His eyes scanned the cards in his hand, the gray orbs barely moving as he looks at them closely. It wasn’t a great hand, to be honest. A two, three fours, and a five. Most people would have chosen to stand and let the dealer deal himself out. Maki wasn’t most people. For one, he was burning Isaki Clan money which he loved to do. He had a perverse sense of pleasure at pissing off his in-laws.
For two, however, was that he knew this dealer was cheating. He saw it from the nearby craps table, and decided to wander over and play a few hands of blackjack to verify his suspicion. And after a dozen or so games, he knew the next card would be another two, which would put him dead even on twenty-one. He watches the other’s hands as they go to meet his call for the next card, the moment of victory upon him as he snaps his own hand out, gripping the other by their wrist and trapping the card, and indeed the entire delivery mechanism, right there as it tried to dispense a different card into the dealer’s hand.
”Well, looks like someone has a…” Maki reaches down and rips the card, looking at the corner he can see. ”…a five up their sleeve. Really? A five of diamonds? If you’re going to cheat, learn to cheat good, kid.” His grip tightens as the other begins blubbering in fear. Indeed, Maki looked quite fearsome right now. He was wearing a well-made suit, a gold dress shirt under a crimson jacket with matching pants. That part was not scary, not even his black dress shoes or the white gloves he had on his hands.
The fearsome thing was his face, staring at this cheating dealer with an unmasked hunger and glee. ”Keep crying and I’ll give you something to actually cry about. Tell me who is in charge of this place so I can put everything here on the straight and narrow. Now.” His grip goes even tighter.
”Oh, and be quick about it before I shatter your wrist.”
