What might have been a pretty face is spoiled by a scar running from above her left eyebrow and across her eye. If she bears any other scars, she does a good job of covering them up. Most native shinobi are used to the biting cold, but the amount of layers Kazumi wears suggests either a poor tolerance or a strange sense of fashion. Kazumi is nothing short of a prodigy. A brilliant mind housed in a near-perfect body. Few shinobi, or even people, are fortunate enough to meet a young soul blessed with both talent and drive. In a way, she is an eternal student, constantly seeking out more knowledge. It leads her to new places and new people, at which point she’s more than happy to make yet another friend. Few can deny her intelligence, but with a lack of wisdom and an inflated ego, it rarely finds an opportunity to shine. Most people would shy away from a menacing for, but Kazumi also possesses the uncanny quirk of being unflinching, especially for a young shinobi. Intrepid, even, to a fault. Life in the Holy City of Tenouza was surprisingly uneventful for most of Kazumi’s childhood. The only child of two loving parents, they enjoyed a pleasant life by the coast. Like many families in the city, the family was devoted to their Lord and his Favoured Son, which caused its fair share of complications when the child began to show a talent for chakra. Though subtle at first, it became difficult to deny that she had a ‘gift’ – a toy flickering across the room, or an ember at her fingertip couldn’t be explained away as parlour tricks. The parents knew it was a secret that could never get out. Not only would Kazumi be murdered for her sin, but the two of them would forever be known as the ones that birthed a tainted child. She knew it too, and yet, she was a curious child, and one that thought she could explore her talents in secret. Of course, most children aren’t as good secret-keepers as they believe themselves to be, and her parents’ increasingly desperate attempts to get her to stop didn’t do much to deter her. She had been told her whole life that to use chakra was to challenge the natural order, but she found only joy and wonder in her newfound powers.[lb2][/lb2]
As much as her family knew she was already corrupted from having the mere potential to use chakra, they at least hoped to keep it hidden, so she might live out the rest of her life. Pleading turned to yelling turned to beating in a matter of weeks, which only further distanced Kazumi from her loved ones, and encouraged her to experiment away from prying eyes. In a cruel twist of fate, one especially harsh beating from her mother prompted the girl’s Sharingan to reveal itself. The sight of crimson eyes a little too close to the Creation Scroll’s description of the rebellious Eldest Daughter sparked madness within the mother, who saw it fit to try and gouge the child’s eyes out. She reached for a knife and drew it across her daughter’s face, but somehow fell short of removing an eye (to this day, Kazumi isn’t sure whether her mother hesitated or if she cast an illusion in her panicked state). After a brief struggle, the child was able to break free, albeit with a bloody gash on her face and a crazed parent not too far behind. Fortunately, the family lived far enough from others that her cries didn’t cause an immediate scene, giving the vigilant shinobi enough time to swoop in and steal her away.[lb2][/lb2]
It was no surprise that Kazumi’s many attempts to train herself had not gone unnoticed, but she was very fortunate that Kumogakure’s men had caught on instead of Tenouza’s forces. Her new saviour managed to get them away from prying eyes and perform a pragmatic, but far from perfect healing jutsu to keep her conscious, and then explain to the child that to return home would be to welcome a slow and painful death. It took several explanations to get the message through to a confused, pained child, but as the pair began their escape from the city, she came to accept that she could not return home.[lb2][/lb2]
Instead, her new saviour took her to Cloud Country’s chakra-sensitive sanctuary to enlist. Though it wasn’t as if she had any choice in the matter, the child was happy to have a distraction and a means to hone her skills without judgement. Needless to say, the stunning lack of domestic abuse did wonders for the girl’s demeanour, and with proper tutelage and soared through the academy. Though she had the basics grasped soon enough, she denied a genin exam until she was satisfied with her skills. That meant training better suited for the prospective ANBU – mental resilience, intelligence gathering and at least one interrogation class. Despite that, she requested to join the medical branch after two years in the academy, where she spent most of her days in the hospital, bugging more experienced researchers and finding new ways to sleep in the building overnight. As a new recruit, she has yet to make any groundbreaking discoveries, but she is, if nothing else, an interesting sight to observe.[lb2][/lb2][/td][/tr][/tbody][/table]
