Edited slightly for length
Name: Hoga Ena
Age: 13
Physical Description: Ena is short for his age, barely 5 feet tall. Other boys around him have undergone growth spurts, but he grows steady and slow. His most distinguishable features are his shaggy, light blue hair and yellow-green eyes. He carries himself with a faux nonchalance, always looking to fit in rather than stand out. Ena is skinny, but not excessively so. Ena is physically fit, but his body is often concealed by ill fitting clothes. His face shifts between completely relaxed and a phony half smile to appear present and normal. Ena looks like someone that keeps up the bare minimum of presentable at all times.
Mental Description: Ena is extremely intelligent, but completely unable to focus. When mental challenges are presented as tests or games, he excels, but cannot sustain effort over a long period. He has completely given up on studying, and instead uses his free time to make up games and stories. Ena often tracks his thoughts in a journal, although it too is used inconsistently. He likes to take walks around town, finding quiet places to build forts and playact being a great shinobi.
In social settings, Ena often plays the role of the observer, watching others and judging them for their choices. When engaged on a topic he enjoys talking about, he tends to get excited, raise his voice, and ramble until he notices you aren't listening anymore. He's especially interested in ninja archetypes and famous ninja, and can relay endless facts about them, even their favorite flavors of ramen. In a school setting, Ena tends to lay low. Once class starts, he's staring out the window, daydreaming about befriending tigers and chasing bandits through the woods and infiltrating their warehouse hideout. When the teacher calls and he doesn't know the answer, he feels embarrassed, and sheepishly responds as best he can before returning to his peaceful internal world.
History: Ena is the first son of Setsuko, mother, and Goro, father. His mother works administratively in the medical district. She's known to be good at her job and is well respected. His father works as a sign painter, and picks up work whenever he can. Due to the nature of his work, he is not able to consistently provide, but with his mother's job, the Hoga family has always gotten by. Ena also has a younger sister about half his age named Miki. She's generally a happy kid, but too young for Ena to engage with. No other member of Ena's family can manipulate chakra, and none can understand where the ability came from. During the early testing in the academy, Ena showed incredible promise as a potential ninja. He excelled in all aptitude tests. Over time, Ena's lack of focus and interest in academy studies lead to middle of the pack rankings and disappointment from his parents. His mother, in particular, was not able to understand this dip in performance, and would often be confrontational.
Ena was saved by combat. All his life, he was extremely competitive, and would take every game seriously. As combat was introduced to Academy Students, Ena became interested again. However, unlike the aptitude tests, Ena was terrible at physical games. He was short, slow, and uncoordinated. But in this aspect, he was able to overcome his motivational issues and work towards becoming better. He didn't know if he could ever become an elite ninja, but at least in this aspect, he knew he could try.
