Character History:
When it was discovered that Kurayami Kaori, Rin’s mother, was pregnant, she was immediately cut off from the Kurayami family’s riches. Rin’s grandmother, Haruko, did not approve of Kaori getting pregnant with a man she barely knew. Because of that beautiful, spoiled Kaori had to work for the first time in her life, all while being pregnant. Rin was born safely, but because Kaori had to work, so they could live, young Rin was often left alone for hours at a time. Rin ended up doing all the housework as soon as she learned to do so. Rin was 6 years old when her mother got ill. By then grandmother Haruko had died and Kaori’s older brother, Gintaro, had taken over as heir to the Kurayami name. Ginataro had always been fond of his little sister , and he felt sorry for Kaori and Rin, and even though his wife didn’t approve, he covered their living expenses. Rin’s mother soon died anyway, and Rin grew angrier at her father and at the men who got her mother sick. Because of this she started to notice a change. She had heard that her grandfather was a shinobi, from a clan called Nara, and they had some sort of shadow manipulating ability. She remembered this as she noticed shadows sometimes changing or moving according to her mood. Rin decided to ask her uncle Gintaro a favor, even though he’d been paying for her living expenses, so she didn’t have to move out of the apartment. They met up at a café near Rin’s place, but he had brought his wife and kids with him.
Aunt Hino: “Oh, so this is your sister’s bastard child.”
Cousin Ren: “Bastard, what does that mean?”
Aunt Hino: “That means she has no father.”
Rin: “I don’t need a father.”
Uncle Gintaro: “Shouldn’t we take a seat? Why was it you wanted to meet up?”
Rin: “I came to ask a favor.”
Aunt Hino: “A favor? Ha, you don’t have the right for favors.”
Uncle Gintaro: “Now now, let’s just hear her out.”
Rin: “I want to go to the shinobi academy.”
Aunt Hino: “Ha, then you’re going to die at a young age. Wait, maybe you should go then.”
Uncle Gintaro: “Why would you want that? Can’t you just go to regular school?”
Rin: “I’ve inherited some of grandfather’s powers. I want to be able to use them.”
Aunt Hino: “Well, I don’t see why not. Let her follow her dreams, darling.”
Uncle Gintaro: “If you say it’s okay then.”
And so Rin enrolled to the academy. When she first started some of the kids were told to keep away from Rin, because she had no parents. This enabled bullying, especially by three boys calling themselves Shinri Shurikens. It was both mentally and physically hard on her, but when Rin learned to use her Shadow Binding Technique and used it on them, they kept away from her. All the kids stayed away from her after that.
One day, after Rin turned fourteen, a man barged into her apartment in the late evening. His hair was long and bright red and he wore a coat in a similar color. The man muttered to himself, while entering the livingroom:
“Where is that woman from back then? Kaori was it?”
He looked around only to see Rin making her bed. She turned around and as she did, he said:
“Oh, another sibling.”
The man seemed intoxicated in a way, but strangely clear in the head. Rin got confused, which she turned to anger at this stranger.
Rin: “Who the hell are you, why the hell are you in my home and what the hell do you mean by ‘another sibling’!?”
The man: “Well, well, well, aren’t you a darling. Can’t you see the resemblance?”
Rin: “Resemblance? What resemblance? With who?”
She then realized that his hair and face looked a lot like her own. He saw the realization in her eyes and said:
“Yes, Shinku Kyoki, your father. Where is your mother?”
Rin had always blamed this man for everything she had been through, and resentment couldn’t even begin to describe the feelings that went through her head as she screamed:
“It’s YOU! THAT bastard! YOU got my mom disowned and YOU made her take a job that got her killed!”
Rin’s father: ”Aaaww, no fun. Then I’ll take you instead. I hope you're not as bad as your siblings, Kaen and Kasen. I can't have another facility destroyed.“
By the time he had said that, Rin was in the middle of making hand seals.
“Hmm, maybe I’ll come back another day.”
He muttered as he, in a hurry, left the apartment.
