Personality- Masa is very relaxed and is always up to sharing a drink with her peers. Even though she is an ANBU, she will try to talk her way out of a fight, but she will fight if need be. She loves to laugh and play about, but she is not a carefree individual. She may laugh and goof around but she is constantly analyzing and searching for possible threats. She has slight paranoia but ever since the mission that caused her to use a cane, she has been more aware, more so than usual. Masa is respectful to everyone and nothing really gets under her skin.
History- Kasumi Masa was the oldest of 3 children. Her parents were natives to Mist and both mid ranking ninja of the main branch. They taught Masa and her younger sister and brother the ways of the shinobi growing up. Her parents were strict but kind and Masa grew up with little worries.
Masa’s time at the Ninja Academy was wonderful for her. She was recruited to join the ANBU Corps after passing a class where she injured the ANBU instructor. Apparently, the instructor gave her a sword and she took to it quiet well. On top of this, she seemed to have a knack for spotting weaknesses when sparring with her peers and used that to her advantage.
Her time training as ANBU was enjoyable. She quickly rose to be a popular candidate due to personality, cunning, and skill with a sword. By the time she was 21, she was a full-fledged ANBU. Her younger siblings, however, did not choose to follow in their parent’s way and went on to live lives as civilians. Masa’s career as an ANBU was very highly decorated but a traumatic event happened when she was 35.
It was a routine protect the target mission. The target was a wealthy merchant and his cargo. The caravan Masa had been designed to protect was ambushed and she suffered a blow to her ankle. Even with medical jutsu, the bone never healed right and ever since she has been forced to use a cane. She was not kicked out of ANBU for the reason that she adapted to using a cane sword in combat. Add that with her calculating mind and she was still kept on to serve missions and to teach incoming ANBU in training. She is generally well liked by her peers and students, but she is the first one to call out any flaws she sees.
Masa, upon returning to duty, rose through the ranks and eventually became ANBU Sennin. She has seen the passing of her husband, Minamoto Taro, who was also the 1st Mizukage, she has seen the rise and fall of the 3rd Mizukage and the installment of the 2nd Mizukage again. The reason why Yojimbo was chosen over Masa was that Masa was, in secret, taking care of her son. Tsuyoshi Minamoto would be raised solely by Masa, who continued her duty to defend Mist and to protect her son. Tsuyoshi, thus, was sheltered away from his peers and not even her fellow ANBU or the Mizukage knew. She did not have the time to tell Taro, before his death, that he had a son, something that Masa regretted deeply. Still, she raised him the best she could and taught him to be strong like her and his father. She was immensely proud of her son, who was quickly developing his taijutsu skills. It is now, that her life is extremely busy. Hoshikata is Mizukage again, her son wants to join the Academy, and it seems that her ANBU are not as trustworthy as they seem.
