Kamaru waited with his hands folded in front of him. As the investigator came in he stared at Kamaru and tossed a folder onto the table between the two of them.
”You want to explain to me again why you killed a city official in front of the Onyxian Sanctum?” the man requested pulling out a notepad to write things down.
[Flashback]
Getting an assignment to kill someone wasn’t really in Kamaru’s usual mission, finding out it was someone outside the Onyxian Sanctum was a bit different to say the least. Especially looking over the information on the man, ”This is a city official.” was the first comment Kamaru had to which he was simply given a nod back. Since he had some time to prep he opted to find out exactly what he was getting himself into. The name sounded familiar and discretely asking another instructor at the Academy after his last mission Kamaru figured out why. It had him holding his head though with the realization of his mission. The area the target would be in and the lack of evidence made the assassination actually fall under something Kamaru didn’t like. Him murdering someone in cold blood for no probable reason. Thoughts of ending up in jail like Kazuki had but for a longer spell though for actual reasons did sink in quickly. Granted if he did have his target’s folder with information he knew when he’d be home. No use doing something that would end him up in jail if he didn’t set up a way to get himself out.
Kamaru cased the target’s home while he was out. It was late into the night and thoughts after his previous mission came back into the front of his mind. He didn’t have doubts about reporting and handing over the information found, it was out of his scope and finding out someone was dabbling in trying to nudge and push the country and village through economic and political means through less ethical channels than even politicians have.
Being decent at infiltration he found out just meant you were good at breaking and entering but for ‘official’ purposes as he entered into the man’s house. Kamaru could understand why a high ranking city official had guards at his residence to a point but considering the amount of patrols some with animals. Considering what Kamaru read from his file it seemed a bit much for a man who lived by himself. Inside it felt more still than he cared to think about for long and he moved about quickly to look for anything suspicious, unfortunately he didn’t find anything right away.
The house was a bit bigger Kamaru thought as he found a chair and opted to sit down and think about not being able to find anything. There was an enclosed area in the middle but the rest of the house seemed normal and he’d spend his time and thoroughly searched. No hidden panels in the office, bedrooms, kitchen, even the bathrooms. The enclosed area was the only place he hadn’t been and he felt a suspicion whatever he needed to find would probably be found inside. Mostly since he hadn’t found anything, he hadn’t tried searching inside the area since he hadn’t seen or found a door yet as it was enclosed by glass on all sides. After his moment of contemplation or laziness he opted to investigate the enclosure since it was the only place he hadn’t checked out.
After walking around the area he was pretty sure there wasn’t a door. seemed odd but considering it was a display with a few statues inside and such maybe that was the point. But they had to have gotten the items in somehow. Kamaru grumbled silently looking over the glass. It was clean, no seams to a hidden door started to work on his nerves until he breathed out a sigh and stared at the encloser still patrolling around it. The nice thing about inside the house was that there were no patrols. Tapping the toe of his shoe Kamaru finally formed hand seals sending a vaporous fog at the enclosure continuously moving it over the surface. His eyes scanned the surface as he moved through the area. Being stopped or losing to a hidden door was really putting a damper on him wanting to complete his mission.
When the vapor moved inside the enclosure he stopped and went back searching out the area. The seam didn’t see visible to the eye but there was one of a panel of glass. With a general idea where a door size edge was he dismissed the vapor. Now that he had found out where he needed to get in he had to figure out the how. Forming a kinetic box he attached it to the door and looked around. Jiggling it he felt some give to push in. Entering Kamaru rubbed his eyes realizing what was going on. The enclosed area was an optical illusion of sorts. Iniside he found an office area more akin to a medical office in Leaf City with several large long filing cabinets. Opening one had Kamaru looking at a dead body. Since things seemed to be getting odd he opted to figure out how the secret door worked and closed himself in once he knew how to get out. Finding paperwork and scanning through things Kamaru found what he would expect. He did a double take when he glanced something that caught his eye and read through the document pulling reference material from the shelves and looking at the bodies.
”Ah, this is messed up.” Kamaru muttered to himself as he collected evidence and books and started to stack them pulling out a scroll. All he had to do was turn in what he found and he wouldn’t have to kill the guy. Kamaru looked to the dead bodies and thought about the puppet doppleganger he had seen. He mostly just reported a description of what he sound in even in the world of shinobi it seemed outlandish and was probably dismissed. What was his guarantee turning in the intel would finish his job… and with what he read would he have truly killed the man. Kamaru swiftly moved to the bodies attaching several notes to some while burning others to ash rapidly.
Getting to the target’s location seemed surreal as Kamaru stared down at a man crumpled on the ground his body bent in odd angles. Looking up it looked by the open window he was definitely someone who jumped. Seeing one or two heads popping out and looking down at him Kamaru frowned. Rolling the guy over Kamaru slapped his face a few times hard. ”Stop playing dead old man.”
He expected the guy’s eyes to open eventually from the slapping, Kamaru didn’t expect to black out. Waking up to someone pushing bandages against his side he slowly sat up with people telling him to take it easy since he had been stabbed. Not knowing where the man was he asked and people explained an elderly man had left. Several other people went out in different directions looking for him after Kamaru had fallen it seemed. Kamaru didn’t like this but at least he knew something the man only had a few more lucky saves before he was done.
Moving at a jog had Kamaru feeling like he was severely out of shape. Switching between channels he heard something he didn’t understand and his eyes narrowed listening to the chatter. Moving high to rooftops helped but he still didn’t see much as he sped up. Eventually his mad dashes paid off, moving out of areas where people seemed to be actively looking through the streets had Kamaru descending off a rooftop towards an old man.
Normally dropkicking an old man with your feet exploding in fire would be something you’d probably get taken in for. Kamaru figured if the guy had stapped him it was just getting him back to even the score. As the man flopped and bounced down the side street Kamaru got a bit of distance putting up a barrier when he saw the guy sit up his lower body not attached.
”He was right you’re a real piece of work boy. No respect and no idea of what’s going on in this country. Times are changing for the worse and you sit by idly not realizing the lapses in judgement. The things that need to stay the same aren’t and the things that need to change stagnate. You could have helped us… you could have made the world a better place.” the man chided Kamaru. It was odd as he did it he slide his body over to his lower half and seemed to reattach.
Kamaru scratched his face and thought about it. Changing things for the better wasn’t a bad thing, but the methods one used did. Kamaru pointed up to the skies as a storm formed. ”I’ll still change the world in my own way… probably smaller and no one will notice. Your time is up… There’s not anymore left this will be the last body.” Kamaru stated the man’s eyes widening with a realization as to what he meant. He didn’t have time to protest.
As the man’s eyes widened Kamaru went limp himself as well. He had heard the rushed footsteps behind him. He felt the person tackle him from behind. He didn’t resist. The flash was seen coming up from the body of the man in front of Kamaru Ashen, crumbling blacked remains were looked at after a thundering god fearing boom pushed everyone back. More men jumped on top of Kamaru he had to smile in a way from their reaction.
[End Flashback]
The man shook his head, it sounded too preposterous to be true, standing the man was about to remind Kamaru how much time he was looking at in prison without seeing the light of day when someone walked in. ”You’re free to go, we found the evidence that sent to us before someone could go in and destroy it. Next time don’t send packages that sensitive mislabeled as ‘birthday gift’ on an attention line.” the masked figure explained.
Kamaru nodded and stood up massaging his wrists. The investigator mentioned something about Kamaru having been handcuffed to the table but Kamaru wagged a finger, he simply stated he had been or at least there was the illusion of the fact he was. Kamaru got an ear full from the detective before the man lead him out in a loving pushing manner.
”You locked the files so only you could open them.” the man in the mask stated. ”I couldn’t have me rotting in a jail cell someplace in town slip your mind accidentally…” Kamaru replied before asking out of curiousity, ”Is he actually dead this time though?”
”You want to explain to me again why you killed a city official in front of the Onyxian Sanctum?” the man requested pulling out a notepad to write things down.
