Kaji is a rather rambunctious but well mannered boy. He is dissatisfied with a humble life and prefers to seek adventure. He finds it hard to sit still, and is always hungry for excitement. Due to an altercation that resulted in the death of another child, he tends to stray away from violence even when angered out of the fear of harming innocents. It was also due to this event, that he endeavors to become an accomplished doctor and medical ninja like his mother to soothe his own guilt. He is acquainted with death, having inadvertently caused the death of another, but was trained by his mother to manage the trauma, albeit with great effort. Though he is still haunted by it and fears ever burning an innocent again.
History:
In the village hidden in the clouds, Kaji’s mother: Hirohito Yua*, was a medical branch chunin who owned her own residence after coming to the academy at the young age of 12. Previously, she had lived with her parents at their apothecary shop in the bear country. However, upon the discovery that she possessed a knack for healing jutsu even at a very young age, she was selected and relinquished to the academy’s screeners. Over the course of seven years, she had attained the rank of chunin and at the age of 19 spent nearly all of her money on buying her own humble residence.
Kaji’s father, Jiro Uda*, was raised deep in the mountains as a bandit from birth by his father, a rogue ninja that had disappeared after aiding in the sacking of multiple merchant caravans and the murders of several gennin. Uda was raised to view shinobi as tyrants and murderers, which led him to join his father in raids across the bear country during times of civil instability. It was during one such time that his home was finally discovered and attacked by cloud ninja. During the battle, he awakened his Ashenheart upon his father’s death, and with it was able to barely escape the slaughter. Wounded and alone, he made a great deal of distance over several days before passing out from exhaustion in a small town in bear country.
During this time Yua had been visiting her parents for the first time since she made chunin and was returning home from gathering herbs when she encountered an unconscious Uda. Fearing for his life, she took him in and healed his wounds for which he was incredibly grateful. Shortly thereafter, they fell in love and conceived during a night of passion. However, he later discovered her status as a ninja and in a fit of rage attempted to kill her but was ultimately unable to bring himself to strike her down. So, fearing for his life should the village learn of his survival, he disappeared into the wilderness. Never to be seen again.
Kaji was later born in the cloud village, but was sent to live with his grandparents where he assisted them in gathering herbs and learning medicinal mixtures until the age of ten. As he then came to live with his mother in the village after an incident which ended in which a child burned to death. His mother moved him to the main village and soon after retired to care for and train him over the next year before submitting him to the academy. She sought to make him a ninja so that he would learn to control his possible power and one day use it for the village. She also encouraged him join the medical branch to take up the family craft and teach him the true value of human life just as it had done for her.
Core ability: Ashenheart
For the most part, Kajii’s childhood was fairly normal and active as he lived with his grandparents: Akira and Hina Hirohito. His explosive temper and sassy attitude tended to get him into fights with the older children in town, but he still cared deeply for others despite his big mouth. However, the older bullies had recently grown more bold and had picked up a nasty taste for killing small animals. One day, after a particularly hurtful exchange of words and fists the older kids decided to target Kaji’s dog; Ash, after it had managed to escape his yard. Kaji, thinking nothing of the regular occurrence, chased the dog after telling his granddad. By the time he found Ash, the three had kicked the dog nearly to death. And after spotting him, threw insults and ran. He rushed his dog back to his grandparents, thinking that they could heal her since they were apothecaries. But by the time he made it back to the house Ash, the wonderful dog he’s had since he was 6, was already dead. When his grandmother confirmed this Kaji ran from the house, hoping to find the ones who killed his dog. He later that day found them throwing stones at a younger boy, and they began taunting and jeering at him when he made himself known. He swung at them, but was rapidly overwhelmed as they dragged him to the ground and began beating him senseless. In the chaos, his anger boiled over as he ignited in anger, setting one of the kids that wore a large cotton jacket ablaze whilst the others ran. In his rage he continued to beat on the bully until he was forced to back away from the blaze. Unfortunately the child died, and the grandparents informed Yua of the tragedy. Knowing that her son might very well end up dead, imprisoned or abducted, she opted to take him to the academy voluntarily so that he could learn to properly control his powers.
