Of course, there were a plethora of little things she needed to get done in the midst of this crisis. To be honest, sitting down and learning this cipher was a welcome reprieve from the constant stress of missing her husband. Yomi had asked Asuka to be sure the library was empty before she arrived because she was in no mood to speak to anyone save for Special Advisor Tamashii. Poor Tamashii. She had been relying heavily upon him and with every ounce of grace, he never complained. He was too sweet and professional to even suggest that she was asking for too much. People like that were rare to find and during the times she knew she was being extra, she hoped he would not grow to resent her.
She reviewed the cipher over and over because her plan was to be fluent in this before Takeshi returned from Suna. Because Yomi felt like a fraud in the position of Hokage, she did not want her ANBU Sennin to come home to remind her of something so simple, yet extremely important to the villages security. Yomi had gotten the basics down enough to be able to read and say a simple message, however, she was not confident in her ability to read and communicate something more complex.
The language was not soft or delicate. The words seemed too harsh for The Hokage’s liking and they came off as cold as Haku Ice for something that is said to have originated in Fire Country. These words did not roll off her tongue with ease as Fiero and Fuego did. Fiero and Fuego, with all its romantic flourishes and many ways to convey the same idea, this language, Vulcan, left no room for personality. It was rigid in its syntaxes and uncompromising in the way one could use a word.
Even with all its complexities, the language was always evolving for safety purposes which forced the user to not become lax in their study and understanding of it. There was little time to be wasted when learning. Yomi found it to be therapeutic as it did not allow her mind to wander towards a more dark and depressing place. She would spend a great deal of time studying the language hoping that by the time she emerged from her notes that some her great love would have returned to her and she could stop this nonsense. She’d even be prepared to forgive him if this all was just a ruse because he had cold feet.
But alas, that was simply not the case. By the time Yomi was done throwing herself at this task, only a couple of weeks had gone by. She was now completely fluent in Vulcan, but, the investigation into her husband’s whereabouts had not moved with the same vigor. At least now, any communique that had come in written in Vulcan no longer had to be translated to her. She could now read it and be sure that the translation was accurate and no details were omitted to spare her.
