Name:
Homuranaka Miko | 炎中 見子
Age:
10
Gender:
Male
Sex:
Male
Rank:
Academy Student
General Description:
Personality - As the 'child found among flames', Miko lives up to his moniker rather well in terms of personality. Even knowing he was not a natural citizen of the country, he has embraced it, and does his best to be warm and friendly with everyone he meets. Even if they don't reciprocate or treat him like an outsider, there's nothing lost in trying. After all, as far as he's concerned, he is a citizen of the lightning country as he's known no other life. Of course, fires aren't only warm and comforting. They can also rage wildly and destroy all caught in their path. Miko does put up with verbal abuse with naught but a smile, a laugh, or perhaps even an attempt at returned banter (still working on this). Conversely, when things turn physical, he will respond in kind, or even with greater ferocity than was unleashed upon him. Granted, this only refers to physical action against him outside of training. While this may make him appear rather simple minded to his peers, it does at least give clear boundaries with explicit consequences when crossed.
Physical - With his family origins unknown, Miko's appearance is his and his alone as far as he is concerned. Possessing naturally near-tanned olive skin, he can often seem darker if left to his own devices outdoors for too long. His eyes are a vibrant green and always flickering with a hint of mischief, and atop his head is a somewhat unruly crop of ruddy brown hair that takes on a burning red appearance under brighter light. Now, for one so easy to provoke into fights, Miko actually seems rather scrawny on first glance. Standing a little under average at a height at 4'6", and weighing only 73 pounds, Miko does not cut an impressive figure, even for a child. Add on to that a habit of choosing the loosest fitting hand me down clothes he can find, and its easy to see why someone would think it nothing of importance if they run the risk of inciting his anger. And were it any other somewhat runty kid born outside the country, they might have something there. With Miko, they have quite the opposite. Knowing he was destined for the ranks of shinobi, Miko has taken to his citizen standard physical training with a zeal, or fire, seen normally in those children from families with rich shinobi history. The wiry muscle built from these efforts is hidden beneath a pleasant attitude and baggy clothes because above all Miko wants friends and to make friends, and if it looks like he can and will meet any physical challenge directed at him, friends will be hard to come by.
History:
'Found on the border' in Year fifty-one before peace talks began with the Leaf Village, and the supposed only survivor of a horrific 'bandit attack' that left the caravan his family was a part of in cinders, Miko was dubbed the 'child among the flames' as there was no other means of identifying his origin. Even from that young age of only one, the shinobi that recovered him could sense that he would develop some knack for controlling chakra. Thus it was imperative he be brought back to Kumogakure rather than deposited with a standard orphanage on either side of the border with fire country.
In year fifty-four, though many others his age considered themselves kidnapped and prisoners in the Kumogakure Academy, Miko had a much brighter outlook. After all, he had nothing to look back to fondly outside of the academy, and he was in an especially good mood that year as it was the year he was allowed to pick the name that would be printed on all of his legal documents. Whatever his overseers were expecting, it likely wasn't for him to take the kanji from the phrase 'child among the flames' and string together a reading that sounded like a proper and perhaps even slightly prestigious name. After this, with no one legally able to tell him otherwise, Miko considered himself a proper citizen of Kumogakure and the Lightning Country as a whole. Where before he'd been moody and tempermental, he started to curb his bad moods as best he could and did everything in his power to make friends as he was instructed that this was how a good Kumogakure citizen conducted themselves. Of course, whenever anyone tried to pick on him physically, they would see he still had all the fire of, as he sometimes termed it to mimic adults, his rasher years.
The World Martial Arts Tournament further fanned the flames of aspiration in Miko, as he knew he was destined for the shinobi path, and seeing just what could be accomplished by experienced shinobi cemented the desire to eventually outdo them. Three years later when the standing Raikage and several senin vanished, while a tragedy, the boy couldn't help but think of how now positions of power had been emptied and would need refilling.
In year sixty, after so long waiting and prepping for this day, Homuranaka Miko formally joined the Kumogakure Shinobi Academy, and to him, the future is bright.
