Character History:
Born into the Kagetsu clan, Bōken was quick to be trained to become a shinobi. The boy was the older brother within his family, being only a year old before his direct family had their second offspring, who they named Mukankei, as was expected within the clan. It was soon after this that his parents entrusted the pair to the direct care of their clan as they resumed active duty as shinobi. It was from this time that Bōken began his training to become a shinobi within the Kagetsu clanhouse. It was at the age of 5 that Bōken begun his first test within the clan and was found lacking. While the boy was resilient his skill as a true shinobi was lacking, as he was then left to resume group training with the others, not being accepted for more focus within the clan. The education within the traditionalists clan left a mark on the young boy’s personality, the rebellious spirit of youth quickly honing towards the example the clan left before him.
It was around the age of 7, with his time to join the shinobi academy coming near that Bōken began searching for ways to improve even further. He wasn’t born with any special bloodline and while others showed a reckless drive that pushed them forward or eyes honed to hit even the furthest of targets, Bōken was left without noticeable talent. It was in this desperation that Bōken began searching elsewhere, towards his faith. The firm teachings of his clan and his singular drive to improve left Bōken with a strong kinship with religion. It was here that he formed his own belief on what helped drive one forward. Fitness. The lad would begin training day and night, the passion from his beliefs helping stem him forward. Whether it was from the training itself or the lords of fitness themselves gazing upon the young lad with acceptance, he began to experience changes. His belief and commitment to his cause changed him, made him something more. He had become an exalted, driven in his belief that strength is the path to righteousness. This belief carried him throughout the rest of his youth until the academy, allowing the young boy to continue training to become a shinobi.
When it was time for Bōken to enter the academy, the boy had been concerned that he would find friendship difficult, his social skills having developed only from his few conversations within the Kagetsu clan house. It went better then he’d expected however, as while Bōken was at times blunt, the boy’s confidence and passion allowed him an easier time adapting to the academy then others of his clan. It was here that the boys training within the Kagetsu clan house paid off, as the early years of the academy breezed quickly for the boy. This both allowed the boy time to work on his social skills further and did well to inflate his ego, much to the annoyance of those around him. As the boy reached the further parts of the academy and began having to focus on his work anew, he began to understand where his strengths and weaknesses lie. The boy’s holy chakra made him in tune with ninjutsu to a respectable degree, able to manifest the basics without much trouble and showing early indications of an affinity to lightning. It was however in the field of taijutsu that the boy flourished, his confidence and passion mixed well with the boy’s fondness for brutal weapons such as tonfas and staffs while his training aided him in respecting some of the more finesse arts, such as puppetry, finding value in the defences it provided to his forceful pushes forward.
It was when genjutsu began being further introduced into the classes that Bōken began showing a more emotional response, namely anger. His belief that genjutsu was cursed held strong throughout his time in the academy, stemming from both his clans beliefs and his religious beliefs. While initially refusing to even partake in the classes, it was eventually required that the angered exalted began at least attending the classes. While it took time to convince the stubborn boy, eventually the argument that it was for the best to atleast understand how it worked to better defend against it that won the boy over. The children that showed an affinity to genjutsu however were quick to find Bōken’s disdain, still firm in his clans practice.
When Bōken reached the age of 10 did his have his chance to redeem himself in the eyes of his clan, trying to prove himself better then his initial failings in his earlier test. With his newfound exalted abilities and training within the academy, Bōken proved to of surpassed many of his peers that he had come to know in the group exercises. His divine powers and forceful approach in combat blended well and made Bōken noticeable for heavier training within the clan, much to his own delight. This was when the boy began training more heavily in sturdier and more heavy forms of armor, to complement his style in combat. When it came time for him to take his exam to become a genin the boy was prepared and entered the exam with a set of heavy armor.
His entrance into the exam was met with partial shock and entertainment alike. His armor clearly seeming more appropriate on a soldier guarding a fort rather than a shinobi from a hidden village. The 12-year-old pressed on regardless, confident in his own abilities as always. The exam was to be a simple one, the group being primarily composed of older academy students. They were to try and find scrolls within the allotted time, the scrolls having been hidden within a small part of lowland outside the village, if they failed to possess at least a single scroll within an hour, they will of failed. As was expected, the academy students were quick to begin teaming up with one another. Bōken was quick to simply grab a few of his friends and began marching off into the woods. While other groups were quick to try searching anything of height, whether it be larger hills or trees, Bōken simply continued moving forward. It wasn’t long before the young boy noticed a hill with an abnormal collection of rocks. While another group of two were quick to climb to the top of the rocks, searching for any gaps within the stone for where a scroll could be potentially hidden, Bōken decided to do some impromptu excavation. After drawing his weapon and beginning to smash at the rocks repeatedly, Bōken friends quickly grew bored and abandoned the stubborn shinobi, believing the rocks were only to distract from the real location. As the time grew short before the exam was to end, the boy refused to move from his position, continuing to shatter rock after rock. The armored shinobi left most of the lower region of stone in pieces, collapsing the pile of rocks into some rubble to scavenge. From the rubble Bōken found his own scroll, the well-hidden scroll being discovered by the boy’s own stubbornness. It was with the scroll in hand that Bōken became a genin within the village.
