After his last run in he was surprised when one of the instructors passing in the hallway suggested he come down to check out the monthly sparring event most of the teachers participated in over the next weekend. Showing up with a set of brawling gloves and a tracksuit took on a different look then his dress clothes. He greeted a few teachers and met several he hadn’t been introduced to yet. It was a nice way to network and get to know the others, from what he saw before they seemed like a nice enough groups, the last encounter seemed to have been respectful but not overly friendly. Since he seemed to want to focus on what he was teaching the kids and partially his abilities to demonstrate that’s what they focused on discussing before. It didn’t seem like it was a bad mind set to be in.
Finding a partner he went over basic drills enjoying the slightly laidback training structure. Instructing students usually meant the teachers were moving and going through their daily lives at a certain speed and on schedule. With the thought they might be called out back into operational service in the field for a mission had most thinking they needed to be ready, and on their off days they trained just for such occasions. Some thought of it as a way to stay in shape, others a way to keep one’s skills sharp. While some seemed excited about suddenly being recalled into active duty and leaving the village for missions others worried about how their students would react or progress while they were away. With such thoughts flowing around and the scent of sweat and determination in the gym Kamaru figured he could get use to this lifestyle among educators shaping young minds and people into shinobi.
Kamaru’s attention fully snapped back into the current situation when he heard a lady scream. He saw a lady caught up in ropes for the ring in the middle of the gym. Looking across the ring to a guy now lounging in the corner snaring at her Kamaru figured out what it was about.
”Yoriko-sensei… that’s not going to do you know. With skills like that you’ll die out in the field. Just think what you’re students would think.” he jeered at the woman as she tried to free herself before he burst into laughter looking up his nostrils flaring.
Even in a group like this there’s always a bully it seemed.
Moving to the ring Kamaru assisted the lady who quietly mumbled thanks after she was finally freed. Roaring out he was interrupting a sparring match Kamaru stared at the woman for a few seconds making her blush and then squeak in surprise as he rubbed his thumb under her nose his finger coming away with reddish liquid let her know she had a nose bleed. She adjusted her glasses when Kamaru told her to put her hand up. He slapped it telling her to go get checked out and take a break. Stating he had been tagged in Kamaru shoved hands into pockets while she left the ring pulling tissue from her bag as someone assisted her to check for a broken nose. As the man rushed out of the corner his fist came down on the back of where he thought Kamaru’s head was Kamaru but he weaved inside the man’s zone and then back out. Suddenly to close to punch and then suddenly to far it seemed before turning around Kamaru blinked and regarded the man looking him up and down.
”What’s all that about?” Kamaru asked looking at him blankly.
”Well if you tagged in for Yoriko-sensei I figure you wanted to spar. For a new instructor you’re one cheeky bastard.” he spat before rushing Kamaru again. Kamaru dodged again getting some distance between the two.
”If she’s bleeding from the nose it’s not really a spar as much as a brawl… for a big guy I’m surprised you’d go after a slender young female teacher. Wearing glasses no less.” Kamaru scolded the man which mostly just infuriated him.
”It was a light tap, she’s just weak. Besides she hasn’t had that much experience on real missions someone needs to toughen her up.” the man explained trying to justify his actions.
”That’s what you’re saying but I think you just want to brawl and you’re picking on people that you think are weaker than you. I don’t like bullies.” Kamaru stated pulling his hands out of his pockets and putting on his brawling gloves. ”If you just want to jump around and brawl though I’ll dance with you big guy.” Kamaru smirked putting his hands back in his pockets.
As the man visibly shook he dashed at Kamaru who jumped up his body revolving as one of his legs extended out. The side of Kamaru’s sneaker hitting the man in the face knocking him back slightly stunned him as Kamaru continued to rotate. The man dived in lower aiming for Kamaru’s other leg to tackle him by before throwing him. As he moved forward the leg seemed constantly under his reach as he passed under Kamaru who had been pulling his leg back.
”For someone talking about experience you go for the obvious too quick.” Kamaru taunted getting the man to snap around. As he rushed Kamaru he in same did the same to the man. As the man woke up he looked around. His face hurt, especially his jaw.
”You talk too much and you don’t know when to shut up I think. You might actually mean what you say but you go about it the wrong way.” Kamaru said staring down at the man on the ground with a couple people attending to him.
”This isn’t what teachers are supposed to be like. I’ll report you to the new Head Instructor when he gets into the office Monday. We don’t need a teacher like you!” The man said suddenly realizing the blood in his mouth spitting it out.
”That’s fine… come to see me Monday then. I’m the new Head Instructor. While I can respect your opinion your attitude is probably going to need to change. Or I’ll beat it out of you.” Kamaru stated plainly shocking several people.
As he stepped out of the ring the young lady from before ran up as Kamaru left asking if she could treat him to coffee later. He nodded stating he liked coffee. He didn’t notice the shocked look and reddening of her face though since she was behind him when he accepted.
