Name: Koga Tatsuzo
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Sex: Male
Rank: Academy Student
General Description:
As far as appearances are concerned, Tatsuzo looks healthy for his age. He has a slimmer build which will later lend itself to be more agile and toned. He has lighter skin, medium length hair in a light tone of grey to silver, and his eyes are a pale shade of green. He is of average height for his age, standing at five feet and two inches tall, and weighs one hundred and two pounds. He has sharp features, taking after his father. He is always seen wearing a necklace or chain of some kind. Rarely is he caught sharply dressed, but instead favors more casual clothing like open jackets with undershirts and simple black pants. When caught in his uniform, he favors tactical vests and dark-colored pants and undershirts with black shinobi sandals.
Tatsuzo's largest glaring issue as a person lies in his self-confidence. Born to a minor Clan that has since fallen into disparity, the Koga are famous for only providing one exceptional ninja to the village every several generations. He has a large weight on his shoulders with his family hoping he's going to be the next great Koga and tries to keep himself out of the spotlight. This has led him to become an older than average academy student; he is terrified of what the life of a shinobi might bring him, and has a natural inclination to hold himself back out of fear of becoming a fully-fledged Genin. Past this glaring issue, Tatsuzo is very friendly and is fond of making friends; however, he tends to keep many acquaintances and doesn't get too close to anyone. His lectures on shinobi life and his grandfather's stories of combat have rattled him to the core, making him afraid of forming deeper connections with others. He doesn't place too much worth in himself, and sells himself short when it comes to his own achievements. That also steers him toward feelings of over-modesty, and he has a hard time taking genuine compliments or praises. He clams up around women and is shy towards them particularly, though he is naturally more on the quiet side to just about anyone in the first place.
History:
The Koga Clan's roots run deep within the history of the Hidden Cloud Village. Once upon a time, the Koga were somewhat renowned for their expertise in their chosen fields; they were artists of their dedicated fields, and each promising Koga often offered their own individual talents separate from the rest of the Clan. While one may have been a prodigy in Taijutsu combat, another would come along equally as impressive in the arts of illusion. With no bloodline ability to make them stand out, the Koga instead relied on strict training and dedication to hone their craft to match the more naturally gifted shinobi around them. All of this would eventually draw to a close. Under mysterious circumstances, the head of the Clan vanished one day, never to return. His replacement led the Clan into its downfall. While long, long ago, the Koga had been a name worth knowing, in present times they have fallen into average obscurity. Very few can recall the last time a promising Koga passed through the halls of the academy in the village. Truly, every four or five generations the Koga may have one promising candidate to ignite the spark of their glory days and live as a walking reminder of how things used to be.
Unfortunately, Tatsuzo is now looked upon as that candidate. Tatsuzo's family is directly descended from the head of the Clan that vanished all those years ago. Growing up enthralled and frightened by his grandfather's stories of shinobi life (with him only being a sub-par ninja himself), it was enough to shake Tatsuzo's belief that the life was fit for him. From a young age, he was educated in everything his grandfather had experienced, right down from the basics up to teamwork tactics and battlefield awareness and strategy. When it came time to find out if the boy could live up to the clan folklore of the ''fated generation'' they hadn't seen in many years, they were disappointed to find he'd been scared stiff by his grandfather's stories of battle and loss. He lacked the will to tap in to his potential, if he had any at all. He constantly sold himself short and made excuses, shirking away from what he knew these tests might lead to. Tatsuzo's father, a very much inexperienced shinobi, would step in to handle his training instead. Choosing to nurture his growth rather than force it out, the process was long and arduous but produced results; at the age of ten, Tatsuzo was discovered to be able to manipulate chakra. A grand celebration was held in the Clan hall; the Koga finally had a promising candidate to submit to the Hidden Cloud's blood-tithe. Remembering the glory days of their specialized shinobi, they began trials to learn if he too would function the same way.
It was quickly discovered he was no illusionist. He lacked the refined control over his chakra to form convincing illusions, much less form any at all. Next, they tried the art of Ninjutsu. He fared a little better, but often suffered backlash from his own basic techniques. His nervousness and fear often got the better of him, interrupting his focus. When they tried close-combat Taijutsu, his thin body and fear drive made him lean toward avoiding attacks rather well, but his ability to dish out his own was laughably below-average. Frustrated and at wit's end, Tatsuzo's father and grandfather put their heads together, mulling over the scrolls that contained their Clan's history. Within, they were reminded of the tale of Koga Senzo, a renowned master of ranged combat. Ideas began to form, and Tatsuzo began to accompany them both on hunting trips at the outskirts of the village. They started with target dummies, and then moved on to bulls-eye targets within weeks. Shortly afterward, the youth found his niche; while his father and grandfather showed average skill with a bow, Tatsuzo himself had found a growing expertise in thrown weapons. When they moved on to actual wildlife, he had become capable of marking and bringing down his own targets by himself. Choosing to refine this skill, his family had clung tight to their sense of pride at this ''Senzo The Second''.
He had and still does have a difficult time transferring his skills from what he saw as a game in hunting over to the Academy, much to the frustration of his instructors. He is scolded often for holding himself back, but his family still carries hope. Fearful for the day of his graduation thanks in no small part to his grandfather, the day is ever-approaching when Tatsuzo will be forced into the life he fears so much.
