Chakra Mark:
Located on the underside of his left wrist, Kouta's chakra mark is a silhouette of a black cat.
Appearance:
Kouta has black, wavy hair, that extends slightly below his ears and steel blue, calming eyes. He has very lightly tanned skinned and has
a handsome face usually adorned with a smile to match his kind eyes. His face looks somewhat younger than his actual age, something he
secretly dislikes. His expression is usually as soft and carefree as his personality, enough so that it could be mistaken for carelessness as
it sometimes is. He stands about 6'0" tall and weighs 165 lbs with a lean and athletic build, but is not overly muscular. His most frequent
attire consists of a tank top of various colors, knee length shorts which may or may not actually match, and plain old beach sandals. If he
is in the hospital, he may be convinced to wear a lab coat, occasionally.
Personality:
Kouta is a kind person who almost always thinks of others before himself. He enjoys helping others and will do so often without prompting if
he sees a way. He has a laid back personality, and is very difficult to anger without knowing the right buttons to push. Kouta almost always
has a smile and will often try to make people laugh, even if he’s not always successful. He is not very experienced with the social scene, so
he can be a little awkward and not be aware of what others find strange, but it’s usually easy to see he has good intentions. He is very honest,
which sometimes gets him in trouble, and once he feels somebody has proven themselves he can grow to trust them greatly which can lead
to him getting hurt. He can also seem a bit dense at times, but do try to forgive him.
Brief History:
Kouta was born on an island near Water Country with a bloodline rare to the island which made him an outcast. His abilities eventually got him
in trouble when he used them to defend himself and he and his family were forced to leave the village of his birth. The Hitagi family relocated
to a port city on the same island as Kirigakure where they began to make due and Kouta himself worked as a courier. Unbeknownst to Kouta,
because of his unique ability to warp and evade capture, he was used to transport illegal goods. One day, criminals used Kouta's parents to get
to him and take his package, then seriously wounded both of his parents anyway. Kirigakure shinobi then stepped in and rescued Kouta and a
Med-nin named Sasaki Mei healed his parents.
Kouta decided that he was too often causing trouble for his parents and decided to join Mei in Kirigakure along with others with abnormal abilities
ike his own. In the village, Kouta lived with Mei and rose through the ranks, following in her footsteps. He was first, a Med-nin in Training, then a
Med-nin, then a Med-nin with Tenure before finally becoming a Med-nin Chief. He now lives on his own in a modest apartment and is trying to
balance the social side of his life with his workload at the hospital.
Full History:
[spoilername="Full History"]Kouta was born on a small island in a smaller village somewhere in the Sea of Kirigakure. The residents of the island had been settled there for many generations and as more arrived and made the village their home, the village became more diverse. One particular legend is quite famous in the village. It tells of how, not long after the village was first established, a strange traveler arrived and decided to make the village his home. The traveler spoke of how there were multiple realities and often seemed confused about which he was currently in. Of course, this had most dismissing him as an oddball, but he did manage to settle down and have a family eventually.
The legend continues to say, that when he died the strange traveler was buried somewhere within the village and that when his body was returned to the earth, it became a part of the island and changed it and some of its inhabitants forever. The reason for this legend is that, throughout the history of the village, there have been born those with strange powers which awakened when they were young. Some of their abilities included forming tools out of some sort of inconceivable energy and more famously the ability to actually warp right before your eyes. From their own account, some had the frightening ability to change reality itself, sometimes in very big ways if they were to be believed.
It was in this village that Kouta spent the first eight years of his life. When he was barely older than a toddler, he first began exhibiting his abilities. One day, his mother was watching him while his father was out shopping at the market. Kouta was in the other room playing with his toys and making plenty of noise when suddenly the room fell silent. Kouta's mother looked over her shoulder from the celery she was dicing and found that Kouta was not sitting on the floor with his toys as he was moments before. She walked in to the room and he was nowhere to be found, then began to search the house calling his name.
"KOUTA?" came a confused and distressed shout from his father outside. His mother dashed out the door to find Kouta's father standing there with hands full of groceries staring at the house with a bewildered look. Turning around, Kouta's mother's jaw dropped when she saw the boy sitting on the roof playing with the same toy she had seen him with last. She shouted at his father to get him down and the man quickly grabbed his ladder and retrieved the boy. Over the next few months strange disappearances like this occurred with Kouta winding up in odd places and his parents astounded. At last, one of them witnessed his warp before their very eyes and their suspicions were confirmed.
Kouta's childhood was filled with scares like this for his parents until he was old enough to understand that he needed to exert some control over his warping. Of course, that opened up a whole new world of issues for his parents. Now that he knew he could control it, he enjoyed playing tricks and just being mischievous all around. Timeout in his room was a punishment that stopped being effective very early in his life. Unfortunately for Kouta, despite the villagers being aware of those like him existing in the past, they were still very rare and not misunderstood. Kouta was the only one of his kind on the island and because of it he was avoided by adults and children alike.
As he grew a bit older, Kouta began to realize a little more about the nature of his abilities. He was able to alter reality in minor ways such as slightly changing his physical location thus the short-distance warping. He could toss a rock and have it disappear and then reappear flying in a different trajectory. Most of what he could do was very minor, but the exaggerated legends and rumors were impossible to overcome. The worst incident came when Kouta was 9 years old. A few of the boys from the village worked up the nerve to confront the freak and sought Kouta out one day.
Kouta had managed to make a single friend, despite his unwarranted reputation, and his friend was with him that day. The boys started out with taunts, which the two ignored and then began to throw things until they ran away. They were followed in to an alley where they were trapped, or at least one of them was. Of course, Kouta could easily have warped out of the situation, but he wouldn't leave his only friend there. The group of boys began to beat the two kids up, but it didn't last very long. Seeing his friend being hurt just for being associated with him, Kouta snapped. He began to warp again and again, each time striking one of the boys without giving them a chance to react.
Seeing this, Kouta's friend panicked and ran to get an adult. When the fight was broken up, the group of boys was much worse for the wear. The fact that it was in self-defense meant little to the boys' parents who complained to the village leaders. News of the thrashing spread and more and more villagers called for some sort of action to be taken out of fear of Kouta's abilities. Left with no choice, the leaders' verdict was that Kouta and his family were to be banished from the island with only the suggestion that they head for the larger island not terribly far across the sea. When the Hitagi family set out in Kouta's father's boat, nobody arrived to see them off.
Of course, Kouta's parents did not blame him for what happened. They believed him that he was just defending himself and his friend. They were still understandably upset, and it could only add to the guilt Kouta felt and the pain from being forced to leave his home as well as the betrayal of his friend. The journey across the sea was a rough one as the family had been given little in the way of supplies, but it only took a week before they could see the coastline of the large island they had been searching for. Looking out over the rail of the ship, Kouta could see more land than he had ever seen in his life.
They arrived on land at around dusk and decided to sleep on the ship and wait for the daytime to look for civilization. Once the sun rose, they took to the ship once more and sailed along the coast until they finally located a large port city with several docks. The family docked their ship and entered the city, looking for a way to start their new life. Of course, they had no money as there was no currency on their small island. They lived on their boat for a while, Kouta's father fishing and his mother selling the catch at the local markets for a meager living. Kouta himself working as a courier, using his warping to cheat a bit when nobody was looking.
When uncouth individuals began to harass Kouta on his routes, Kouta could not understand why. He never looked at the contents of the packages he was delivering, as his employer required him not to. What he had not realized was that the little company he was working for had a less than legitimate side business in delivering illegal goods. The company was known for this by the shadier characters of the town, so when they began to recognize Kouta as a carrier for the company his job became more complicated for reasons he didn't understand. Fortunately for him, he was always very agile and had learned to traverse the city’s obstacles with ease over time which made it easy to escape. Of course, warping never hurts.
The unfortunate culmination of all of this happened one day when Kouta was almost ten years old. As certain individuals became more and more frustrated with never catching Kouta, they resorted to even dirtier methods. As Kouta was running his routes one day, he way was blocked by the usual ruffians, but as he was about to climb a wall to get away, something terrible caught his sight. The thugs pulled two individuals out from around the corner: Kouta’s parents, bound and gagged. “Hand over the package or they’re both dead,” one of them said quite simply. Obviously fearing for his parents’ lives, Kouta put the package on the ground and slid it to his parents’ captors.
Of course, the captors never planned to make any sort of trade. They wanted Kouta out of their way for good, so they were going to send a message. One of the men pulled out a switch blade and twirled it around his fingers for a moment before giving the dull side a sickening lick. Kouta realized what was happening and quickly warped behind the man to grab him, only to receive an elbow to the face that sent him to the ground. Before he could be restrained he warped away once more, but as he did he witnessed both of his parents being stabbed in the gut, falling to the ground.
“NO! Somebody help!” Kouta cried out loudly, warping to his parents side. As he cried over his parents’ motionless bodies, the thugs approached, seeing this as an opportunity to kill him as well. One reached out to grab him, but inches away from Kouta his hand was stopped by another. The man’s eyes followed the hand stopping him up to the face of its owner and then to the Kirigakure headband across the forehead of Kouta’s savior. “Oh s---! Kirigakure!” he yelled out as three other shinobi appeared in the alley. The thugs scattered and two shinobi disappeared in pursuit leaving Kouta alone with two Mist shinobi and his dying parents.
Kouta was too distraught over his parents to pay much attention to anything that had just happened. The Mist-nin beside him stood up straight and the other approached, kneeling down beside Kouta. “Stand back. Let me help them,” the woman said, placing her hands on Kouta’s shoulders and pulling him away. Kouta was still crying, but obeyed with the hope that she might actually be able to help his parents. After performing a few handseals, the woman’s hands began to glow a light green color as she hovered them over the wounds of both parents at once. Before Kouta’s eyes, the bloody wounds slowly began to close as the other shinobi removed the ropes binding the two captives and the cloths wrapped over their mouths.
Within minutes, both Kouta’s parents were sitting up and thanking the Med-nin for her life saving work. The Med-nin took Kouta’s parents to the local doctor’s office to make sure they were completely fine while the other shinobi remained to speak with Kouta. He explained that the shinobi were in the town on a mission to discover where the illegal goods Kouta was unknowingly carrying were coming from. In exchange for a bit of information on Kouta’s company, the shinobi explained how the Med-nin had used chakra to heal his parents. He went on to tell Kouta a bit about shinobi, and as he had seen Kouta’s warping ability, suggested that Kouta might fit in well at the nearby shinobi village known as Kirigakure.
When Kouta was left alone, he had much to think about. This was the second time that his parents had been harmed in some way because of him and his abilities. They had already been uprooted from their home, and this time they would have died if not for the shinobi from Mist. Kouta was grateful for their help, and he admired their strength, and especially the Med-nin’s ability to save his parents. The thought of somewhere that his abilities would not have him labeled a freak was enticing as well. Most of all, he didn't want to be a danger to his parents any longer. His mind was made up quite quickly. Before his parents returned home from the doctor’s office, Kouta hastily wrote a letter to say goodbye and state his intentions.
He met the shinobi on the village’s outskirts and traveled with them to a cave opening, which, according to them, would lead to their home. Despite being slightly afraid of the dark, Kouta followed the shinobi and their blind guide through the pitch black caverns past many twists and turns. When they reached the other side and emerged from the caverns, Kouta’s eyes needed a moment to readjust to the light. Once they had, Kouta saw the most amazing sight he had ever seen: the village of Kirigakure sprawled out before him in all its glory.
The Med-nin he met, whose name turned out to be Sasaki Mei, agreed to take Kouta in to her home so he could begin attending the academy immediately. Kouta did just that and enrolled in the shinobi academy at the age of 10. Never before had he felt so… ignored. It was everything he had ever hoped for. He was no longer the only one who could do things a normal human being could not. As a foreigner in Mist and with his limited experience with being social, he did not make many friends in the academy. Instead he took a balance of regular and Med-nin classes with a bit of supplemental instruction in medical arts from Mei.
Kouta, at the age of 12, graduated the shinobi academy with excellent grades, albeit not the greatest practical marks. He was quickly assigned to be a Med-nin in Training under the tutelage of Mei, whom had in the meantime risen to the level of Med-nin with Tenure. He followed Mei around constantly in the hospital and learned many things under her care both on the clock and off. She allowed Kouta to sit in on as many procedures as he could handle, which was quite a lot as he had no social life to speak of. After two years of observing and assisting as well as undergoing several field missions, Kouta was ready to become a Med-nin himself.
Kouta had the opportunity to prove himself before he could even take the exam. As he passed through the waiting room in the hospital on the way to take his exam, he noticed a particularly distressed looking patient sitting and waiting to be seen. Noticing something off about the man, he asked to check him out which led to him recognizing symptoms of a deadly poison the man had unknowingly ingested. He quickly called for the antidote to be brought which the man may have waited too long for otherwise. This delay caused Kouta be late for the written exam, and he did not have time to finish it. He scored quite well on what he did manage to finish, and given the circumstances and exactly what had held him up, he was passed regardless.
As a Med-nin, Kouta began taking more field missions while working rounds at the hospital when he was in Mist. While he was a bit goofy and very lighthearted outside of work, Kouta almost seemed like an entirely different person when he was treating serious injuries. Two years passed as Kouta gained more experience and became more and more skilled at his chosen profession. Recognizing Kouta’s excellent response to pressure, administration of the hospital often placed him in leadership positions amongst fellow Med-nin to test him for the possibility of advancement. In the ER, Kouta directed others as if he was controlling his own arms and was adaptive to changing circumstances without losing his cool. Unfortunately, that part of him only seemed to come out when somebody else needed it… impressing higher-ups in a meeting was not his forte.
From a combination of his young age at only 16 and glimpses of his insincere personality during interviews, Kouta was only given the title of “Med-nin with Tenure” rather than being promoted fully to a Medical Chief at the time. It took another 2 years of experience and enough high-ranking Med-nins seeing him personally at work for him to gain that promotion. As a young chief at 18, he was easy to underestimate, especially if you met him outside of work, and many questioned his promotion; however, seeing his stats would give a different impression entirely.
Now a bit older, Kouta hasn’t changed much. He spends a good deal of time in the hospital or on call while going out on the occasional field mission when necessary. He still sends money to his parents back in that port village and keeps tabs on them, but has not seen them since he left. He has moved in to a small apartment in a small apartment complex, despite being able to afford better as he sees it as more than enough and doesn’t spend much time there regardless. When he’s not working, he likes to enjoy nature or try to make friends- something he neglected in the past.[/spoilername]
