Hashigaki

The entire family was blind. Everyone was a Hashigaki, and it was not unusual for the blind daughter to be one as well. However, after the burning of her body from training, when the young woman lost her sense of touch on the right side of her body, and her sight was gone as well was when her amazing abilities of voice and hearing began to show. The young woman could find her way around any place, by herself, just by the vibrations and sounds in her ears. It was a blessing of the Hashigaki, especially for the handicap.

Totally Lame Physical Description:

The darkest part of our lives is what our physical demeanor says about us. The body of Itami has been kept a secret, and wrapped up from head to toe in bandages. Everything is covered but her pink-lipped mouth and the top of her head where black hair spilled from the top and frames the bandaged face to her shoulders. The best someone can tell through the bandages is that Itami is very bony and skinny. Under the bandages and mummified appearance, Itami's entire right side of her body is covered in burns. A massive mistake in training as a child with a fire jutsu left her scarred, burned, deformed, and ugly.

Once a totally emotional and charismatic character, the young woman was pulled deep into a deafening silence from the embarrassment in her life. Itami refuses to speak, and her voice is unknown to many of Sunagakure. She is fluent in sign language, and often finds she needs to take the sand from the ground and spell out the words she needs to say (in short hand) with the sand in the air.

Itami is very submissive in public, and often shudders away from people. She avoids touching people, but often turns her head towards the sounds in the world--giving her the appearance of interest or listening. Despite this, Itami hates being predictable or talked about. When people guess things about her, or bring up her appearance, she finds herself shyng away, or falling silent.

Itami loves music. She's drawn to the sounds in the world, and especially the beautiful sounds. Her ears allow her to ear the beauty of the world instead of the horror that touch and sight brings others.

Character History:

Training in the Kanashimi house started young, as it always did. The entire family was completely blind and totally Hashigaki. The house did not have many riches, and was very plain to look at, but was always full of music and instruments. Many family members in the clan used them for training. Itami, on the other hand, began with the simplicities, as she began to show signs of not sharing the bloodline. Her father taught her the ways of the regular genin when she graduated from the academy, but when a fire jutsu went bad, the entire right side of Itami's body was hit by the fire, and burned severely to a black and red scarred tissue. Because of the burn, Itami got into the medical field, willing to teach children a safer way of training in the academy, and then train the medics at the hospital.
