Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

She drained the last of her water with a small sigh. Here she was, just hoping to help and it looked like she had gotten tangled into something so much more bigger and much more complex. Why her? She was just a simple, small townsfolk... (Of course, she doesn't know her life had already gotten much bigger and much more complex due to an event she could not even remember.)

Still, a moment too long was enough of a break for a doctor. She shouldn't have taken it in the first place. There should have been no rest. Not when her patients weren't even anywhere near safe still. Even if they were terrorists.

Dropping back down next to Magnetica, she had to hit herself on the forehead. With how often she claimed to only be a civilian and a doctor, she had forgotten that she was... as capable as full fledged shinobi were.

            Sort of.

            To certain extents.

            Certain, unorthodox extents.

Searching out her wounds, she placed her hand on the woman and concentrated. There was a technique her instructor had taught her. Useful when one was unarmed in a fight. But difficult as hell all and needed a good deal of knowledge on the human body. It was a good thing she was a doctor, of course. "I do hope you're not iron deficient," she chuckled with a small wince.

Iron Breakout. With significant difficulty, in comparison if she were to do this to her own body, she brought out the (hopefully excess) iron in Magnetica's body. She only needed a little though, as the iron multiplied, eating up the doctor's chakra greedily. But she let them grow, until they could seal the wounds, melding iron with steel, like with like.

Hopefully, that would stop the bleeding. But she used a System Restore on the woman, just in case.

She didn't have it in her to use another Angelic Blessing. Besides, if the one called Kaito could be trusted, they had to be extra cautious with this one.

Before she could do anything else though, (not that she would; they'd have to see how Magnetica progressed from that treatment), one of the other medics approached her.

Nanami stared and blinked. But quickly caught herself, extending a hand of her own in return. If the shinobi medic could be diplomatic, so could she. Besides, they were right in saying she was the outsider and that only meant she should work harder to own her keep. And her keep here meant their trust and, hopefully, their patronage and money.

"Doctor Mizushima Nanami and I would be glad to offer my assistance, Sagasu-hakase," she said, with a business smile of her own. The woman was content to leave all the political talks to the probable politicians and terrorists. She still kept an ear out to the other conversation, of course. Working with other doctors was a familiar comfort to her. "I must admit, it would sound lovely to work in a hospital with modern medical equipment. I certainly would not say no to that."

However, as soon as she let go of the other doctor's hand, Nanami was on to business, arms crossed. "But, will they make it in time to the hospital? Factor in the distance as well as possible obstacles, in the form of any remaining terrorists. Moving them might aggravate their conditions further." Her mouth spewed out words. A mile a minute. And sometimes, not even in full sentences like her mouth could not keep up with her brain. "Magnetica-san's external and internal wounds are sealed to the best of my ability. Metal techniques. But, if she is more dangerous than she seems, I would advise against bringing her to the hospital. Hospice? As far away from the general civilian populace as possible. Kaito-san does not seem to be in any immediate danger, despite his erratic heartbeat. Cardiac arrhythmia. Most likely diagnosis. Appointments with cardiologists. If possible, anyway. Jane Doe. Still unconcious. Worst case scenario? Coma. Best case scenario? She is a very heavy sleeper. Possibly psychomatic. Catatonic? We'll need further analysis for a proper diagnosis. Electroconvulsive Therapy or a low grade electric technique might wake her up. Only if she is required to be conscious."

Finally, for a split second, she took in a breath. For a moment there, it didn't seem that she would ever stop. It was obvious she was used to being in charge. She was head doctor.

Moving on to Urufu however, she hesitated. "John Doe. A draining of his lungs might not be enough. You should tell them to be prepared for a Pleurectomy. Just in case. But..." she started. She couldn't recall if they ever spoke of Naganisa's or Urufu's name. "If you think we can't make it to the hospital, somehow... I can... I work at a small town clinic. We don't have the best medical equipment. If we have any, in the first place. But. Chakra. Shinobi. Yes? Vapour techniques. Perhaps, if necessary. I can turn the fluid in his lungs into air. Harmless air. Maybe healthy, even."

Nanami's eye twitched at how quickly the other medics became so informal. Mizushima-hakase, she wanted to correct them. But now was not the time. Perhaps it was just how Sand denizens are. She could correct them later. She wasn't exactly very fond of her birth name as opposed to her family's name. Much more formal. Made it easier to be disconnected with people, even her patients and colleagues.

            There were also... other reasons.

Time and place for everything though. Including dwelling on reasoning for her idiosyncrasies.

With a shake of her head, she hummed. "No surgical scarring. No indications of how and where the bomb was placed. Assume it was placed through shinobi means. Techniques that affect spatial parameters. Of course, going by anatomy and assuming the trigger is her vitals... rather, failing of such... brain, heart, lungs, liver," she rattled on, one arm across her chest, chin resting on the knuckles of her free hand.

A thinking posture, if you would. No doubt a posture she adopted quite often.

Turning to Katsuo, she regaled him with the same information she had shared with the other medics. "Kaito will need cardiologist appointments. And hydration. But I think that goes for everyone in here. Jane Doe- Naganisa-san. Possible coma? Catatonic? Psychosomatic sleep disorder? Negligible for now. Stable. Safe. Psychological-wise, from what I gather, she might need a trained counsellor. Urufu-san will need draining. Pleurectomy. I suggest using Vapour and Water techniques to, at least, delay any of the more horrible side effects that fluids in the lungs can bring. I've done it before. Too many civilians on the island... attempted drowning or accidental drowning. Long story."

But then she stopped, looking contemplative as she looked at the last of the terrorists. There was much to be fussed about with her but most of the attention the locals were giving were given to the others.

            Personal reasons, most likely.

            Connections.

She didn't like getting personal for such reasons.

"Magnetica-san is stable. Possible side effects from copious bleeding possible, of course. Hypovolemic Shock. Hypotension. Organs failing... might trigger the bomb. Other possibility is that bomb might go off if a certain parameter, toxin, trigger, chemical is introduced into her. Possible, given her metallic anatomy. She could possibly be a DIME. Dense Inert Metal Explosive. Modified to have a bigger blast radius, probably. If she has a high density of tungsten in her system, that's the most likely type. Could be wrong. Could be right. Not a bomb specialist. Just a small town doctor who reads too much."

"Shame if she were to blow up. Her physiological, dermatological makeup... structure is interesting." Thoughts of synthetic weaving into your average person came to mind. But nothing malicious. The doctor was not the malicious sort even if she had an unhealthy fixation on medical and technological advancement that she might sometime skim and dance along the lines of ethics. Nothing too horrible. Just endless questions and pestering mostly towards people she found interesting. One time, a man with demon blood had visited the island and she had taken to following him around, exchanging the free use of her blood for his needs so that she had the right to poke and prod at him as long as her curiosity told her to.

"But he," she gestured lamely to Sousuke. She realized, even if any of them had mentioned any of their names, those slipped by her. Nanami was much better at remembering other people's names if they were her patients. "He's right. Bomb... explosive, chemical, biological, neurological, whatever its nature has to be taken away from here as far as possible... I- If you would allow, I can accompany him to disarm the bomb away from village limits. Might be safer that way. Just in case... something bad happens."

What the eye saw inside the... well, eye of the storm left Nanami flummoxed. A whole other storm raged and a great electric barrier at the very centre and only confirmed what they already knew. This was not nature's work. It distracted her for a beat or two. Especially when she could see, feel as her creation was killed, toss aside like useless junk. And distractions were rather deadly.

Had she been alone on this venture, she might have been incapacitated then and there, left buried alive by the sands. She barely had time to blink as a stone ricocheted toward her like a bullet, right between the eyes. Getting blinded by the broken glasses of her spectacles would have been the least of her worries, had it hit. Thankfully, she was not, due to Katsuo's quick reflexes.

It did not stop there though as a torrent of water tried to drill through her. It was Makoto's shields this time that would save her.

            The conclusion came quick.

This storm, rather whoever was behind it, was trying to kill them and it was trying to start with her first. That pissed her off. Royally. And the doctor was often one with a great deal of patience and a temper that often only came to simmer, at most. Never boil. But, oh, how she boiled right now.

Her anger was momentarily forgotten however. There was no time, as one thing happened after the other. First the stone and then the water. And now, she found herself weightless. Not exactly floating. But leaning towards being flung around like a rag doll.

Katsuo's gravitation technique didn't quite kick right away. The delay was long enough that the good doctor was several feet off the ground, flailing. In her panic, in her admitted inexperience compared to the real shinobi, she lashed out. Her shadow expanded and distorted, tendrils of darkness reaching out towards the others with haste. That did more harm than good, at the moment, as it sped up how the others were lifted off.

Heights. Heights! She never liked them. Not one bit! Especially when she was high up, not of her own volition.

When the gravitational distortion cancelled out though, her blind panic subsided momentarily. Enough to realize crashing down to the ground would be very, very painful with the environmental conditions.

            Stupid. Stupid!

They'd fall to the unforgiving sands, battered by the storm or struck by the lightning because of her. Because of her and this would be all for nothing, just because she fucking panicked.

            She had to rectify that.

Time seemed to slow down as her mind got working.

Even though she was only part Nara, she had certainly gained their renown intellect and analytical abilities. Her brain worked on all cylinders, firing one possibility, cause and effect, one after the other at dizzying rates. She dismissed them at the same rate as well, the moment she saw a flaw.

「 Think, Mizushima, think. Think fast or there won't even be enough left of you for them to get DNA identification from. Think-」
            「 Cell nucleus.
            Nucleus.
            Nucleation.
            Crystals.
            Crystal.
            Sand.
            Lightning.
            Glass.
            Shelter.
            Insulator!」

As unorthodox, as strange how her mind worked... she had her methods. She silently thanked her (un)lucky stars at the horrifying amount of general text she had read in her spare time, filing away such knowledge. She'd never thought she'd put them to practical use, of course. "Hold on, you three! Trust me!" she roared, pulling them higher with her. On purpose this time. It left them vulnerable for a few moments. Hopefully, Makoto's shields would hold long enough.

But she focused, the roar of the storm fading to a small whisper in her ears and everything blotted out, washed in bright light as she looked straight at the electric barrier.

            Focus.

She had been thought to control. Chakra was nothing more than a medium, the fuel. She repeated the process of making the Crystal Eye like before. But this time, in a grand scale, letting her chakra trap the sand that swirled around them. It was easy enough, with how much of the stuff there was. The idea now was to let it flow tightly around them like a... tunnel.

So as lightning struck... or tried to, at least, it hit the sand. One thousand eight hundred degrees Celsius and chakra in place of silica, bonded and formed the flimsy structure into a glass tube. It was a Crystalline Passage (though a Fulgurite Slide would have been more accurate), to protect them from the raging storm and the lightning, even as they were pulled down by gravity.

Although, due to their descent, the tunnel came out to be more of a slide rather than a proper tunnel. A slide that shrunk and grew, following Nanami's movements with her limited range and focus, so staying close to her was a definite must as she tried to steer them through the electric barrier in their transport and shelter.

Adopting a confident and almost cruel expression, different from how she had been before, the doctor started to speak: "You know why I became a doctor, Tsukino-san? It's a very interesting profession. With our knowledge, we our capable of both taking and saving lives. Yet we chose to do the latter, just because we can."

Dust from their surroundings rushed towards an open palm as the doctor created a Crystal Eye. It never hurt to have an extra sense, so to speak, especially with dealing with such tricky, sneaky shinobi.

"But, say I had chosen the former? Biological warfare is an art, you know? A single touch, from skin to skin, and I could release toxins and viruses into your body," she smirked, pushing her glasses up haughtily with her free hand as she set the Eye into the air. "Toxins and viruses that would make Ebola look like the sniffles an-"

Not that it helped her any, the moment the other Nanami disappeared.

The cruel look on her face turned into mild annoyance and sheepishness at herself. She was hoping the small monologue would distract the kunoichi long enough for her to set up shop. Had the girl stayed within her field of vision, she could have made her think she had caught such a terrible, terrible fever.

It was a tactic she often used against the mercenaries threatening her clinic back home. The reason why no one so much as dare harm her fellow doctors and patients, why she were given sideway glances by anyone with so much as malicious intent.

It wasn't so much that she knew her poisons, no. Oh, she knew them well, but rarely included them in her battle repertoire. But, having done relatively harmless (to others), mostly moral experiments in her youth, she knew ways to break down the human body with acids, amino or otherwise.

There were amino acids, of course. Useful, essential buggers for the ever growing, ever aging human body. They had a lot of positive effects! They helped one, if they were healthy, to stay youthful, burned off fat and cholesterol, kept one's sleep, mood and performance at an optimum and could fight off such things like osteoporosis and diabetes. But muck that up, practice shinobi medical arts with malice and you could induce the opposite, destroying the victim's body.

That didn't even take into account straight up, literal acid techniques. Komodo Dragon acid, lye explosives, royal water... and, well you get the idea.

She couldn't spot her, even as she take cared to watch her surroundings carefully. But she could feel her. It was like that itch you just couldn't find, in hopes of scratching it. The Doctor could feel the Sparrow hiding in the shadows.

That was the kicker right there.

The girl was evading her using the shadows the Naras should have mastery over. Granted, the girl was only one fourth Nara (and one fourth Akimichi and one fourth Shoukyou, apparently).

So, she pulled, methodologically sifting through the shadows to find her. Threads of darkness speared left and right, trying to locate her opponent.

"I had a whole frightening speech prepared for you. So, there goes that plan," she sighed.

But before she could so much as shrug, Tsukino had gone towards her with a fucking blade of all things. Had they not agreed this would be a mere test and had she not placed a Medical Ward (which she was glad she did) on the both of them, she would have been more worried.

Well, she still was worried. That was a fucking blade.

She could just see herself getting cleaved in half by the thing. Thankfully, her innards stayed intact, the woman perhaps using the blunt edge of her weapon.

It still knocked the wind out of her, of course. And that was cause to take this matter a bit more seriously than before.

          • Don't inhale bad vapours, yo.

She did not think her words would have such a profound effect on him.

But the sight of blood triggered something in her head. All thoughts of romance was thrown out the window, in favour of concern and care. Instantly, she was at his side. One hand was placed on his arm as she chided him. "I'm not too sure if it was medical attention you were thinking of, a few moments ago." At this, she hummed innocently: "I only meant that I have skill with water techniques which is, so am I told, a treasured skill around here. But, come on luv', tilt your head back." Nanami had taken out her handkerchief at this point, soaked it in the water.

The doctor paused, taking it the bizarre sight of the pink fountain waters. It raised alarms in her head, especially with her knowledge of poisons, toxins, deadly vapours. Ingestible and injected poisons were all well and good. But biological warfare that implemented the use of vapours through a widespread area was a tried and true method. Much easier than contaminating selected samples in the hopes of infecting the population.

Fumes worked quickly too, although they didn't last too long in the system. Duration didn't matter, of course, if it was a quick killing drug. Inhalants could quickly cause damage to the heart, kidneys, brain, liver, bone marrow and major organs. Hell, it could starve the body of oxygen or force the heart into cardiac arrest...

That was why they told people never to sniff things such as aerosols and other things that had no place in the human body (why people would even do that is beyond the author though).

Don't worry about it, something whispered in her head. But the problem was, that made her worry about it all the more. Something was wrong. She needed... medical attention. This man, this ethereal being needed medical attention. It probably wasn't only them but all she could focus on was the two of them.

"C-Come on. Let's get out of here," she forced a smile, dabbing at the man's bloodied nose to wipe it clean. "We can get you a bed," for medical purposes, of course. But if not saying the latter part would have him moving faster, then needs must.

There was a spike in her chakra. She'd let her healing techniques try to flush the toxins out of her system, even to the point of overloading her chakra coils if need be. But something told her that the farther they got from this pink haze, the better. It was a start though and she could feel her head clearing a little better. Her attraction to the man didn't fade but at least it didn't feel like a full blown obsession like it was at certain moments.
