Kato cursed under his breathe as the scroll he was reading rolled out from under the covers and hit the ground with a heavy thump. The boy was motionless for a moment, completely silent in the hopes that he hadn't been noticed.
"Kato!" his mother yelled as she burst through the doorway, "Young man you were supposed to be asleep an hour ago, what do you think you're still doing up!?" she chided.
"Sorry Mom,"</COLOR><i></i> the boy said sheepishly, pulling himself out from under his bed sheet. He looked up at the woman as she held her hand out patiently. For a few moments Kato tried to pretend like he didn't know what she wanted, before finally handing over the flashlight he had been using to read the scroll.
"Kato it's your first day at the Academy tomorrow, and you're father and I won't be here to get you ready. If you don't go to sleep you're not gonna get very far with this whole ninja thing," she said kindly, sitting beside the boy and rubbing his head.
Pushing his Mom away Kato looked at her like she was dumb, "It's not 'the ninja thing' Mom, its the Shinobi Academy. And I can't go to bed yet, I have to be prepared for tomorrow. I gotta study more,"</B><i></i> the boy argued.
<COLOR color="#8000FF">"Please just try and get some sleep," his mother pleaded, "You can always study before you leave tomorrow" Kato reluctantly nodded, and his mother bent down to give him a kiss on the forehead. She tucked him neatly into bed and as she left the room, told him one more time to get some sleep. The boy gave it his best attempt, but after several long minutes he found he still couldn't stop his mind racing. Quietly he slid out of bed, grabbed his scroll, and produced a second flashlight from under his mattress.
<B>"A shinobi is always prepared Mom..." he said to himself quietly. He sat back on his bed, drawing the covers up over his head once again. He flicked on the flashlight, and began reading the scroll again. When he got to the end of the scroll he reached under his bed and pulled out a second scroll and a bag of potato chips. Opening the bag he continued reading, constantly wiping his greasy fingers on his belly so as not to smudge the scroll. he was sure a lot of the other students had been planning to attend the academy from a young age. They had a huge advantage on him as far as knowledge and preparation. Kato wanted to make sure he caught up.
