Character's Physical Description: Masaru stands at about 6’3, towering over most. Due to years of training in the mountains of Kumogakure, his body is dense with scarred lean muscle. Since coming back to the village, Masaru prefers to be clean shaven and has cut his hair down some. He prefers to wrap a headband around his head and wears loose clothing of various fabrics. The Koga clan have been gone from Kumogakure for quite some time, but their most distinguishing feature, bright golden eyes, remains known throughout the region. Other than that, the only indication of his lineage are his sharp canines which he tries not to show when he smiles and his claws. Since gaining control of his more bestial nature, Masaru prefers a more casual style than most, choosing to wear various jewelry based on his mood.
Character's Mental Description: Masaru is a very direct person, as it is the only way he knows. Over the years, he has learned to accept that subtlety is an appropriate response to situations but prefers to run at things head on. Highly disciplined and focused, Masaru likes to think of himself as the embodiment of the perfect hunter. His upbringing has instilled a deep sense of pride that can be seen as arrogance at times. In battle, he will willing give into his feral side, cutting through anything in his path. The Koga valued Justice above all. One must always work to the benefit of the Pack. This still holds true for Masaru till this day. The loss of his uncle have pushed him to return to Kumogakure, looking for some semblance of order and purpose.
Multiple Personality Application: N/A
Character History: The Koga Clan have always resided in Kumogakure. Though Primarily nomadic, it was not unusual to see small encampments built around the outskirts of the village. As a young child, Masaru grew up with his parents in their small caravan, traveling all across Kumogakure. Masaru spent his days, doing chores and learning the survival skills of the Pack. He would frequently follow his mother and her companion on their day long expeditions, observing her every movement. On his 8th birthday, Masaru was gifted his own companion, a small gray wolf-dog hybrid named Kemuri. From that day, Masaru and Kemuri never separated. They did everything together. The two were inseparable and developed a deep bond that was common among Koga clan members and their companions. It was after receiving his companion, that Masaru began his training as a hunter of the Koga Clan. The caravan returned to Kumogakure and Masaru attended the academy just like any other student. As a child, he was known to be wild, unfocused and brash, but scored good marks on all his exams. After graduating from the academy, Masaru left with his mother to travel to one of the highest peaks in Kumogakure.
While on this trip, Masaru and his mother were set upon by some local raiders. Even though he fought valiantly, Masaru was simply too young and inexperienced to be a match for them. His mother, worried about her child’s safety was, was not only gravely hurt during the battle but also lost her companion. Masaru’s mother was never quite the same after that day. She was withdrawn and fell into a deep silence. No one could raise her out of her depression and as the days passed she proved that she could no longer take care of herself or her child. Masaru never forgot the day when his mother sent him to live with her brother and his family. They walked their favorite path and she cooked him his favorite meal underneath the full moon. In the morning when he awoke she was gone.
Masaru and Kemuri spent their formative years training with his uncle, Taro, and his cousins. Taro was a hard man but fair. He instilled a sense of responsibility and purpose in all his children and cared for Masaru as if he were his own. Masaru had little to no contact with his mother during those years and in his head, the only way to rectify that was to hunt down the men who hurt them and make sure they could never do it again. Idealistic, young, and powerful, Masaru and Kemuri spent months tracking down any information on the raiders. After 8 months, Masaru had finally tracked down the raider’s hideout. Against the wishes of his uncle, he snuck into the camp. Masaru and Kemuri gave into the pain and guilt they had carried from all those years back and slaughtered the raiders in the camp. In the end, looking down at the results of an8 month hunt, Masaru felt a staggering emptiness. He caught up with his uncles pack and resumed his daily training.
Nights passed and Masaru gave little to no thought about what had happened. He concluded that his actions were just and soon his mother would hear of his heroic actions and return. He waited and waited until one night, he noticed a single torch approaching the group. One torch became two, two became four, and soon the forest ahead of them was a lit in flame. The raiders did not waste any time rushing into the Koga encampment. Arrows rained from the sky underneath the moonlight. The sound of blades competed with roars of excitement and screams of fear. Masaru and Kemuri bounded through the forest, claws and blade wet with blood, but a pack of 15 was no match for a well-armed group of upwards 50 men. Taro soon fell, yelling for his children to retreat. Masaru rushed to his side, fighting off as many as he can but was eventually subdued and taken.
Masaru was a prisoner of a small group of Raiders for a couple of weeks. During that time, he was beaten, starved and tortured. He took a little comfort from the fact that his uncle was with him. The two of them sat in silence with the occasional glances providing assurance. Masaru woke up one night, wondering if this would be the day they end it all and part of him hoped it would be. The raiders dragged him at his uncle to the center of the camp. Boo’s and cheers rung out around them as the two men were thrown to the ground. It seemed that tonight was the night. Masaru and Taro were set to be executed. Set in front a large campfire, the men threw beer and insults at the Koga. The night divulged into one of excess as the raiders attacked Masaru and Taro and at times each other. Looking over at one another, Masaru noticed something in the eyes of his uncle. A seething sense of determination, one he had seen many times over the year training with him. As the drunken men went about their camp, distracted by drink and camaraderie, Taro sprung up to his feet and kicked a nearby jug into the fire. Masaru could see how much energy it took out of him as his face turned into a grimace of pain. The fire grew uncontrollable and lit the site ablaze. Masaru struggled to his feet, wishing and hoping to help his uncle in their final battle. The screams of the raiders went from ones of jubilation to anger. Above it all, howls rang out clear as day in the ears of Masaru. Taro took off towards the thickest part of the forest and Masaru followed him. By now the camp was alerted and all manner of tools flew past their heads as they made their escape. The camp site fell into chaos as the fire spread, torching everything in its path, a fiery hell in middle of the dark forest.
He doesn’t remember how long they ran for but he remembers how it looked when it uncle suddenly collapsed. The smell of the forest and the stench of blood on their clothes. He remembers how his limbs ached and the want to stop. Taro slowly pushed himself up and looked at his nephew with a smile. A strong scent of blood filled the air and Masaru noticed a pool forming underneath his uncle. They helped each other get rid of the rest of their restraints and sat in silence. There were no need for words between them at this point. The sun began to trickle through the branches of the trees and Taro’s eyes slowly fell. A rustling in the trees soon gave way to two large beasts standing in front of the men. Kemuri and Taro’s own companion stood before them, their heads hung low. His memory escapes him again when trying to go over those events. Masaru doesn’t remember how long he sat with his uncles body or what happened to his companion when they finished the funeral rites, but he remembers the heavieness of his body after the ordeal, the sense of helplessness and the need to run away.
Masaru and Kemuri would not return to Kumogakure for another 6 years.
