if any of the other finalist from the tournament would be taking the exam as well. Souji had probably invited Kimi, the two of them seemed pretty tight. Maybe Shujinko would be there too, Kei wasn't sure if Chi was interested in going Guardian/ANBU, but she'd attended the class Kei'd taken so it was a possibility. With a grim smirk he contemplated asking one of them for a one-on-one rematch. They'd probably gotten stronger since the tournament too and he wondered if he'd be able to beat them now... His thoughts again drifted to the black mark on his back. It looked like some kind of fuinjutsu but not like any he was familiar with. But if using it, whatever it was, would make Kei stronger then he'd give it a shot.

Kei levered himself off his bed, it was time for him to finish getting dressed. Even with his warping powers, Kei didn't want to risk being late. Layed out on his desk and ready for the exam were Kei's advanced guards, the part of his getup that had become almost as second nature as the pendant around his neck. as well as a belt with a few select items useful to a shinobi. He'd packed the required attire the previous night, the required "blackout" dress intrigued him. Kei couldn't complain, most of his wardrobe consisted of blacks or greys with occasional splashes of color. The formal attire was an interesting requirement as well. Perhaps it was for some sort of ceremony for the ones who passed? That seemed likely enough. Either way he went with an elegant white shirt, black slacks, tailored black vest, and a narrow black silk tie. He omitted a suit jacket, they were so hard to move in. Despite that he was only required to show up in casual wear so that's what he planned on doing. He pulled on one of his black t-shirts with Iwagakure's crest emblazoned on the front. He pulled his best off the desk and fastened it around his waist, fastening it securely. Next were his advanced guards tough black bracers and indigo that allowed him to switch between offense and defense quickly and efficiently. He double and triple checked their fastenings before pulling on a grey fur-lined coat. He pulled on his black shinobi sandals and let out a sigh. Slinging his overnight bag over his shoulder he went over a mental checklist of what he needed. Satisfied he was ready, Kei climbed out his bedroom window and landed squarely on the sidewalk. He straightened up and looked around to make sure he was clear before taking off, leaving an afterimage in his place.

Kei warped to the Cage of Rubies, seemingly arriving there first. That gave him a small satisfaction. Despite everything lately, he was still proud of his speed and wanted to become faster. He stood there a moment, before walking in.

Hoshokurai Kei. Aiming for the Guardian Branch.

[legend="[size=4]This Is It, Yo[/size]"]"Kiai!" Striking the wooden target did nothing but create a small crushing dent. It was better than when she began, when she only created dents in her hands. Sporting her gloves that she found in the attic Chi was set on training until the last minute. This wasn't the tournament, it wasn’t going to necessarily be about defeating opponents, but rather using her mind. However, this was more important than the tournament. This determined her future, and if she failed this meant her family had even more reason to believe she wasn't fit to be a Kogane. There was a lot riding on this venture, and she was as nervous as she could be. She was strong, though, and had the heart of a Phoenix on her side.
As the time drew closer she knew she had to stop training and get ready. She stood in the bathroom staring at the mirror into her own eyes as attached a special bow to her headband. This bow was something she concocted since she didn't walk around with pockets, this bow was made out of five uncharged explosive notes which were easily detached from the bow to be used. The color on the side that shows from each of them makes it so no one else knows what she had on her head. Instead of taking off the suit that she normally wore, she placed casual clothes over it. She knew she had to arrive in casual wear but her outfit more than covered the suit (except for the legs under the dress). It had been so long since she wore a dress.
She left the house with enough time to walk to the location she was meant to go, she needed time to think and try to maintain a certain train of thought. She didn't know who would be there, but she guessed anyone from the class she attended was possible. In the back of her mind she kind of hoped that Sabaku would be there, but she wasn't sure why. It didn't matter who was in the exam, though. She was confident enough to overcome whatever challenge she was presented with against whoever else was there. At the moment she had to keep one thought on her mind (it was hard mind you), and that was nothing. She wanted to keep her mind blank, she had to leave room for any and all information. She was on a mission, the most important mission of her life so far, and she had to expect anything and everything.
As she arrived at the location she felt her gloves attached to her right side and the bag slung over the same side bang against her hip. She would adjust her dress, trying to get used to wearing one again after so long. She would be happy when she could take this outfit off, or possibly burn it off. That was part of the reason she wore the outfit over her suit, in case she needed to flare up for battle. The dress she wore on top was disposable to her, and explosive notes in her bow were covered in special material to keep them from burning in her fire until she needed them. She was ready, she was set, she was… That's stupid, I'm not going to type that.
"Now that I'm here, there's no turning back. I will pass this exam, and I will become a guardian. Soon I'll be on my way to becoming Tsuchikage…" She was spotted by the guard that would guide her to the meeting location and she followed him there. Upon arrival she noticed that Kei was there already. She gave a slight nod to him to say hello, but she didn't say anything out loud in his direction. She remembered the directions of the letter. "My name is Chi, and I will be a guardian." Confidence was exuded, speaking as if she knew she would pass. It was all she could think to do in order to show that she wasn't going to back down or give in. She entered the exam a student of the village, and would leave as one of its protectors.
Well, at least in training.[/legend][legend="[size=4]OOC; 704[/size]"][/legend]

Kimi; The Siren's Calling
It was just a day like any other. The sun rose in the early morning, and would surely set as the evening drew closer. The birds sang, as did the other creatures of the wild in their own unique ways. The world turned, and as it turned, it told a story to any and all willing to listen. A story that, while usually spoke through another, was strangely devoid of interpreter. The streets of Iwagakure were filled with their typical hustle and bustle, hardly a soul noticing that the typical melody of the earth was lacking in it's audible depth. It would go all but unnoticed, such lacking an unimportant side effect to the monotonous lives of the average citizen. The world would continue turning, the wind keep it's standard blowing, the birds chirping, the waters crashing against the shore, but no music played. No, the earth's conduit played not. There were much more pressing matters to be attended. A new step forward in one girl's journey towards Teleos. It was a moment she had been training for for over a year now, studying and learning whenever and wherever she could. A lot had happened since that first night, when one Yukata Souji, Guardian of the Shadows, made himself known to her. Together they embarked on a journey that was leading them forever closer to their ultimate goal. Together, they were growing stronger.

The exam was a formality at it's base. It alone wasn't necessary for the symbolic growth in one's life. That wasn't why it was such an important moment. It was everything that led up to it, everything that the event had come to represent, that was important. All the hours spent working, training, fighting, practicing and honing skills. It was the sleepless nights spent precariously balancing schooling and music. The long days spent slaving away over some assignment that shouldn't be so difficult!...yet somehow it was. From heading out on a routine 'find the poor lost cat' mission, only to return exhausted and covered in paint, cat in tow, with glasses that would prove no longer necessary. Though they would inevitably find their way back to her possession through some rather idiotic thought process of her father's. Day after day having tea and cakes with a woman still all but foreign to her, yet so similar one could swear they were twins...if only everyone knew the truth. Long days spent in heavy training with her mentor, her violin scarred from the hours of use and abuse...much to her dislike. The multitude of broken violin strings, frayed bows, cracked bows, violin flying through the air in reckless abandon. That poor instrument really has seen a beating since Academy life began. All of these things and more came together in one crescendo - the exam.

Kimi hadn't always intended to become one of Iwagakure's elite. She had barely held high enough hopes that she could become a sub-par shinobi. The fact that she was poised to test into one of the elite groups of Iwa was almost unbelievable. Looking back, she couldn't help but be grateful to Souji for everything. It was because of him that she got a real look into where she would belong within the ranks. It was because of his guidance that she felt herself capable of performing to the standards that would be required of a Guardian of the village. Without him to guide her, she never would have considered the possibility that she could accomplish such things. He gave her confidence where she had none, showing faith in her abilities that even she couldn't quite muster. The Guardian of Shadows may have begun stepping into the light, but his young pupil had taken her first steps into a life of shadows. Her fears were eased by the knowledge that he believed in her. Her shortcomings becoming less of a worry, and more of an obstacle that she had so far succeeded in overcoming.

If she were to be completely honest, it was he that she wished had delivered her letter.

Now, that wasn't to say she didn't admire and respect the Guardian of Lightning for stepping forward and taking on that job herself. The Guardian Sennin had to have many obligations, the least pressing of which delivering letters to Academy Students looking to take their exam. Yet, the fact that she was willing to step forward and host such event for the potential new members of her branch was a comforting thought. It was an encouraging sign. If she took such an interest in the lives of the students who hadn't even officially joined her branch, she must certainly be just as involved in their growth upon joining. That was a good start to what would hopefully be a very beneficial future.

The morning sun had barely risen above the surface of the earth, yet the young female was already awake. It would have been nearly impossible for her to sleep through the myriad of unpleasant sounds that filled her home on that early morning. Her father stumbled into the house that morning...drunk...again. Of course he had to choose to indulge in his favorite past time on that day, of all days. The one day when Kimi would most benefit from a full night's sleep, well-rested for the long event that was ahead. Of course, that was too much to ask. Instead of sleeping her full night's worth, she lay fully awake, bright blue eyes staring blindly at the ceiling. She should get up and make sure her father didn't kill himself in some sort of drunken stupor, though she simply couldn't bring herself to. There were too many things going on, too many more important things that needed her attention. Like what she would wear! Okay, no, she wasn't the type to fret over her appearance like that. It was just such a stereotypical girl moment, it couldn't be passed up. In all honesty she was trying to pretend the world didn't exist; trying to find some way to close off her mind to all other sounds, and focus on preparing herself for the day ahead. Unfortunately, sleep was no longer an option. So, she instead busied herself in a different way. Packing. Should she have done so earlier? Most likely. Did she care? Most certainly not. She rushed around her organized-messy room, plucking outfits from their set places and packing them in such a specific way, there was no mistaking which outfit was which. An outfit for every occasion. That narrowed it down to all of three. A set of nightclothes, a more formal-looking dress, and a spare set of casual clothes much like the ones she was going to be wearing. Those should cover everything Lightning's letter said to bring. Stupid Guardians and their stupid letters.

Her small suitcase adequately packed, Kimi set about preparing herself for the day's events. She spent longer than usual on her hair, combing through the long strands. Logic said she should have pulled it back in her standard fighting braid, but she didn't. Really, she just felt like letting her hair fall free on that particular day, though she was sure to put some hair ties into her suitcase, as well as her brush. If there was going to be heavy combat, she needed to be prepared. As such, her hair framed her face in just the right way, though her eyes were half hidden from view. Most would have been bothered by this, though Kimi didn't even notice. The feeling didn't bother her, so why should she care if her long locks obscured her unused eyes from view. It made her feel slightly mysterious. It was a pleasant thought. She paused by her desk for a moment, before reaching out and putting the thin-framed glasses into their case, and shoving it carelessly into her suitcase as well. Why, if they served no purpose, did she still take them with her? Especially when she spent the majority of her life refusing to wear them mostly on principle? For the irony of it, of course! Whether the frames would find their way onto her face at some point over the course of the evening was yet to be determined. But the option was there. Which was good.

If Kimi had been thinking about it from a typical female point of view, she would have gotten herself dressed before doing her hair. Not being a typical female, however, that thought hadn't even crossed her mind. As such, it wasn't until her hair was at it's perfection - a combed, mostly straight, tamed mess - that she would begin to sort out her outfit. After much deliberation (which is to say, five minutes of thought) she pulled on her plain black shirt. It was a typical shirt for her to wear, all black in color, and fairly boring in design. It had a simple neckline, not a high one, though not low-cut, the shirt reached not quite half way up her neck. It was long-sleeved, though the material was light, so it wouldn't cause her to be too warm. Partnered with her shirt, she wore simple black pants. They were fairly loose, a direct contrast to her tightly formed top. Why they were loose was simple. With every step, Kimi would make an unnoticed by normal hearing, yet very obvious to her, swishing sound. That sound would provide a clear vision for her, while not revealing herself to others. Atop her head, she placed a plain black beret, completing her outfit. Finding herself fully prepared for the day, at least as far as her outfit was concerned, she collected her things. A press of a button informed her that, were she to leave now, she would be far too early to arrive. So, she did the only thing she could do...picked up her violin and began to play.

Her songs lasted her through the day, coming to a slow halt as she checked the time. 5:45. Time to be heading out. With a soft sigh, she packed her violin into it's case, and slung the blue and black bag across her chest. The violin case was a mix of hard and soft, the type of case that would provide a certain amount of protection to the instrument, yet be comfortable enough to carry around for hours on end. Ultimately, it was the greatest instrument case she could ever own. Suitcase in tow, the young girl headed towards the living room. Her father made motion to stop her, but she interrupted him. <COLOR color="blue">"Sbohem, otče. Možná nejsem doma večer." she spoke softly, the native language flowing easily off her tongue. She didn't know when she and her father began communicating only in it, only that to not do so now would feel unnatural. Maybe it was a sign of some sort of once-held fondness between the two. She could hear him inhale as if to protest, so she added, "Školní věci s Souji." as if that would pacify him. If anything, it would only make the situation worse. Whether his distaste for her mentor held any founding, Kimi didn't know. Nor was she in much of a hurry to find out. It didn't matter. Nor did it matter that the event to which she was headed was more than a simple school thing. He was obviously too drunk to notice the bag, or the way she was nervously tapping her foot against the ground. Hell, he'd been drunk so often that she strongly suspected he didn't even realize she no longer saw through use of her eyes. It wouldn't surprise her, that's for sure.

Having taken care of things at home, Kimi made her way through the winding streets of Iwa, following the directions given to her. She arrived at the designated location, pulling her small wheeled bag with one hand, her violin case securely fastened over her shoulder. She entered the building, noticing right away the difference in sounds. Each step echoed throughout the grand building as she walked, illuminating her way. She stopped a few feet from the nearest person, noticing that it was a familiar figure. Chi was here. And then, standing near by, was another classmate of hers, as well as a friend. Kei. A small smile rose to her face. It looked like she wasn't the only one who was becoming one of the elite. Good. She looked forward to spending more time getting to know them both a little better. It was then that she remembered the letter. "I'm Kimi. I'm here to become a Guardian...as well..." she added the last words, acknowledging that Chi had stated the same mere moments before.

I'M HOME! Sabaku yelled as he entered the house. Oh, Welcome home dear. Replied his mother. How was your run sweety? she asked. It was great, I went to visit Hayato and told him about tonight.Oh yes that's right, you have your Guardian exam in a few hours don't you? Yep! I'm so excited to see if I have what it takes to become one of the elite. I'm going to go get ready mom! Ok deary. Oh! Your father and I got you something as sort of a early congratulations gift, it's on your bed hun. Hearing this sent his pulse racing. A gift? What a nice surprise! Sabaku ran to his room to discover a small wrapped package lying on his bed. Immediately with a grin he ripped off the wrappings and lifted the lid. Inside he found some supplys and a pair of gloves. The gloves seemed simple and non-unique, that is until Sabaku touched them. They sparked to life reacting to his own chakra. It seemed these gloves had attuned themselves to Sabaku's own chakra nature. Wow! New gloves...THANKS MOM! He yelled down the hall. glancing at the clock he decided it was time to start packing for the exam.
The items listed seemed a little odd but so were the things that the class had to use in the Anbu class he had taken. Without a second though he began packing. Let's see here... Sabaku thought to himself...trying to recall what the note had said before it burnt away. One formal outfit...check...a change of clothing...check...black out? He wasn't sure what that was so he just packed an outfit made of all black. And finally some good ole PJs. Then he packed the supplys he had just received. Some flash bombs, Ninja wires, health pills, some explosive tags and a vial of dark green stuff that smelled absolutely vile.
Hmm...what to wear...
He thought... It said casual so... He dug through his closet and pulled out his usual get up. Well not this I guess. He threw it to the side and continued looking until he found something he liked. This will do! he said while pulling over a black and grey jacket that had random straps and belts on them. It fit nicely over his black shirt. He tied a red bandanna around his head and put his new gloves on. Lets do this! He said aloud. [Refer to picture to the right] He zipped up the suitcase and headed back down the hall. I'm all packed mom! He yelled to his mother. Good, I packed you some snacks, those exams can be lengthy and thought just in case. She said as she smiled. Thanks mom! Sabaku said as he shoved what appeared to be jerky into his suitcase. While he waited around for the appropriate time to leave he begun to wonder who all would be there. Most likely the people from his class. He touched his red bandanna and though of Chi. He hadn't seen her since the class and she seemed to have grown a lot since that time she jumped out that window. Sabaku had grown quite a lot to though. Lost in thought about his crush that turned him down made him forget himself. Before he knew it was time to leave.
Sabaku grabbed his suitcase and flung it over his shoulder and stood at the door. This....this was the moment everything changed. It was time for young Sabaku to attain a new level of status and grow up even more. Opening the door he waved goodbye to his mother and closed the door. He decided not to warp as usual, he had plenty of time to get there and wanted to take in the surroundings. Listening to the birds chirping and watching the younger children playing ball in the street made him smile. These were the things he wanted to protect. Sabaku was willing to put everything on the line if it meant giving these normal citizens a better and safer life. Soon enough he was within Aventurine street. He could see the large building that he was to be staying at in the distance. His heart begun to pound with anticipation. Sabaku's thoughts raced as he wondered what kind of tests they would be given. He was also excited to see Light again. Ever since that day in the storm with her, his confidence had soared. Her words stroked him deeply and fueled his mind with the determination he needed for this exam. Upon arrival he was met by a guard. He was supposed to say something.... He faltered for a brief moment of silence while making eye contact with the guard. Oh! I am Sabaku, I wish to become a Guardian! He said while holding out a hand for a hand shake. Sabaku was here, he was excited...he was ready!

As the students began to arrive, Megami glanced over each one, taking note of those she had not been interactive with before. So far the only students she'd really analyzed were Oyochi, Shin, Kyo, and Sabaku. It was sort of uplifting that many of these individuals were going to try to become Guardians, though she would not have judged them any less if they chose ANBU. This was a united branch, both old ways and new ways able to work together without the bigoted idea of diminishing ones own value and worth because of beliefs in the foundation of a system. Every single individual who was an ANBU or Guardian was the best that Iwagakure had to offer, and whether showing their faces, or hiding behind a mask, they were all capable of getting a job in the quickest and most discrete of manners. However, It was not a challenge of strength that the students would be facing today. While one's capacity of fighting was important in the face of danger, the important trait of an ANBU or Guardian was to retrieve, analyze, or dissolve a situation without ever having causes a disturbance or making others aware or suspicious of your motives.

Though the students had all arrived in a fashionable manner, early, which was definitely a good quality, she waited until the clock chimed 6, 3 deep gongs that issued from a nearby grandfather clock. As if that were the signal she was waiting for, Megami crossed her arms and began. "Thank you all for gathering here by the expected time. You all know why you're here, so I won't waste time by explaining. For those of you who don't know me, I am the Guardian of Lightning, and I will be observing you during your exam, and giving help when need be." Seeing as most of the students had brought their bags of clothing with them, she figured she would let them know what was going on. "I asked that you all bring a set of luggage, and hope you all have. For the duration of the exam, we will be on lockdown for a total of 24 hours. Don't worry, your families have been notified." She allowed this information to sink in with the students, figuring many of them to be potentially upset with the idea of an exam consuming 24 hours. It was a bit unconventional by some means, but when the students found out what they would be doing, it would all make sense. In fact, it may seem like the time they would be given was too short.

Reaching into one of the pockets on her cargo pants, she removed a set of keys. "Rooming arrangements have been provided for each of you on the second floor, just above this room. You will each take one of four keys." Megami would wait for the students to take one of the keys from her, each labeled 1-4. It would be first come first serve, depending on how eager they were. There was a key feature to each room, so there choices did have a potential wild card that could be used during the course of the exam. But that was something she would save for a little later. Once the keys were all taken from her, she would proceed onward again. "Now, onto what the exam will consist of. For 24 hours, you will all go through an arranged simulation. There will be certain events that take place during your stay and the training that your classes have given you should pay off in the long run. The simulation will circulate around a murder. You will have 24 hours to investigate. You must uncover who the killer is, what the murder weapon was, and where the killing took place. Remember that things may not appear as they at first seem. Everyone will become a suspect. But there's no reason to be concerned, as this is all simply a simulation and no one will be harmed." She gave them a moment to take in this information. It was a lot to take in at once, but this is what the job of a Guardian and ANBU entailed. Giving up large amounts of your time, never ruling out anyone as a suspect, even you most trusted of friends, and always working towards finding the answer to the problem. They dealt with people every day, and were called in for heinous murders or questionable deaths. They could be working on cases for days on end, going on little sleep in order to stop traitors of the village.

Taking one last thing from one of her pockets, she held four gold coins. "These are tokens. Once the simulation has began, you will no longer be able to contact me, unless you use this token. The reason being, this is a test of your deduction, interrogation, and analytical skills when facing a situation placed on you. You will only have 1 token, so use it wisely. This token will allow you to access me for help, in which case you can ask for 1 valid piece of evidence, a hint for what to look for next, to rule out 1 suspect as the killer, or ask for 1 physical trait of the killer, but you don't get to choose which trait. Once an option is selected, it may not be asked for again. Should you not use your coin, you will receive a small yen package at the end of the exam." Once more she would wait for everyone to take one of the coins from her hand. Finally, with everything laid out as best as she could, she started to get things under way.

It had taken about 15 minutes to explain all this, the clock now situated at 6:15. The students would need to start getting prepped before the dinner that was about to take place at 7. "A dinner is being held by a noble of the district, Countess Shizu, in honor of the shinobi that service our village. She has graciously allowed this exam to take place during such an event, so you will come in contact with a few guests and some staff members. The simulation will begin after 7:30, so best to pay attention while you can. You'll have until 7 to change into something formal in your rooms before you meet back here for the Butler on staff will escort you to the dining hall. I understand many of you may have questions, but your time is precious. More will become clear as you work through situations, so long as you analyze every situation to uncover this mystery. Should any of you discover whom the killer is, where they were killed, and what the murder weapon was, before your 24 hours runs out, you will pass. But random guesses are not allowed. You must have supportive evidence to your claims." Megami would come to a finish, hoping that the students understood the task before them. She had high hopes for all of them, believing them to be plenty capable of discovering the mystery behind this simulation. "I believe you are all capable of success if you really try." She would wait, wondering if even now students would ask her for more detail that would eventually come in due time. But either way, she would not take her leave until after each student entered their room to change into their formal attire. From there, Shadow would take them, playing the diligent role of the Butler, as he had been instructed to do so before hand.

Don't worry about suspects, evidence, what's in the rooms, or anything of that sort just yet, or how certain items will work, or the mechanics of the exam. More will be disclosed when the actual simulation starts which should begin officially 2 rounds from now, when everything will become clear. This is to simply establish a set up with the characters and give a short explanation of what everyone is going to be dealing with. Time markers will be written in my future posts so you can keep track of it. At any point, if you don't understand something, send me a PM and I will help you to the best of my ability.

Remember that the posting order now is free-for-all.

A note made. It seemed as though it would just be the four of them. All of them going for the Guardian side of the joint branch. It was interesting. Ultimately, everything was pointing towards a strange, slightly unorthodox, yet extremely special exam scenario. Kimi knew that each and every detail would be important. As such, shortly after Lightning began speaking, the blind girl reached a hand into her pocket, hitting the button on her recording device. Was it bad of her to record the instructions? Possibly. But she wanted to be completely sure she didn't miss a single thing. It quickly became obvious that every little detail was going to be extremely important. And Kimi was at a distinct disadvantage. Her lack of sight wasn’t typically an issue, but when it came to things like this, she could miss key clues that would lead to solving the mystery. That was unacceptable. The most interesting part was the way it was gone about. Of course, Kimi figured by the request for additional clothing to be brought that they would be there for an extended amount of time. It was the fact that her father had been notified that amused, and worried, her. Who was the poor, unlucky soul who got the job of informing him that his daughter would be completely without contact for a full day, and got the sorry job of listening to how much he really couldn’t give a fuck. It made her twitch slightly. It wasn’t a pleasant thought, that’s for sure. Either way, she pushed it from her mind. She had more important things to dwell on than her increasingly disappointing home life.

Head tilted slightly, Kimi turned her attention towards the four keys. Each key held the possibility of a clue…something that could set her one step ahead, or two steps behind. Of course she wanted something useful to come from her room. But how could she know which would be the most useful? Ultimately, that was all up to chance, and as such, she didn’t really care which key she received. So, she would instead choose to wait until the others had made their decisions, taking whichever key was left. (it wasn’t as though she could tell which was which anyway, after all.) Her room key firmly in hand, she focused once again on Lightning’s exposition. At that point, four tokens were produced, and Kimi tilted her head, her beret sliding off. With quick precision, she swept her hand around, grasping the floppy hat in her hand, and re-placed it upon her head. Stupid hats never wanting to stay where they were put. Kimi made a mental note to pin it to her head whenever she next decided to wear it, and returned to paying attention. She took a token, placing the small, incredibly important object into a zip pocket on her violin case. That could be a ridiculously important tool, therefore she put it with the rest of her shinobi tools. The yen packet for not using the token would be a nice bonus – it would contribute much to her ‘get out of this house’ fund – but that wouldn’t keep her from using it if she really needed to.

It was at this point that Lightning informed them of the reason for their formal wear. A dinner was being held, and they were going to be somehow involved in all of that. The mere thought caused Kimi to frown slightly, her nervous worry becoming plain to any who knew her well. Large groups of people could still occasionally be difficult for her to handle, especially if she was unfamiliar with their voices. It was always a little intimidating to be in a room full of unfamiliar faces, after all. Even so, she knew that it was all part of the event, and as such, would approach the entire situation with a smile. Part of being a Guardian was putting in that extra effort, after all. It wouldn’t be an issue. She nodded, acknowledging that she had heard and understood everything the Guardian had said. She was about to turn and head towards her assigned room, when she paused. She turned back towards the Guardian, and spoke nervously. ”Um…Lightning? I was just…wondering…what the expectations are as far as music would be concerned. I mean…uh…I play violin.” she stumbled over her words, trying to figure out the best way to explain her question. She didn’t know how much Lightning may or may not know about her, which made it all a little awkward. ”I was wondering if I should just leave the instrument in my room for the duration of the exam…it’s just…sometimes, if things are really quiet….everything gets blurry, so some background music helps to clear everything up…” aw great. She was going to sound incredibly dumb in front of the Guardian/ANBU Sennin. She just didn’t want to do anything inappropriate and get in trouble. ”If that wouldn’t be okay, that’s fine. It’s no real big deal. I’d just…like to be sure…” she finished awkwardly. She would then wait for the older female’s response, before nodding respectfully. She would then give a soft thank you, and run off to her assigned room.

On one hand, Kimi would have liked to say something in way of greeting and/or encouragement to the others before they began. At the same time, however, they weren’t given an incredible amount of time to prepare for the event. Kimi really wanted to make a good impression, so she wanted to be sure to look her best. That was difficult, of course, since she lacked the fundamental sense related to appearance. But, she could do the best she could, and that would have to be enough. Maybe she could sneak into Chi’s room before they had to appear for dinner, and ask the other female for some last-minute touch ups. That was probably a better option than trying to go to either Sabaku or Kei. Either way, it was going to be interesting.

”Alright. Let’s see if this thing works. [rustling sounds] Cool. I’m so glad I picked up this new headset. It’s going to make this a whole lot easier. Especially the hands-free aspect. And the second recorder won’t hurt either. That way I can keep my personal record, and my record of everything else that’s going on, separate. Alright.

Guardian Exam. Time:
SIX FIFTEEN PM Shit! I thought I had finally gotten the volume to a reasonable level. –sigh- Oh well. I’ll work on that once I get to the room. After I get ready, that is. Anyway. Pre-exam preparations. We were given room numbers. There is apparently something in there that’s supposed to assist in the events. At least, that’s what it seems like based on Lighting’s explanations. Oh yeah. Token. Zip pocket with the rest of my shinobi tools. So I don’t forget. Okay anyway. Ugh I hate how echo-y this place gets. Everything bounces everywhere and it’s totally going to give me a headache after a while. Anyway. Heading up the stairs to my room. To get into a formal outfit for some sort of dinner thing. At least, it seems like it. Lightning said something about some Countess hosting some sort of thing. Should be a lot of people there. I’m just glad I have a good 45 minutes to get ready. Anyway. Here’s my room. [door opens, then shuts]

I’m going to take the headset off so I can record while I get ready. [volume decreases slightly] Now where’s that dress…AHA! THERE IT IS! I sure hope it looks okay on me. It’s brand new, and I haven’t really had time to collect opinions on it. It’s not my usual black, so I’m nervous. What if the color doesn’t go well with my eyes…or skin tone…or hair…or something else horrible! I mean, it shouldn’t. The lady at the store said it was a blue-grey that would go really well with the ‘monochromatic color scheme’ I’ve got going….whatever that means. I think It’s good. I’m a little worried about it being strapless…but it isn’t like it’s going to fall off or anything. And it fits so well! Let’s see…should I keep the beret on? Nah. This is formal. I shouldn’t wear anything on my head. Or what about a simple black bow? That could look really nice….nah. I’m good with just my hair. I’m glad I decided to keep it down.

…I was supposed to be talking about the exam, wasn’t I….

Right. So, there’s just four of us. Kei and Chi both got here before I did. Somehow I’m not surprised Kei was here. I mean, I figured he’d be going Guardian after our classes together. He seems like the sort, and it sounds like Souji’s at least had a passing interest in his schooling. Aw shit. I should probably think of him as Shadow right now. This –is- a Guardian event, after all. Work, not play. Anyway. Chi isn’t a huge surprise either. She was in the class as well. Come to think of it, all four of us were. Sabaku as well. Oh yeah. I never mentioned, he was the fourth. He got here right after I did. I’m sorta glad it’s the four of us here today. We started this whole thing together. I mean, Kei, Sabaku, and I were all in our very first class together. From beginning to end. I like it. Anyway. I’m a little worried about this event. I really want to do well, and prove to Shadow that I’m worthy to be his student…but what if I just can’t do it? What if my being blind is a major hindrance that prevents me from noticing a key piece of evidence that causes me to not figure it out!?!
THIS IS YOUR PRE-SET ALARM WARNING YOU THAT IT IS SIX FOURTY-FIVE PM!! [crash, bang] OW! Shit. I was not expecting that. Owwwwwwww. I’m going to have a bump on my head now, aren’t I. I sure hope not! Anyway…just need to get on my shoes…I’m so glad I decided to bring my simple black dance flats instead of the heels I was considering. My feet would have hated me. I already hate me a little bit for not wearing something a bit longer. I’m not used to my knees being out in the open air…

Anyway. Let’s see if I can get this watch fixed before I go.
THIS IS YOUR PRESET ALARM WARning you that it is now six fifty pm. Wow. That’s a lot better. No obnoxious echoing in my ears. And it won’t bother the entire place every time I need to know the time. One less thing to worry…OH SHIT DID IT JUST SAY SIX FIFTY ARGH OH NO WHAT IF I LOOK DUMB HOW WOULD I KNOW?!?! Crap. Uh..what do I do. I don’t know which room is Chi’s, and I can’t very well go door-to-door asking for her! What if I look really dumb and I manage to run into Kei first!! Now I’m panicking. This isn’t a good way to start the exam. I don’t have time to panic. Uhhh….I guess…it’ll have to do…

Alright. Returning my headset to my ear. [rustling; volume increasing slightly] There we go. I should hurry downstairs. But, should I wait for the others to get out first, and all go down together, or run ahead in case they’re already there?
this is your preset alarm warning you that it is six fifty-seven pm Yep. Hurrying ahead it is.”

Oh? A 24 hour lockdown...This was indeed a strange exam. But still an exam nonetheless. Sabaku would have to ready for anything and everything to pass this exam it seemed. So it's just the four of them, were there so few that wanted to become a Gaurdian? Sabaku had come to know his other exam'ees for the most partly fairly well. He understood Kei the least, he seemed to be shrouded in a mysterious cloak of subtlety. Kimi was close to the same, having only slightly more interaction with her. Remembering the tournament sent him into a state of momentary crushing despair. Shrugging it off he glanced at Chi. He was particularly excited to see her here tonight. Finally another chance to show her what i'm made of...maybe then she'll like me.. He thought to himself.

The mentioning of keys snapped his full attention back to Light. Sabaku never had much luck with the unknown and picking a random key would most likely prove futile. This brought back the memory of the anbu class...what was he ever supposed to do with a empty quiver and water balloons anyway... Again pushing old memorys away to bring forth new ones, he thought about the keys before making a decision. Since he was the last to arrive it only made sense to take the last room, Room number four. Stepping forward, glancing at the others to make sure they didn't think ill of him for stepping out first, he approached Light. I'd like key number four please, Guardian of Lightning. He knew he could just call her light, but he thought the situation called for a more professional approach.

Sabaku wasn't entirely thrilled about the whole murder/mystery exam. He had played similar games when he was younger with his parents and Hayato... He almost always lost. Though this was real life and not a simple board game, so perhaps his luck will have changed tonight. Being presented with a coin, he held it tightly in his hand. This could mean life or death, figuratively speaking of coarse. Even the slightest bit of knowledge could turn the tide of the exam in his favor. Knowledge is power in these sort of situations. His speed and martial prowess would prove useless tonight, further making this exam that much more difficult.

Glancing at the huge clock it read 6:15, had that much time passed already? It must have been the excitement of the exam that had sped up the time. A dinner was to be held for some guests. Sabaku wondered if they would be part of the exam or if they would be watching the four of them run around in a frenzy to find clues. Either way Sabaku was hungry and could use a bite to eat. After light had finished speaking, she ushered them to their rooms to get changed for the dinner. Walking towards his room he admired the portraits that lined the walls, this was a very fancy house.

Sabaku arrived at his room... Standing at the door he took in a deep breath and inserted the key to unlock the door. Pushing it open slowly he examined the room to search for the supposed clue that may or may not be there. Finding nothing right off the bat he shrugged it off and closed the door behind him. His suitcase now on the bed he unzipped it and begun pulling out his formal wear. Making sure all the buttons were snug in place, he placed a white handkerchief in his pocket for that little extra bit of flare. He thought it was silly but his mother insisted it would make him look handsome. And that was exactly what he was going for. Thought this was still an exam, he did want to impress Chi after-all.

Walking back down the hall and down the stairs he noticed some flowers in a vase, plucking one from the arrangement he held it close in hand. He arrived where the others were supposed to meet up and waited. It seemed that Kimi had already arrived and looked like she was nearly out of breath from hurrying or something. He gave her a nod and stood next to her while he waited for Chi to come down the stairs. Once she would arrive he would most likely tell her how beautiful she looked in whatever outfit she would be wearing. And then he would hand her the flower telling her that a pretty girl needed pretty flowers. Cheesy yes, but sometimes that's all it takes...

[legend="[size=4]This Is It, Yo[/size]"]This was not in any way, shape, or form what Chi was expecting. However, she was ready to go. Before the briefing she took note of the three other students taking the exam: Kei was strong, but Chi had yet to see anything in regards to his intellect. She would watch him closely so she could learn more about him. Kimi showed up after Chi, and a tingle ran through her body. She felt this was her chance to show her up, she may have come second in the tournament to this girl but she refused to let her 'win' this exam. Then there was Sabaku, the boy whose affection she spurned quite some time ago. She wondered what would become of him in this exam, she didn't know much about him. She didn't get to see much of his skill in the tournament because he faced off against Kimi and lost pretty brutally. It was a shame, Chi would have liked to have seen him in the final four.

Then there was Chi, she began running through her own skills but then the woman began to speak. The thought of being in a lockdown for 24 hours was intense, especially with those who she was in there with. She didn't know this Guardian of Lightning, but if she anything like Shadowhotstuff she would be interesting to say the least. Then the other three students were pretty much unknown to her, except for the few encounters she's had with them. She knew the names and faces, this was her chance to learn any important intel she may need about them. As for how her parents probably feel about this, she knew they were probably excited. 24 hours without Chi, the young girl thought, would be a vacation for them. Chi took one of the keys the woman offered, number three, and then the explanation began.

As Lightning explained what they would be doing for the next 24 hours, Chi paid very close attention. It was a strange process for an exam in her eyes, but it made sense for the field they were all going for. Chi had thought for some time she would be going to be a medic, but circumstances brought her to this room with these people on this day for this event. She would find out who the killer was, which weapon, and what room it took place in before anyone. She had to. Everything that happens from that point until the "murder" was very important. Each of them had an advantage now in this simulation, knowing that it was going to take place. In a real situation they would get there after the fact but this was just an exam after all.

Then the tokens came, and Chi placed hers inside her suit under her dress, in the chest area. She didn't think she would use it, not because she thought she wouldn't need it but rather because she wanted to do this without help from the instructor. Though, if worse came to worse it was nice to know she had the option to get help, even if it wasn't much. The yen package didn't mean much to her, she had all the yen she could ever need from her family. What interested her more was the dinner, and the people she would meet if it was really being hosted by a noble. What was more interesting was the thought of Kimi being blind during this whole ordeal, it made Chi wonder how she would go about all this.

As soon as they were dismissed Chi would head to her room immediately to get ready. As she passed Sabaku she would give him a glance and run her fingers through her hair to move it out of her face. If he looked at her, she would mouth 'hello' before making her way up the stairs. She found her way to her room and dropped her bag on the floor. She wasn't much for formal wear, but she had something that she would wear to nights out with her parents. Though they still didn't like her being at home, having the whole family there looked good for business purposes.

It was a white dress, the color was what Chi's synesthesia represented as pure. It felt good to wear white after wearing nothing but that black suit for so long. However, under her dress she still wore that flame resistant suit just in case. She didn't want to be caught in a scuffle and not be able to flare up without ending up naked after the fact. So she took her arms out of the sleeves and stuck them inside the dress, the material being just thick enough to hide it. She found a mirror in her room and stood in front of it, her hair was fixed to cover her ears and a headset was put on. She thought it might be possible to work with the other participants in order to figure it out, so she put it on just in case. She didn't know if the other students would think of bringing one with them, but if they did it could be beneficial. She didn't hear anything about not being able to work with the others.

At some point she heard the others walking down the hall, and it was late in the hour. She hadn't even realized it was so late, she didn't have much time. She went to the door and stood there with her hand on the knob, unsure of whether she was ready to go down or not. Upon taking a look at the clock she knew she had to get down there before she was late. She turned the knob and walked out into the hall, taking her time to reach the top of the stairs where she would look down at the others who were already there. One in particular, Sabaku, stood there looking like a fart nugget. He held a flower in his hand, one that Chi recognized as being from an arrangement in the hall. She smiled anyway, looking down at him from the top of the stairs. She walked down then, heading straight to the boy whose face she had burped fire into on the day they first met.

"Thank you, Baka-chan." She would say politely, but also with a bit of affection as well. "This was very nice of you." She would place the flower in her hair and give him a wink. He was nice enough, but Chi didn't understand why he would perform such an act. She turned him down the first time they met, and then just left. Now, she's even more committed to her future. She was even less likely to go for his silly acts of romanticism. She would move to go around him and notice Kimi was there as well.

"I appreciate the gesture, and you do look quite handsome, but you know I'm too determined to become the Tsuchikage to worry about boys… We don't need to be doing this right now, we just need to get through this exam. Perhaps, maybe, if you impress me we can talk afterward…" She would give a sly grin as she turned away, not sure what would happen now that she's said that. "And Kimi… You look beautiful." Which was really surprising for a blind girl. Do whhaa?[/legend][legend="[size=4]OOC; 1238[/size]"][/legend]

One by one Kei fellow students arrived and announced their intention to become Guardian. First to arrive was Chi, so she was going Guardian after all. Next was Kimi, winner of the student tournament. She was smart and tactically-minded. Kei was glad they were there, it gave him a chance to really show how much he’d improved. The idea excited Kei. Finally, Sabaku arrived and it seemed that all who were to take the exam were assembled. Chi and Kimi were both very capable and Sabaku... Sabaku had shown skills similar to Kei's own abilities in their Guardian class. Kei wasn't sure what he thought about that. He looked around for any sign of Souji, perhaps lurking in the shadows somewhere. He’d been promised an explanation of the purpose of that mark. Kei didn’t have very high hopes that the Guardian would be straightforward about what he meant, but Kei was hoping he wouldn’t be on his own when it came to figuring it out. His thoughts were interrupted as the woman they were assembled before began to speak.

She introduced herself as the Guardian of Lightning and, from what Kei could tell, it seemed she would be their exam proctor. Kei listened intently to what she said. He was surprised to hear they wouldn’t be allowed to leave for 24 hours. That explained the extra luggage at least. It seemed that they’d be getting their own rooms as well, as the Guardian then produced four keys, one for each of them, and told them where to find their rooms. Kei went up and chose his key before returning to his position. Then they got to the fun part. Once everyone had their key, the Guardian began to explain their exam.

The exam was going to be a simulation, Kei knew he’d have to use everything he’d learned so far in order to succeed. It definitely wasn’t what he was expecting. Working to find clues and solve a simulated murder, it seemed very appropriate somehow. He wondered if one of them would have to play the guilty role. Maybe that would be what was special about one of their rooms. It was a scary thought, and made working with the other students risky. As Kei mulled over the information, the Guardian of Lightning retrieved four gold coins and explained that they could be exchanged for a hint towards solving the “case.” However, they would receive a yen reward if their token went unused by the end of the exam. Kei didn’t want to use his, not because he needed the yen. Because he wanted to prove he could succeed without it. Still he’d hold onto the token, a shinobi didn’t turn down potential resources.

Apparently there would be a dinner as well, which was to be hosted by a countess. They had until seven to get changed for the dinner and the simulation would begin after seven-thirty. Kei glanced up at the clock. That gave them about forty-five minutes to get ready. He figured the dinner would probably be incorporated into the exam somehow considering the times given and the fact they were supposed to be coming in contact with the guests. With that they were dismissed to get changed into their formal clothes. Kei climbed the stairs to his room, wondering what other surprises the next 24 hours would hold.

Slinging his bag onto the floor he began to change into his formal wear. Now where’d I put my… ah! Pants! There they are. He exclaimed, fumbling to pull on the black dress slacks. He was distracted, trying to form a strategy for the exam. As it was though he still didn’t have enough information to start making a plan yet. He went over to a mirror as he buttoned up his shirt. Alright, relax. There’s no point getting ahead of yourself. Kei knew if he stressed now he might miss something important and the more he worried about making a mistake the more likely he was to make one. Sighing deeply, he tried to clear his mind and finish getting ready. He had to stay focused, there wasn’t much time left before he had to meet the others.

Kei took a step back to properly observe his reflection. He wore a pair of fine black slacks and an expensive-looking white silk shirt over which he wore a black silk vest. He fiddled a bit with his tie, also black silk, to make sure it was comfortable. The white haired boy had chosen to forgo a suit jacket, the button down shirt restricted his movement enough as it were. Kei wasn’t used to dressing up for anything, let alone a formal event. As such he felt out of place in the fine fabrics he now wore, a feeling compounded by the fact that he would have to leave his bracers in the room he decided he’d leave his headset in the bag as well for now. Maybe he’d get some use out of it later. With a final adjustment of his hair, Kei deemed he looked presentable and exited his room, humming to himself as he descended the stairs to see that the other students were already gathered there.

The tune caught in his throat as Kimi came into view. For a moment Kei was genuinely glad that Kimi was blind so she couldn’t see how ridiculous he probably looked compared to her. She looked beautiful. Kei was suddenly embarrassed and self-conscious. Chi and Sabaku looked really nice too but for some reason Kei was trying not to stare at Kimi. Would complimenting her seem weird? Kei wasn’t sure but now wasn’t really the time to be thinking about that kind of thing. He looked around, each one of them was a potential ally but any one of them could also turn out to be the killer. Of yet, there was no way for him to know. He went and stood next to Kimi. ”Hey.” He greeted his classmates. After all, in a mere 24 hours, they could very well be greeting each other as Guardians.

Amazing. All on time. All prompt and all ready to go forth with the exam. Souji would listen in as they would be briefed. Though his part was small for now, it was the fact he was to be trusted enough with the exam to help run it. Well, not even run... but just to be apart of it. He was excited. And this was his chance to show he was a leader, but then again. This wasnt his exam afterall, now was it. "Hmmm~", and he'd await them to come down from their rooms until so that he would be able to give them his best wishes. Kimi was first, looking as elegant as she seemed to always be... even with her seeing disadvantage. Though she was getting along pretty well... he knew she would be able to pull out an upset in the exam showing her extreme prowess. Then Sabaku... Wow. He knew this kid had a flare about him in the Tournament, he showed true valor in the match against Kimi, and took his defeat with pride and only wished to get better because of it. Souji had much respect for him. Then Chi, who was to be given the flowers from Sabaku. Cute. Though he didnt think Sabaku was Chi's type in all honesty. Chi was one of his odds on favorites in this. Between her and Kimi. They were the top of their class. Taking classes and even showing their fighting abilities.

And finally Kei, the sleeper in this. Not much information was even known about Kei for Souji. Mysteriously he one shot the kid in the tournament... and was the first kicked from the finals. He was strong. Even Souji knew this... and his wit was in the range of Chi and kimi's but what was missing? Why didnt Kei stand out? Maybe this was his chance... this was someone Souji wanted to see in real action. Someone Souji knew had that edge about him but maybe he held himself back from showing off? Well this was the time... As they all gathered Souji would appear as the shadows that split him up would now bring and piece him together. Until he would become whole and his form would be solidified. "Welcome. I will be the Butler for the duration of your stay. My name is, Winston. And you shall call me as such for the duration of this simulation. May you all have the best of luck, and may this be a good transition from Student to a Higher Ranking Warrior."</B><i></i>, and with that the bells would chime. Like clock work his speech stopped right on his internal clock of 6:59. It was time to open the doors...

And he would then turn around placing a white gloved hand on the doors to the dining hall pushing it forth as seemingly a white light would blind them from the visuals of the room...

<B>"Here we go. . ."

Before the students left, Megami half expected one of them to ask a question and one indeed did. Kimi asked her if she could play her violin. Now she knew the girl was blind as it was blatantly obvious from the contours of her eyes, but that didn't mean she could draw out what made her special, why even with a weakness she could be just as good as the others. It would be interesting to see her deal with this little handicap. "You can use whatever makes you comfortable, whatever gives you an advantage, or whatever skills you may possess. You never know what will help you until you try to use it. This is a test to see your skills, so if playing is a part of that, then I don't mind." After that, Megami watched the students head to their rooms to prepare, and she warped off quickly into the shadows, in places which no one could see, not even the Shadow, himself.

Time: 7:00

As the doors open, and the bright vibrant light faded, the students would be blasted with the sounds of laughter and the clinking of glasses. It was really bustling. The room was a dazzling gold, elegant by every means. The large glass chandelier hung about a table that could seat about forty people, but only the head of which was being used. Several guests stood in tuxes and dresses of every design, shape, and color, drinking their glasses of sparkling champagne and having a blissful evening. At the head of the table there could be seen a woman dressed in a white kimono, pale in complexion, hair as white as freshly fallen snow, and eyes a pale purple, that everything about her seemed the epitome of grace and beauty. Next to her, sat a little boy, who looked to be about the age of six or seven. He was dressed in a crème tux, with a white dress shirt underneath. He also appeared to have the same color of silver hair and pale purple eyes, too common a series of genes. This must be the woman's son. He appeared to not be enjoying himself, a definite frown of boredom written on his face, but he sat in a manner of nobility and order. The guests were sitting already, while some stood talking away. It was such a large gathering, despite having been hinted to prior that it may have perhaps been small. Yes, this was a gathering of not just shinobi representatives, but for nobles and members of the bureaucratic society. Pretty much anyone that had more than the common wealth was here. How is this so called simulation supposed to work if there are perhaps a hundred people here? Ah but that will work itself out.

Time: 7:10

Suddenly a blonde haired young man in a white tuxedo made his way over to the woman and delicately grabbed her hand. In a grand gesture he threw his hand up and brought it down on his forehead. "Why, Lady Shizu, it seems more and more everyday your beauty grows and tears at my heartstrings. To think such a gracious and magnificent woman as yourself, widowed for so long with your only son, would be without a suitor for so long. Why these guests are not worthy to gaze upon the holy extravagance that is your essence. Why if you would just spare me just a bit of your attention I could die happy without another thought or care in the world. Please Lady, Shizu? Will you marry me?" This man had suddenly drawn the confused looks of all the other guests as the room grew silent. Who was this guy? The blonde haired man Was smiling, gazing into the eyes of the woman, still holding her hand. The Countess looked up at him, giving a friendly smile. "Hello Kyoza. It's nice to see you again for so long. But once more I must tell you that I cannot marry you. Your wife would be dreadfully cross and I must look after my son, Ritsu. Now stop trying to still the evening, the others are practically frozen with awkward tension. Take a seat and tell me about your endeavors since we've last seen each other." A soft laugh came from the woman as she gestured to the empty seat next to her. The man kissed her hand and gave her a charming smile. "Why of course, I was so caught up in your alluring grace I forgot my own treasure. Thank you, fine lady, for you are far more chivalrous than, I, for reminding me of such truths, but I will convince you one day. My wife and I thank you for the thought of your invitation and she is saddened she could not attend." Kyoza took a seat next to the woman. Signaling for the servant maid to bring him a champagne flute. The maid in question, held a serving tray and appeared to be quite clumsy and shy, perhaps as fragile as the glass she carried. She was bumped into by a man larger than herself and nearly lost the glasses. She knew if she dropped even the one she could be fired by her ladyship. "Ohhhh, no please don't fall!" She caught it and still herself. Her head fell and she sighed. "Thank goodness, please, this night has to go well...this is my last night until her ladyship needed me to work until she transferred me. I really need that pay raise..." The purple haired female stumbled to the table without breaking a glass, but as she handed him the drink, the man had a good hold on it, but it appeared to slip through his fingers as he tried to grasp it without looking. Mizuno dreaded what she knew was about to happen, and after she had been so careful. Lady Shizu looked crossly at the her as she gulped. "Mizuno. I see you intentionally dropped my guest's champagne flute. We wouldn't want that transfer to be given to one of the other many servants I have now would we? So I suggest you bring him another glass of our finest imports and clean up your mess. Next time I won't be so lenient." Mizuno swallowed hard and nodded her head frantically. Shizu smiled at her, despite the angry look she gave moments ago. "Of course. It was my fault. It won't happen again, Mistress." Mizuno ran back into the kitchen, coming back moments later with another flute, handing it off without incident. "I'm so sorry, sir. It was my fault." Mizuno cleaned up the mess of glass and champagne and left quickly. Shizu looked at Kyoza and smiled. "Please, excuse the girl's incompetence. Not all can have our grace and poise, you know." The boy looked up then, staring blankly to see the man's response. Anyone could see it had been the man's fault. He just smirked with his charming smile and sighed. "Of course, my darling flower. The commoners must be excused every now and again. I take no offense, for you are the glimmering starlit of excitement on this eve of my affections." Taking a sip from his glass, he would go back to his socialization with the other guests. Following suit, as did that others.

Time: 7:25

At the time of 7:25, Lady Shizu stood and tapped one of the flutes, hearing it cling out and silence the room. She was about to speak. "I'd like to thank you all for coming, nobles, shinobi, members of the esteemed commerce. It has been a privilege to host you all and your donations will go to the support of our wonderful efficient military warrior units. It is time for many of you to take your leave, as I am meeting tonight with a special bunch I would like to give these donations to. Thank you all, once again." As the guests started to pour out of the room, leaving the party. The only ones that would remain in the room would be the maid, the blonde haired man, the young child, and the Countess. Of course, given that the students and the butler hadn't disappeared randomly, they too would remain. The Countess gave a warm smile to the group, signaling for them to take their seats.

Time: 7:30

After everyone had taken their seats, Lady Shizu would take hers, and look to her maid and butler. "Winston. Mizuno. It is nearly time for dinner is it not? The two of you, please bring out the dinner for this evening. As my honored guests are surely dying of starvation. I believe we are having potato soup are we not with some freshly baked bread rolls and a fresh spot of sweetened tea? I specifically asked for it, so I hope so." Of course, there was almost a sort of undertone of too sweet that came from the woman. Mizuno seemed panicked and clutched her serving tray to her chest. "Uh, I think, I mean...um..." Mizuno's large dark blues eyes looked at Winston in fear, hoping he would help her. She had no idea what the cooks had made prior to their departure as that wasn't her station. Did the cooks even make anything? Mizuno felt her heartbeat in her ears. As Shizu waited for an answer, hoping not to be disappointed once more and need to fire the young woman, she looked to her guests. "I hope you all have enjoyed your time this evening at my humble event. We try to hold very high standards for ourselves. What you are doing for this country, and at such a young age is highly admirable, indeed. Isn't that right, Ritsu?" The young boy just nodded to his mother and waited to be served their meal. Once it was brought to them, they could all begin eating.

You may do whatever you wish to do between the time of 7:00 and 7:30, but at 7:30 please be seated at the table.
Please wait for Souji's post, as his will play into what you're doing.

The rooms will come later but this is a list of who is in what room. Kimi took what was last and I didn't see a specific number for Kei, so I just split between 1 or 2.

Kimi- Room 1
Kei- Room 2
Chi- Room 3
Sabaku- Room 4

Well wasnt this peculiar, Souji would standby watching as everything would transpire and everything was going to begin to get really awkward. These people, did they know what was about to transpire? Souji couldnt help but just watch the Countess. She... was such a snobbish woman. Devilish in how she would treat his companion for the night Mizuno. The clumsy maid he also watched the blonde male... swoon over a widowed woman while he was married. It didnt settle well with Souji in the end. And with everything that was going to be happening tonight, this group was sure putting on a show. It would definitively be interesting to see how much they were able to find the clues here. Each person was a suspect, but who was going to be the one who was slain tonight? No one officially knew except Lightning and himself and with that he'd chuckle at every passing moment until Mizuno came to him flustered. He'd speak quietly with a towel hung over his wrist standing firmly and tightly, "You will be fine. I'm here, and we'll get through this together...", he'd whisper to her as he continued to watch on.

It came time for their food to be served, and with Souji's talk to the cook earlier he would have those extra special spices added to the food. And the drinks Souji would help make himself. So with that he'd bow to the Countess thinking in his head, 'Bitch. I cannot believe she'd have the audacity to-'"Yes Countess, right away.", looking to Mizuno he'd give her a wink and with one deep breath he'd begin to have the food silently served. Allowing all the students to sit he'd smirk to them all before bowing his head and turning to the table.

"Jez ~"<i></i> or for those who didnt feel like getting a translator, 'Eat up' in their native language.

Kimi; The Siren's Calling

One by one, the other students arrived. First behind Kimi was Sabaku. And, boy, was he acting strange. He had some sort of flowery thing in his hand, and was being all-together odd. The reasoning for his awkward behavior became apparent as soon as the next participant, Chi, arrived on scene. It was one of those boy people and girl people things. Of course. She managed to keep her composure, despite Chi's obvious let down of Sabaku. Chi was nice about it, as was expected - the girl didn't seem to have much of a mean bone in her body, after all - though Kimi couldn't help but get the feeling this wasn't the first time the two of them had this conversation. The female then turned towards Kimi, and commented on her appearance. It made her blush, but was also a great relief. <COLOR color="blue">"You sound amazing yourself, Chi." she smiled at her companion. Her attention was then caught by a strangely catchy melody. Someone was humming their way down the staircase. She tilted her head towards the sound, only to recognize the now-familiar sounds and movements associated with Kei. She gave him a wave in welcome, the time for chit-chat now over as another familiar voice worked its way into her attention. So Souji was there after...wait. Winston? Kimi stifled a laugh. What in gods names could possibly have told him that 'Winston' would be a good name for him to go by? Oh yes, the shadowy mentor was never going to live that one down.

Fortunately for Souji, Kimi couldn't dwell on that thought for long. Soft murmurs could be heard through the door, signaling to Kimi that things were about to get incredibly loud. Sure enough, the doors opened, and a rush of sound burst forth to meet them. Soon after, Kimi became incredibly grateful that Lightning allowed her use of her violin. It was going to be a long night.

7:00
The room was full of strange voices, swirling dresses, clinking glasses, and a myriad of other strange, uncommon, and slightly intimidating sounds. The black-haired female brushed off her insecurities, taking a confident step forward into the room. She could ear a few off-handed murmurs, mostly wondering amongst themselves what the children were doing there. It wasn't every day that such a young group would be invited to such an event, and their entrance must have caught some attention. Even so, she shrugged that off. There was more to focus on then that. Like what to do. Kimi had never been to any event like this before. She had absolutely no idea what to do. Did she stand awkwardly in the corner, pretending that if she stood still enough, she could simply disappear? No. That wasn't the proper way to handle this situation. That may be acceptable for Souji-Shadow-Winston to do. He was a butler, and hardly the purpose for the entire thing. He could get away with being invisible. She was supposed to be there. She most certainly couldn't just sit back and do nothing. She considered turning to see what the others were doing, but figured it'd be better for them to mingle among the others. The event was technically the start of the exam, was it not? There could be some important things to gather.
7:15
Okay. Standing around looking like an idiot wasn't productive. She sufficiently got a feel for the area around her. Enough to determine who their host was, at the very least. Or, hostess, as the case may be. That would be the snobbish sounding woman with the rather unpleasant voice. Not unpleasant in the expected way. It was sweet and nice on the ears in every typical respect. No, it was more of the undertones, those sounds that those without Kimi's level of hearing wouldn't even notice, that marked her off as unpleasant to listen to. The way her laugh rang through the air...Needless to say, Kimi didn't stick around long to listen to what she was saying. It really wasn't any of her concern anyway. If she had been a more confident person, she probably would have said something to the poor maid, though she instead let her walk past, keeping note of who she was. Her attention was drawn to the child seated beside the hostess, who had yet to utter a single sound, yet seemed to be a slight focus of attention. He was younger than herself, that much was obvious, though not much else was known about him. Presumably, he was of some relation to the woman. His position beside her would signify that, though what their relationship was, she couldn't be certain.
7:30
The next fifteen minutes passed quickly. The female wandered through the crowd, not really finding much small-talk to make, though always being sure to give a smile where it was due. She passed her fellow students a few times as she wandered, and made sure to give them acknowledgement as well. It wasn't until their attention had been called for that she came to a pause. She had been near the table, which was fortunate for her in that it didn't take long at all for her to find a seat. She stood at the chair, waiting for the others to get to their seats as well, before sitting. She listened intently to what the countess was saying, her curiosity piqued. What sort of relationship did Sou-uhhh Winston have with the countess? It was obvious that she was treating him as a butler, though Kimi knew full well that he wasn't. Was it all part of the game, or was there something else going on? Did the female actually just not know who he really was, having been told nothing except that he was the butler? He certainly acted the part, assuring the food was properly served. She whispered a soft word of thanks, emulating his choice of language, keeping her voice low enough that only he, and the student beside her, would hear it. She would, however, wait to begin eating until everyone else had been served, and had begun to eat as well. It was only polite, after all.

The group wasn't kept waiting long before the butler arrived. From the shadows came the voice Kei had been waiting to hear all day. It seemed Souji was to play the part of butler, calling himself Winston. Just how many monikers did the Guardian go by? Kei still wasn't entirely sure what to think about the guardian of shadows. But there was still this mystery mark business to deal with. Kei wasn't too thrilled about the cryptic nature of the whole ordeal. Or the fact that receiving the mark had caused him excruciating pain. He wanted to ask "Winston" right then and there about the tattoo but held his tongue. Kei would have to be patient and find the right time to bring it up, after all the guardian wasn't the only person Kei needed to speak to privately that night. He cast a furtive glance sidelong. He had business with one of the other students. Despite that he needed to keep his primary focus on the exam. This would be a test of his critical analysis, deduction, and investigation skills. The task suited Kei well. After all writing a research paper and solving a case required much of the same skills. At least that's what Kei was hoping. The butler then opened the dining room doors, flooding the hall with noise and light, the latter momentarily blinding Kei. The exam had begun.

His eyes adjusted quickly, before him lay a scene of utter decadence. It seemed no expense had been spared for this gathering of the nobility. Seemed like they'd take any excuse to have a party. Still, at least they were celebrating something worthwhile. Although Kei came from a fairly well off clan he didn't care much for how a lot of the rich used their money. Kei took a deep breath and stepped into the room. As he passed Chi, he whispered to her so only she would be able to hear him. When you get a chance, I need to talk to you. So yeah, it was a little cryptic, but if it worked when Souji did it maybe it'd work for Kei. At least Kei wasn't going around leaving weird tattoos on people.

Inside the room was a dizzying array of people dressed in a variety of colors. It was hard to tell where they were supposed to begin. All of the guests were busy gossiping among themselves to them point that it was difficult to distinguish one conversation from another. It was going to be difficult to gather clues with so much going on. Anything he heard might end up useful, the key was just sorting the pointless jabbering from the intel. He was sure there would be something useful to the exam happening or they wouldn't be here. Or maybe he was just over-thinking things. Kei decided to make his way through the party and see if anything caught his interest. There were so many people, all of there perfumes mingling together and ultimately making Kei glad his own cologne was subtle and applied sparingly. After a few minutes of this, something caught Kei's attention. A blonde man approached a silver haired woman and started flirting with her. Beside the woman was a bored looking youth, Kei sympathized with the kid. If it weren't for the exam Kei wouldn't be caught dead at a stuffy event like this. He could appreciate grandeur and majesty but to him this event was just too much. On closer inspection the kid had a striking resemblance to the woman he sat beside, the two were probably related somehow.

Kei's attention went back to blonde man, seemed like he was flirting with the silver haired woman. Not that flirting was uncommon for parties right?... No this was more one-sided than flirting. He was fawning over her. Nope, more than that. He proposed to her, that was one way to greet someone. It seemed that not only was the lady, whom Kei gleaned was the Countess hosting the party, not interested but the "suitor" was already married. Kei shook his head slightly as the conversation continued, the man's conduct was ridiculous. Still Kei tried to appear casual as he took note of what was being said. Out of everything he'd heard so far this had the most potential for a lead. maybe he would learn something about the host of this event that would be important to the exam. He continued to move around casually so that it wouldn't appear that he was eavesdropping but when the blonde man, Kyosa, dropped the glass and blamed it on the serving girl, Kei had to stop himself from speaking up. Sometimes the self-importance of people appalled him. The Countess Shisu seemed no better. Kei felt like spending anymore time listening in would just be an upsetting waste of time but he did feel like he'd gotten some useful information. As he walked away he caught a glimpse of Souij/Winston talking to the serving girl. He certainly played his part well.

Once or twice Kei caught a glimpse of one of the other students or of "Winston." He returned any greetings and tried to act like he belonged. In his head he was trying to piece together a map of who the important guests were and what their relationship to each other was but for now it was seeming like he'd have to wait for more information to reveal itself. A bit before 7:30 lady Shisu got the room's attention dismissing the majority of them. Kei looked around, unsure of who was to remain. Kei hoped he hadn't missed anything important, as he wasn't exactly sure what might turn out to be relevant.

It seemed that the group Shisu had referred to was the students. Aside from them only Kyosa, the boy who looked like her, the serving girl from before, Kyosa, and Winston remained. He wondered if Kyosa had been asked to stay or if he just wasn't finished trying to initiate an affair with the countess yet. Either way it seemed that Lady Shisu was tolerating his presence, perhaps enjoying it? Kei wasn't sure, something about the Countess just made her seem fake to him. Fake and condescending-despite her flowery speech. The poor serving girl looked like she was about to have a nervous breakdown. Kei took a seat, listening politely, as she thanked the students for their training to become shinobi. Better us than you right? He thought bemusedly. It seemed that Ritsu was the name of the bored-looking boy. Kei figured it was safe to assume he was Shisu's son. A real ray of sunshine that kid, he probably got dragged to his mother's events all the time. Kei wondered if the boy would be playing a part in the exam as well.

With that the food was served, "Winston" coming around to give each of them their portion. It smelled pretty good. "Děkuji." Kei replied, his accent coming out thicker when using the native tongue. Even as everyone began to eat, Kei stayed alert. This was more than just a formal dinner after all.

[legend="[size=4]This Is It, Yo[/size]"]It wasn't long before Souji appeared, and his presence seemed to make Chi get rather flustered. She tried to hide it, but her skin started to become a slight pinkish color. She kept her composure however, and kept herself straight. His cover name was strange to her, but his appearance seemed stranger. At the same time, his butler outfit seemed to do something to her. She would look away from him as the doors opened, the lights from the other side trying to blind her for a moment. She kept her vision straight into the light, ready for whatever she saw. It was just a formal party, like the ones she attended every so often with her parents.
She left Sabaku's side and started to enter, but to her side she heard a voice. It was Kei, he seemed to want to speak to her about something. She thought maybe it was about the exam, but she couldn't be sure. Either way she would give it some time before she questioned him on it, for now she had an exam to pass. Her attention was soon focused on a man who seemed to be making a fool of himself, it reminded her of Sabaku in a way. The fact that he was taken and flirting with this woman didn't sit well with her, and she didn't feel like Sabaku would do that and that image fell. Then there was the maid, she seemed like a bit of a klutz but the way he spoke to her made Chi angry. She hoped he was the one who was "murdered" so she wouldn't have to listen to him and his potato brain all night.
Near 7:30 most of the room seemed to be leaving. Chi stood there as everyone took their leave, watching them closely as they did so. Once the room was cleared, a woman with silver hair announced that dinner was going to be served soon. Chi was happy to hear about the potato soup, she liked potatoes. So she would take a seat next to Sabaku, unless he decided he didn't want to sit next to her. She would wait for everyone to take a seat and for the dinner to start. When Souji told them to eat she would begin, keeping a close eye on their surroundings. She couldn't let anything slip by, she had to pass this exam. This was her future.[/legend][legend="[size=4]OOC; 405|MFT[/size]"][/legend]

Once the food had been brought, much to the Countess's delight, she gestured for them all to start eating. She gracefully began to eat, and to her pleasure everything tasted wonderful. Finally some servants worth some merit. Too bad she couldn't keep the butler...Anyway, she looked to the students happy to see they all took their appearances seriously. "Delicious, wouldn't you agree, Kyoza? Ritsu? Students?" Kyoza side glanced seductively at her, his eyes never leaving her form. "But of course, dear one. Nothing that comes from your heavenly menu of delight could ever displease even the highest and most notorious of gods." She smiled and went back to her meal, as did he. Ritsu sat staring at the food, never once looking at the other guests. Just staring blankly. He then quietly began to eat his soup. Everyone else was most likely halfway through their meal right now anyhow.

Time: 8:00 PM

As the clock in the dining room struck 8, a deep low bonging could be heard. "BONG. BONG. BONG." Mizuno stopped and glanced at it as she was coming to take the plates away. She had already eaten her meal from the leftovers in the kitchen while her ladyship and the others dined. Winston kept her company, but he kind of creeped her out. Something about that awkward silence he had around him constantly, even when there was sound. As the final Bong chimed, the lights went out. There was a loud shrill scream that blared through the room, followed by the breaking of a glass. A chair, scooting across the floor could be heard and a male voice. "I'LL PROTECT YOU MY LOVE!" The voice distinctively belonged to Kyoza. His hands fumbled in the dark, trying to embrace his love, but he ended up trying to embrace Chi. But that didn't last long, as another voice was heard through the darkness. "Begin." Suddenly there would be an echo of sounds as thuds would be heard. One by one everyone would fall unconscious, clearly having been drugged. Darkness ensues as stillness takes over. The night had only just begun.

Time: 12:00 AM
Four hours later, everyone would begin to awaken. The drug was strong, but not lethal by any means. It lasted for a total of 4 hours, also causing foggy memory for everything that happened in those 4 hours. Everyone would definitely be sure to remember this was a simulation, with planted evidence, planted motives, and staged murder to allow anyone to be the killer, but ultimately not have committed any crime at all. So, what 'happened' in those 4 hours? As everyone started to wake, there could be seen several things in the room. Mizuno, holding broken shards of glass in her closed palm, blood dripping off of it, fresh, and spattered on her apron. Ritsu sitting in his chair, posture having unchanged. Kyoza frantically looking for his love, the pattering of his fast paces could be heard tapping on the marble floor, and a small blood trail heading out the door that the students had entered in. Kyoza stood, shakily, looking from the chair, to the blood trail that came from it. "My darling! What have they done to my beautiful fragrant flower! Someone help! Oh the horror, she's gone!" Kyoza fell to his knees, staring at the chair and the blood trail, as if unaware of what to do. If anyone were to investigate the blood, a chakra signature could be sensed. Mizuno looked at her hand. Blood, there was a blood, and a lot of it. "W-w-w-w-what? B-B-Blood?" She stuttered out. Dropping the glass shards, they clinked against the floor. Her breathing was rapid and she looked like she was about to pass out. Ritsu still sat, silently, quiet, staring at the others. Above everything, there was a slight smell of burning, or ashes, like someone had left something to cook for too long, and it's smell was getting stronger as people would move towards the door that the blood was leading to. What was going on? Where was the Countess? Some dishes had fallen to the floor, food lie scattered. Some more blood was smeared on the door, but fingertip marks could be distinguished at the beginning of it, but not a full hand print. Well now things were starting to get interesting. It was now up to the students to begin their investigation.

Feel free to investigate who or what you please. I'll give you more detail the more you describe what you're looking at/wanting to know. And of course, the NPCs will react if interacted with.

As Sabaku didn't post, the details are everyone was unconscious and can't remember what happened in the 4 hours as many just believe they were all knocked out. Everyone, even you guys, could be the killer, but obviously didn't actually do anything ICly if that's the case. And it may or may not be the case.~

Sabaku receives 1 strike for not posting. 1 more strike and you will fail. Please contact me in the event that you need more time or can't post and inform me what you wish to happen with your character.

Kimi; The Siren's Calling

Dinner was unnecessarily formal, if Kimi had anything to say about it. While she wasn't a horribly uncivilized sort, she also wasn't from the sort of family that had sit-down dinners together at the kitchen table, let alone such fancy happenings. As such, she felt rather out of place. Typically, it would have been the sort of feeling that would drive any sign of an appetite from her. Not wanting to seem rude, however, especially in front of "Winston", she ate her meal in silence. The interactions between the countess and the male were interesting, to say the least. From the conversation previously gleaned, he was married to another individual. Yet, there he was, acting quite friendly with her. It was strange. But, stranger still was the young boy seated beside her, who Kimi had yet to hear a word out of. That bothered her. Their hostess made a general inquiry, and Kimi gave a polite nod. She wasn't much of a talker on a good day, and this was far from one. This was too important. She didn't want to miss a single thing.

A click was all the warning Kimi had at the impending thrum of the chimes. The sound was loud enough that it would have been uncomfortable, had it been of a higher frequency. The lower frequency kept it from being completely unbearable, leaving it instead somewhere in the realm of annoying. It wasn't difficult to determine the reasoning behind the noise. It must have become 8 in the time it took them to eat. Kimi was passively wondering how much longer dinner would take, when her thoughts were rudely interrupted by a blinding scream. It was, to her, completely unprovoked, and as such, left her horribly confused. Her confusion would only increase as the events unfolded. A screamed promise of protection, followed by the strange man clinging to a female who, if the direction of his movement was any indication, was not his intended. If it had been a less serious situation, it would have brought a small laugh to the surface. Kimi didn't have time to analyze that particular interaction before a much more worrisome sound caught her attention. A thud struck against the ground. Someone had fallen over? Shortly after the first thud, she could feel herself slipping as well, her mind losing conscious control over her body. A last passing thought before she gave into the darkness...Did Souji drug me?

Everything was blurry. Kimi could tell she wasn't the only one confused by what had happened. She found herself with a pounding headache, reaching a hand to her head to rub her temples as she sat up. She was laying on the ground in quite the uncomfortable pile. But why? As she rose, vague memories began to rise to the surface. A scream. She distinctly remembered that scream that had come moments before she fell to the ground. She sat still for a moment, working through the obvious confusion. Someone was missing. She could hear one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Seven people in the room, not counting herself. That means someone's gone. A few seconds later, and it became perfectly clear who it was. The countess herself had disappeared. And, by the sound of it, there was blood involved.

<COLOR color="blue">"It's going to be a long night."

First things first, Kimi pressed a single finger to her watch, waiting for the familair voice to inform her of the time. The time is twelve o'four am. Kimi's eyes widened. Twelve?! That means they lost...four hours! That was a terrifying thought. Anything could have happened. With that knowledge, she reached into her bag, and pulled out her small recording device. "Hopefully this will clear up a few...it's off?" she swore. Souji was gonna get it when this was all over, that's for sure. Nobody else knew about her recording device. He had to be the cause of this. Well, it looked like the only thing left to do is gather information. Detective Kimi's on the job!

The maid's comment of blood was the most intriguing part. She stood, walking over to the maid with what she hoped was a reassuring look on her face. "Ma'am? Uh...Misuno?" she remembered the name "I don't think we were ever introduced. I'm Kimi. Can you...uh...could you tell me where the blood is?" she paused. Her question must certainly seem strange. The blood on the maid's hands held a faint chakra signature, one that was totally foreign to Kimi. She suspected the rest of it would hold the same, but it was much easier to have someone else point it out. "My companions and I are here to help." she reassured the female. Kimi's mind was reeling, though somewhere in the back of it, she remembered that this was, at it's core, her exam. Nobody was actually hurt. Though the presence of the blood certainly threw her off. She smiled reassuringly, and waited for a response.

One of the other three can take care of the hysterical man running all over the place.
