Physical Description:
- Fine-boned and slim, Kaori is a thin slip of a girl, just a few centimeters shy of average for a girl her age. Her hair is dark and long, often worn loosely around her shoulders when she is not in training or at work -- some shorter strands frame her eyes in a thin, often unkempt fringe. Not particularly in the habit of settling her hair or clothes, Kaori typically has a disheveled look about her, clothes often a little too big for her lanky frame and hair sticking sideways if not intentionally wrestled down. Her eyes are a shade of grey so deep that they almost appear black in most lighting.
Personality Description:
- Kaori was raised to be transparent and guileless -- especially being raised alongside much older, much stronger boys, she rarely reins in her opinions of things, however frank they might be, and she has little trouble in speaking her mind. She has always found little point in being deceitful. Kaori is naturally diligent and kind, but, even for a girl her age, she possesses remarkable awareness of her limits: Kaori can become incensed when someone intends to test them. Kaori has the resilience required to endure the inevitable teasing that comes with being the runt of a litter and, in a way, because of this, she pents her frustrations and is often seen as a surprisingly patient child.
Her rare tempers are likely to be foul and fiery. Kaori commonly struggles with maintaining a balance between being naturally inquisitive and having relatively reserved intuition about things risky or irrational. She is imaginative by design but has enough grounded sense to have a reasonable feeling on what might be wasteful or improbable -- a combination that undoubtedly leads to inner conflict and quiet dissatisfaction. There is always a quiet, underlying want for recklessness... and, most of the time, she can manage restraint well enough. That is, of course, not considering that she could easily be nudged to act on these suppressed impulses.
Character History:
- There was a certain power to be found in their blood, something of a deep ancestry that brought great reverence and expectations in the patient wait of her gestation. The youngest before her, Ronin, had given immediate signs of the Santaru birthright -- they were eager to see what would happen when their mother was ready to bear another. There was a quiet confidence that she would have another son -- the three she had already brought into this world were strong, handsome, and healthy, every bit worthy of the pride she held for them. In secret, their mother had already known that this one would be different and her name had already been decided even before she was born: Kaori.
In her earliest years, she did not bear much sign of the legacy passed onto her. Though lively and bright, the energy and focus of their father, Raiden, remained in his sons and seldom to his daughter -- in fact, she had learned early enough that her efforts to involve herself with the attention of their father was futile and instead occupied herself with following her brothers around whenever she could manage to get away from their protective mother's side. She revealed herself to be a sprightly youth -- unlike her brothers, she was of a more feisty disposition, dogged and determined once her mind was set, unafraid to speak her mind whenever she was challenged.
Around six years of age, after a particularly nasty day of high tempers, Kaori's powers displayed their manifestation -- in the midst of throwing a fit, an invisible sort of static electricity began to hum in the air around her and a lightning bolt roared across the sky, as if commanded, despite being a stormless afternoon. With its unveiling came change -- clearly a bearer of the Santaru heritage, a new interest sparked in Raiden and it was planned that she would follow her brother's footsteps in joining the Mist Village Academy once she was of age. The attention was elating -- though she did not show as much proficiency as her brother had when he was her age, the potential was there. She proved to be a quick study once she was finally enrolled, though she was not without her weaknesses -- she possessed a natural intuition for Ninjutsu and control over Chakra, but she was average or sub-par otherwise. Still, she was young, they'd say -- she'd have plenty of time to grow into it, they'd claim. Despite their encouragements, Kaori knew, deep down, she would always be a lesser shade of her brother Ronin.
Not long after, a storm of a different kind came to the village.
Barely into becoming a student, ruin and frost utterly ravaged the place that Kaori had once called home. She would never forget the panic that flooded her when her family realized that Mori was nowhere to be found and that there would be no choice but to abandon the place where she had been born if they were to survive. Their mother clung desperately to her and refused to let her out of her sight as they fled and sought shelter from the deep freeze. Most of the events of that time were a blur to a young girl like Kaori -- all she could remember was the distress in her mother's eyes, the oppressive fear of looming danger, and that Kouin had saved them all, including what she believed to be him bringing back her brother from the dead. Something had changed for all of them, even as Kouin secured them a place in Kumogakure, at a great personal sacrifice.
For a long time, this was not a home. At first her family had been considered outsiders and her brothers went through their own trials to find their places in the ranks of the Cloud Village -- eventually, it had come time for Kaori to as well. She had been fortunate enough to receive some informal training from Kouin during their transient and uncertain years, but it had come time for her to officially finish her Academy training. Like her brothers, she had attempted to take the Genin exam, but had failed where they did not, and was required to enroll and do her time. It was hard for her to make friends at first, but eventually, with the easing and passage of time, reluctantly or not, the Kaze clan had become more or less accepted. Kaori had learned to be thankful for whatever she could get. Still, despite making strides in her personal development and control over her powers and prowess, even after graduating from the Cloud Academy, Kaori can't help but feel that this is not where she was meant to be.
