Character's Physical Description: Yuji was born with red hair but quickly learned that dying it was the safest option for him and never got out of the habit. The hair he now has is black and cut short in order to stay out of his face. His eyes fluctuate between green and gold/hazel depending on what he is wearing. Most of the time they appear green because he's black hair brings out that color. He is short for his age barely reaching 5 foot 3 in (1.6 meters). This lack of height can be attributed to malnourishment when he was young. This, along with his slight build, causes him to look younger and weaker then he is. His clothing mostly consists of black because it is the easiest to keep clean and everyone else seems to be wearing it. Sometimes he will change up his style, but not often.
Character's Mental Description: While Yuji’s childhood could been seen as a bad one he considered it average. Sure running the odd jobs that almost got him killed multiple times was kind of scary, but other people had it a lot worse. With this attitude is a outgoing person most of the time and comes across as a little naive. This naivety was a defense mechanism from his time delivering unsavory packages and made it easier for him to deliver things because he believed whatever his employer told him was in the box or bag. This outgoing and general happiness is can make many people nervous, especially when he drops horrifying things into conversations without seeming fazed by it. When he was in the academy the first time he spared with someone he injured them greatly and was then confused when he was reprimanded but still happily apologize. His bright personality does not mean he is innocent or unable to do what needs to be done to keep those he considers his safe. If he doesn’t consider someone “his” he can do almost anything to them even if it makes him feel slightly guilty.

Character History:
The Sato family did not begin as a destitute family, well before Yuji was born they were a well respected middle class family who worked as groundskeepers for more wealthy. Which yes Crater City does have. Yuji’s father was a loyal employe who was dedicated to his job, however this loyalty did him a disservice when he informed his employer that his wife was stepping out on him and was promptly fired. This caused a downward spiral in the man, being blacklisted from getting a job again and having lost the job that had been in his family for generations, he turned to alcohol and gambling to drown out his failures. This, like it tends to do, lead to the him, his wife, and two children being pushed into poverty and the once kind and loving man to become cold and callous.
It was sometime after the descent into poverty that Yuji was born as the fourth child, the second son. He did not have an auspicious start to life being born premature and to small to survive the cold winter he was born into. His parents fully expecting him to die within the week, however, to the surprise of everyone he persevered. Having survived he was expected to pull his weight as soon as possible. This started when he could barely walk where he would do chores around the house and at the age of six he was sent out to find ways to make money. He would normally do this by running errands for the rich. As he got older and two more children came along he began to run errands for the shadier members of the city, of which there was many. His sisters were able to find lesser paying but more respectable jobs as assistants to a seamstress. While it the shadier jobs paid more it was inherently more dangerous.
This danger was made abundantly clear when Kuji’s older, and only, brother disappeared on one of his runs. Kuji was ten at the time This combined with two of his youngest siblings to fall extremely ill changed Kuji. He no longer cared about what little morals he had. He began to take jobs that were even riskier. He became one of the go to people if you wanted something delivered quickly and secretly. If that was not enough for his family to get buy he would turn to pickpocketing, sometimes with the help of his younger siblings. This was successful for sometime, his young looks and quick feet getting him out of what sticky situations he got into. As well as his ability to go from one to one-hundred when cornered and his uncanny ability to go for the most painful places.
This worked well for about two years until he made a mistake he fully expected to be fatal. His father had been on a run of bad luck in at the gambling table. This meant Kuji was more pressed for money then he normally was which meant he was turning to pickpocketing to make up the difference. He was normally good at scouting the crowd, picking out the easiest and most profitable targets. This time he had picked the wrong person. As he slipped his hand into his targets parket he felt a hand grab his wrist and begin to crush it. Looking up to see who the hand was connected to the internally cursed as he saw the forehead protector wrapped around the person throat, something he had initially taken for a scarf. Deciding to go with his plan of last resort he widened his eyes at the women begin to cry, a skill he had found quite useful, and scream general protests (“Let me go” “I don’t want to go with you” etc.) If this had been someone other than a Shinobi the ploy may have worked, however once it was clear that the person holding him was others backed off. If a shinobi wanted to drag a young child into a side ally no civilian was going to stop them. Thankfully for Kuji the kunoichi found these actions cute rather than annoying. Instead of killing him in the alley like he expected her to he got an offer, if he entered the academy in Konoha she would help to set up his family in the same city. Not being an idiot he agreed to go to the academy.
The konichi kept her promise, she helped to arrange travel to Konoha and once they got their helped them to find jobs. Having a job greatly improved his father’s attitude and turned the family back into what it was before his father had lost his, or so his mother said. Keeping his promise he entered the Academy, with the additional hope that finding becoming a shinobi would help him find his brother. Once in the Academy he did not excel but neither did he fail. He stayed solidly in the middle of all his classes. In his files only two things stood out: 1) He excelled at stealth and 2) He was a vicious fighter when attacked he held nothing back and attempted to slaughter the person sent against him. This viciousness was caused by his time in Crater City which never left him. He graduated the academy in three years and entered the life of a Genin.
